I'm just going to leave this here. The title is pretty much self explanatory. This thread is for all of you from the great white North who could not, would not settle for the locked down Snapdragon 820 W8 variant.
Have fun!

I have a question on this exynos vs sd difference as I couldn't get clear information yet.
How does the camera and sound performance compare between the two? I own the sd w8 variant of course, but the camera (sony sensor I believe) is incredibly fast, iq is even better than my previous z5. Also, wired sound is, for most of my playlist, very large and much better than Sony even.
It's just that for root sake id switch too to exynos provided that camera is at least on par between them.

I don't think there is any difference between the cameras. The main differences are with battery life and root access as far as I know.

On the S6 and S7 variants samsung used both a Sony and a house sensor but it was random within both Exynos and SD variants, not specific to 1 or the other.

Nope i am under the impression they are the same.
I have both and wow the Exynos version runs so much cooler with superior battery life... Hoping to get back my LTE symbol though through CSC changes
You're going to need root for that. You'll have 3 choices. There's an app, a build.prop edit or xposed.

I just pulled the trigger and purchased one of these. Is there a way to enable Rogers Wifi calling on the international models?
can someone with the international version put a wind sim in thier phone and test to see if its working. or put in
*#2263# in the dailer and go to band STACK 1 or 2. check if 1700 and 2100 has a star beside it

Nope. VoLTE only works on devices with a Rogers IMEI. You couldn't even get it to work on an unlocked bell or Telus w8 with the Rogers CSC. I know naysayers are going to try and say otherwise but I learner it the hard way.
Edit : I could swear I saw VoLTE. My guess would be it applies to Wifi calling as well. Worth a try I guess.

google does not believe in external storage for its devices. It will create lots of problems. 16GB out to be enough for everything . THen there is USB OTG for others.
Another question i have is that Nexus 4 seems to use micro sim. So if i import one from US, will i able to use it here. I have seen ways to make your own micro sim.
Frankly speaking I am more excited with Nexus 10 launch that Nexus 4. Nexus 7 3G is also great news. Google is hell bent on landsliding every competitor
I'm in sync with 'all the above' - considering Nexus 7 to shootout with my wife's pending iThing-Mini - looking at Nexus 4, but would consider Nex 3 or other LG. I'm one of those that have gained a healthy respect for the anvil-like P500/509 [in my case].... Was/is an under-rated device that delivers way more bang-per-buck than critics credit. THat plus the little-recognized fact of pretty good Tech Support from LG people... I give them a 8/10 in my experience. even as old as the device is, their 'chat' people are great if you just have a bit of working knowledge to give them direction.
yay LG.
I guess I'm leaning toward Nex 4 because, if it is not overly buggy at introduction, I think it will just nuke the surrounding competition. the others will quickly move to Ebay...
Are you guys sure there is a Nexus 3? I think it is a Nexus 4, not a Nexus 3

The issue is we're on an cortex A9 where-as the DNA is on an A15. It's just better tech.
But to be honest the performance right now is beyond what we need.
When Android officially has a class in the NHRA then ill worry about all out performance.
Stupid quadrant scores. I had both the DNA and note 2...they r both quick. End of story.

It's actually not an A15, its Krait cpu is kind of in-between A9 and A15. The Exynos 5 quad will be faster, besides possibly the graphics. I'm sure Qualcomm will have something else coming out next year though.
On a side note I tested out Banjo-Kazooie and it does have stutters (nothing affecting gameplay). So I guess I would have actually made use of the S4pro...

The dna maybe faster BUT I'm good with my note 2 that memory and battery is a definite no go.

I agree they both have positives and negatives. I just activated note and going to sit DNA aside for now. See what the real world uses of the note are since I've used DNA for a week.
And fyi DNA has overclocked kernel and runs 9500+ lol insane and some of the features it comes with are pretty sweet two. I know it's going to be one hard decision between the two to use daily. Heck I might just switch everyday they are both that nice lol

There isn't one in the DNA. You'd have to buy the separate board that attaches to the main and the back of the Butterfly to theoretically add the sdcard.
I personally chose the Note 2 over screen size. You either want a phone this size or you don't.

Hello all
I am planning to sell my N7000 and get Mega 5.8 Dual Sim. No problem with mu Note but would like to have the option of Dual Sim hence planning this.
What are the views of users of 5.8 Mega? Is it good and how is the performance compared to Note? I know the screen is a drawback with the LCD as compared to sAmoled to Note but is the difference really enough to put you off?
Any inputs regarding this will be really appreciated and I need to decide in the next 24 hour or so.
Read this forum but all the topics are generally considering the 6.3 and not 5.8 and hence I decided to make this topic.
Thanks in advance

Note 2 dual sim is too expensive.
I am thinking of buying Mega 5.8 because of a dual sim functionalitybut what stops me now is:
- no root
- no custom roms and developers interest in this device
- I still need more proves that call recording works
It all may be caused by actually the lack of this device in Europe. On UK's ebay all the devices on sale come from Hong kong or China......
Lets see if it changes next month.
6.3 - it is too big, I like big phones (I own Note 1 and 2 and will never go for something below 5.5) but 6.3 is a bit too much for me

It's the same reaction to the original Note e.g. it is too big, I will never go over 4.7, etc.
I had the original note and the actual everyday difference in body size isn't huge.
You're getting 26% more screen area for less actual volume of the phone because it's thinner.
Height and width wise it's just as pocketable as the Note with more screen.
Personally, I will only say it's too big if it doesn't fit my pockets any more.

i don't really think 6.3 is too big. Even nexus 7 seems a little bit small to me, even though i own note 2.
you can use another regular phone for a dual sim need.

I really hope the rumours are off base and sammy offers a non edge version though as that will likely kill it for me, not even remotely an edge fan.

I really hope the rumours are off base and sammy offers a non edge version though as that will likely kill it for me, not even remotely an edge fan.

3600mah battery will be too small. It needs to be at least 4000mah so that people can justify switching from S7 or S7 Edge. Over time, the Note 7 will become slow just like all other Samsung devices though.

6GB of ram is what caught my eye..Note 5 still running strong for me as of now. Any release dates ?

Not the Canadian or International exynos versions..at least not on the S7 the bootloader is not locked. Only snapgradon versions.
Lets see what they do on the note.
i just know ill never buy a device that's got a locked BL which cannot be easily unlocked.

Hard to say, since the S7s are one would think that the notes would follow suit. But who knows, we cannot be sure until people have the device in hand.
Its not a huge problem really just buy a CAN or International version to avoid the locked down models.
people with those versions on the S7 seem not to be having issues running them in the US.

Can't wait until they announce this monster phone! Yay Samsung ? ?
Hi there,
I have done lots of research and have come to the conclusion that my phone is a hybrid of both the note 4 and the note 4x. The box the phone came in clearly states that I have a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4x with 4gb Ram and 64gb Rom. In the MIUI (Global Rom) About Phone details it says that it is a Redmi Note 4! No 4x.
The confusing thing is that I am led to believe the 4x has a Snapdragon processor , but I have the MTK Helios X20!
Have I been cheated? The box was sealed when it arrived so tampering looks unlikely.
I really want to clear this up before I start to get into the flashing of Roms and customisation. Mind you the custom Roms for the MTK chipset are few and far between compared to the Snapdragon Roms.
Any Ideas Guys?

Edit:
The case for the phone is the same as the Note 4x, with the IR port moved to the side on the top of the phone and also the screws at the bottom, that should be either side of the USB charge port, are gone.
Yes, it is confusing. ?
Redmi Note 4X is chinese Version. Non chinese are called Note 4.
Important is the Name: nikel or mido. MTK is nikel iirc.

I take it you've just received it? It seems you have the Note 4 pro prime MTK version, which has just been released. Confusingly there is a Note 4 pro Snapdragon version also. Where did you order from?

Yep, look at the Note 3 as well. There was an MTK version originally, then a Snapdragon version as there were pro/prime variants.

The redmi note 4x Pro in china is the MTK SoC version.

I think that Xiaomi are blurring the lines a little here, although this is not anything new to the brand.
I could previously assume '4X' denotes a Snapdragon SOC but the OP/buyer should always confirm required & detailed specs upon purchase...we all know about assumptions.

ok, I'll tell you the history of RedmiNote4 .
RedmiNote4(nikel) first appeared in August 2016, which was powered by Mediatek HelioX20.
This model was officially sold in many asian countries, except India.
It is because of the raw ; we must not sell mtk-powered device in india.
And 6 months later, Xiaomi released RedmiNote4X(mido) which is powered by Qualcomm snapdragon625.
And Xiaomi decided to sell this model in India too, because this time, the device was powered by qualcomm.
But a problem happened. Xiaomi said to themselves "It will be strange for indian people to call this device 'RedmiNote4X' because there was no 'RedmiNote4' in India"
And they finally decided to call this device RedmiNote4 in India.
So, the model "mido" is called RedmiNote4 in India and RedmiNote4X in other countries.
Given the answer of gsmyth , I searched about "Redmi Note 4 pro prime" but it seems just some resellers and youtube-reviewers called so and it's not an official name at all.
I also glanced at the link where you buy.
I'm sure this seller is also confusing, there is no mtk-powered device called RedmiNote4X as you already know. And I don't think this seller wanted to cheat because RedmiNote4(nikel) has almost the same value and price as RedmiNote4X(mido) although its nature is different.
nikel has a much more powerful CPU, but mido is better on power consumption. If the device you have now(nikel) is not what you wanted, you can tell aliexpress and ask them to refund.
But in my sence of taste, nikel is better
glad if it helps you.

Because each variant of the device is sold by resellers and available globally. However Xiaomi calls certain variants by particular names depending on the region it is officially selling in e.g. mido which is just called the Note 4 in India, it is a Snapdragon powered version. But it's called the Note 4X outside of India and as per the explanation above Xiaomi didn't call it the 4X in India as India didn't have another note 4 variant to confuse it with. Confusingly there are Note 4 models (4GB/64GB) that are being marketed by resellers as the Note 4X pro and there is a both a Snapdragon and mediatek version.

I live in Europe. My RN4 has SD and the box has a sticker stating : "Global Version". This Version has LTE Band 20.
I own another RN4 SD ordered at another reseller. It has the same sticker on the box so I assume it isn't put there by the reseller but by Xiaomi.
At gearbest, honorbuy, ... they also sell an 'International Version' which has same specs but lacks LTE Band 20.

I wonder if there is any difference in the frequency band's between your model and the 3GB/64GB model. Xiaomi is certainly a bit crazy went it comes to different variants, as this is identical to the existing note 4 (MTK) except for the extra gig of ram.

So can I shoot another question? Where do I go now for all my custom Rom / Customisation goodness?
I have unlocked my bootloader and am about to install TWRP (cofface) and then root the device. I have noticed that since updating the MIUI Global rom (VIA OTA) to 8.1.6.0 that I have a massive battery leak somewhere. It feels like it's because of the Wifi being left on but I don't think its that. There is a fix I have noticed for the standard note 4 mtk that requires flashing 2 zips and that should help deep sleep problems.
I think that I should have preferred a snapdragon version as there are more Custom Roms , but due to hassle, I will keep the phone anyway. I just want the battery drain fixed!
Let me thank all that have helped with my initial dilemma and thank anyone who will help me in the future.
