Does my phone have a heating problem? - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

This is my replaced device already. (Previous one had a faulty camera)
As soon as i satrted using the phone, i could feel the back of the phon(near the camera) being warmer..
I did not think of it much before but then this was always the case.
Even when the phone was sitting idle in my pocket or lying on the desk(on wifi!!), the phone used to be warm.
The reason I am concerned is because this was never the case with my previous RN3(the one that had a defective camera),
it would warm up only on usage.
While this one is warm even when sittinng idle
I did some diggin, checked temperatures,
Here's what I found (screenshots as attachments)
Should I send this phone for replacement??
Can someone explain what pa_therm1 is and why is it so high?
The temperatures reported below are the ones while writing this post from RN3 , on MIUI 7.3.7.0

Another screenshot... Phone idle, on wifi.. on gaming, the temperatures go much beyond that.
Also I checked with another redmi note 3, the temperatures on that phone are much lower.
Pa_therm1 has a difference of 15 degrees.
I also noticed my cpu revision is r0p0 where as the other RN3i compared with had r0p4
Any ideas??

[Q] HELP~~ battery temperature too high

anyone can help me with my problem? thanks for paying attention to my thread 1st
i'm experiencing overheat of my battery which is around 45 degree Celsius on normal use
the lowest i can get is around 42, which is very high, doesnt matter i took it out for couple hours and put it back, temperature still the same, around 10 degree higher than normal
is it possible that the thermometer thing inside the battery has gone hay wired? if so how can i recalibrate it?
btw i'm getting tis temperature both with android and wm platform, even when i'm doin nothing and it is standby
my wm rom is dutty's family v7 and radio 2.15.50.14, android is mdj froyoHD 7.3 kernel 7.6HD
and i never overclock my phone
I suffered from overheating (self resets around 35C), finished with mainboard replaced,
what suprises me is that your unit still works, even though the temp. is that high, first question: is the temp. reading accurate? if the battery cover does not feel that warm it could be some kind of sensor problem,
otherwise check if the battery pins are not bent - this can lead to overheating,
if not I'm afraid you should contact HTC support and send it for repair
the battery cover is definitely not warm at all
the reading is tis high even i took out the battery and reinsert couple of hours later
the only problem is the temperature reading is tat high it wont allow charging sometimes
apart from the two obvious choices you have, ie. reflashing ROM or sending it for repair, you could also try recalibrating the battery as described here (although even if it works, it seems to solve percentage reading problems, no mention about temperature there, otoh it shouldn't hurt to try),
also I recall seeing similar thread here, so there was at least one more person afflicted in similar way

temperature

hi guys, i have just got the phone, but i think is overheating too early. What is the idle temperature of yours? mine is approx 39-40, but for example, if i download 2 or 3 apps, then it goes 50+.
Is it normal?
I don't have any problem of heat on mine, just when it's on charge yes but it because of quick charge so... I didn't check the temperature but everything seems alright even in game ?

Hi,
I took this phone to be able to compare it to the OP3. They offer more or less the same specs for about the same price, with some pros (slightly bigger screen, 2k display) and cons (no jack, lack of support in Europe, battery ?).
The LeEco doesn't really go hot. Even under heavy load, it goes only mildly warm. But it is in fact much warmer than the OP3 used in the same conditions (same apps, same TPU cover). But in every circumstance, it is much cooler than, i.e. my Nexus 5.
Regards.

ok, but whats the "secure" range of temperature? i use cpu-z and sometimes i see under heavy load 60,65 deegrres. Is it safe?

Hi skoulikios13,
Can't really tell... but those kinds of value do not seem out of range for me.
Then again, I'm more used to Dual Xeon CPU in my computer... and those go slightly hotter when I am compiling my own ROM
Of course, I think you do not need to worry...
If your device goes too hot, it'll throttle at first, and in worst case force itself to shut down.
Regards.

yes, why?
No issues here i have mine for a week now. After 10 or more rounds of Antut it stays around 39.

No temperature problems.
in operation 27-35 °C
in flash 40-50°C
LeEco Le max. 2 6/64 GB
My le max2 in operation go go 50°C too, i have to downclock it to 1200 MHz to have 38/39°C i think this is not normal...

Benchmarks

Hi guys, this is something that keeps me up at night. The recent software update was supposed to make performance of the Moto Z better, and in actual daily usage I find nothing to complain about, but when it comes to benchmarks it's a whole different story, I have the uk version by the way. To be frank, I used to get about 129 000 in antutu, which is pretty low to start with, and now it's down to 126 000, geekbench is lower than you would expect from this phone too, at about 1350 single core and 3810 multicore. So basically I started this thread as a place where we could share our benchmark results and discuss them, because I have a feeling I just got an unlucky unit, because it also gets real hot real fast (up to 60 degrees celcium), and I can't make it last for more that 4 hours of screen on time, and I'm really not a heavy user. I just feel strange about this phone, because I love everything else about it, and it’s good that I do, because resale value on these things is beyond awful, tried to sell it for 500 bucks for months with no success.
Benchmarks mean abso-farking-lutly nothing. If they are keeping you up any night, you have a mental issue. I suggest you see a shrink.

Well, there is no reason to be so toxic my friend, my main concern is that I may be the only one here with such a low score, and since the score got even lower after some time that could mean I may have a defective device, and that would be a real problem to keep me up at night.
I don't think there's a problem with your unit, 4 hours screen on time sounds normal without the battery mod on. That drop in benchmark score isn't very significant unless it continues to drop dramatically. I have the UK model too, and it is underclocked by default to 1.8GHz. You could try the Turbo Z kernel to improve it
Also mine gets really hot fast when using Daydream VR or anything intensive but 60 °C isn't dangerous for the SD820. (You could check battery use in settings incase something is keeping your phone awake.)
Geekbench 4:
Single core 1369
Multi core 3779
Seems benchmarks are pretty similar. I'm on rooted Android N but stock kernel so same as yours.

The only benchmark that matters is the one between your ears. And according to you, it passed.
in actual daily usage I find nothing to complain about

Thank you for your comforting and friendly reply, in battery settings Android OS, Android system, and phone idle are on top when I'm not using the phone actively, I've had laughable results sometimes, like yesterday I had 30 percent battery left with only about an hour of screen on time, again no gaming involved, but this usually happens when I'm moving around, if I stay at home and nothing happens to the phone it usually won't drain battery like that. I think the reason the phone gets hot easily is obviously because of how thin it is, for example, when I keep it in the pocket it's just as hot as my body tempreture, since it just absorbs heat that easily, but has a hard time getting rid of it.

You're welcome. If you click on the graph you can see the awake time too, lately something has been keeping mine awake and draining the battery too. Not sure what it is yet, but if yours is getting really bad screen on time it could be similar. Likely an app running in the background keeping the phone awake which would heat it up more and drain the battery. There are wake lock detection apps that claim to be able to tell you which is causing this.
As you can see it's awake for long periods of time when the screen is off, and it really shouldn't be. Hope this helps :good:

Overheating

Not sure if you guys experienced this, but I was playing around with the Google Assistant in Akinator and my device temperature went sky high up to the point where the phone notified me that it has to dim the screen and take action against that.
I set my phone to the max resolution and framerate, and I also keep it in the silicone bumper they shipped.
Did you guys ever see this happen too?
P.s. it wasn't charging.

No issues here, in fact I've been impressed with how cool it stays. Hammered some benchmarks and it barely went over 45c
This is obviously just sat idling now but I've been using the phone for over an hour on max resolution, 90hz and no power saving.
I faced the same in two instances. One, when I was transferring files through Xender. Second, when my Google Photos were syncing with cloud.
Received the same notification as well. The phone was untouchably hot and battery drained a lot faster.
My assumption is whenever there's a big load of data transfer, the phone turns unbearably hot.
I really don't know why you're experiencing this, I have barely put my phone down today and it's been ambient temperature at best including when playing COD. I've got a fair sized file transfer going here and temperatures are absolutely fine
I should also point out before my first screenshot at 10am I had 17 hours standby. I've used my phone on and off all day for web browsing, music and some gaming and in the second screenshot 10 hours later I still have 30% battery remaining and it's not once gotten hot at all. Running 10.0.3 since yesterday afternoon.

Great to know that, I have no clue why we are facing this then. I was hoping it will get better with the future software updates.
Also, there's so much less to read about OnePlus 7T Pro compared to OnePlus 7 Pro. Seems a lot of people did not go for it hence the development is really less, I hope it catches up soon. Waited for so long to get a OnePlus device.
I am facing the same issue, sometimes I'll be doing literally nothing but messaging and the phone will become uncomfortably warm like in the 60's - 70°c also my battery life is quite lower than expected around 4 hours SOT I'm going to try a factory reset and hope for the best
Having exactly the same issue, brand new unit. Delivered today, CPU temps reaching 85 Celsius ! (updated to latest Android 10, not charging, not playing games or doing any intense tasks).
I own a OP6 and OP2 and never felt such uncomfortable heat while holding the phone, hoping its just a deficient unit and not a general problem with the OP7T Pro.
Pic attached.

Question Any overheating issues with your new Pixel 6/6 Pro?

Google hasn't had the best track record with their previous Pixels. They've all seemed to have at least one hardware issue. The Pixel 5s have overheating problems for example. Just wondering if anyone has run into any issues?
Haven't heard of any... but it's early in the game!
My 6 got hot during the initial setup, but once I turned off the 5G it cooled off a bit and I stayed on Wi-Fi.
Only a bit of warmth during initial setup, nothing that concerned me much.
The phone got very hot during charging.
Ok i just received my pixel 6 pro few hours ago and i am noticing heat issue around the back, starting from curve area, as i keep on using i can feel temperature in the back and screen as well. Really disappointed. I dont know what shall i do next

I am having the same exact issue. I went to the store and they told me that they will send the phone for assessment and will take a month. Ridiculous
Nope!
Video recording literally stopped after 7 min of 4k 60fps because the phone got too hot.
I got a message telling me to wait until the phone cools down. The screenshot of this message didn't even save..
My pixel 6 pro is getting hot during normal use too. Guess they need to update.
Yes it is getting extremely hot only by using insta, facebook, TikTok. No games installed. Left side of the phone starts getting warm then screen and back.
My phone was delivered on 26th Oct still have same issue. It looks like it'll be a case like snapdragon 810
My phone was overheating and battery drain a lot but since i put 4G on prefered nerwork, battery isn't draining anymore and don't heat no more.
Usefull or useless ?
My Pixel 6 Pro overheats recording 4K 60 and stops after 10-12min. Room temp 25c with no case.
I tried 4K 30 with the same results.
1080p 30 on the other hand can keep on going indefinitely I think. I got a message at 28min that the phone is getting hot, but it didn't stop the recording. Around 40min it reached thermal saturation and was fluctuating between 43c and 44.4c. I stopped it at 48:49min.
I think the new camera sensor overheats before the SoC and stops the recording.
my pixel 6 is overheating on a daily use. battery tab in setting telling me Instagram is sucking the battery, so I guess it's because of Instagram.
pixel 5 performed much better, to be honest. the battery also doesn't last that long. it's kinda disappointing. i thought it could be because my initial install somehow went wrong, so i am actually right now backing all up to do a factory reset. But after finding this thread, i seem not to be the only one, .. struggling with the idea to send it back.
do you think they will fix it? nobody else seems to complain. i mean no review ever said anything about overheating..

i will give this a try. if this will still drain my battery and overheating the phone I will go back to my pixel 5. glad I didn't sell it that fast
My pixel 6 is overheating on 4G/5G and battery drains fast. Browsing YT, video freeze and hangs. Same scenario, but connected to wireless network, getting +8h SOT, no freeze, no heat.
Just so everyone understands.
The P6 back cover plate is a heat sink.
The back plate is lined with copper to pull heat away from the electronics.
So with this in mind, the back plate can get hot while charging or heavy use.

Yeah, this has been surprising to me. So either Google is sending an altered version or reviewers don't use the phone that much and just make the video. Literally everyone I know who got the pixel 6/pro can feel the heat within few hours

I'm kinda glad to hear I'm not the only one, but it's pretty disappointing.
I now factory reset my phone without transferring old data from my old phone, just used backup'ed data from google one.
I need to test that out. definitely changing the preferred network type from 5G to LTE helped a bit. but battery performance still seems to be horrible bad in comparison to the Pixel 5.
it seems like you can not rely on youtube reviews for smartphones nowadays :/ looking at you Marques
I do run my phones with a case so sometimes hard to tell. Only time I experience warmth is running a couple mobile games, but they did this on my Pixel 5 as well. No extreme overheating or extreme battery draining experienced.
