I was thinking...since the display is the biggest power hog, is it possible to set brightness even lower the defautl lowest one?
When using phone at night sometimes I feel its still too bright even on lowest level...

looks like that app you mentioned is just creating dark effect by applying overlay filter...without actually reducing the screen brightness XD

this app enables your xperia autobrightness using camera or light sensor. best app in a while. works great with front camera of my XMP running X-ROM ICS RC8.
available in Play Store for free n paid.

Play tells me "This app is incompatible with all of your devices." ;-(

Interesting app, though it seems than my Defy doesn't report any value under 2 lux... thus not allowing "sub-zero" backlight levels...

try camera. you can change it in setting under 'sample collection'. mine always showed -1lx when using light sensor.
tips: link only 2 samples. 1st: 0 luma, 1% brightness. 2nd: 99999 luma, brightness 100 %. set this under 'modify linked samples' then choose luma tab. too many linked samples is not recommended.

Thanks.
With camera it isn't better, but anyway i set sub-zero value manually (when reading in my bed for example) and finally this app is very useful.
I have only 4 samples :
0 lux -71% (don't think this one is useful)
2 lux 1%
4 lux 11%
21 lux 21%
and everything works fine for my tastes.
Previously I switched between auto brightness (outside home), dim (at home, where i found auto settings and even the lowest value too bright), and screen filter for reading in bed.
Now all is automatic except ... "bed".

I've been using this app for a few weeks now, I love the concept. So far it's been great indoors, but yesterday I was trying to look at phone outside in the sunlight and for some reason this app would not let the display stay at 100%, it just kept going back down to 80%. Any ideas? am I missing something?
now I'm running on CM 7 and it doesn't seem working anymore. it's good at brighter surrounding but not at darker. it doesn't seem to lower brightness automagically anymore. any idea, guys?

try playing around with linked samples. if you feel that the brightness is too low or high just set brighness manually at dashboard and then long-press the chain picture to link it.

For those of you who use this app, I have question.
I noticed that my screen is very bright even at 25%. How is the battery life compared to the normal brightness?

The battery life is just normal, or sometimes better as it disables auto brightness and gives a fixed amount of brightness.

They aren't overly great, would be better to customise it but it's fine for now. You can tell there is more potential after trying the different modes though. I agree with most saying something between standard and natural likely would be better...

I can tell you:
Natural and movie are way too washed out, allmost sepia like......dynamic is way too oversaturated/oversharpened, standard is still oversaturated but looks best to me, but there isnt perfect mode for now

100% agree.
Standard is the best even though it still slightly saturate.
Natural is not natural, it is too dull.
Movie - what the point of this mod, better us black and white phone.
Dynamic like S II time color, way way too saturate.

What video player are you using? Are you using the stock player? If so the stock player has its own brightness control. While a video is playing press menu then select settings, there is a video brightness setting.

Hi guys, I've got a mini pro and I noticed that in all roms there isn't "Auto Brightness" option in setting or it is disabled.
My question is, why the developers don't enable it?
There is the sensor and it works a bit with Ultra Brightness MOD.

I've noticed that this option is missing in stock roms. In CM10(extended) and Cm10.1 its working nicely without any problem. And some roms like NICS do have this feature of auto brightness working.

I've never tried cm10 ex and 10.1 bcz of some bugs but i'm sure that in normal cm10 there isn't the checkbox.
NICS has the option in settings but if I thick it the screen remains at the same level, as well as in other stock-based roms.

Whenever I use the auto brightness feature, I have to check the option 2 times before it started working. Its like you click on brightness once and set your preffered setting once and then again click brightness and set your settings.
