Oh I see your phone is not rooted and using the stock screen calibrator huh?
If your phone is rooted there is an excellent mod which you can flash and use it's called KCAL color control
Just try it you will be astonished.

Play tells me "This app is incompatible with all of your devices." ;-(
I have an sk17i
Interesting app, though it seems than my Defy doesn't report any value under 2 lux... thus not allowing "sub-zero" backlight levels...

try camera. you can change it in setting under 'sample collection'. mine always showed -1lx when using light sensor.
tips: link only 2 samples. 1st: 0 luma, 1% brightness. 2nd: 99999 luma, brightness 100 %. set this under 'modify linked samples' then choose luma tab. too many linked samples is not recommended.

Thanks.
With camera it isn't better, but anyway i set sub-zero value manually (when reading in my bed for example) and finally this app is very useful.
I have only 4 samples :
0 lux -71% (don't think this one is useful)
2 lux 1%
4 lux 11%
21 lux 21%
and everything works fine for my tastes.
Previously I switched between auto brightness (outside home), dim (at home, where i found auto settings and even the lowest value too bright), and screen filter for reading in bed.
Now all is automatic except ... "bed".

I've been using this app for a few weeks now, I love the concept. So far it's been great indoors, but yesterday I was trying to look at phone outside in the sunlight and for some reason this app would not let the display stay at 100%, it just kept going back down to 80%. Any ideas? am I missing something?
now I'm running on CM 7 and it doesn't seem working anymore. it's good at brighter surrounding but not at darker. it doesn't seem to lower brightness automagically anymore. any idea, guys?

try playing around with linked samples. if you feel that the brightness is too low or high just set brighness manually at dashboard and then long-press the chain picture to link it.

For those of you who use this app, I have question.
I noticed that my screen is very bright even at 25%. How is the battery life compared to the normal brightness?

The battery life is just normal, or sometimes better as it disables auto brightness and gives a fixed amount of brightness.

2. Download the HDPI theme and install it DON'T APPLY IT.
3. Open the app and change the density from 160 to 140 and click "Save & Reboot"
It'll ask for root and click allow.
4. After reboot, go to your theme chooser and apply the HDPI theme.

I was thinking...since the display is the biggest power hog, is it possible to set brightness even lower the defautl lowest one?
When using phone at night sometimes I feel its still too bright even on lowest level...

looks like that app you mentioned is just creating dark effect by applying overlay filter...without actually reducing the screen brightness XD

brightness level of the screen?
If so, it can but it isnt safe. And i dont recomend trying as it will burn out your backlight.
Ok,so it means z3 has advanced backlight hardware & not only software...

No, Z3 backlight is just brighter
Z2 can be edited, there is a file in /system/ect i cant remember what its name is, is probably the qcom configs
It's easy to port that feature from the Z3.
Just add those lines to build.prop:
Code:
ro.qcom.ad=1
ro.qcom.ad.calib.data=/system/etc/ad_calib.cfg
And copy the attached file (unzip first!) into /system/etc/ad_calib.cfg (remember to set permissions!)
Have fun!
Or use rootdim app!!!

Is it safe for short duration, cause if Envious is right about hardware changes then it will fry the light.Although im satisfied with this level of brightness, why it hasn't been ported yet?
I hope it has worked. The permission ive set is rw-r-r & can i put the lines anywhere in build.prop or its should be under qualcomm lines

I was using it since the Z3 ROM dump came out and I didn't notice any side-effects. I don't really know if the device backlight has changed hardware-wise, but seems it hasn't.
If I remember correctly the new Existenz has this build-in by default.
I think that you need a Qualcomm snapdragon 800 series processor but I don't know if you need a hardware display compatible like IPS:
