Today my xperia tablet z (sgp311) got into a strange state. It boots with normal boot animation. Then i see the menu bar at the top with the clock and battery state. The backgroud picture is standard sony. After some time the background changes to black and the softbutton for "back" is always active. I can swipe from top to bottom to get to the quick settings and switch wifi and bluetooth. Nothing more. No launcher, no settings, nothing exept notification to use "myxperia". But wheb i click that nothing happens. Unusable in that state.
Its rooted, got dual recovery and prereooted rom flashed. That worked over 6 months flawlessly.
I tried the following:
- wipe dalvik
- wipe dalvik, cache
- wipe dalvik, cache, data
- wipe dalvik, cache, data, system and reflash prerooted rom
With clean flash i got into the initial setup of android. I skipped all steps and got into android homescreen with standard shortcuts and widgets. After some seconds the device rebooted by itself. After reboot i once again had the problem above (clock, back button, everything else is black).
Safe mode got me the same. Nothing usable.
Any suggestions?

reflash stock rom with Flashtool. If it doesn't help, i presume your device has hardware problems.

Wi-Fi Tab 10.1, rooted and running Bonsai 0.2, all was well until it suddenly turned off on me (crashed). I turned it on, and as soon as I got past the lockscreen, a bunch of apps started force closing, and the box asking which launcher you want to use was flashing incredibly fast, on and off, so you could not use it. I also think I saw a "database error" message in the notification area.
I rebooted a few times with same result, so I rebooted to recovery, wiped data, wiped cache and wiped dalvik. Flashed Bonsai, and Tab runs fine now, with one exception. When it boots, for a few seconds, the top part of the screen (maybe the top 20% of the screen - a rectangle) is garbage - all different colors. The tab gets past this and works fine, but I am wondering if I should reformat the SD card, using the "Partition SD Card" option in the Advanced section of CWM.
And, if I do this, what are the correct settings?
Any thoughts?
That static screen you're seeing is a know issue. It won't hurt anything. But one way to get rid of it is...
1. Make a nandroid backup
2. Transfer that backup to your computer
3. Flash stock retail recovery ( http://db.tt/wSIvJp5 ) in download mode with Odin
4. Wipe data/factory reset in stock recovery
5. Transfer nandroid backup back to your tab.
6. Flash cmw
7. Restore your back up via cmw
No more static screen anymore.
Excellent, I will do that tonight.
Many thanks!!
*Update: Thanks everyone who came here and posted replies... it seems I had to check Facebook box... checking it installs Facebook app (I don't like Facebook) and solves the black screen problem I was having.
Hi everyone,
I know I'm a noob and I read all related to what I'm trying to do right now, but I just can't do it right... Hopefully someone will help me. Here's my problem:
I'm trying to install Real ICS ROM on my Xperia Mini Pro (sk17a). I installed the recommended kernel, reboot in CWM and did the following:
1. Factory reset
2. Wipe cache
3. Installed Real ICS ROM from zipcard
When I reboot my phone, I go through the setup guide, but at the end it says "the setup guide stopped". I reboot my phone again and it gets stuck on Xperia boot screen. Am I doing something? I guess so cause I just can't get to the home screen =/
This:
Do have unlocked bootloader?
Have you installed a custom kernel? If so, the right kernel for your ROM/Device?

Yes, I have unlocked bootloader (official Sony method) and installed the custom kernel recommended in the Real ICS r5.2 thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1707876&page=101). After everything is done, I get this message: "Unfortunately, setup guide stopped". I can access the settings menu via quickstatus bar, but the home screen is all black. After rebooting, it gets stuck on Xperia logo boot animation. =/
By the way, when the phone is powering on, the led turns blue and the buttons turn white, then goes off and the bootanimation comes... is that normal?
did you wipe Dalvik Cache too???

Yes, under "advanced" option, right?
Here's what I'm doing and the order of steps:
1. Checked if it has unlocked bootloader (OK)
2. Install custom kernel recommended by the thread starter, using Flashtool in flashboot mode. It says everything was done successfully.
3. After installing custom kernel, I power on phone (Xperia mini pro, sk17a version - Brazil) and press the volume down button to start the CWM mode
4. Then, I choose to "factory reset", "wipe cache partition" and "advanced > wipe Dalvik cache"
5. After that, I go and "install from zip card" and choose the custom ROM
When everything is done, my phone reboots... when in SONY logo, for a second the led turns blue and touch buttons turns bright white, then turns off... the xperia logo bootanimation comes and I can finally go thru setup wizard. But in the end, it stops working, the message says. When I reboot my phone, it gets stuck on XPERIA logo. =/
The XPERIA logo is animating, by the way. It's not frozen. It takes ages to get to home screen, and when it does, it's all black. All I can see is the quick status bar. Touch screen and buttons are responsive. The lock screen is all messed up and the button to unlock is out of range. Oh I want this ROM so badly, it is so cool.
Just recently installed the latest Swype beta. After I did so, upon trying to open my phone, I noticed that I have no keypad on the Enter PIN to Unlock screen.
I've tried power cycling the phone. Tried wiping cache and dalvik. Even re-ran the rom install hoping something would jar Swype into displaying the keyboard on the lock screen. All to no avail.
I'm wondering is there a way to make the keyboard / keypad appear without having to wipe data on my phone? I've savvy enough to handle messing around with adb/fastboot/etc. Just trying to do this without having to wipe and re-setup my phone all over again.
**EDIT**
Nevermind, I solved the issue. Just used 'adb shell' to remove the /system/app/Swype.apk and /system/lib/libSwype...
Reboot to recovery, wipe dalvik and cache, and you're good to go.
First off all sory on my bad English.
Few hours ago I did factory reset on mentioned phone. I choose to format external memory ( in phone ) and phone switched off. When turned on it showed some text in German ( phone from austrian network ) and samsung logo appeared. Since that colors run trought logo and nothing happening. Phone is rooted with syiah kernel, on stock rom. What to do???
huh I don't understand the problem.
do you want to change the language or a bug in de logo.
if the language its simple just in settings
if its something glitchy (screen, boot or the logo)
try to go back to stock with stock kernel.
can you take a picture? :highfive:
Phone wont boot up. Just logo changing colors.
How long have you left it running? If you do a complete factory reset, the phone has to rebuild the dalvik cache, which, as there is loads of crap on stock ROMs, can take quite a while. Leave it running on the boot screen for 5 minutes or so, and see what happens.

I left it for 2 hours
Normally when doing a factory reset your phone should boot into recovery, perform the wipe and boot the system again. Maybe something went wrong during this process and you ended up with a corrupt data partition. Try booting into recovery by hand (volume up + home + power button) and perform a data wipe there. Reboot again and see if it's booting again.
I rooted my HTC One and flashed viper one and it said it was installed sucessfully.
I get taken through the initial setup, but after that, my home screen is black and I can't do anything with my phone. Any idea what is going on and how I can fix it?
Also, I tried rebooting my phone and when it starts back up, it gets stuck on the viper one logo. Its been on the logo for a few minutes now....
I have the same issue. I tried wiping the Dalvik cache but when it rebooted it froze at: "Android is upgrading... starting apps". I turned off the power and when it turned back on it got stuck on the boot ViperOne logo screen.
Did you by any chance get an error saying "Unfortunately, setup has stopped" after the initial setup? I got that, and then the black screen. It was just the home screen that gave a black screen. I could see the lock screen, bring down the notification bar, recent apps screen, I could even get into settings within the notification bar and everything. Just the home screen that's black and not operational.

FIXED!!!!!!
I did get the error saying setup has stopped. Here's what I did to fix it.
From black screen. Reboot into recovery mode. Did a full wipe of my phone (cache, dalvik, system, data, just delete everything...everything will be gone).
Unzipped viperone.zip on my computer to get the boot.img
From fastboot I used adb sideload to push the viperone.zip onto my phone and installed.
Did not reboot after install
Flashed the boot.img onto phone. Reboot.
Everythings working!
Not sure if every step I did was necesarry, but its working great now. I think it had something to do with not completely wiping before the first install. Hope it works out for you.
