Custom kernels? - Remix OS for PC

Is is possible to use other Linux kernels with this? My Acer C720p has no trackpad support in Remix OS, and most Linux distros, but the Gallium OS (Ubuntu based) kernel works fine for this.

I tried to use a Marshmallow kernel on the ARM version and all it did was boot loop.

Kernel code is here:
https://github.com/JideTechnology/remixos-kernel/tree/jide_x86_marshmallow_kernel-4.4/kernel
I looks is possible see this thread
If you succeed please keep us posted I am also interested. ( I got an error during boot CPU family not supported ).

There is a project that is doing this too made by Offensive Security (The guys who make Kali). It's still in beta, but there's some pretty cool stuff! There is a custom kernel that adds other features as well.

I know, I'm part of the project!
I've worked on BT5 ARM a few years ago.
From my understanding the Nexus 9 builds of nethunter aren't fully functional yet.
This can also be used with a barebones debian system for apt, etc.
What status is the N9 with Nethunter?

Mostly working. Everything except the external wifi is running fine (from what I understand. Someone else makes the kernels.). NetHunter itself is running fine, but the custom android kernel is where the good stuff is!
Supposedly the N9 supports monitor mode with its built in chipset. We'll have to try that later though.
Awesome, going to try and contribute to that.
This lightweight install is multi-purpose and can be used for much more than just booting Kali

I think it's actually pretty cool! I'm looking around for some good ARM Linux images to try it out!
I may contribute to your project a bit. It has some awesome potential!
Does nethunter support custom kernels on the n9 yet?
I'm trying to get that installed.

Yes and no. NetHunter itself will work without the kernel, but you won't get many of the added features that the (still incomplete) kernel provides.
Armhf or armhl?
Does an 64bit .img work?

It has to be ARM based. So either armhl or armhf. Preferably armhf.
Can someone here who knows how to configure Debdroid on nexus 9 and give us thoroughly easy, step by step instructions as possible?

Linux drivers for Remix OS 2.0

Hello,
I'm just wondering if there is a way to install linux drivers on Remix OS. I really doubt that *.deb or *.rpm files are installable, but is it possible to build and install the needed driver ?
In my case, I would like to have my TV PCI Card (TBS 6281 dual TNT Tuner) working on Remix OS. The drivers are available here (http://www.tbsdtv.com/download/document/common/tbs-linux-drivers_v160405.zip)
On Ubuntu, I'm used to build thous drivers and then install them. But is it possible on Remix OS (it needs some buidings libraries and compilers...)
Thank you for your help.
@mathojojo I'd suggest asking this question on Android-x86 group Devs look in there much more often and Remix OS bases off Android-x86 project. These guys may help you port the drivers to Android.
@Ventricle Ok, I will take a look there. Thx

Question about kernel, no noobs please :D

Hi, this is my first post on xda, but i was reading it about 4 years and now i have unusuall question:
I have phone - samsung callisto (GT-I5510) with cyanogenmod 10.2 rom (android 4.3.1), and kernel sources are available for it, but only below 2.6.35.7 since phone is ancient. This is "latest" and probably "fastest" android phone with qwerty keyboard (not including this unrootable new blackberrys), so i think that it would be nice idea to deploy lightweight kali linux nethunter installation for hacking purpouses. I had some problems with oficial installer, and i had to modify it to allow install on device with such small /system partition, but the problem is that chrooting to Kali Roling is not working, becouse minimal kernel version needed is 3.2.*.*
Question is: Can i somehow "update" kernel sources of this device, so i can build 3.2.*.* kernel? I have much free time and even more determination to do this.

Surface Go and android x86

I've recently bought a surface go for school (64gb emmc, 4gb ram model) and I love the pen and the build quality however i found windows to be way to slow on a device like this and decided to try android. android-x86_64-8.1-r2 installed fine and it runs great on this hardware except for a few issues such as camera, auto rotate and the like. I've run into a pre-made kernel that fixes these issues and will link it below. I was wondering if someone could help me with implementing this kernel into android x86 to get the full set of features working. Thanks in advance!
Kernel:
(On github) /jakeday/linux-surface/releases
Could you tell me how you implemented that pre-made kernel into Android x86? I'm trying to do the same thing with Bliss OS 11.10 (Kernel 4.19), but I really don't know how. I could have missed something on the GitHub page, but I don't know how to implement a kernel into Android. To be honest, I never implemented a Linux kernel into an OS.
I hope you read this even though it's already been a few months.
Thank you

Unable to recompile ChromeOS Kernel

Could someone post a proper and clean instructions how to recompile ChromeOS/ChromiumOS kernel?
Could someone explain the difference between Regular Upstream Linux Distro kernel and the one in Chrome(ium)OS kernel?
Thank you.
For the last 48 hours I am trying to build a working kernel for my Dell Chromebook (Codename WOLF). Using the ChromiumOS project documentation and crouton wiki.
I've done maybe 20 builds, and all of them are freezing on "Booting Linux Kernel".
However I've no problems booting a kernel from any other Distro (Ubuntu/ChromimOS/ChromeOS/CentOS).
I'll be glad as well if I'm able to rebuild chromiumos kernel as a last resort.
My goal is to build a working kernel with CIFS / SquashFS with XZ+LZO extensions / OverlayFS / DM - Snapshot / VirtualBox kernel modules and support for some proprietary Peripheral devices.
Perhaps I am doing something wrong. But have no idea what exactly.
