Passport 2.0 in Canada - ZTE Axon 7 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hey there, fellow XDA! First time posting something over here, and I guess this might be interesting to many other members stationed through the Great North regarding the upcoming (since it's been on pre-order forever and a day, now) Axon 7.
I manage to speak extensively to a ZTE representative in Toronto earlier this week, and he cleared out some questions I had about the program. So, without further ado, some points that were raised by either me or him, and as best a clarification as I can provide from what I was told:
1 - The program is, officially, named Passport 2.0 just like south of the border.
2 - Unlocking the bootloader WILL void your warranty, no complaints taken.
3 - From everything entailed in Passport 2.0 for North America, the only point that's not valid at all in Canada is the 30-day satisfaction guarantee; then again, even in the US this guarantee only applies in full when the phone is not bought from a 3rd party (meaning Newegg, Amazon, Best Buy or any other shop) - in other words, you have to buy it from ZTE themselves, and since in Canada they don't sell to final customers directly, we're out of luck in this scenario.
4 - The "free advanced exchange of devices" incurs a charge to a credit card as assurance that we'll be sending our damaged phones to ZTE, and said charge will be refunded once the phone is received by them and everything is checked out.
5 - To me, the best upgrade from Passport 1.0 (for the Axon Pro) to 2.0 is the fact that ZTE decided to shift the whole support for Canadians to Toronto; therefore, we no longer would have to ship our phones to the US, as was the case previously.
And... That's all I can remember, for now. I'm not entirely sure I'd be able to answer any other questions, but feel free to ask - hopefully, if not me, someone else shall be able to shed some light!

Thank you for reporting your discussion.
Very nice that we don't have to ship to the US if a problem occur !!

No matter what the ZTE rep says it is 100% illegal for them to void warranty due to something completely unrelated to why the phone would be RMA'd. Sure no one will challenge ZTE on this (or any other company), but if someone had the time and money to take it to court it would set precedence and these mega corporations wouldn't so freely do whatever they want. Same goes for all the BS license agreements "By using our products you agree that you may not sue us for any reason and that we own your soul" - not legal no matter how much companies pretend it is.

This answers a bunch of my questions. I'm still wondering about how much the fee is for water damage repair.

2- This will probably change, as far my understanding they are redoing the unlock bootloader process + changing the "Warranty will be void " thing.
4- This is the same with the USA, they will NOT charge you they will just HOLD the full amount of the device $399 + $79 ( this amount is if your device is out of warranty / Damage cause by the user ). it will look like charge but is not really charge. (trust me i know i did a advance exchange and is just a hold not a charge....)

The warranty says there is a deductable to pay if it's water damage or physical damage. I am guessing it would be around the same amount Samsung would charge for a water damage repair.

Damn that is super cheap.
I'd love to be certain I can unlock the bootloader, drop the phone in water in only have to pay 79$. Loosing warranty over bootloader unlock is a concern for me.

Agreed. A driving factor in my purchase of the Axon 7 is the two year warranty. My Nexus 5 wifi chip hardware failed near the two year mark, and that basically makes it useless to me.
With the stock firmwares, unrooting/relocking bootloader tools in the dev subforum, could an unlocked bootloader Axon 7 be completely relocked to stock so it could be warrantied for hardware issues? I understand that you'd still be on your own if you brick the device through flashing.

Yeah, everything can be back to lock/stock status no problem. I have done it my self and i guess I'll just make a guide for relocking.

Called ZTE hotline out of curiosity to find out about warranty in Canada. The rep directed me to zte.dfcomputer.ca, and there is a specific service for Newegg Axon 7s. Here is what I saw:

$650 deposit when the phone is $500. I shouldn't be surprised by anything at this point. It's almost December and there's still practically nothing done and no way officially to unlock the bootloader. I don't want to hear about how I should somehow be grateful to ZTE for this rock bottom service, and that everything is coming. By the time ZTE deliver anything the phone will already be replaced by the next generation. I would have never bought it if I knew that would happen.

TEP for $4/mo ???

I Got my Evo 3D activated about a week ago and I didn't originally buy the insurance (TEP) but I am planning on buying it now. However, I checked to make sure it wasn't already added, and I found this.

Insurance for $4. Is that correct? And if not, do you think I will still be covered?
All the other phones on the account have TEP for $7/mo.
I ordered it off of wirefly.com if that makes a difference
I've never seen that code.
I'd double check what is covered with that
if its a discounted code or if its just the code for ESRP (which doesn't make sense the way its worded there)
could be an old code, a new code, something you had on there for a while maybe, or something they put on cause they get paid on it and scammed you.
What I can tell you, is that to my knowledge (there is a $4 warranty plan) but It doesn't cover everything that T.E.P. does ...but that **** does say T.E.P. right there so I'm stumped, call and check..simple answer.
Code is TEP4, you are good to go... I have it on all my phones.
You can one or the other for 4 each. Or both for a dollar off...
Interesting. I guess I'll just leave it and hope it works.
Can you apply the code after purchasing the warranty?

im connected to sprint chat checking to see if i can use the TEP4 thing....those responses about it on here seem a little detail lacking
the rep has never heard of it before, but is looking into it
will edit when i figure it out one way or the other
edit: yeah they have never heard of that...said there are no promotions
Hopefully I can switch from the $7. TEP to this one.

Quick search reveals that tep4 is an SOC code used by Sprint reps to give customers a TEP discount. It may have originated shortly after TEP increased from $4 to $5(1/2005 according to my bills) as a way to appease people who complained about the increase. Historically, increases were $5-$6 in 1/2006 and $6-$7 in 2/2007. Fyi, word is TEP is to increase from $7 to $8 July 24th.
Evidently, the code is still active, but finding a rep who will apply it is the big challenge. I might try it myself.
I wish Sprint would go with someone other than Asurion...I've had bad experiences with them.
the $4 tep is intended for long term customers that dont currently have insurance... congratulations... enjoy tep at half price

They never have phones in stock...I had to wait a week to get a replacement Evo, only for it to have issues. Then I had to wait ANOTHER week to get a new one.

I have never had issues with Asurion. They have been nothing but a pleasure to do business with besides, not having the Evo's in stock is not necessarily their fault. The same would happen with any insurance company Sprint went with. The demand for the Evo was even larger than Sprint and HTC had imagined so every one was out of stock on them and they were on back order everywhere.
Let's hear some success stories getting this code added!
This could be fantastic news!
Called twice they said no.
I'm not even sure how it got added in the first place.
$4 TEP is insurance only though. Which means only stuff you pay $100 deductible on, so you don't get the warranty and in store repairs of the $7 TEP. So if that is important to you keep the $7 TEP.
EDIT: I may have been wrong. I know TEP used to incorporate two services the insurance and the in store repairs, but since this is being called TEP in the system it may be the same thing as the $7 one but at a discount. just a word of warning because at one point in time you were able to buy the in store service and insurance separately with Sprint.
Actually no to all being a sprint rep you have a choice of service and repair for 4$, equipment replacement for 4$ od both for 7 soon to be 8$

There was a shortage of evo's at the time. Even service centers suffered/suffering with a 3 to 5 day wait on exchanges. i can tell you first hand of the many claims I've filed for customers, its always a smooth transaction.

Having trouble getting vzw to replace my fassy with a Charge, DI2 or X2

I have contacted Verizon customer support about the dropped/missing call issue in order to get a replacement droid charge, x2 or a inc 2. I have had no luck in getting a offer to replace the fassy with one of the above. Does anyone have any solutions/suggestions as to how to get vzw to replace the fascinate?

Go into the store, pay for a different phone, and have them activate it.
Seriously, ever other person on here is getting away with fraud. Boo hoo I missed a call once or twice so I need a new phone. A few people manage to talk their way into replacements and now everyone wants to do it.
It's a cell phone, not a hard line. Just like everything else in this world, there's going to be some issues at one point or another.
True, but if the company has itself found a flaw in the phone they need to replace what is faulty. I have been going through the threads and wanted to see if anyone had and information to help. I was told by CS at Verizon that if was likely my google forwarding that was making me miss calls. Yes, I miss calls. Most here are not committing fraud btw, that is just your opinion. I believe I speak the truth when I say most fassy owners miss calls. I never have this problem on my droid 1 or NV-touch.
While I agree that some are probably over exaggerating their problems in order to get a new device, it is a problem nonetheless. If it was nothing more than your standard cellular issues then this program would not be offered.
Not even close to fraud. Perhaps somewhat unethical (if you haven't noticed the issue).

I hate to contradict you, but it is a legitimate problem. You're slightly mistaken: many people have the problem, but at least in my case, I thought it was a software issue related to rooting/flashing custom ROMs. However, once the bulletin came out that it was a Samsung issue, we took advantage of it. It's a real problem - I spoke directly with Samsung (not Verizon) tech support, and they said that there is a team working to resolve the issue as we speak. So, perhaps it is a bit unethical. However, it is completely within our bounds as paying customers to do so.
I didn't even plan to ask for a replacement until my phone missed the call from my (now) boss offering me a job. When you have a job, you can't afford to miss a quarter of your calls.
Wow, close call. Glad you still got the job.

Sorry but when calls are not recieved or Text are missed, then wi/fi does not work and neither does GPS there is a problem with the phone. This is my wifes and never been rooted. I am calling today to see what they say. I have already done factory rest/data wipe. Did not help.

Do your homework before you post stupid and wrong stuff. I talked with Samsung customer support about the offer and the replacements, their supervisor said it is Samsung that is providing the Charge, as well ad other devices, some from competitors for those who want nothing to do with Samsung devices anymore, because ALL SCH-I500 devices are having serious call and data issues, they are doing it voluntarily trying to make it right with their customers. Samsung understands there is a very real problem with the I-500 phones, they have not, at the time I spoke to them, figured out what exactly it is or how to fix it. Their decision to do this is great from a customer service point of view. If it's broke and they can't fix it, they should replace it. Would you just accept a car being a lemon and the dealer/manufacturer saying sorry quit whining about, NO you'd take their ass to court, why should this be different, because it's a phone, get real.

All right, everyone chill now... No need for another flame war As for the vzw rep: I'm not convinced he/she is being completely honest with you - if you're planning to call customer service again, ask for tier 2 support - they are reported to be more inclined to help you. If you go to the vzw store again, perhaps a different vzw store is near where you live - try going there
Another Fascinating post by my XDA app...
I would rather they fix the issues. I love the screen, size and weight of the Fascinate. IMHO, it's better than the replacement options. Of course, before my 1 yr is up, I may look into taking advantage of my warranty, if it's not fixed.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
I went to another store any they offered a replacement and when the rep looked at his screen for ordering he said it showed 0 for quantity. I called CS and told them that I had been offered a replacement and right away I was put through to tier2. The tier2 person told me that I could have either a DX2 of DI2, then he put me through to another person. I asked that person about the Samsung charge and he told me that the Charge can only be ordered in-store as his system does not allow for the Charge to be ordered as a replacement kit although it is offered as an option. I will be going back to the VZW Corporate store to try to get my Charge (fingers crossed).
***Update***
Getting the Charge 2nd day mail!
I wonder when the Galaxy S2 will come out and if it will be offered as a replacement, if everything isn't fixed on the Fascinate by then.
I called tonight only offered another Fassy which is fine I just want a phone for my wife that works. I will put it through its paces to make sure it is good to go. They did say it should have all updates already.
Yeah I called and told them my problems with missed calls. to tell the truth I didn't even notice a problem till my wife tried to call me a bunch of times and my phone never rang or anything, then it happened to my wifes phone. My mother even said there were days she couldn't reach me because of it. I just asked if there was a way to fix it she said to do a factory reset did that didn't help. Then i was offered the x2 Dinc2 and the charge. she said for us to go to the store and see which one I liked better then to call back with my choice. I'm getting the Dinc2 when they get one in and my wife chose the x2.
But if they said that a fix was getting ready to come down the line I would have kept the fassy my wife and I love the phone. But we need it to be a phone.
They wont do anything if your warranty is out of date!
If your phone is older than a year they try to push you to use an update.
I just tried a local store and the CS number asked for tier 2 support and she basically said your phone is out of warranty sorry.

Unless you voided your warranty, everyone should have a warranty on the Fascinate since it has not been out more then a year.
well i purchased this phone from ebay and they gave me the run around. and wouldn't do anything for me.

The One, Its bootloader, AT&T, and me.

Has anyone said definitively the One's bootloader will be unlockable on HTC Dev, no matter the carrier? The One X was an amazing device, ruined by a horrible carrier. I want one, but only if it can be unlocked. I've scoured the internet and can't find anything other than links to HTC dev for bootloader unlock, but as we all know, HTC bowed to AT&T's wishes and the One X STILL can't be officially unlocked.
I haven't seen anything either, but I don't expect that to change since it's more of an AT&T policy than a manufacturer's call. And HTC needs all the carrier support it can get in the US right now so I'm sure it will be. However, I do know the AT&T One X+ can be unlocked even though it doesn't specifically state that on the HTC Dev page.
Regardless, you can get S-Off on the One XL now if you're willing to go for it so I wouldn't be too concerned. As for the One, ff AT&T won't let HTC let you unlock it, someone around here will figure out how to do it anyway.
Have you guys even bothered looking in the dev section? There's already a few people unlocked and rooted.
At&t hasn't released yet. I wanted to know if anything has been said regarding carriers restricting the unlock. What's out there now is irrelevant.

Its not unlockable, AT&T have blocked it again. It may get overturned as of last year but the reason for the developer addition was to get around this issue.

Typical - But I'll still put my faith in the folks around here to be able to work around that. Maybe not right away, but it will happen. The real trick would be S-Off, but that will take a while longer I assume.

If you look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2223236 you see there are 3 variants of the One. IMO the AT&T version should be the same as a EU version as far as I can tell, so it should be able to unlock without issues.

That's why I buy all my phones from the UK (clove) and have them shipped into the states. I really hate dealing with AT&T and there b.s.
I can't decide if I should cancel my AT&T pre order and get the Developer edition.
GUNNY! Great question. I moved to the x+ and forgot about that. You can bet if AT&T one cant be officially unlocked on day 1 its goin back. I won't deal with that bs from AT&T again. That's what ruined development for the AT&T one X. And yes the att X+ was unlockable from day 1.
And of course it's not in the dev section yet...that's because it hasn't been released.... Smh.
I don't think you can trust what any htc rep or AT&T rep says...learned that dealing with the HOXL. Just have to wait and see.

Gunny I'm glad you brought this up. It opened my eyes. I just canceled my pre order from ATT. I actually think i made out like a fat rat! They charged my credit card $750 bucks for the phone because i called in to order it, couldnt order from the business side online at early launch. She said she had to charge me full price that was in the computer and would credit me the difference. So she credited my wireless account $75. Nothing was mentioned about that at cancellation so maybe that will stick Also they said that the free HDMI thingy was for 2 year contract customers so they didnt add to my order. I complained so they sent one out free. It's already shipped. So i'm getting an unlocked dev edition for $649, a $75 credit to my wireless account and a free HDMI gift Anyone know what the best US insurance company is? That's the only disadvantage, no ATT insurance. Gotta call and remember to cancel the ONE X+ Insurance.
And to make things better, it's possible i get it even sooner than the ATT.

The Dev edition isn't shipping on Monday. It's a glitch their system. Mine was shipping on Friday until Friday passed. Customer service said the shipping date is the 18th. As of Friday, they didn't even have stock. Hopefully it ships sooner but I'm not expecting it.
Also, as said in previous posts, if your worried about a locked bootloader then buy the Dev edition. If you buy AT&T branded, then be prepared to live with the BL being locked. Not much room to complain since HTC is giving an option. For those that are signing a contract, you could always sell and order the Dev edition. That is if it's still available.

How to deal with tmobile HTC one gap issue

I was wondering what are people's experiences dealing with the HTC one gap issue with a phone that is purchased from tmobile. Is it better go through tmobile for an exchange or should I contact HTC for the replacement? Which way would be faster to get a replacement? I bought it off tmobile's online store if that makes any difference.
I got my phone on the tenth of may and since I'm overseas until June eighth I would be almost a month with the phone if that will make a difference in trying to get a replacement.
The gap issue that I have is on both the top and bottom of the phone. I can actually press the two parts together making it feel and look flimsy.

I have a decent gap that bothered me, but I was reluctant to ship my device and wait a week to get another one, that may also have issues. Since I ordered my One by calling Tmobile, they said I would have to ship it to a return center and what not. But, I've thought about checking if any nearby retail store have any that I could perhaps swap with. You could always try that, or worst case senario, call Tmobile and ship it out to them.
So far, I have decided not to return my device, due to having to pay for shipping and perhaps a restocking free, and being without a phone for the time being. No one has notice the gap that has seen my phone unless I point it out also.

thats bull****. go to any store and do a warranty exchange.
a device in warranty is replaced by sending you one first, then you mail yours back within the week.
you can't get an in-store swap unless its within 30 days.
here are a few pics of my t-mobile one.

I was not aware of this. Its been no more than a week since I have had the phone. I'll stop by a store after work and see if they can help, I'm always doubtful when dealing with T-maybe.

make sure it's a corporate store and not an authorized retailer.

To get instore replacement, it would have had to come from a store.
If it came through care, goto a store and do a warranty swap. They mail you a new one, you mail yours back in the same prepaid box.

So if I understand correctly since I bought my phone online, I go to a corporate store and request that they give me a warranty swap. Then they will send me a phone and I simply use the same box to send my old phone back to them? Or do i call customer care for my replacement?

Yes, exactly. Sorry for not being more clear.
If you don't have insurance they charge $20 your next bill. If you do have insurance they only charge $5.
The replacement is overnighted.

I live in Louisville and the way they do it here is if they have the phone in stock then they will replace it right then and there and if they don't have any in stock then they will send you a replacement overnight. I've done this with my HTC sensation, and galaxy s3. A few of my friends have done the same with there phones. And of course it's $5 for replacement unless there's physical damage done by the user that's not a defect then you would have to get a warranty exchange thought insurance

Mine has similar gaps, and sharp edges, but I bought a case for it and haven't thought of them since. I even paid full price for it. Its not the first time, I had an iPhone before and same ****, only after the 4th iPhone that came right. I just want to use the phone and not care about this since its in a case anyway. Plus I don't have issues where small things like this bug me

Device Protection for Nexus 5X and 6P with Fi is finally here!

Source
Hi Folks,
Protect your Nexus 5X or 6P from drops, cracks, and spills with device protection, now available for devices purchased from Project Fi.
With device protection, you can quickly get your phone replaced in the event of:
Accidental damage (including drops, cracks, and spills)
Mechanical breakdown (beyond the 1-year manufacturer's warranty period)
Enroll your phone for $5/month. A deductible will apply for device protection replacements ($69 for Nexus 5X, $99 for 6P).
If you’ve already purchased a Nexus 5X or 6P from Project Fi, log on to fi.google.com to enroll your device for a limited time. If you’re purchasing a new Nexus 5X or 6P from Project Fi, you can enroll during checkout or up to 30 days after shipment. Be sure to activate Project Fi service within this time window.

Same here. Thanks Ovrclck for the heads up, I would have been pissed if I missed the 30 day window. I've never had a phone as big as this 6P and I've been stressed about dropping and breaking it since I took it out of the box.

Hi what do you think guys if you cancel or pause your project fi service they will cancel your plan or you can still pay $5 a month and be covered I can't find anything about this in the agreement.
I was thinking originally to use my phone bare and pay for the Device protection, but I think is just to pricey. In case you need to replace it in the first year, you have to pay $150. $210 in the second year. Meanwhile, you can get a decent case for less than $10. I have never had damaged a phone so far, and my Nexus 5 did need replacement (twice) but all happened within the year. So I guess for me, it's worth to take the risk.

Well just try and keep it mind it doesn't just cover damage, it also covers hardware failure beyond the 1 year manufacturers warranty. In my experience, most flagship phones end up having issues especially early in production. It's actually happened with pretty much every phone I've owned in the last five years. Charging ports that failed in the droid charge, speakers that died in the droid maxx, screen flickering in the Galaxy S4. Sometimes its better to be safe than sorry as the problems often don't appear within the 1st year, especially if it involves a manufacturing defect.
this is an even worse rip off than nexus protect. check out upsie. basically the same coverage for a fraction of the cost
I pay $8/month for insurance on T-Mobile and I paid $9/month on Verizon. You guys really think $5/month is a ripoff?
FYI you still pay the deductible on both other carriers. Have you guys not ever paid for phone insurance before?
It's not that serious, buy it or don't.

$5 a month is too much. I use Upsie.com. I switched my stuff from Best Buy to them. Figured out I was over paying.
Kind of sh*tty that they won't offer this to people who bought their N6p's through the Google Store. The people who bought from the Google store had to pay for the entire 2 year protection plan up front ($89). Project Fi is owned by Google so why the hell wouldn't they extend the same service to Google Store consumers?
Strike one for Project Fi. Hopefully they don't get to three.

I'm not sure I understand your complaint. Google store coverage 2 years for 89, projectfi 120 for the same two years of coverage. I would have gladly paid upfront for Nexus protect as opposed to a monthly fee.

There are also coverage plans you can purchase from other insurance providers within a certain time frame. Squaretrade just requires a receipt and $99 for 2 years.

I agree. Better deal to buy it outright. Actually, I originally ordered my 6P from Amazon. But then found out I could not get the Nexus Protect for it. It's a little cheaper than the Squaretrade plan, the deductible is a bit higher ($14) and the coverage seems similar. I just felt in this case, the plan from Google was the way to go. So I returned the Amazon one unopened and ordered it from Google with the plan.
I've had device insurance either through the carrier or squaretrade for many years, and only used it once. Probably would have been money ahead just putting that money into a bank account.
Anyone here try upsie? It's very cheap. Enough to make me suspicious

Pretty obvious what my "complaint" (if you can call it that) is. Some of us might not need the full 2 year coverage. Some of us like to pay as we go because some of us are always on the hunt for greener grass. Some of us could probably find better device coverage within 2-3 months...... Therefore, some of us like having the option to just use it as temporary coverage until we find that greener grass....
....some of us.

Well there's nothing wrong with not wanting a full two years of coverage if you are one of the many XDA users who switch out devices constantly, but one thing you might not have noticed is Nexus protect is also transferable. Just add the cost onto the phone when you go to resell it, as most people would love to buy a used phone with an actual warranty. It's really a win win for everyone.

Yep. It's transferable and that's peachy, but I don't want to dump $90 all at once without knowing all of my options (present & future).....and....like I said in my last post....having that $5 a month coverage is a good temporary option until I find something more permanent.
