Hi Guys. Many of us are facing low internal memory problem on Samsung Galaxy J5 (2015 Models). After installing few apps and games the internal memory becomes almost full. Ever wished that if we can move apps data files and games obb files to Sd card. Well now we can do it by simply installing xposed framework and few xposed apps.
In this tutorial I am going to tell you how to move apps data file, obb files etc to sd card. Follow the instruction given below.
Requirements:
1) Rooted J5 phone.
2) TWRP recovery installed
3) Xposed framework installed.
Procedure:
1) If you did not meet above given requirement than go to the link given below and download TWRP, Supersu, Xposed. Flash TWRP via Odin and root using Supersu zip and install Xposed.
2) Now open xposed and go to download and download two xposed apps (i) Obb On Sd (ii) XInternalSD.
3) After installing these two apps go to modules section an activate these modules and reboot your device.
4) Once you device is rebooted open obb on sd app and enable (i) Data on SD and (ii) Detect SD on Android 5/6.
5) Now open XInternalSD app and enable (i) Custom path to internal SD Card (ii) Full access to external SD card. In path to internal SD card there should be /storage/extSdCard/. If it is not than make it. Now you can enable it for all apps or enable it for particular apps using enable for apps option.
6) That’s it now you can move your games obb files to SD card/Android/obb and data files of apps to sd card/Android/data. Your games and apps will read those files from sd card.
7) Enjoy.

Note: Flashing TWRP and Supersu will void your warranty. So think before you flash. After flashing TWRP do a nandroid backup first before flashing anything (even supersu file) so that if anything goes wrong you can restore back.

You have to manually move obb file and data files from internal memory/Android/obb and internal memory/Android/Data to SD card/Android/obb and sd card/Android/data.
So I can select ALL data files and move them;
Ps I :have only 4 or 5 obb files and many too ment data files
I can move them all??

Yes select and move data files and obb files of apps that you want to move from internal memory to sd card in respective folders. Move one app at a time and check if it works than move another and so on.
it seems that i do something wrong!!!!!!!!!!!
from storage-->emulated-->0-->Android --> data--> (this is my internal storage)
i move to storage-->sdcard1-->Android-->data. ( this is my sd card)
But after i start a programe (lets say facebook) it works but when i check again the storage-->emulated-->0-->Android --> data-->
i find the com.facebook.orca .
the same think is NOT happening to the storage-->emulated-->0-->Anroid-->obb-- (thanks God)
i did move data and obb only from this folder storage-->emulated-->0-->Anroid-->
i should move and others?
is this trick working ?? somebody report here. i need to do the same on my j500f

i have decided to reset my device to stock rom, sorry but i couldnt move ahead those steps i mentioned. i tried moving apps from storage app in setting but gave me an error that not enough space on sdcard while my sd card ahd 28gb free -_-

Try to use root explorer to move files. And yes all application might not work but big games and some apps files will work . And why do you want to move apps with small size, they do not consume lot of memory so its better to keep them on internal memory. If you have any apps with larger size than try to move them. Hope it will help. Do let me know if you need more help.
Is it necessary To keep these Tow modules after doing this?
Low internal memory problem of J5 can be solved effectively with Partition. External sd card can be partitioned and a part of the sd card can be converted into internal storage. There are many apps for doing this.

i have tried this using mini partition tool, i formatted my sdcard partion to ext 2 but when i inserted the card to the device it showed as corrupted sdcard. also link2sd didnt work. i tried reformatting the sdcard to ext4 but the same problem. it is most likely because of MM.
if you have a working way to get this done on MM j500f, kindly share with us. i am in desperate need of this, and want to download big games.

Sorry i can't give you a step by step guide because i haven't tried it myself on MM. I have only read about it. But you can try two things - Firstly try the app 'Apps2sd' and secondly if the app does not work then you can try adb command line method which has helped many people. Adb method has a higher chance of success. If these two methods also don't work then i think it's impossible to do it now.

ADB method too doesnt work, i have tried that. sm partiton disk:179,64 private, doesnt do anything . do you have any other command line for it? this trick doesnt work on MM i beleive. :fingers-crossed:

Hi developers, I am having an issue with my device's storage. I have a rooted legend running blayo's B.0.8.4 rom and from what I know, this rom has free 80-90 mb of internal storage of application. But it wasn't enough even though I have an external 16GB SD card as not all apps are movable to my SD thus make it a little disappointing. So my question is that are there any solutions on how should expanding my phone's internal storage? Tks!

You can use A2SD (build in)
-All you have to do is BACKUP your sd-card to your PC (all content will be deleted)
-In ROM manager select partion sd card and the size you use is up to you (512mb is more then enough no?)
-Your phone will reboot in clockworkmod automatically partion your sd card and reboots your phone
-Once its back fully booted download an app called terminal emulator (it's free) open that and type in; a2sd --enable
-Then reboot and its done
And if you see it worked you can transfer your sd content back

Thanks for this quick tutorial. I needed this as well. BTW I assume you meant "...to your computer"?
I'm not sure if it works on all ROMs, but you can move an app to SD forcefully by long-pressing it in Titanium Backup, similar to how CM7 allows any Market or sideloaded app to be moved to the external storage.
I've always done this because I've been incredibly lazy to move my SD back and forth, and finally partition it due to some other technological limits that exist in my household.

Since Froyo (2.2) you can move apps to your sd-card BUT it will only work for apps that support that and it can never completly move the app to your sd card because a little bit of data stays on your internal phone memory
Now if you use the method I explained before (work only on Blayo's latest rom's, for other roms there are other tutorials) It will move ALL the aplications on your phone to the sd-card (even the system apps) so the advantage of that is that there is waayy more space on your phone internal storage and you can install a lot more apps since you are using your sd-card to store the apps
Hope that clarify's a few things for you

Hey tks man! I did it!!! But I have a couple of problems. When I wanted to restore my backup app via titanium backup, it says that I hv to clear some space for my device. And another thing is that I am glad that most of my apps are installed directly to my SD card but not all. Some apps are unable to. It was stored in the phone instead. But all in all, ur solution was good enough for me. I appreciate it. The problems don't really matter.Thank you very much!!

Problems are there to be fixed no? If you go to settings > sd card & phone storage... What sizes does it gives for internal phone storage Total/Available?

So this method will not work with CyanogenMod? Is tutorial for this ROM more complex?
BTW I want to change my ROM to CyanogenMod (i currently have Gingerbread 2.3.3) , so do I first partition my micro SD card and then flash CM or vice versa?

No that method will not work
For CM you will need to
- install the rom and boot the rom until its fully loaded
- download rom manager and partion your sd-card (do not forgot to backup sdcard to pc first!!)
- once you have partitioned your sd-card install this script
- then download "A2SDGUI" and make sure that apps on sd is activated
That's it

Ok now I am having a couple of issues. I recently downloaded a couple of apps and I found out that they were not stored on the SD card anymore unless I move them manually. And certain apps that cannot be moved to SD, for eg. Air penguin, they will be stored on the phone instead. It's like everything is back to original.... may I know what's the problem here? Tks for ur help once again.

i can suggest you redo your rom and apps and try data2ext but follow blay0's strict rule on the restart thingy in his rom thread..
1.1-(to have)
download blay0s custom CWM from

(download the customized CWM)
rename this file to update.zip and place this in the root of your sd card.
1.2-
prepare the Blay0 rom and patch leave it in your pc for now
2-(titanium bk)
use titanium backup and backup all the apps that you want. (backup the green ones which also include call logs and sms and other stuff)
3-(blay0's custom CWM)
boot up to recovery and use the update.zip to load the custom cwm
-do a backup (nandroid backup)... note on the date and time you made this backup.
-than go mounts and storage and mount usb storage...
-copy everything from your phone sd card to your pc...
3.1(repartition)
if 512MB partition is not enough, you can repartition this to 1GB (i tried 2 GB not stable). head to advance menu and partition SD card to. 1024Mb first partition second 0 third 0 and thats it... 1GB ext partition and the rest is your card FAT data. else, just skip step 4 but copy the B rom and patch to your card via usb.
4 (sd card preparation and the B rom in your card)
if you partition, go back to mounts and storage and mount usb partiton and copy all the stuff you backup just now in your pc (your whole sd card) and back to your phone sdcard again... this time copy the B rom also to your card if its not there yet.
5. (wipe and reflash B rom)
now since we have all your backup done we make a clean flash of the B rom.
go do a wipe and also wipe the cache partition and flash the B rom and patch. than reboot
6. (your new B rom)
after phone boot up. re enter your google login and other stuff like date time format... do the setup wizard.
and also let your phone sync with your account. things should look like new..
7. (titanium bk and terminal emulator)
visit market and download titanium bk and terminal emulator (u can skip this if you can use adb shell).
8. (terminal emulator)
now, use your terminal emulator and enter su if its not # (root user).
than type data2ext --enable, reboot the phone.
9. (check your setting)
after the phone reboot, you can go to setting and go see if your internal memory has expanded to your sd card or not... if its still some 100 + MB you are doing it wrong. if its 1GB than you got this rite.
10. (titanium bk)
now after the space have been made for your apps. use titanium bk to restore your data. if its a game with save. use it to restore app and data. if the app does not have any real setting or the data you just dont care. you better just restore the app and ignore the data. restore your apps first, than widgets, launcher will be last if you want to restore it with data.
note: i've been using this setting for a 6 month period without problem but because Blay0 stated that it might one day data lost your phone. so i suggest you reboot to cwm and do backup your rom, mount usb from cwm and update your backup folder in your pc with the cloworkmod folder, your DCIM folder, download, bluetooth... you get the point on what to backup.
nnote on CWM backup.... in the CWM folder in your sdcard... remember this, all CWM backup are name over a time stamp. so delete the ones you dont want.
nnnote try avoid OC to an unstable clock speed... a 1 time or 2 times reboot in a few days will risk your sd partition gone because of data2ext really don't like random reboot and this will make you in a mess. as from my experience... if you reboot your phone and it say sdcard problem... your in deep deep sh*t. as the partition got problem at the fat partition most of the time. if this happen, you need to format your card. use a recovery tool to dig your SD card for pictures and files. format your card.... load CWM to partition it again... put things back and do recovery and restore.

I want to actually overclock the phone as well so basically if I want to overclock with this rom, how do u think I should go about doing this and what should I do to prevent random reboots? Installed Link2SD on tablet.
Formatted external card (in my case a 32GB microsd in an SD adapter) on my laptop using EASEUS to have to PRIMARY partitions 1st in FAT32 and second in EXT3 formats.
At first Link2SD does not recognise any ext partition present and if I try to recreate mounting script on it telling it EXT3 format it says something like could not do, directory does not exist or similar.
Then after a reboot Link2sd warning pops up saying the sd card was not mounted at boot and therefore the system did not load apps on it. You have an option to recreate a mounting script (which I did not need to do as did it already previously) and the quick reboot option (which is different from the regular reboot in the way that it only restarts the android interface not the whole hardware) - so I do this reboot and after everything starts you can see the extra partition and use it.
So currently quick reboot is needed after every total shutdown of the tablet - thankfully I almost never shut down the tablet completely unless run out of battery completely or some other rare reason or testing like this one.
Also note that quick reboot sometimes gives a close/wait warning just after it is done - I always chose wait and everything seemed ok after that.
Make sure you give Link2sd superuser permission. I decided to leave out Lib out of the app data I link because I noticed that if I move data back to internal storage link2SD shows that libs are unlinked already/ I know there is an option in link2sd to relink libs at boot but I was not able to confirm if it works and they tend to take little space internally anyway.
Regarding extra partition size I tried less than 1GB and ca 14Gb. With bigger than 1GB partition it seems to recognise its size in link2sd but once you move more than 1gb data to it does not reflect the increase above 1gb but still seems to make the apps I moved before and after that work still.
I wonder if multi mount widget could help when combined with link2SD somehow. My guess best solution would be to make android mount external card early in its boot.

I have not tried EXT2/4 and FAT/32 formats for the second partition - maybe someone could report on that and regarding >1GB data on it. I tried having 3 partitions at the same time FAT32, EXT2 and EXT3 but link2SD did not see any extra partition then.
When experimenting before changing partitions I unlinked apps first in order to not lose the apps and having to reinstall them.

Linksd will link your apps to the SD card, but will occupy some of internal memory space a few kb's ..

what about cache for games? for example GTA3 needs approximately gigabyte of memory cache.

oh no. they are not.
i read more forum and info and understood how to do this. you need to use apllication like LINK2SD, it also make games think that they are use usb memory. but in reality they are using SD memory. this program named GSCRIPT.

guys guys, i think we need to work on one thread. We seem to be having two threads that are covering the same problem. two thread one problems aint gonna work.
Would it not be better to gather all information that is relevant to the problem and work together to achieve our aims.
I for one would love this to be sorted but having tried the link2sd and mounting a script within the mnt/sd I believe we need to re group and work this.

I use link2sd in my Htc, because it have only 100mb of internal storage.
With a microsd 16gb and link2sd i'm able to install every app i want, a currently i have 80 installed in my Htc With only 100mb of internal memory

I understand what you are saying but the htc and sony are two different beasts. The htc can use the external sd as storage but at present the sony can only use the sd for transfering data and it will not allow game data to be transfered.
THis is not the solution. Do you actually have a sony? If so you will know this being the case.
i installed Link2sd on Sony Tablet S, and it works very good. all programs now on external SD card. also i installed GScript and now all cache for games located on external SD. Also i made that OEM music player and Gallery open all files from SD card without any problem.
and else when i connect Sony Tablet with computer i can also see and use SD cards memory that inserted in tablet.
Are you saying that game data from lets say gameloft goto external sd card?
I have just re tried to install gta and I can confirm the data still goes to internal storage. What gscript did you use?

I have karbonn A15 android ICS(4.0.4) smartphone, its not rooted.
I want to move the app Data to my external sd card, i tried to move the data folder from the internal SD (android/data) to External SD (root folder), just to check whether it releases any memory in the storage section in phone settings. but the internal storage was same, there was no change, can anyone tell me where does the app data resides in the internal memory, its fine if i can move app data manually to the external sd card.
I also want some clarification on below questions:
1. Also i want to know whether there is any risk rooting phone like (Bricking Phone), as i have bricked my previous Galaxy Ace when i rooted and used ROM manager.
2. Also i have heard about Folder Binding app which automatically transfers App Data to External Sd Card, is there any risk of bricking phone.
3. Whats the easiest method to root Karbonn A15 phone, i am not that tech savvy, so easiest method would be grateful in rooting device.

Rooting:
here are the steps
the driver files are included on the phone internal card called pcdrivers.zip. you can connect the usb mount the internal usb storage and copy the file to your pc. if you face any problems you can download the file from here
1. Enable USB Debugging -> Under SETTINGS -> DEVELOPER OPTIONS
2. Install the drivers for the phone.
3. download "Android Root Unlock" from sourceforge.net and extract it to your Disktop
4. navigate to the above folder and run the batch file ICS_Root_Unlocker.bat
the batch file will reboot your phone a couple of times and will wait with a message "Press Any Key to continue"
IMPORTANT NOTE : if you PC is saying "PRESS ANY KEY" note if your phone is on or rebooting....
if it is Rebooting, wait for it to start before pressing a key
5. After a couple of boots the phone will be rooted
6. verify that the Root is complete by observing a "Superuser" shortcut in the application list
Moving Apps:
Once rooted, download Folder Mount From the Play Store
- Once installed, open FolderMount and grant superuser access when asked.
- In FolderMount, you have the options to:
- Name your folder (IE: "Generic Game 1")
- Select the "Source" Folder (the one on your local storage)
- Select the "Destination" Folder (the one on your SD Card)
When you enter these details, it will then move them to your SD Card!
I highly recomend FolderMount Pro, because it also shows you filesizes when browsing.
Common Locations of Large Files:
Two common locations for games (IE: Gameloft games, EA Games, etc.)
Android/data
Android/obb
I know it's not the easiest process ever, but hopefully I've explained it enough to get people started.

Is there any method/app that can provide a similar functionality without rooting the phone? I tried rooting my Karbonn A21 without success and do not really want to brick it?
Also is there any way of backing up the phone and app data before rooting? Will the existing apps and data be wiped out by rooting?

You can use App2SD but you have to check if your device is compatible or not.
you can use Kies to backup your apps, settings, etc.

so quick question, i transferred games to external sd, worked fine and all, but after a while my games asked me to download the files again, anyone know a solution?
I m using foldermount but there is write error mention that was unable to write into the external sdcard caused by a permission issue where normal apps are not able to write anything into storage/ext_sd. What should I do next to solve this problem? Attempt to recover using the apps not solving it.

Can I move the game folders from Internal Storage: Android/data -> SD card: Android/data, will it work on non rooted phone? In the Data folder on the SD card are partition of some apps and they work just fine. Same with folder "obb".

I recommend using an app called folder mount. ..it needs root but it's as easy as fishing in a barrel. .. I am using It and it works fine... and now you have a clear space in your internal storage.

I'm rooted and running stock Kitkat. Is there some way that I can remove the Kitkat SD card restrictions? The apps available on Google Play don't work on the One Max.

Can you explain full sdcard access? I'm in 4.4.2 and only two instance I can't use my ext sdcard. Dolphin or stock browser download and when flashing zip from TWRP. I can backup & restore from the ext sdcard with TWRP.

I'm referring to the access restrictions on the SD card that have been introduced in Kitkat. For instance, when using Quickpic, photos that are saved to the SD card can't be moved from one folder to another. That's just one example.
Your suggestion to use the Xposed module worked. I initally thought that it hadn't worked but silly me had forgotten to enable the module.

I tried to format the sd card as an internal storage, though I'm willing to sacrifice this sd card as permanently internal storage. 32gb is kinda not enough since I'm intended to use onedrive as offline usage (onedrive only save in internal storage in android).
I tried the ADB style, it is not working either. Do you guys have other method or proven ways to format sd card as internal., for this tab s3 especially.

For some inexplicable reason, Samsung disables "Adoptable Storage" on their devices; a system file (sm.jar, i believe) must be patched to enable it. This thread may help, but I would proceed extreme caution as it appears this patch is specific to Marshmallow:

went to the link, it was made for Tab A with marshmallow, so far, I couldn't a way to do it for tab s3 with nougat.

It isn't made for the Tab A, it's universal as stated in the thread.
It may still work with nougat, I've had a couple of reports of success.

This most definitely does work with this device. I literally just installed it and it is working on a 64GB Sandisk Extreme Plux. It did boot loop once but afterwards recovered stock ROM due to encryption issues, tried another method (because the patch modifies the system and therefore triggers Samsung to say NOPE).
Do these Steps:
0) Download the patch off this thread.
1) Download ODIN from here.
2) Download TWRP from the TWRP Guide.
~~~Refer to the TWRP Guide. Again. Note you do NOT need root. Read the following but ignore the "root" parts.
To disable forced encryption, mount internal storage(DATA) and disable dm-verity:
(Note this MUST be flashed after SuperSU if you intend to root)
1. Boot to Twrp
2. Format Data partition using FORMAT DATA button under Wipe options.
(Note: This will wipe the internal storage)
3. Check DATA is mountable.
4. Install SuperSU (if root is required)
5. Install boot image patch below.
6. Reboot

Originally I was going make a video of this to show, so folks here know how to do it, but forgot
I don't think I can bear spending another hour flashing stock to root again though (the first time I bricked it accidentally). But perhaps I will eventually, there at least two people here with this mod working so surely it can't just 3 of us with working shared storage. As always, you do this at your own risk.
Edit to add: Latest update is 09/28/17 and I'm using a firmware that's already 3 months behind.
2) I don't know if this is compatible with *your* model and I don't know anything about the variations of ROMS thereof, I'm just explaining how I did it, don't shoot the messenger.
Is there any easy option here then that won't brick my device? I've just purchased an S3 and I'm annoyied you can't use the SD card for internal storage. 32gb isn't a vast amount of space nowdays, why would Samsung turn off this option??

Wow, this is news to me and SO DUMB of Samsung to do this! What the hell would be the reason for this? If they're going to remove this feature, then this tablet should've came with at least 64gb. 32gb is weak for a $600 tablet!
No need for that. Don't download Lotta apps. Play one or two games at a time finish them. Use your phone for other stuff. I use tab mostly for HDR video Netflix Amazon and download on SD card 64 GB so no issues. 32 is actually good will save a ton of battery tab easily lasts 2 days with binge watching on speakers and 67 percentage or full brightness last about one and a half day

It is simple. Just flash the ZIP file which I attached here in Recovery and then you will be able to format SD card as Internal Storage.
*** If it is not working, you must need to FORMAT DATA to delete the encryption, so before of that - make a backup of all your files ***
I tested it on Android 13 and it is working perfectly.
Then you can use for example an app: APP2SD (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=in.co.pricealert.apps2sd) from Google Play to move apps to adopted storage (SD CARD)
