Ubuntu Touch .zip flashable images - Ubuntu Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone,
I recently got a Sony Xperia Z (yuga) to play with and I want to test Ubuntu Phone on this device. Nevertheless every single guide I have read points to a <unbuntu-codename>-preinstalled-touch-armhf.zip, and now I can only find *.tar.gz* files.
Is there any way to find the .ZIP or convert the current yakkety-preinstalled-touch-armhf.tar.gz to a flashable ZIP file?
I'm working with Ubuntu Desktop, got Java, android tools and other stuff installed, so I only need to know how to convert the file or find the ZIP directly.
Thanks in advance!

There are none. The preferred way to install Ubuntu Touch would be to have a support device (you cannot just flash the armhf version onto any device and have it work. It will not.) and use the ubuntu-device-flash command.
This appears to be the device page for your phone: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Devices/yuga
Be warned, it says that Cellular Radio is unknown, and sound only works through headphones, but they have an installation link that may help.
the alternative is to run
Code:
ubuntu-device-flash touch --device=yuga

Thank you very much for the reply.
I tried that and got the following error
Code:
$sudo ubuntu-device-flash touch --device=yuga
[sudo] password for ********:
2016/08/17 20:24:39 Device is |yuga|
Device yuga not found on server https://system-image.ubuntu.com channel ubuntu-touch/stable
I'll keep posting updates here from my findings.
Since the phone I'm using for this experiment is a spare one, there's no problem with bugs or non-working stuff

Hey, sorry for the late reply, According to that device page, this is an unofficial port, you can find more information about installing it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/orig-development/yuga-ubuntu-touch-xperia-z-t2434376
Do note that since it is an unofficial port, you will not receive OTAs from Canonical themselves, you may not receive OTAs at all due to this as well (I'm not entirely sure since the filesystem and device parts are separate)
It also looks as though the Yuga port may be abandoned as well, so you may have better luck requesting a port from ubports.com

To: Anyone that can give me a comment.
Hi,
I'm a owner of a Lumia 530 Dual SIM (Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2, Denim) and I'm thinking in what will be happen when Microsoft kill forever (well, almost it made already). Do you think that it will be possible install Ubuntu Touch in a Lumia 530 Dual Sim?
Or, you think that the only future for my Lumia 530 will be the box of the things abandoned?
Any comment welcome!!!

It is currently not possible for the Lumia (any model). Perhaps in the future, you can also likely request UBports do a port for your phone. But no, there is no install package for the Lumia family.

Hi ShadowEO and thanks for your reply. I'll be pending.

You can just test it man..??!
Looks like you have a pre-release device that is usually given to carriers for testing. No, it is not developer-unlocked. All those z-applications at the end of your app list are used for tests.
Note that you might not be able to upgrade to future versions, unless you flash a new shipping ROM. Usually there are no official upgrade paths from mojobld versions.
you can easily flash original roms on this build as the phone is already security unlocked
Did you get this recently from eBay? If so, I got one too. I got all the same apps. I just needed it as a development device, so I'm not too fussed. I've been able to succesfully dev unlock it and deploy code to it. However, I'm not sure whether it works 100% as a regular phone, but I suspect it will.
sorry for late reply
Build is as follow:

latest update will not install error 80180048, I've tried to reflash with stock ROM by RUU and IMG no joy.
and here is an interesting menu i stumble upon:

i got a test radar too. so that's why there are heavy apps preloaded even if I performed a hard reset. but anyway, last night I was able to flash HardSPL on it and now it runs on a custom rom for radar

[Q] Available roms for the Cube U39GT?

I am planning to buy one of these tablets to tinker with. After some searching, I found the following rom alternatives:
http://www.arctablet.com/blog/forum...-firmware-version-1-04-test-version-20130723/
http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/91121-tempestu39gt-roms-v0001/
http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/89434-custom-firmware-from-4pda-based-on-stock-104/
Do you know of any other worthwhile rom to try out, or are these three all that's available?
Anyone?

thanks for sharing, gonna try the TempestU39GT
There's also 1.05 multiwindow rom that some say is better than stock 1.04, download is here :
rom
Do not buy the Cube U39GT-3G version of this tablet, I ordered one from http://www.cube-tablet.com and it came with a wrong IMEI number. I cannot use any SIM data card because of this with this tablet.
I bought the Wifi version, so I am not in danger. Thanks for the warning though, it certainly speaks of extremely crappy QA.
racht: anytime, and thank you for the link to 1.5.
It seems like another rom might be on the works:
http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.php?8204-Are-there-any-worthwhile-roms-for-the-Cube-U39GT
Apparently it will be based on stock 1.04 instead of 1.05, but if it comes to completion it might be worth it to try it out.

ROM has been uploaded yesterday but the dev doesn't own a U39GT. So anyone willing to test can do it now
I can't believe that slipped by me. Thanks for the heads-up. :good:
http://www.arctablet.com/blog/forum...2-custom-root-firmware-version-1-06-20131123/
This looks promising as well with 1.06 Cube firmware update and AOSP launcher.
New original Cube firmware 1.06 is downloadabl from official cube site.
http://www.51cube.com/ch/DownShow.asp?ID=205
I can recommend Google for translating the chinese, you can download the ROM from baidu which could take a few hours.
Awesome, thanks for the heads-up.
They require registration to access the downloads? Dammit, I refuse to create an account just to go and download something. Do you have an account there, locutus2000? If so, would you be willing to mirror it somewhere?
I was able to fix the IMEI issue, so it is safe to buy, again. The support from the vendor was not helpful, the wrong IMEI number is not only wrong for me but for all of the sold models. They all have 111111111111111 as IMEI number, no big deal with the MTK Droid Tools I was able to load a new IMEI, that was generated from an internet site. It works with the SIM cards now.
Important to know: the Cube 9 Talk with the 3G SIM card uses MediaTek MTK8389T CPU whereas the Cube 9 without the SIM card 3G feature uses a RockChip RK3188 CPU. The ROMs are not interchangeable.
So whatever issues you may have, it may be a completely different story for the person that owns the other chipset. Strange enough that Cube built two similar products with completely different hardware.
The Cube U39GT 3G ROM Version 1.03 for the 3G version can be found here:
http://www.51cube.com/ch/DownShow.asp?ID=206
If you have donwloaded and unpacked the firmware, you may end up with chinese folder names. Flash tool did not accept the scatter file when I tried to select it using these folder names.
To resolve this: Simply create a new folder name and copy/paste the ROM of the Cube to the new folder, the update should then work with the Flashtool. I have used Version 3.1328.0.183. The update takes a while so be patient. Worked with mine.

[Q] Run windows on android [Dual Boot]

So these days i was googling for a way to really install windows 8 on android tablets. I came over a video about a software called "changemysoftware". It seems it would make your devicea dual boot with windows 8 and android. What do you think? Is this fake?

But theres a video of someone installing it on their Android, it dual boots windows 8 and android, but windows 8 was laggy due to his dual core tab. There were 200+ likes and 20+ dislikes so, seems legit, he also uploaded the program onto ZippyShare so that you didn't have to do the survey, but when I tried it tells me the software is outdated and needs to be updated, so I cant do it unless I update it completing the survey...
You do know that it can still be faked right?
Give me half an hour and I'll show you how to install any OS on any device. All that was is a video of something on someone's PC screen.
Okay, I know this I am late for the talk but I think this is best for future questions. Just to be clear for other people who is confused with this scam.
The program is .NET framework based so I decompiled it with .NET Reflector. I got the source and trust me, there is no ADB related code. It is picture and text popping out. Also if you try to rename one of its .DLL file, it is the text "changemysoftware" spamming around to make hundreds kilobytes file. You might think I'm lying so you better see the source itself, download the attachment.
Note: Reflector failed to decompile it into Visual basic or C# so .IL file is only working. Try to find "ButtonX_Click" event in the Form1.il. Pictures and assets are in the .resources file.
fake images only
It's a fake. I just tried without connection any device. it showed as my device locked and have to contact them to unlock. to drag money....

Change my software is fake! But there are many ways to run windows on Android:
Can you install it with BOCHS, but it is Windows XP
Can you use TeamViewer but you need a PC
If you find 2 tablets with the same hardware but one with Android the other Windows one then it is not a problem this dual boot with just a some fix to the bootloader. Or if you collect all of the drivers from windows tablets and find Android tablet with hardware that has win drivers and then mod the windows rom...
Only phone I've ever seen that on was the old HTC HD2.
windows can run on android 100% full speed, i have try it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/general/zf2-running-windows-7-using-kvm-t3153299/page29

what the oooooo is this i got to play some game or some thing to download it like ooooooossssss rely
I checked tha there is new version: http://changemysoftware.org
Is it still a scam ?
There is a survey on official site I can't complete that survey actually most of the survey can't completed
Thanks you the advise. I trusted it and downloaded the file. Haha

You can't do that, but may be ask a dev to build a Windows arm build may be?
Technically, yes.You can find arm64 windows rom on UUPdump.
But it does not works on any android so we need to develop.
First you need a rooted 64bit phone with twrp and unlocked bootloader.
Then wait for a dev to re-partition device to only /system ,/ recovery and /bootloader.
Then he needs to develop drivers for that device.
That dev also needs to debug a uefi bootloader and after bootting from usb and install windows, thats done.
But it still need a arch converter which is placed in windows installer that can convert X86 or AMD64 apps (.exe)(.msi)into ARM64 apps.
It is hard so no one(at least not me ) can do this and the device-adding speed will be extremely slow.
(You need to re-develop when the cpu is changed. So only the arch-convertor is usable when you are working on a different device.)
[This is the full process to building windows arm64 build ]
Please note that arm32 is not supported.

Any CWM/TWRP porting tool for MT6580 but 5.1/Lollipop?

Even the auto-search after entering thread title returned only threads with 0 replies...
So i have some no-brand chinese MT6580 running Lollipop 5.1 - not KitKat.
All the automatic and semi-automatic recovery porting tools work only for GB/JB/KK
Sadly the MT6580 kernel source was never leaked, so no compiling also.
Any way to get anything working? i would be even happy with a non-Touch CR...
Bumping this one as I am also looking for a way to port TWRP to my Galaxy S7 clone. And yes, it seems that none of the recovery porting tools seem to work on my end either. :/

I've hacked together a TWRP image for a FiGO "Virtue 2", 512MB, 8GB, MT6580, 5.1 but it is larger than the upload limit so I can not attach it for you. It seems to work with the possible exception thus far of not finding OTG storage, an issue which shall not keep me up at night. Installs, backs up, recovers ..... so far so good.
DISCLAIMER: As everyone says, use at your own risk. If the aliens come and take away your house pets or you experience any other device related or coincidental calamity of any kind, there's nothing I can, should, or will do about it.
Used the Carliv Image Kitchen, my stock recovery image, a TWRP image I found for an Infinix "Hot 2" and the general procedure found at this URL
http://www.xposedgeek.net/how-to-port-philzctrcwmtwrp-recovery-to-your-phone/
If you have the flash stuff for your factory build like I did it is probably a piece of cake, because I am pretty new at this sort of thing and if it can be screwed up I usually can find the way to do so. Took about an hour including thinking time before hitting the button. I was either brave or stupid and didn't even set up a virtual test first, but it works :cyclops: The Almighty must approve of my actions at some level.
Proceed with appropriate caution.
Hope that helps.

The lack of OTG support is indeed something of a shame, but at least this is something. Thanks for the tip mate!
EDIT: OK, so I managed to port TWRP to my device. Only problem is that I had to fiddle with the partitions, and for some reason there seems to be no other way to flip the screen back other than compiling another TWRP image or google my way through a compatible prebuilt by some kid online. I'll post my flipped-screen version ASAP when I get to compile that thing myself.
Sorry for the double-post, but here's the source-built port I made for inverted framebuffers:

I made it for clone devices in mind, but feel free to port or fork this in case you need to use this on your phone.

Will Remix OS boot on x86 android tablet? Answer is unclear? Help

I am a Asus trio tx201la owner and were completely upset that asus offered no other updates beyond android 4.2 to the tablet part. I noticed that samsung did the exact same thing with the samsung galaxy tab 3 10.1 and so did Dell on the venue. The venue and the galaxy tab 3 have same intel atom z2560 cpu soc and is stuck on android 4.2.
Unlike the Asus Trio the Galaxy tab 3 got a lot more attention and thus a lot more custom rom attention.
The galaxy tab 3 has been updated to 7.1.1 with custom rom by linage OS see:
http://techbeasts.com/install-androi...lineageos-141/
Now How can that help the Trio. The Trio has the same soc and is detectable by the intel platform flash tool released in 2017:
https://01.org/android-ia/downloads/...lash-tool-lite
Stock 4.4.2 android provided by intel: https://01.org/android-ia/downloads/android-4.4.2r1-ia2
Then I found a guide on how to use the tool here: http://www.aryk.tech/2016/04/how-to-...ing-intel.html
So I thought I was off to the races to make the update. The problem was I needed a flash.xml and fake the galaxy tab 7.1.1 update onto my tablet but no where could I find this file and certainly not one meant for my tx201la tablet. So I was stuck once again with no update path.
Then I found Remix OS and thought I had something but nope, again I cant find any info on how to get remix to boot on a android tablet? Ive also looked at running chromium OS on my tablet but that update path also seems to be blocked. So is there an answer or is my x86 android tablet dead?

First, you do not want to flash the Galaxy Tab 3 ROM, since while they do share the same CPU and chipset, the same can probably not be said about the rest of the components, from the screen to speaker(s) to the vibration motor (if it has one), so you may well be left with a tablet that barely functions.

About Remix OS, it depends on whether you have a standard EFI (yes, there are 32-bit EFIs) or BIOS, or rather an Andtoid bootloader like most ARM Android devices.

Why is running Chromium OS not an option for you?
Could it be related to the BIOS/EFI/bootloader?

On the galaxy tab 3 consideration, doesn't android use a generic display driver making this possible? I get how some of the parts could be different but it would seem that generic driver support may fill in the gaps, no? Apparently I could get there with MultiROM and see if it at least will boot. It may not I guess. Am i just wasting my time?
Chrimium OS would be great the problem is how to. I look into getting chromium os onto this tablet but all the info was related to installing on a intel pc with a bios. My tablet has android bootloader and I guess that is the big problem. However it seems that if you have root access it should be possible to change the boot kernel that loads or is that not possible? Gentoo is linux just like android so it should be possible to bypass the boot process somehow. Any how to's to do this? Ive googled to no end and it seems all the pieces are there but not any connection between them to run on a z2560 soc like mine.

In terms of display driver support, while ignoring the rest of the hardware, it depends on how the ROM was compiled, and even if you manage to get a picture, unless the screen gets properly detected, you'll only get a resolution of 800x600.
Plus, the touch sensor on the screen requires a completely different driver, to which, as far as I know, there is no standard.

The Android bootloader is based upon Coreboot, however it is specifically built to only boot system's that adhere to Google's boot procedure standards, so while it is theoretically possible to boot any Linux distro with it, you'll need to find one that was specially compiled for it.
The BIOS and EFI utilize completely a different standard, which means that to get a BIOS/EFI complient system to boot, you'll need to completely replace the bootloader, regardless of root or custom kernels.
And unless someone had already compiled one for your device, you're looking at a feat that is way above most people (even experienced enthusiasts), since this is goes much deeper than the OS.
While in my opinion, the time spent researching this is definitely worth it, unless you find a custom-built BIOS or EFI, or you learn how to build kernels and ROMs (the latter is easier), your tablet is pretty much stuck at where it is for the time being.
That said, I prefer to look at this kind of situation optimistically, without deluding anyone.
The current situation may be rather bleak, and the chances of getting out of it may be slim at the moment, however they exist, and they are slim at the current moment, nothing given about the future.
While we shouldn't get high hopes, we must not extinguish them either.
Thanks for the info. Ill keep looking. I bet some amazing hack will come out in the future to bypass the boot process. Multirom already sorta does this, so the least I can do is test it.

I too am sure of it, however I try to be wary at the same time.
I'd like to point you in the direction of Coreboot and Libreboot for information on some of the possibilities.
I'll check them out..
Update: looks like there sorta replacements for a bios. Maybe the devs will attempt an android bootloader port.

That is true, but at least you can try disassembling what you can to allow skilled developers to, at the very least, take a look.

Yeah I'll look into it. Since Asus also made a tablet only tx201la called the tx201laf (released only in France) could I use the Intel flash tool to flash it's Ron? See: https://www.asus.com/supportonly/TX201LAF/HelpDesk_BIOS/
At least it's an update to android 4.4.

I would first make sure that hardwarewise, they are indeed the same, even though this does look pretty good.

Gave it a shot with standard update procedure & no go. Says hardware ids don't match. I can't use Intel flash tool cuz Asus image is raw format with no flash.xml. so I'm still screwed.

Can you please send me a flash.xml for the samsung tablet?
I'm by no means an expert, however I may be able to glean some information from it that may help towards building one for your ASUS tablet.
Unfortunately that is what stopped me from flashing the galaxy tab 3 linageos image on my tx201la tablet, there is no flash.xml included because you need to flash via custom recovery.

Hmm...
Then I'll need to search for such a file when I'll have the time.
This should also help me with a small no-name tablet my father had bought.

I'm looking into multi rom which may offer some sorta option. Take a look at that.

That looks great, even if it is pretty outdated.
I'll test it out when I have the time.

Actually, since I have managed to find bootloader unlocks for my tablets, in the end I had never gotten to test it out.
