I have rooted my MM6.0 (H90120e) couple of months back and just heard that we have a new version 20j with bluetooth and battery life fixes. How can I update my phone to 20j. It will be great if I can go to 20j from my current rooted 20e without losing root. But if it is not possible am OK with losing root too (in that case you need to help me with re-rooting). If OTA/dirty flash is not possible, I am OK backing it up and then updating.
Please advise. Thanks in advance.

[ROM] [STOCK] [H901] V10_H901_V20J_Stock_Custom_2e [08/15/2016]
I did this. Basically, flash "part 1", reboot recovery, flash "part 2", profit. Make SURE the part 1 you use is for 20J.
I did clean flash, as is always recommended, however OP said he did dirty with no issues, YMMV.

Thanks. Sorry, am bit confused after reading that post. Am no expert in these stuff. Could you please give me the exact steps to follow provided I am trying dirty flash.
There are detailed instructions later in that thread. I literally downloaded the 20J part 1, 20J full part 2, rebooted to recovery, flashed part 1, rebooted again to recovery, flashed part 2, reboot.
If you're rooted on 20E, your bootloader is already unlocked, so you don't need any of the other steps.

Thanks. That helps. I will try that.
I need help also. I am on MM 6.0 rooted and bootloader unlocked with TWRP recovery installed, question. Can this part 1 20j and part 2 20j be installed from the recovery?

I have downloaded the Part 1 and Part 2 and copied it to the phone. Will be trying it tonight.
Just to confirm the steps:
1) Go to recovery with "adb reboot recovery" and then flash Part 1. (I tried Power and Vol down, but didn't work for me. Is there a way without using a computer)
2) Flash Part 1
3) Reboot to Recovery (Is that needed? Is there an option in TWRP to reboot to Recovery again? Sorry I forgot. If not how to reboot to recovery after the first flash)
4) Flash Part 2.
5) Reboot to full system.

Thank you guys. Dirty flashed as mentioned and everything looking good.
For others in the same situation, below are the steps I followed.
1) Downloaded and saved 20J Part 1 and and 20J Full Part 2 and copied those to phone.
2) Rebooted the phone to recovery from Quick Boot app. (Hope any option will work instead - adb, hardware keys)
3) Flashed Part 1
4) Rebooted to recovery again
5) Flashed Part 2
6) Reboot
I didn't do any cleanup/wipe. But everything looks to be good. Didn't have to re-root or anything. To be on the safe side, I backed up some important data and apps using Titanium before the upgrade. But no issues happened during the procedure.
Thanks again.
I'm new to this device in general. I'm on stock unrooted 20e. So 20j will help battery?

Yes it is slightly improved and there is no drawback to update to v20j. Only thing is you cannot downgrade it afterwards (it will brick your device) but I don't see any reason to downgrade, 20J is better than earlier versions.
Thanks, I had the same doubts

Complete Noob Guide To Access Root on Android 4.4.2 (NC5)Helpful Guide by Reconde
This guide will thoroughly explain how to obtain root on Android 4.4.2 (NC5)
There is ONLY ONE FILE needed for the entire process, download it here: http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23501681358538076File provided by: @gigilie
Proceed after downloading and extracting the file above.
1. Navigate to /ODINv3.10 > Odin3 v3.10.0 and run it. In Odin, click on the AP slot and navigate to MK2_system_4downgrade_rooting_all_in_one and open it. Before going to the next step, you must put /safestrap flashable files-modules-quickupgrades-supersu onto your SD card, this is important. You will also need to download gogolies-wififix-VZW-retail-NC5-w-modules-SS.zip, and put it into the folder you just put onto your SD card.
2. Now, turn your Galaxy S4 completely off and boot it into Download Mode by turning it on and holding the volume up button at the same time. Once your phone is booted into Download Mode, plug it into your computer and press "Start" in Odin.
3. After the downgrade file has been flashed to your device, let it boot, set it up, and then go to Settings and enable Developer Options (this can be done by going to "About device" in settings, and clicking on "Build Number" several times until the phone says "Developer mode has been turned on"). Open developer options and enable USB debugging.
4. Back on your computer, navigate to the folder /apps-for-android-down-and-upgrades > /saferoot and run install.bat
5. After following instructions given by the command prompt, your phone should now be rooted. Now, transfer Safestrap-JFLTE-3.72-kk-B01 (found in /apps-for-android-down-and-upgrades) to your phone and install it. ***IF PLANNING ON INSTALLING A CUSTOM ROM IT MUST BE ON YOUR EXTERNAL SD CARD BEFORE THIS STEP. IF PLANNING ON KEEPING ROOTED STOCK ROM, VZW_NC5_PREROOTED-gogolie.zip(stock ROM- KNOX FREE) must be on SD card*** In safestrap, click install recovery, and when that is finished click Reboot to recovery.
6. In safestrap, go to Wipe > Advanced and wipe only dalvik and cache. After this, go to Install and install the custom, or stock, ROM of your choice (must be a 4.4.2 ROM) **IMPORTANT: ROM MUST BE INSTALLED ON STOCK SLOT** After installing the ROM you must flash jfltevzw-NC5-modules (found under /safestrap flashable files-modules-quickupgrades-supersu) and add to the queue gogolies-wififix-VZW-retail-NC5-w-modules-SS.zip AND UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.94. Now flash and wipe dalvik and cache again.
7. After installing your ROM correctly, reboot the phone into Download mode in safestrap by going to Reboot > Download. Now open Odin and insert NC5_4.42-ODIN_UPGRADE-FOR-4.3-NO-SYSTEM-NO-BOOTLOADERS-gogolie (found under /odin flashable files-modemhlos-bootimgs) into the AP slot and press start.
8. Reboot your phone into safestrap after Odin has finished. You must wipe dalvik and cache one last time and then flash jfltevzw-NC5-modules again and you are done! Your phone should now be rooted on NC5.
If you have any issues after completing the process, feel free to reply to this thread or send me a PM!
Special thanks to @gigilie for putting the files and other guide together. His thread can be found here.

Okay! First of all I would like to thank you for condensing this and making it bit more understandable. I'm usually really nervous about messing around with rooting (even though it's my second time), so simplified things like this really take the stress off.
the one question I had, is...
In step 7 you say to put "...open Odin and insert NC5_4.42-ODIN_UPGRADE-FOR-4.3-NO-SYSTEM-NO-BOOTLOADERS-gogolie."
Which slot in odin do I place it in? AP like before?

Wonderful! Thanks so much for the quick response and help with understanding all of this! I'll let you know how my root and custom ROM installation attempts go.
Update: I pulled it off and got my first custom ROM running as well! Might want to consider mentioning how to install the minor parts in step 6, after custom roms (like having to press the three dots and whatnot). that was the only place I had gotten tripped up. All in all, very effective tut. Thank you kindly.

Did you use this with installing hyperdrive? Since that ROM uses an aroma installer you have to click the three dots and click exit or it will automatically reboot. You don't have to do that with roms that don't use the aroma installer.

Oh! Yes I did. Sorry, I didn't know that hyperdrive installed differently than other roms. Good to know, though, and hopefully people who have similar problems can scroll down and find this, as it's probably not worth being in the OP, haha.
In @gigili orginal post, it says if you're on stock rooted 4.3 MK2 to start with step 3. I'm on stock, rooted 4.3 MK2 (I never take OTA update until I know I can root), so on your method do I start from the beginning, start from step 2, or from the middle of step 1 "Before going to the next step, you must put /safestrap flashable files-modules-quickupgrades-supersu onto your SD card, this is important. where do I find /safestrap flashable files-modules-quickupgrades-supersu?
Edit: nm i figured it out I had a corrupt download and it did not have those files...redownloaded and now im good!

You will want to do the part in the middle of step 1, and then you can skip to step 3 and go from there.
I followed the original instructions to the end (which said to skip the rom flashing steps for stock ROM). I grabbed I545VRUFNC5-Stock-Root-Odex.zip and can't seem to get the flash to work. Is there a certain step I should go back to?
Does this procedure trip the Samsung Knox flag?
After step 7 got this error on reboot:
E:Error in /cache/recovery/sec_csc.zip (Status 7)
I'm not sure what I did wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

only problem with the above file josh is that KNOX is all over it still. yucky...
gogolie's NC5 Rooted/ KNOX FREE:
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23329332407590564 is my version with no KNOX was released a little earlier than that other ROM and I didnt publicly put it out there as much as I maybe should have. with all 4.4.2 ROM's you need to flash SuperSu 1.94.zip file after installing ROM or you will probably lose root or not have binaries installed... so be sure and always flash that file after installing a ROM in Safestrap!
also I gave Reconde the okay to start this thread, its endorsed by me and I thank him for giving props and not just copying my stuff Thanks buddy. Sorry about not being the best with words... figuring out how things work is more my specialty. Users feel free to ask any questions in the main thread I will answer or respond still as soon as I'm able you can also keep up with current development for the 4.4.2 as well as ROM's and testing ROM's there in that thread. Thanks guys!

try the files i listed just before this post. they will be your answer. and sometimes you will get that no os error depending on what ROM and system your using its totally normal for instance my mk2 AOSP roms say that everytime yet they boot absolutely fine its just an error from Safestrap sometimes not reading the system folder correctly but has no outcome on the booting of the ROM. Ignore that error as long as you think you properly installed it.
**You can begin the following process from any Build/ROM but you must already have Root Access**
**Required** FlashFire - Play BETA - PREVIEW
1. Join the G+ community using the same Google account as you're using for Play on your phone/tablet Here.
2. Sign up to receive the BETA versions from Play Here.
- Use the link provided after sign-up to download the app.
**Caution!** The process below is only for the G900T T-Mobile S5 Variant. Use on any other device may result in a hardbrick!
Download:
- G900T_OB1_Stock_Rooted_ROM
- G900T_OB1_Stock_DeOdexed_ROM
Set screen timeout to 10 mins before beginning!
1. Place the ROM onto your device (use either internal or ext-sdcard).
2. Open the FlashFire app and "Agree" to the Terms and Conditions.
3. Press "(+)" twice to bring up the "Actions" menu.
4. Select "Flash Zip or OTA" and locate and select the ROM. Leave "Auto-mount" unchecked under the "Options" menu and press the checkmark to continue.
5. From the main menu Uncheck all options under "EverRoot" and use default "Reboot" setting.
6. Last, press the lightning bolt then "Ok" to begin the flash .
The screen will turn black then display the contents of your system before beginning the flash. FlashFire will pause for about 1 minute while flashing the "system" partition. Once complete your device will reboot and pause on the T-Mobile splash screen for about 1 -2 minutes (10 - 15 mins for the DeOdexed version) before completely rebooting. Done!
Tip: for blazing fast speed turn off animations from Developer Options and reboot!
Known Issues:
- None!
Optional - Enable Native Tethering:
- G900T_OB1_TetherAddOn (Flash using FlashFire's "Flash Zip or OTA" option).
Notes:
1. This process will not affect your knox warranty flag.
2. The above process will update your Modem, Non-hlos, System, Kernel, Stock Recovery, and Bootloader to OB1. No need to wipe prior to flashing!
3. If you are currently unrooted and on a non-"Towelroot-able" firmware version you must first a)downgrade to G900TUVU1ANE5 using Odin(perform a factory data reset from recovery after flashing), b)root using Towelroot, then continue with the above process.
Anyone confirmed this for the G900T with pictures and all? If it works, I'll give it an update to the compilation thread.

You can but the whole point is to not use TWRP because it trips your warranty flag.
I just tried this and KNOX has not been tripped. Once my phone has completed the update I'll upload some screenshots.

I just went back to KitKat today from stock G900T OTA update. I googled "downgrade galaxy s5 lollipop to kitkat" and the 1st option was a tutorial from AndroidCentral titled "TUTORIAL: Downgrade Samsung Galaxy S5 from 5.0 to 4.4 KitKat."
I successfully downgraded to 4.4.2 after 2 reboots and running "wipe data/factory reset". From there I followed the steps in OP for rooted 5.0 Lollipop.

People previously attempted this method by using the inject SuperSU option in MobileOdin. The problem is MobileOdin uses SuperSU v1.94 which is incompatible with 5.0.
Users are now instructed in the OP to untick the inject SuperSU option. Instead the ROM is pre-rooted with SuperSU v2.46.
Worked flawlessly, thanks muniz!

**Caution!** The following process is only for the Verizon I545 S4 Variant. Use on any other device may result in a hardbrick!
***FlashFire v19 Recommended***

Attention! Set your screen timeout to 10 mins before beginning!
Once complete your device will reboot and pause on the Verizon splash screen for about 2 - 3 minutes (10 - 15 mins for DeOdexed version) before completely rebooting. Done!
Tip: for blazing fast speed turn off animations from Developer Options and reboot!
Known Issues:
- None!
- When reporting an issue please always include your starting firmware, FF version, and relevant details.
Optional:
- I545_OC1_TetherAddOn (Flash using FlashFire's "Flash zip or ota" option).
- I545_OC1_Batch_Debloater (Customizable)
Notes:
1. FlashFire has a bug which sometimes causes a premature reboot during the flash resulting in getting stuck on the Samsung boot screen. To avoid this press the Volume Key every few seconds during the flash. Seeing "Rebooting....." at the end of the flash usually indicates a successful flash.
2. The above process will not affect your Knox Warranty Flag.
3. The process will update your Modem, Non-hlos, System, Kernel, and Stock Recovery to OC1 and your Bootloader to NK4 (the NK4 bootloader allows for downgrading your firmware to NC5).
4. Safestrap will no longer function after updating to OC1.
5. If you do not already have root access (or to unbrick) flash the Full Wipe NC5 Odin .tar (Caution!: do not flash if you took the OC1 ota update), root with Towelroot, then proceed with the above process.

Muniz_ri i finally got around to it. I flashed it and everything booted up fine. Right now i am running lollipop and no crashes yet. The only bug i found is the WIFI. if you depend on wifi a lot do not update it yet. it seems to be broken. but everything else seems to work. Also the playstore doesn't seem to want to download apps. but how it says FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS. if you need to read it 5 times do it. But once again nice Job Muniz_ri.
Update I figured how to fix the playstore. U need to wipe data from the playstore app for it to work. If u can't download any apps. So is back to just the wifi issue.
thanks @muniz_ri
everything works fine with me except WIFI.
is there any way to fix WIFI issue?
Update: Works great, WIFI is working now
This was a fast process but I'm also having wifi problems. It's like the phone doesn't see the antenna. Thanks for the work so far!
Worked simply and well, except for WiFi. Thanks

It's the 4.4.2 bootloader on the 5.0 system. I will see what can be done.
Let's first make certain that the ROM updated the modem/non-hlos correctly. Someone that flashed the ROM please flash the following using Odin: I545_OC1_Stock_Modem.tar.md5

No, you can't flash custom recovery or kernels on a locked bootloader device.

The Verizon variant of the S4 has a locked bootloader... Since the bootloader is locked, no way to install custom recovery.

While this may work on your device, it will not work for this one. Verizon locks down theirs by locking their bootloaders. The international version (i9505) AFAIK does not have this problem. As stated above, you can not flash kernels on a device with a locked bootloader.
I'm new to the whole android flashing. So sorry for the noob questions.
Noob Question #1
Will this wipe my phone? If I do have to wipe it I don't mind. It's just going to be a pain to get it up and working again.
Noob Question #2
Added a picture of my About Phone. Will my phone work?
Sorry for the noob questions. But I have to start somewhere.

Forgive the likely stupid question, but if I want to flash back to stock for some reason after doing this (I'm on NC5), I can just Odin back, yes?
Thanks for the mention!! wow so quick!! less than 3hrs since I uploaded the update. How do you make updated rom file so quickly? And is there a way to update without doing a full wipe?
Just waiting for deodexed thanks Muniz

doing a wipe will generally fix most bugs encountered by people who take OTAs. all those normals you see being like "oh my phone got an update and its sooooo slow now omg I'm gonna get an iphone"
they're just doing it wrong.

yes. make sure you switched from kingroot to superSU if you used that method. flashfire requires superSU.
muniz, will all new mods have to be created for of1 or can oc1 mods be used?(to enable native tethering and such)

sooo.... likely not the best idea, but is there a way to dirty flash this with FlashFire? it is, after all, still 5.0.1. Not really looking forward to starting over again after just getting OC1 up a few weeks back. Not to mention re-doing xposed

the zip has a script in it that automatically wipes data
would you rather take the time to set up all your stuff or deal with incredibly buggy firmware due to a dirty flash?

this has been stated before. if you flash either deodexed or odexed rom using flashfire, you'll be wiping all your stuff, apps, contacts, txt msgs... etc... it will be as if you went and factory reset the phone. only now you're on OF1
so im still new to this if my phone is not rooted but already updated to 0f1 i cant root now without flashing back to an older version first?

you can't root at all. not until some sort of exploit gets found. I'm pretty sure kingroot was patched with of1

I got an OTA update a bit ago for US99820a (B&H -Verizon-, unlocked and rooted US998 V30)... I haven't attempted an install (in fact I blocked it and deleted the file), but I'd like to update. I waited a month or so just to ensure a solid rooted update was made by the great peeps here....but.....
How do I do it? Lol....
Which update here is correct as I didn't see a US99820a posted here and also... What are the quick instructions to do so? I've not upgraded via teamwin before and would rather not mess anything up, ha.
Thank you for any assistance. ?

Just install via TWRP a stock debloat rom from the rom/kernels forums. You have a couple of options to install and are compatible with the US998.

You can do a backup on TWRP and if you dont like what you've done, simply boot TWRP again and restore your phone. The following link is a stock rom (unrooted). Flash it via TWRP and then flash the latest magisk (link provided in the same thread). Happy flashing!

I do the following:
Download to external sd card. (If you have one)
-Backup to external SD (So I don't loose it.)
-Wipe caches, Data, system, storage (if you backed up to the storage then DON'T WIPE IT. I wipe it because my backup is in the external SD card.
-Flash the rom
-Flash magisk
-Wipe caches
-Reboot.
That's what I was looking for, thank you.
