Xperia Z2 Red LED - Not Charging - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everybody. I have recently (partially) unbricked my Xperia Z2. It got hard bricked when I flashed the wrong kernel, then I unbricked it again using Flashtool, but it won't actually power on. It did get fixed, but everytime I plug it in now, only a Red LED shows, along with a flashing 'SONY' boot up screen, with it repeating the whole entire time.
As I remove the battery connector, with the plug still in the phone, looking at the display, it actually 'charges' (with charging logo) the phone, but without the battery connector connected! Now it obviously stays red the entire time, and everytime I reconnect the battery, it once again shows the failing 'SONY' boot up logo over, over, and over again.. [emoji19]
I need help on fixing this, PLEASE. I can't go on with this phone not working! I just need some answers!! Thanks alot!!

I recommend using flashtool to flash the original FTF for your phone and then try again, if the problem persists I guess your previous kernel broke the battery or the phone voltage usage of the battery which caused problems then its a hardware issue but since you already opened the phone im guessing your warranty is voided so ... bad news buddy, youre gonna have to pay for replace parts but you gotta know which parts first or just send it to a pro which will cost even more money... but first try flashing original FTF of your phone with flashtool
I had an issue like this before , but not kernel brick or any thing , i just used the magnetic charger and put plus on minus (reversed the plugs) which caused my battery not to charge for some reason but my warranty was still active so they replaced my battery and motherboard.
let me ask , if you remove the battery while your phone is in charging , does it get into the OS? or whats the deal here?

Thanks for the answers. When I remove the battery while the phone is still plugged into the charger, it shows the charging logo on screen along with a red LED. I have no clue why it does that, but it seems a bit scary..

as I said , try to flash original FTF with flashtool and wipe appslog and userdata and see how it goes from there

Phone bricked, cannot charge, need help ASAP

I need help with this NOW if anyone can. I figured I'd go ahead and make a thread for it so it would get seen. I was trying to update to 2.1 and something went wrong. Long story short the battery drained and now even when it's plugged into the wall all it does is flash its little red light. If I can get it to charge I think I can get things working again but as it stands I don't even know if it is charging. If I have it plugged into the wall and remove the battery the led turns green. If I put the batt back in afterwards it will go off after a bit and eventually "turn on" (in this case that just means that the screen comes on but is completely black but backlit) but there is no led indication at all so i don't know if it's charging or what. It doesn't seem to be. I really need help asap. Thanks in advance.
Silly question perhaps.. have you tried putting it into flash mode for SEUS (phone off hold back key, plug in USB cable)...?? does it register the phone?
Open pc companion hold back button and insert the micro Ian until it says stop it should then tell you your software is already the latest but if there's a problem you can use the repair option. Hth

Tried it just now, nothing.
My suggestion would be to plug it in for a few hours then try again. Or take battery out completely and try the back button without a battery. Might work. Might not. Sorry. Doubt the phone is bricked tho.

Just out of interest how long have you left it on the charge for? Because the red light flashes while charging until 10% and I remember once when my battery fully drained it did that for a few minutes until phone turned on again. Leave it for a while if you haven't done so.
The reason I ask is, incase you saw red light flashing and took it off charge straight away thinking its faulty? Like I said it sometimes takes a while to turn on fully when battery has died.
Edit: I know this is unhelpful, but that's why when you update via SEUS it says to ensure battery has 50%

I got he same problem 3 weeks ago. i could not get the phone to boot anymore even after trying all the unbrick method available here. so i sent it to sony ericsson service and they changed the motherboard.
okay, been charging for a while now and still have the red light. Pretty confident it isn't charging.
Plz try another usb cablr. I know about 20 people whoms usb cable accidently died and the phones cannot charge anymore ....

But the phone won't even boot. Will the battery charge while it's off? or when it's on a black screen? I know 2.1 lets it charge when it's off now, but the OP said the update screwed up.
Other suggestions that may take some time:
1. Find someone else who has an X10 and charge it in their phone.
2. Bring it to your phone provider and ask them to charge it.
3. Bring it to your phone provider and exchange the battery (temporarily?).
4. Buy an external wall charger (one that lets you charge the battery directly, not in the phone).
I ended up bypassing the phone and charging the battery directly via a macgyvered usb cable. Don't ask. lol. But I got it charged enough to use the se update tool and restore it back to the original rom. I'll try the update to 2.1 later after I get this thing charged all the way up. Thanks guys.

Also have u actually tried using flashtool? Or better Sony Ericsson update service?

Does the screen light up at all when you put in a battery? If it lights up slightly but still is "black screen" then try this to get into flash mode: remove battery, insert usb, hold back button and keep holding while you replace the battery.

are you sure the batteries have a decent charge?
Im not new, and yes I know what flash mode is, no its all black screen, the batteries are either low or dead, either way the phone won't offline charge

try leaving it plugged in for a little bit with the battery in anyway, an hour or so. If you're on a custom rom it might still charge enough to get it into flash mode

seriously plug it in with the battery in and leave it alone for a while...
I know it's tempting to keep trying, but you'll just drive yourself batty. Best to leave it alone take a breather for an hour, go have a beer and hopefully by the time you get back it will be responsive

I hear you can take the back cover off pull the battery and plug in the charger and you might get a light on the phone after a minute or two then with it still plugged in push the battery back and let sit over night.
You can also try this after 5 minutes with no light and leave overnight as I read a few places it allows the battery to charge
yes, if you take out the battery, then plug the phone into a *WALL* charger *NOT COMPUTER USB PORT* the green led should light up. when its green, try inserting the battery, then leave it alone for a while and see if it starts to charge.
good luck

I had exactly the same situation, zero battery and also feared that I lose my X10. What do I did?
1) Downloaded X10a_2.1update1_r2.1.A.0.435_Generic.ftf (and put it in the proper FlashTool folder).
2) Removed the battery for 1 minute, put the battery in the mobile again but don't powered the mobile on and also don't used the USB cable.
3) Started Flashtool and choosed to flash the file, and only connected the USB cable while pressing the "Back" button. When it ended flash, disconected the cable and... voila! It was working OK again. After that I installed my fave-super-complete WB ROM again.
So, why I'm being sooo detailed if you aren't n00b? Because when stressed, we sometimes forget something.
Hope the Stock 2.1 ROM in FlashTool helps you like it helped me.

[Q] Xperia U won't charge unless powered off when plugged in to main

Hi,
I have an Xperia U which suffered a broken screen from something being dropped on the phone. I replaced the screen but since then I seem to get the following charging problem.
If the phone is ON, it will not charge from USB PC or Mains charger, despite the phoning showing a charging icon and reporting 'Charging' in the Battery parts of settings.
If the phone is OFF, it will charge. During this charging, if the phone is switched ON, the phone will continue to charge!.
Any ideas please?
Gavin

Basically, if the phone is on when the charger is connected, the phone shows that its charging but it doesn't charge, the battery continues to drain.
The phone only charges when switched off. Whilst it is charging I can switch it on and it continues charging.
I guess to summarise, if the phone is on when the charger is connected then the phone doesn't charge!!
Any ideas?
Gavin
Even i face the same problem

no, this is not a solution; I`ve tried another charger, USB cable, battery, factory reset, flashed new firmware... problem persist... at service center told me thad USB connector have no problem, so is the chance that problem be in CPU?
I had this problem with the new 3.4 kernel on the XS you see. It was because I flashed and didn't fastboot the kernel. Thought it may be the same for you
When you flashed new firmware did you completely wipe the phone clean?

[Q] Xperia Ray not charging/ need to unroot to send for repair

Hi guys, i consider myself an intermediate around the android OS and i have tried most solutions that came to my head with no results.
My problem is the following:
My xperia ray is running stock rom ICS and is rooted. That's it
One day my battery suddenly drained to 0% and phone shut off.
Since then, i cannot charge it. Whenever i plugged it, the led blinks red /sometimes keep blinking/something always red/sometimes the phone boots after 10 seconds from entering the main page it will reboot.
I tried a different battery, the phone worked, so i bought another battery but the same happened, it suddenly went to 0% and not charging anymore.
Now I cannot access the phone via USB since it is not recognized and i can't work on it since there is no power,
What can i do to at least unroot it before sending it to warranty?
Try reflashing..

My phone isn't holding any charge, the battery is always 0, when charging it only gives red lights. Sometimes the phone will boot, it will show the xperia logo, go into the main lockscreen for 5 seconds then shuts off.
Buying a universal charger would mean waiting for 1 month for it to be delivered since i only found it on ebay

Was it damaged by water?
it's really easy to check if it was water damaged, open the back cover and look for a small WHITE rectangle, if you see a red rectangle it was water damaged, same with the battery it has a small white rectangle
IF NOT..see if SUS or PC companion recognises the phone..Repair your phone if it recognises.
IF NOT take out your phone battery for 15 seconds..put it back turn on the phone..and connect the charger but DO NOT SWITCH ON YOUR PHONE..let it charge for 5 HRS continuously..
IF NOT Try using another battery to turn your phone on...and see if it charges up..
Still NOT working?,Have you unlocked your boot loader ?

Thank you for your suggestions, i did something in the meanwhile.
I have a co-worker who has the exact phone, so i put my battery in her phone and charged it. In the meantime, i used her battery inside my device and used flashtool to flash stock ICS.
My device had bootloader unlocked, i managed to lock it back.
Now after i have a clean ICS copy unrooted. I return my friends phone, put in my battery and put it on the charger, the phone recognizes the charger, it gives me the small flash logo on the battery icon but the battery meter is not charging.
I'm afraid it's going to stay on until the battery drains to 0 and then i'm back to square one.
At least now i'm unrooted and can check the sony service center if they could do anything.

The battery voltage is increasing or not ?
Do not trust the battery meter...The voltage reading will tell whether its working fine or not..
Close to 4200 mV is 100%

Check if the port is clean and check the battery pins and pins on your phone.
Do you have the possibility to test another battery? So you can be sure it's not just your battery...
did you have try to let the smartphone shutdown by itselft? and charging the battery after that...
Sounding more and more like a hardware problem. If you have access to a voltmeter, turn your phone off, remove the battery and plug your phone in, check the voltage coming out of the battery terminals in the back. It should be ramping from 1 V to around 3.6 V (at least from the USB port, it might be higher from the wall charger).

thanks for the reply guys, I'm updating the thread so other people might benefit from reading it. I went to Sony service center. The technician first told me there was water damage, although i'm confident that the phone was never dropped in water. Also he showed me that the pins for the battery were bent.
He said he will inspect the motherboard, if it's not corroded (from water) he will replace the motherboard since it's still on warranty.
If it is corroded, he can't do anything.
The strange thing is that the phone is working 100% except i cannot charge it. USB function is working correctly.
PS: Always Unroot and re-lock your bootloader before sending to service, they will check for these and can refuse to serve you by the warranty.

[Q] s3 stucks at grey battery icon while charging!

here's the problem!!!
I rarely use s3 while exams going on!!
last time I switched off it while it is on 4% or 5% of battery.. and thrown in to the bag
now I just took phone and tried to turn it on!!
phone wont boot up..considered charging makes some sense..just connected cable to the s3..a grey icon of battery occurs and shutdown..again tried by plugging off and on..nothing happens same grey battery icon and shutdown..read somewhere that holding power and menu button will startup the phone..its working but phone again switched off after booting up in about 2 sec..
do I consider replacing battery?? if that's the case..it gave me an average battery life of day before.
I don't know what to do??:crying::crying:
someone please suggest me what to do
thanx in advance!!!
anyone???
Hold on Vol-Down+Home+Power and see if you can boot into download mode.
If you do plug your phone and reflash stock firmware through Odin.

No problem. I suggest trying another battery. And this is the best scenario here...

thank you!! it helped me to figureout something..but still confusing
I replaced a battery of another s3..
it worked..the best thing is my battery worked on another s3..
but my phone is not charging even after replacing battery..i thought charging pin of s3 is reason for all confusion..but if its the reason..when my battery is completely down(yesterday) I plugged in charger and it shown me some grey icon of charging(if charging pin is not working it will not show up)..and again confusion started..
iam currently in india..phone is rooted using android revolution hd rom..my warranty is not expired still..am I eligible for warranty??can I claim warranty?? I thought its not related to software issue..so comes under warranty.
ok even if it doesnot comes under warranty?? can I go for service center for repair..will they repair it(of course by taking some extra bucks)?
thanks again!!

bro i think your charger is the problem
Have you tried plugging it to a computer via USB cable? If that does not work then maybe buy a new battery. Cos there's a flaw in some Samsung batteries. They die completely if they reach 0%. Hope it helps. Good luck

I would bet the charger. My S3 always go to 0% before charging and never had a prob...
You should...
a) Flash latest software from Samsung through Odin for your country
b) Root it through chainfire's autoroot
c) Install and use Triangle Away to reset counter
d) Perform full unroot through supersu
e) Check if you have official status in download mode
Then you should use your warranty. Probably problem is in your USB cable or USB port in your device. I suggest firstly trying with other cable and if it doesn't help do as I told you above (if possible of course) and send it to warranty with a note "does not charge".
this happened to me and it was just the power button being stuck...I had the exact same issues.... I have 4 batteries so the issue was clearly not battery related. All i did was smack the phone around a bit and boots fine now.
mine just freeze in batery icon when i try to charge off.... but he charge normal on. anyone have that issue?

Yes, Sanosuke, i have the same problem. I think it happened after trying to use triangle away on my i9305T. When turned off, phone will charge, but frozen at the battery screen (at 0%, screen wont dime, nor change to the current battery levels).
Anyones know how to revert the changes made by triangle away?
Thanks!
I'm having the same issue installed Gummy ROM 4.4.4 everything is flawless except charging the device while powered off shows a grey battery with a frozen white circle
Ahm is the problem solved? Im experiencing the same..i cnant boot up and hen when i plug it on the charger gray battery with a circle inside is the only thing showing up.. i dont know if i can boot it up to download mode or etc.. can u rply here [email protected]
