New to LG g3 - Verizon LG G3

Hi all, I'm on 47a. Can someone direct me to the current root method?

Hi!
Please post question threads in the Q&A section. I'll ask a moderator to move this thread.
If the VS985 model # behind the battery doesn't have a "K" after it like VS985WK...
How to downgrade, root and put TWRP on:

If it does have a "K" then you can't root or downgrade.

Pretty much. One little caveat that probably will matter very little: If for some reason your firmware version is NOT marshmallow and you haven't OTA'd it to marshmallow, you can still downgrade and subsequently root "K" models using your DD method.
I know, It's just tricky as heck comparatively to remember all that. Quite a mouthful.

[Q] We want to go back to KK?

First, thanks for taking the time to read this helping! The wife and I both have stock Verizon G3 on build 23C. So far, the G3 is the only phone I HAVEN'T rooted, but we both hate LP. Will someone tell me what to do to get back to either stock KK or, more preferred, a debloated version of it? I've tried looking for it, but there's just so much data here!
Again, thanks in advance.

This post here will get you back to stock KK. Download the 12b KDZ at the bottom of the first post. I don't believe anyone released a debloated stock ROM, although there are some stock based ROMs that come without the bloat.

You're welcome! Lucky for me you had just posted the link in the previous thread I read.
Thank you both. Gonna try it on my phone tonight
Why are you wanting to go back? I'm thinking of flashing the lollipop kdz to update. No ota for me because I'm not on Verizon.
Any reason I should hold off on lollipop and just root 12b?

Lg g3 vs98547A. Is there a downgrade

I got a friend who has a lg g3 and is on vs98547A. No root. Is it possible to downgrade from 47A to at least 10B or to an os that can be rooted. Thanks
Please don't post the same question in multiple threads. This, however, was the correct place to post it.
If you don't care about having root and custom recovery, then you can downgrade one of three ways, but I'll only discuss the first two ways as the third way is more complicated and more focused on those who need a "last-ditch" effort to downgrade and get TWRP put on.
1. You can downgrade from 46A or 47A to 35B by flashing the 35B KDZ with LG Flash Tool 2014.
2. You can downgrade to any KDZ previous to 35B (10B, 12B, 23C or 24B) by first flashing the 10B TOT using the 35B .DLL, and then you can flash whatever KDZ you like.
If you do want to be rooted and have a custom recovery, then go with option #2 as far as flashing the 10B TOT using the 35B .DLL, root with the Stump app, then use TWRP Manager from the Play Store to flash TWRP, then you can flash whatever ROM you want.

No problem.
No, I meant something different.
From 35B, 46A or 47A, you can only flash KDZs 35B and higher. The only way to downgrade to lower than 35B from 35B, 46A or 47A is to use the 10B TOT with the 35B .DLL.
You don't have to go to 35B first in order to get to 10B. For some reason when I was replying at first I forgot you said about "so you can root".
TOTs are like KDZs but actually they flash more partitions than KDZs do, and they use a different program and instructions to flash. You can find all the KDZs and the only TOT we have, along with the 35B .DLL in my Android File Host section which I link to from @annoyingduck 's stickied return to stock thread in the General section, also the first link in my signature below. The software to flash TOTs you'll have to Google for.
We used to use a different .DLL to flash the 10B TOT, but it didn't work once we got to 35B. A user found that using the .DLL that's extracted from the 35B KDZ enabled us to use the TOT method on 35B and above (so far) again.

I tried LGUp once. I couldn't get it to work. To my understanding, it's for the D855 variant only, but I could be wrong. There's a link at the top of the second post of that stickied thread I mentioned to some TOT directions, but the OP of that thread doesn't maintain it any more so I don't know if any links to the flashing software, etc, work, but you might at least get an idea of what you're looking for there.

I have no personal experience with that. To my understanding, it's basically a central repository for all things needed for different aspects of doing things with the VS985 - it makes use of the same individual tools that are available outside the toolkit. It may work for what you need.
I've preferred to use the tools necessary to do what needs doing, directly.

i can try out the tool kit and see how it will do for me. i am still lost on this downgrade process at the moment and i don't wont to bother you with 20 questions on your method, if the took kit works for me i will still give you credit for helping out, even tho i said friend, i want to upgrade my g3 to 47A so i can mess with the downgrade process and make a youtube video walk through to help people who has no idea to do this like me at the moment, but i do the homework figuring out things till i understand them
here is a video how to do the V10 vs990 root and i had a few people said i helped out along with lg G4 root and all, i still give credit to people who do those methods.

my phone has never been on 47A i am on 35B using jasmine Rom, i was on 12B at the first with my g3 stock, can i KDZ 47A to my G3 and have no issues or what?

Makes a big difference if it's a 985k series or not. The 'k' phones seem to be booby trapped to not allow a rollback in order to root them etc.

It's a bit confusing, as the most recent pcbs are etched "VS985 PCB v1.0 (2)." Which we might consider as version 1, revision 2. So there doesn't seem to be a version 2.

No, it's actually that there can be a "(2)" (revision, whatever) PCB without the K markings. "K" is a guarantee of a r2 PCB though.

VS9854BA root without downgrading?

Hi- I'm trying to help a friend recover some accidentally-deleted photos from internal memory, and unfortunately it seems that I need root access to image that. She's running VS9854BA, and none of the rooting methods I've found so far seem to support it. I tried Kingroot as a last resort as well, but it wasn't able to successfully root, either.
Are there any other options besides downgrading the OS to a more exploitable version? I would just proceed with that, but I'm worried about the downgrade putting too much churn on the disk and overwriting the areas we're trying to recover from.
Can anyone suggest any other options?
thanks in advance!

No. Downgrading is the only option, but only if you don't have revision 2 hardware along with a "K" variant, which if memory serves, is indicated underneath the battery beside the tiny VS985 such as VS985WK.
If there's a K anywhere after the VS985, then you can't downgrade at all (would likely brick it), and therefore no root.

Bummer. I had previously checked for a K after reading as much as I could from you and the other very helpful forum members, so I knew we were ok there, but now I feel a bit better about not being able to find any documentation on rooting that particular version.
Anyway, despite the bad news, thanks again for the help with this!

VS985 6.0 root

Forgive me if I'm in the wrong forum or thread for this.
I had my VS985 G3 rooted with Lollipop but I unrooted to upgrade to Marshmallow a while back. Interested in rooting again but I'm having trouble finding a method for my build number, which is MRA58K. Android version is 6.0. I searched around and found methods for the 47A build but nothing for 58K. Does anyone know if there is a root method for the G3 with 6.0 and the MRA58K build?
Unfortunately not, 47A is the latest VS985 build number which has a root method available.
@jmillgrip questions go in the Q&A section. Report your own post to a moderator and ask them to move it there by clicking the /!\ icon on the lower left corner of your post.
If you do not have a "K" after the VS985 under the battery such as VS985WK, then you can downgrade via the VS985 10B TOT and root etc from there. They are literally dozens of threads that mention how to do this in the General and Q&A sections.
If your model does have a K somewhere after the VS985 (it won't show in Android's About menu, only under the battery), then you absolutely cannot downgrade or root once you're on Marshmallow.
Ok thanks. I reported the post to have it moved. Can I ask, if the 47A build is the latest one that has a root method then why wouldn't I downgrade to that instead of 10B?
I checked under the battery and there's is no K.
Thanks for your help!

Thanks for having it moved, and you're welcome! You're in the minority of people who actually have their posts moved even after I tell them how to do it.
I saw your other post about it being a build higher than 47A, but 1) I don't even remember being able to root 47A directly, 2) I moved on from this phone five months ago and no longer have it, 3) If 47A is able to be rooted, it was either through a workaround and was actually just an alternate method of downgrading so that you can root that I tested and posted about that was clunky at best but bricked a very few people, and permanently bricked maybe 2-3 people (but that was also before we knew about the "K" variant so that could've been a factor) AND/OR it involved KingRoot, which I recommend avoiding at all costs when possible, and 4) long story short - too late, it is just plain easiest to root and install TWRP from 10B. I apologize for over-explaining, it's just what I do.
Ok I see. I definitely don't want to do anything shifty. My phone is super stable and I like it that way. I just want root to get rid of bloatware mainly. 10b will take me back to Lollipop though correct? I really want to stay with Marshmallow.
Ok I think I understand. I downgrade to install TWRP and get root access. Then I can upgrade back to Marshmallow if I want?

that's correct. you'll need to flash a rom that's already rooted. XDABBEB's VS985 3.1.1 is a good one. you'll also need to flash the correct bootstack that goes with the rom. follow the instructions in the post and you should be good.
Thanks. The ROM seems cool. I'm just not totally understanding which bootstack is the correct one.
