Full disk encryption on Kenzo - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

Which kenzo roms do have working full disk encryption?
On official CM13 FDE seems to be broken, it stops with "Cryptfs : Cannot create encrypted master key" error and there is no solution yet.

AFAIK, MIUI China & Global Beta based on Marshmallow has a fully working FDE.

It is the only reason I'm still on Miui. I've been on CM13 for a few days (whithout any important issue) and I had to revert to CM as it does not support Encryption.

Need stock ROM with encryption for X829

Hi all
To login to my work account I need to have non-modified stock rom with encryption. Somehow what I have (5.9.026s) cannot do encryption. Any idea which ROM I can use? Thanks!
You can use last official EUI for x829. It's 5.8.20s. It's pretty stable, has some new designed UI and encryption.

Unknown / Missing Widevine CDM

With all pie ROM coming in XDA, I picked up my favorite phone again and flash those rom. It went mostly fine, but then I realized that I can't use Netflix (even with older apk).
After installing DRM Info apps, I found that I have unknown Widevine CDM, so it is not even Widevine L3. I expected that I will miss Widevine L1 after bootloader unlock, but I don't think that I will not have any Widevine CDM. I tried several ROM including stock rom, but it won't restore my Widevine CDM.
To be honest I am not sure since when I lost Widevine CDM, but maybe this is a known issue, or anybody else has this experience? I tried to search Widevine in this Troubleshooting forum but can't find anything yet.
Thanks !
Hello!, I see the same issue on all PIE ROMs I tested, the solution i found to have Widevine L3, is after you flash the ROM, flash the RZ Kernel.
But if you have any exFAT card or USB you want to use with Z2 with this kernel, the OS won't recognize the storage, because the lack of support of the exFAT FS on the RZ Kernel.

Thanks, WIdevine L3 worked after flashing RZ Kernel. Seems SELinux is not enforced for RZ, but it's fine for me as this is not my main phone currently (although with Pie ROM, I am really tempted to use it again daily )
Before reading your solution, my workaround is using patched Netflix apk that floating around in XDA and will force HD streaming , but the version is a bit old.
So thanks for your help !!

[Curtana] Does flashing a custom ROM compel disabling force encryption?

First of all, I'm really sorry if this thread would turn out to be a dumb enquiry. I am new to intrinsically customising my phone and only have been using this device (Redmi Note 9S EEA Curtana, MIUI Global V11.0.4.0. QJWEUXM 4/64 GB) for 10 days. I've successfully installed root and TWRP on my phone after having thoroughly researched relevant information. The only thing is all my efforts regarding the removal of force encryption have so far failed. I'm inclined to install a custom ROM, e. g. LineageOs or Evolution X.
1. Is it a necessity to have encryption permanently disabled so that the flashing process proves viable? Currently, I'm only aware of a method which has its effect limited to the the period the phone is in recovery. It involves formatting data and then installing Magisk and thus I need to go through the set-up again. At the end of the operation, encryption is enabled again. I have no clue why. I've tested loads of no verity opt files, none of them worked in a proper way either.
2.Will installing a custom ROM eliminate root acces (since it performs a reinstallation targeting the entire system, let alone the patched boot image)?
3. In case something goes wrong, what's the correct procedure to return to the factory ROM? Is re-locking the bootloader a prerequisite? (See this guide https://c.mi.com/uk/miuidownload/detail?guide=2, for example. Notice how each of the stable MIUI releases there are marked with ★ next to them, meaning they're locked. I didn't quite grasp the message they were trying to convey with that explanation though.)
I'm conscious that's a lot to ask in a single thread, however, unlike myself, the majority of users here are supposedly tech enthusiast and probably have encountered similar difficulties on several occasions.
I hope that I've provided enough information and the thread has been named reasonably.
(Priority: detailed answers within a month would be great.)
Cheers,
Hsjaai
Just format data: twrp->wipe->format data write yes->reboot twrp and flash rom.
If you got error(red lignes reboot twrp and format again).
or
delete all your lockscreen security before flashing but to install a new rom you must format the data before.
Thanks for your quick response, honestly I didn't expect anyone to be this early to react.
As I've already mentioned, in TWRP there's a workaround for temporarily disabling encryption using the first method, the latter one doesn't seem to function as intended - that may be the case on newer devices, according to an article I've come across.
One last request. Could you please (briefly) answer my two other questions as well? How do I reinstall MIUI if something breaks down? Is the flashing apparatus provided by Xiaomi reliable?
I'll keep you updated on my progress,
Hsjaai

Use this tool who is reliable(if you follow the instructions). In all cases unroot before and reboot (if necessary).

Thank you so much once again for the help. What should I do if the worst-case scenario arised -essential parts of the file system got corrupted so that the phone wouldn't be capable of booting into system? Uninstall magisk via zip and then make use of the fastboot tool?

With Magisk app
I'm still unsure about something. Will the custom ROM be installed without hassle if I unroot Magisk at the beginning (meanwhile leaving the custom recovery intact, of course)? No guide seems to deem having root installed as a prerequisite. If you answer that, I'm really embarking on the flashing process.

Installing a custom rom (aosp or Miui) requires a data format (erases all data and creates a new partitions if necessary) which will remove root anyway, but sometimes root + twrp creates problems (can't mout the partitions) it is therefore to avoid this that I recommend you to unroot before.
In all cases (Aosp or custom Miui) magisk is installed last.
Which ROM do you want to install?
I'd like to install LineageOS first and see how compatible it is.

What device is Miatoll ?
Hello guys ! For some days or weeks, I see a new codename : Miatoll. I looked and search but I don't find what device is it. Can you helo me ? I wonder if I can flash my phone with a Miatoll Rom
forum.xda-developers.com
Miatoll ROMs are supposed to be compatible with Curtana if I haven't got something wrong... What's the deal with that?
I may consider flashing CherishOS instead, seems neat and the monthly updates appeal to me.

Don't flash magisk right away, check if the playstore is certified.
If not delele your google account and root with the Magisk app.
Of course, if you absolutely want to root your device for other reasons, ignore that.
***certified on redmi note 7
The installation of these should only differ (on a particular device) in the ROM that's being flashed az a zip, right?
For instance, see this guide. Could that be deemed to be applicable to any custom ROM?

Install the right TWRP
Be sure you have the right firmware.
If not flash it.
1)Twrp wipe format data write yes reboot twrp(if error reboot twrp and format again).
2)flash rom
3)reboot system
v11.0.4.0. QJWEUXM is a turkish rom(android 10)
V12.0.2.0.RJWMIXM is a global rom(android 11)Firmware base for AOSP
It is better to use Miflash and install TWrp after.(dont relock the bootloader).
Are you sure v11.0.4.0. QJWEUXM is the Turkish version? I thought it was EEA (the one tweaked for European countries). Installing the Global version seems alright, but why does the MIUI version has such a great effect on the outcome of the flashing?
Is that because both Cherish OS and the Global version are AOSP-based?

Yes, already superior OS gsi Rom based on Android 13
I tried installing other roms but nothing is working
I would imagine this is just an issue with generic ROMs not being properly customised for this device, as this behaviour is tricky for ROMs to get right. You'll only be able to tell if it's a hardware issue or not by going back to stock and seeing if it still happens.

i already have a13 and i have following problems:
-miracast
-offline charging (question Mark inside battery icon)
-lagging even in 90hz. I already fixed that disabling HW overlays in treble settings. I had one GSI that didn't require to disable these overlays, so it's suspicious to me
-No LTE+ (just LTE, in stock it just works)
-screen recording
I don't know any other bugs, I already didn't discovered any other
the offline charging problem is safe a problem fro the custom rom.
the problem with 90hz is that many apps fixed to 60fps and then result is very lagging apps.
try variable hz magisk module: https://t.me/RedmiNote11S_Community/9785
only cherishOS A13
Evolution 7.5
and Derpfest (but the latest "test" release) running smooth without disable hw-overlays. idk why..
things they better work in gsi rather than miui:
better sound from speaker and no f*** "switchhopping" between soundmodes caused by a faulty proximity-sensor
better call audio (clearence)
performance in gaming (Evolution 7.5)

There's no guarantee nothing, don't use it if you don't know what you're doing!
SAVE your DATA before!
Make sure you have a custom recovery installed (TWRP is the preferred recovery. [I'm not using Fox recovery, I'm not going to give you advice.])
TWRP_SZANCSO.img is my work, included 4.9 kernel, included Midnight Commander (mc), fixed many factory bugs, working USB storage mode, and DT2W.
Boot into recovery
Wipe system, vendor, data, cache partitions to clean install.
(If your /data partition secured, maybe need format /data if you want to use this ROM.)
Flash Rom in TWRP (sideload or copy any storage)
Flash OpenGapps (Optional) [I'm not using GAPPS, I'm not going to give you advice.] (NOT TESTED!)
Flash Magisk Root (Optional) [I'm not using Magisk, I'm not going to give you advice.] (NOT TESTED!)
Reboot (If TWRP warn that there is no system, it doesn't matter, go reboot.)
First boot may take up to ~1-2 minutes.

Known issues: -
Not tested: VOLTE, GAPPS, Magisk
Cool things:
-Include Midnight Commander (in adb)
-FM radio
-smart charging
-adb root
-24-25 days standby time (one charge)
-Enforced selinux
-Not encrypted
(I switched to this ROM from Ancient, it's terrible that some projects make many things mandatory (default encrypt, adb without root, etc.). It's sad that Open Source (AOSP) has come this far... They limit you like little kings... [email protected]!)

Hi szanalmas,
if you can please help me.
I have flashed lineage 20 to my Redmi Note 5A from the official site and I have these problems:
1. When I select the front camera I can only see a black screen. It seems that the camera works because I take photos which are totaly blacks.
2. The FM Radio does not work.
Both front camera and FM Radio worked properly and perfect with stock rom.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Sorry, I've never tried the "OFFICIAL" Lineage version, so I can't help you with that. It's pretty sad that it's so buggy.
I do not (and will not) use "retrofit antics" on my phone. The "retrofit" makes no sense in the case of ugglite.
My ported version is perfect for me.
(I don't even understand why ada12 is promoting it in this thread... It's pretty bad.)

From me, everyone uses whatever ROM they want.
My phone has been stable for 6 years, even without a retrofit. (In the case of a 512 MB vendor partition, there is no point the retrofit. I think!)
