LG G5 - RS988 stopped booting after running hot - LG G5 Questions & Answers

The phone was running fine until I was updating all my apps via Play Store. The phone eventually got hot and rebooted. I resumed my Play Store app updates and the phone rebooted again. I assumed the phone was overheating with the app updates causing the phone to run hot. After maybe 2 more reboot, the phone became unresponsive and eventually shut down. I pulled the battery and let the phone cool off before trying to start up again, but this time it would not boot up. No buttons will work - cannot get into recovery mode (volume down + power), holding power button for over 30 secs did nothing. Is it safe to assume this phone is done for?

Freezing and Force closes

I'd just commented on how I love this phone because of how fast and smooth it is. An hour or so later, I pull my phone out to take a picture and it locks up completely, the Camera FC after about 5 minutes but then it lagged like made and literally made the phone unusable.
Holding power button did nothing, button wouldn't react but if they did it took a few minutes to register the press but then did nothing anyway.
Obviously, with not being able to remove the battery, this made things difficult to reset the phone. In the end I found that holding Up on the volume button and the power button did a reset.
The phone rebooted and seemed ok but then a few seconds later it did the same thing. Even on Home screen, scrolling along froze the phone then Xperia Activity FC'd. Some of my picutres appeared corrupt so I deleted them assuming it was those causing the issue, but I'm still getting the same problem.
Last night I restarted the phone and put it on charge and it seems fine this morning.
Out of desperation, I downloaded AVG to scan the phone. I also downloaded ATK and killed anything that didn't have a use to see if that helped the phone but it did it after that too.
Anyone else had this? It started to P me off last night. The phone nearly went out the window!
It's on T-Mobile (UK) and currently using their stock ROM.
Try a factory reset.
Factory Reset will be my last resort. I hate having phones/tablets set up how I like them only to have to do it all over again!
Anyway, since I rebooted it and charged it up, it's been fine. Will have to see how it goes.

[Q] My phone keeps freezing and shuts down usually when using google services

Hi everyone. I was having my s3 I9300 (stock rom; never rooted before) for like 2 years & with no flaw. Two weeks ago, I noticed that after it gets really battery low, the screen starts flickering weird horizontal lines, but it never freezes and shuts off.
However, 2 days ago, I was downloading something using the stock browser (blue earth icon), soon after, i turned the wifi off only to find out that my downloading was still going (downloading some album from tusfile.com) then in a blink of an eye, the moment I immediately turned it back on, the screens starts showing "flickering movement (just horizontal lines)" then immediately freezed. I was waiting for like 50 minutes, then decided to remove the battery.
After putting it back, then turned it on, "flickering" then freezes, then shuts itself off (i repeated the cycle twice or thrice, but it keeps doing the same sh*t) . After 10 minutes without putting the battery, i put it back in, turned it on. But this time, as soon as it got turned on, i immediately locked the screen by pressing the power button once (i just turned the screen off just to make the screen black)
After 10 minutes, i decided to use it again & everything was fine. The moment i tried the app "screen filter" just to darken the screen up, then the whole sh*t started again. I will never use that app again.
After 10 minutes of removing the battery, switched to recovery mode (in that mode, That green android was seemed lying down, it says "no command", & with a big red exclamation mark, he seemed dead) then I wiped the "cache partition", then factory reseted it, turned it on & everything was okay.
Since my phone was factory reseted, I download some app (Google Keep) and that app wanted me to update "Google Play Service". I was updating it fine, after it reached 87%, the whole sh*t started again but this time, I TOTALLY CANT TURN THE SYSTEM ON AGAIN!, unless i clear the "cache partition", then turned it on again. I repeated the cycle again, then decided to stop rely on Google Play again.
Then whole same thing happened when i was using G mail. Then Google Play. Then Play Service.
Shall I root my phone? Flash it to "CM12.1?
Thank you very much.

Phone stuck on bootloop or isn't responding shortly after boot and crashes

The phone fell off a treadmill and went haywire.
If I don't do anything it's stuck in bootloop, powers up, showes the loading screen moving lines for ages and eventually restarts.
If I start tapping the phone (unplugged) eventually it boots up, and it like normal, but if I do anything too quickly it will give me an error "process system isn't responding" with options to exit or wait, regardless it will crash. If at any point the screen goes to sleep it will crash, so I have to keep interacting. This one time I managed to get to the point where I plugged in into my pc, unlock the phone, select data transfer and started phone repair using Xperia PC software but it crashed before software finished the download and then gave me an error. Sometimes when I plug it in at that stage it will crash. Then back to the loop unless I tap the screen (only works sometimes, but I haven't seen it boot without me doing it, could be a consistent coincidence tho).
If I hold volume up + power button when the phone is off, nothing happens. If I do it while it's booting it will vibrate 3 times, restart, and then turn off (the only way to exit bootloop basically) but doesn't lead me to a recovery screen or anything I can interact with. Phone is not flashed or anything. When it restarts it will blink the red light a few times. Is there any chance to recover data or even just the phone?
Thanks!

Boot loop problem

Hello my friends!
I have a problem with my pocophone! I have some experience with phones but I have never encountered such an issue before.
I have never intervened with the software (no root access, custom roms and stuff). My phone runs stock miui, I think the most recent update was miui 12 or something.
A couple of days ago my phone was sitting around minding its own business and then it shut off and started again. The "POCO" logo is displayed for 5-10 seconds and then the phone reboots and never stops doing it until it runs out of power.
If I connect the charger it starts doing the same thing. It turns on by itself and keeps doing the boot loop.
There is NO WAY to turn it off. As long as there is power it keeps restarting.
Yes, I have tried pushing the power button for 10, 20, 30 seconds but NOTHING happens.
If I connect it to my computer again nothing happens, it is the same as connecting it to a charger.
If I keep pressed the vol up button, the secret menu appears (wipe data and stuff). I can navigate with vol up and vol down but nothing happens when I try to select something using the power button. Then after a few seconds the phone restarts again.
If I keep pressed the vol down button, I see the "fastboot" screen, but again the phone restarts after a few seconds.
Please help me. Any ideas? Could it be that my power button is stuck? But then why does the phone turn on again?
Doesn't look like any software issue, visit service center.

Question phone screen is off and won't restart

my xperia iii just started acting up. I tried to log in to siriusxm and the screen timed out because I was away for a bit. I tried to turn the screen back on when it got stuck in accessibility mode with the screen off and constantly fired the Google assistant. pushing and holding power does nothing except fire off the assistant three more times. if I can't get it to come back to me I can do a factory reset since I just received this phone yesterday and haven't done much with it. anything I can do here?
This isn't normal behavior. If you can return it.
Assuming you didn't install something stupid it's likely a firmware or hardware issue.
+ 1
Was this a new device? Rooted?
Are you sure that you long pressed the power button and not the Google Assistant button by mistake?

Try pushing and holding power + vol up until it vibrates it'll force restart the device.
1. bought via swappa, listed as mint.
2. unrooted
3. it was the power button. it's below the volume rocker, first button on the side. the assistant is the second (and smaller) button on the side.
4. eventually the phone unfucked itself. I did nothing but wait. this actually happened a second time later on except this time the screen displayed my wallpaper at least. I rebooted as soon as I had control and so far so good. I will try power + vol up next time. btw I'm guessing it may have been a software issue. I was moving from a note 8 that had a bixby specific app that got transferred and activated. however a similar thing happened to me with a galaxy tab 4 (without any kind of software mod) so I don't know. I had to wait for that device to unfuck itself too.

Try Safe Mode. It will temporarily disable a lot of user-space configurations that can cause boot loops. It's good for broken launchers, bad widgets, impossible settings, etc.
Take the microSD card out too. Google worked hard to disable expandable storage starting with Android 11. There's the floppy-disk-slow, absolutely useless SAF and nothing else. Performance workarounds from other phones, even if they're as simple as legacy mount options, will cause bootloops.
