I've been searching for the answer all day, so please don't bite my head off if the answer is somewhere obvious. Also my spell check is on the fritz so i apoligise in advance for the poor spelling.
Today i tried upgrading my x10i via the sony PC companion. All went well until the software asked me to restart the phone. It restarted, loaded up the OS and asked me for language etc. After clicking for language, the phone became unresponsive and then turned off.
My first port of call was to reconnect the phone to the PC companion. I pressed and held the back button the companion software picked it up and reistalled the OS.
Didn't work. Same behaviour as before.
I then tried SEUS and used the repair feature. Again it reinstalled the 2.3.3 OS. I restared the phone, and had the smae behaviour as before, execpt it started looping the restart. The phone would get into the OS main screen fine, and then restart over and over.
After that i got onto google trying to search for the same issue. Everywhere i went, people were saying that a software reinstall did the trick. I had tried that several times by now and so i decided to come over to xdadev and give a flash a try. I downloaded the flasher and the most recent rom from this thread.
The flasher worked ok, but i was getting the same behaviour with the restart loop. I then decided to flash back to 2.1, and this is where i had a small breakthrough, as when i finished installing 2.1 Update 1, the phone turned on and stayed on. However it didn't reconise my sim card. I played with it for a bit to make sure that it would say on, which it did, and then i powered it off to check the sim card. I gave it a polish and reinstered it. The OS reconised the sim card, and then started the restart loop again.
So obviously i'm thinking it's the sim card. I recharge the battery for a while, just to mek sure that the phone will stay on and then i try my wifes sim card. This time, did can't even boot fully and only gets as far as the sony ericsson screen.
After that i took out my wifes sim card and it started working normally again.
So now im curious. I decide to flash the phone to 2.3.3 again to see if it runs ok. Aside from one restart which i think was part of the install process, it works fine as long as there is not a sim card in the phone.
Since i've had the phone, i've done one upgrade aside from this one from 1.6 to 2.1 and everything worked fine. I've also had the same simcard since i've had the phone with no problems what so ever up until this point.
Thoughts?
EDIT: Things I forgot to mention:
1. The battery was 80% charged when i started the original upgrade to 2.3.3
2. During the troubles, i would try and turn the phone on, the green light would flash and it would vibrate but not turn on. If i left my finger on the on button, it would 'cycle' through with the green light and the vibrate sequence every few seconds.
Hey Krusty, I've been having a similar issue with my x10, I posted about it over here, maybe we can brainstorm together? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1209798
chances are this could be what you are in,
say good bye to your phone, it is permanently damage now.

Congratulation, there is a chance you got one of those faulty motherboard that can't handle updates resulting a burning in your motherboard.
You might as well open up the cover and smell if it give you a burning scent.
welcome to the club.

it's not an answer actually, i just want to walk u through it, because since the day i got my phone RIGHT, i had no idea how did i do it
anyway, i just helped the guy in another thread and yeah, i will post the answer if his way is working
I'm having a huge problem with my T-Mobile Galaxy S2, and not it won't even completely boot up. The issue had already been around, but never this bad. Usually, when I would use my phone, it would just randomly reboot on it's own. Now, I can't even get to the main home screen or menu. When the battery is inserted, the phone will automatically try to turn on. I'll get the Samsung screen, then the "Samsung Galaxy SII Android 4G T-Mobile screen", then the phone will glitch for a second, black screen, and it'll almost have a seizure from then on. When I say that, pretty much what happens is that the screen will go black, and it'll pulse with vibrations. It'll vibrate, stop for two seconds, vibrate some more, etc. That's all it'll do from there on. It won't try to turn on when I hold the power button, and the vibrations won't stop until I take the battery out. There is no water damage, and there's just normal wear on the phone. I've had the phone since the drop, and for the most part, it's been great until now.
The phone is not rooted, and I have not installed anything crazy. Come to think about it, I didn't really even have too many apps installed on it to begin with. The phone is under warranty, so I had T-Mobile send me a replacement. My main issue now is that I have content on there that wasn't on my SD card, but on the internal hard drive that I find extremely important, and want to keep. When I connect the phone to my computer, nothing comes up because I didn't "connect" it to the computer as you normally would have to do from the phone, before the extra drives pop up on the computer. Without getting into the main menu and manually connecting the phone to the computer so that the drive will pop up, what can I do?
I've tried taking the battery, sim card and memory card out, letting it sit for a few hours, and plug it back in, but it does the same thing. The battery isn't bad, because it plugs into the replacement phone that was sent to me, and works just fine. I've also plugged into my additional batteries, and it does the same thing. I can't do the "hard reset" where you hold volume up & down, then the power button because what happens is the phone will restart itself before I can get to that point. I tried it when I was on the phone with T-Mobile, and the associate at one of the retail locations tried when I went to get a loaner. I've tried hooking up the phone to the Kies software, but it won't recognize the old phone. It will recognize the new one with no problems though.
I am in no way am I well versed with the process of flashing it or installing different things on the phone. I just used it casually for phone calls, texts, web, and an occasional game or app. I'm just stating this so that if there are any specific tips that anyone could recommend, please if possible, explain in a bit more depth, because after I posted my title, I found the related threads, and most of the steps that were recommended to others that had problems sound a bit foreign to me. I just really want to recover the photos and documents that I had on the phone before I send it back to T-Mobile.
These are the threads that I've somewhat referenced so far:

I can't seem to find anything with the same symptoms as my phone though. If anyone could let me know, that would be great. I just really want to get the content off my old phone, it's just extremely important to me. I'll be waiting on any replies. If you need and more information about what the phone is doing, or what I should try, please mention it. I will try to update this as I get replies, since I am supposed to send the phone back pretty soon. Thank you in advance.

You described my phone EXACTLY. I have tried everything you have, as well. I've read for hours on the internet trying to find a way to retrieve my pictures, etc. I have a replacement as well, but I haven't sent the old one back yet. I should have done so already, but I desperately need my stuff out of this phone. I'm going to be charged soon for the new one, and was trying once more before I sent it to the company. Exhausting all the info and tricks I've learned from the web, I ran across your post. Can you PLEASE tell me if you had any luck at all? Thank you....

Dear All,
I have been using xda for long time as a user of the huge amount of knowledge in these pages...
Thanks to this community I got the most out of my samsung Galaxy S, Galaxy SII, Galaxy SIII and LG G2.
Now I have an Xperia Z2 D6503. I've been using it for a month and I love it.
But this is my problem.
2 days ago I was using the phone normally, I checked google maps and I put the phone under charge.
An hour later, I went to check the phone, and the phone was unresponsive: black screen, impossible to turn off/restart, no sound, no apparent activity. The only sign of life is a red led when I press the power botton.
The phone is with the original stock (firmware 17.1.A.2.69), I rooted it with a guide I found here (of course) just to use an app like android firewall.
I tried to search the forum for something like this, but honestly all I could find was something similar for the Xperia Z and what was proposed there to restart the phone didn't work (power+volume up).
I also tried to restart the phone with the off button inside the slot where the sim card is. That didn't work either.
Please let me know how can I move forward. As anybody else experienced something like this?
Thanks for your support!
Try flashing official firmware with flashtool maybe? Maybe this will help, I don't know man.
and what about hard reboot, by maintaining power and volume up until the 3 vibrations?

I suggest you go back to stock using flashtool, use it for a while just stock and see if this happens again. If it does, there's something wrong with your phone, but i don't think that's the case.
Try and tell us.
diego9016 HugePotato thanks for your answer! is there any way I can save my data first before flashing?
sensei_sai how do I perform the hard reboot? if I press power and volume up the phone does 3 vibrations, then nothing. what next? how do I hard reboot?
thanks for your help!
I'm currently travelling but when back home in a week I'll definitely go back to stock. But in the meantime, I'm so anxious to save the data stored in the phone.
thanks again!

When I put it on charge the red led blinks regularly as usual. Apart that, nothing else.

Thanks, I read that post. Interesting, but basically no solution except getting the phone replaced under warranty. I'd go for that, but I wish there was a way to save my data first. I've something in the phone only with no backup.

for my phone was also blinking with a red light when put for charging through the usb or even the charger and then i later found out is because i locked my bootloader when i was in root and had to reflash the stock rom to get it back up

Did your pc recognize your z2, because I can't seem to get it work on my pc to flash a stock Rom. I only get a blinking red light and when I press the power and volume up I get 3 vibrations that's about it.

when I connect the phone to the USB I see that the laptop tries to install the drivers and it fails.
But this is my work laptop and I cannot install sony drivers. I don't know if my desktop at home would recognize the phone. I'll try when I get back.
For the rest, the experience is as discribed by malek777, doing power and volume up I get 3 vibrations and that's it.
I fortgot to mention, I rooted the phone without unlocking the boatloader.

I figured out a way to use the companion app to go back to stock. When you get to the part in repair my device to connect your device, phone must be plugged in.
Hold the power button and volume up, once you hear the 3 vibrations let go of all and hold volume down. You will see a red light and then a green one. You're phone now in download even though there nothing on the screen.
Let me know if this works for you.

hi tel033 I tried to plug it with a different cable. What should happen? The only thing that happens is the red led blinking.....
thanks again.
Same thing happened to me. week 22. Got a replacement. Stock Phone, no root.
Guys I need some help, and I know someone here has a solution to my problem. So about the matter at hand.
A little over 5 months ago I bought HTC Desire 825. Like an idiot I rooted it, and having no skills in android programming didn't help either.
I flashed it, installed TWRP 3. something. something and used it until recently when I started getting "Unmodified System Partition". Once that thing booted I couldn't use my phone at all, turn it on / off, reboot it, etc. You get the idea. I used ADB to reboot it each time this happened. And now after several reboots like that my device doesn't get recognized by the PC anymore.
I even had a problem for a month now, the phone became "hardbricked" well at least I thought it was and left it in my drawer. Today I took it out, and turned it on like nothing happened. My battery was at 1% so it instantly shut down, and now I get the twrp "lock screen" again. and still it doesn't get recognized by the PC.
If anyone has an idea what caused this or how to fix it I would be very relieved.
Greetings,
I'm new in this Forum. I have been searching all around internet about my problem and couldn't find any solution, so I'm here calling for help from you.
My problem is quite simple to describe. I have my old friend's phone, who left it at my house 6 months ago. Now that my friend is gone, I'm trying to fix this phone.
The issue is that it has a Power Button broken (I can't start it on) so I have to plug it, but once done it can't go beyond the logo, then it keeps restarting again and again and again until I remove the battery. At this point, I told myself that I only have to do a factory reset and flash it, but then after installing the drivers, getting the firmware ready and stuff, when booting the phone to the flashboot mode, it keep restarting again and again and again...
Is there anyway to fix this? Or does it mean that the phone is gone?
