When I try changing the boot animation even if I outright delete the old one it still shows the old one at start up.What am I missing?
You know what, I was having this problem as well. Everything about the theme I chose to replace the old one with managed to do so except for the boot animation. It seems to be a problem with CM itself. Here's a forum from the CM website itself where some people experience the same thing.

I am trying to make some changes to an existing rom. I flashed but it gets stuck on the splash screen. Is there a certain thing that causes this. I have the DangerSpl, and I didnt modify too much of the rom. Anything I can do?
[Nevermind, I figured out the problem...]
What was the problem?
Looks like it was a faulty boot animation
I wanted to change my status bar to one that resembles WP7, so i googled it and found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1176182
from that, i pulled the framework-res.apk from the folder and basically copied it over to my LG Thrill, replacing the original one.
I did however back it up. I restart, thinking when it boots it'll have the statusbar like the one shown in the thread.. wrong. it's stuck in boot animation and won't turn on.
What do i do?! I don't want to hard reset and lose all my data...

Boot your phone into recovery by adb while connected to your pc. Then mount SD and copy a theme zip for your phone or your old framework in a flashable zip and then flash that. Word of the wise. Framework files are not cross compatible between devices and sometimes even roms.

I've been searching the forums, and google for a while and can't seem to find a solution that works at all for me. First off, a little history. I am a n00b, and I very stupidly rooted my phone last night, without a recovery.... Actually I don't think just rooting was a big deal, it was me changing the vm heap properties that was really stupid. Why did I change it when the phone was working fine you might ask? Because I quickly gleaned over a forum post about adjusting the heap size to make your phone blazing fast, so, like any other idiot would, I did what the thread suggested, and instead of blazing fast speeds I got a boot screen logo....... forever... Talk about a huge mistake on my part....
Here's the problem,
Phone is stuck on the bootscreen, I can boot into system recovery (stock).
Android System Recovery has a message on the bottom of the screen that says "E: Cannot load volume /misc!"
I have wiped the cache partition, and did factory reset according to the manufactures website.
I cannot get ADB of Fastboot to see the device, even with drivers installed.
I do have a back up of build.prop that is unscathed, but I have no idea how to flash it, or "push" it or whatever.
I do not have CWM installed, and it appears that usb debugging is disabled.
My phone is a Kyocera Hydro. I'm using Windows 7 64bit.
I know I should never have done this, it was idiotic, and easily the dumbest thing I've done in a while. I'm hoping someone out there can help me fix this. Is it possible to put the backup of build.prop on the SD card and have it overwrite the corrupted one? Is there any hope at all?
I guess it can't be done then? I had hoped that as long as the bootscreen could come on that there was hope. Hopefully someone out there knows how to push the backup build.prop back onto the phone.
Well right now you're pretty screwed. There's no way to restore it without a custom recovery. You have 2 options -
1) Wait for someone to make a custom recovery for your phone.
2) Try to claim warranty and get it restored/exchanged at the service center. Say it just randomly rebooted and got stuck at the boot screen.

Greetings,
I am running an HTC One with CyanogenMod (Android 4.2). I had attempted to create and load a custom boot animation. I was able to pull from the source zip (/system/media), and confirm that I could reload it. I greated jpg's which were the same pixel count as the Cyanogen Animation (I didn't touch the desc.txt at all) and recompressed it (mac user so zip -0r bootanimation.zip). I pushed it back to the same location, and rebooted the phone. I was greeted with the wonderful message saying my bootloader has been tampered with, and then nothing for the rest of the phones boot until the lock screen.
Reloading the original animation zip still works. I have also tried a couple other tested HTC One boot animations, and none have succeeded. I ran the bootanimation command straight from the bin folder, and nothing happens. It just skips to another line, no message, no animation.
I am from the world of windows originally, and am still getting used to the mac/linux structure of things. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am not sure how to troubleshoot this problem further. All googling on the topic has produced solutions for others, but not myself. I understand this is a new piece of hardware, and it just may not be possible yet.
Thank you!
HI all,
Did anyone figure out a way to apply a customer boot animation since we can't simply go an change the bootanimation.zip file and so far all magisk modules i tried simply don't work.
Unless you have a fairly short animation, by the time it thinks of getting moving you've already booted into the home screen. In the past I created a couple of custom boot animations. I stopped using them when I chose to use rooted stock firmware instead of custom ROMs. As a result I haven't searched for a long time for a replacement boot animation: not that I need to given I still have my boot animations stored on a HDD.
it is a short one well kinda, wanted to put the nokia handshake as the bootanimation for fun but couldn't figure out how to actually do it due to android 13 read only limitations and i think the modules i tried didn't work due to the pixel now having a dynamic animation not quite sure, seems like its not worth it anymore
