Now that the note 7 is officially recalled, what will this mean for those deciding to get a replacement note 7? How will the resale value be affected? Any other downsides to this?

They should do like the S7 and S7 Edge, buy 1 get 1 free... sell the fixed devices and honor there guarantee as if it were new,
I'm not too worried about the resale point if view but the one thing that does concern me is if Sammy see it as a failed device and lower or even drop support for it such as bug fixes and updates.

Its just my opinion but this wouldnt surprise me.
They must realize by now that the boat has sailed on the note 7-there is no recovering from something lile this. People are just not going to want these devices.
Im a die hard sammy fan for years now...have every note since the note 2 but im not even sure when i get my replacement device if i will even unseal it. Likely i will just dump it and go another route.
I also dont see development going big either for the same reasons.. developers dont want a device that doesnt have a strong following.

See I'm still on the fence it is such a great device and I can't see a decent alternative. I already own the s7 edge (promised to my wife) and as a lot of us was really looking forward to the note 7. See mine is on order not replacement so I can cancel any time but what else is there to match the note series. I been given a new del date of 29 Oct. Guess I can see how this rollercoaster goes for the next few weeks.

Same boat as you I will be due for another jump in no time and not sure if will stay on the note 7. Won't be surprise if it does not see a lick of update
Guys, i've been struggling with the same thoughts this week. I've come to the conclusion that there is simply no phone on the market that can match the Note 7 overall. This phone is the most beautiful, well designed and functional device on the market right now. Any other phone would feel like a downgrade for me. Of course, i could get the Oneplus 3 and wait another year or so for the Note 8 which i'm sure will be a beast, but i will miss the Note 7 and the Gear VR so much, it's really not worth it for me. This device meets every need i have.
Regarding the software, here's my conclusion. Samsung has huge credibility issues and big financial losses due to the recall.
However, buyers of the Samsung Note line of phones are the most pretentious, loyal and enthusiastic of all Samsung clients. Samsung cannot afford to let Note 7 buyers down. In the long run, abandoning the Note 7 is a bad decision. Instead, i believe Samsung will have a big Note 7 relaunch with lots of marketing, we will possibly see new software features, a fast and stable Nougat update, Daydream VR support, possibly a Note 7 Plus (6GB+128GB) launch in December, and anything possible that will keep people talking about Samsung and Note 7 in a positive light.
I choose to believe this, and if i will be let down i probably won't ever buy another flagship again.
What else am I going to buy though? There's still nothing else that has a stylus and is worth looking at.

People have trusted Honda after the Takata airbag debacle. They also came back to Audi after their unintended acceleration disaster. People still fly AA even though 251 people were killed in Chicago due to sloppy maintenance. GM just had their best year ever after going through bankruptcy and covering up an ignition switch defect that killed 124 people. VW will be fine after intentionally cheating on emissions tests. Samsung will be fine too. There's always some short term impact from these types of things but strong brands power through them.

Just so torn between the newer devices and I have little hope that the holy trifecta of build/updates/camera on a phone these days isn't coming any time soon without throwing a phablet screen on it.
And now.... the Note 2 seems like the perfect device to go to from the SGS3.... I think 5"5 is just about the highest I can go -- though sorta not happy that is only has 267ppi (I am near-sighted even with glasses). The note 3 sounds to be too big, the new Nexus probably won't hit verizon, the HTC One's camera is the worst, and the SGS4 is not my phone....
Oh and Verizon has these coupons that brings a brand new Note 2 down to $204 so yeah
How do you guys like the phone? Are you upgrading or feeling an itch to?

Well, I have a few thoughts on it.
First off, you can't go wrong with this phone. I know we're all kind of still stuck in that mindset that we need the newest device available, but it just doesn't matter as much as it did two years ago. We reached that plateau where the computational hardware is more than powerful enough to run a perfectly smooth experience throughout the OS. Even with the new CPU architecture (A15 vs the A9 in this phone) in phones like the SGS4, the One, the GN3, etc. there's not much of a point in the extra power. When we went from A7 to A9 then single to dual core, it was a big deal. We needed the absolute best hardware to obtain the best experience we could. We've simply past that point.
With that said, 720p vs 1080p, to me at least, also means less than 720p vs WVGA. Even at 5.5" inches, it's really freakin' hard to see the difference. Also, if you have vision issues, you realize that things will be smaller in 1080p vs 720p? Things are sharper because they can fit more stuff in the same screen, and produce the same images at a smaller rate. DON'T "upgrade" to 1080p if that's an issue for you.
The biggest selling point for us, of course, is that the GN2 is the only one with an unlocked bootloader right now. There's hope that the SGS4 will have safestrap (maybe even kexec support too) soon, and while safestrap's great, it's not an unlocked bootloader. It's a big deal, it's getting harder to unlock them with every new generation of phones. Before you go with this though, really take the time to hold it in your hand there. If you're used to using your phone with one hand, it will be a lot harder. People actually laugh at how big my hands are, but I can only barely reach every part of this screen with my thumb.
The One has a beautiful design, screen, etc. but I personally can't give up a removable battery and external sd support. I have barely plugged this phone in because I swap batteries and use an external charger. Furthermore, I never worry about storage because of the sd. I can't give those up.
The Note 3 will probably be the same size as this device with a smaller bezel. It will probably be even thinner too, if the SGS3 to 4 is any precedent. It will be my first choice as an upgrade, but I'm in no rush. I'll wait until I can get a custom ROM/kernel on it so there's established & active development for it. I would hate to be stuck in the situation SGS4 users are in now. Even MDK users, the ones who were able to get their phone before the firmware update, barely have development options because there's such a small user base.
The new Nexus I can't really comment on, there's no substantial information available for it, which at least means it won't be available any time soon. The Nexus 4 and GNex were horribly-kept secrets, so the new one won't be any different.

I think I might just go with Amazon.... it's only 99 on there now. Going in today just to test the Moto X at VZW... though I know I'm pretty sure I'm going to be disappointed.
not saying i wont possibly break down and buy it at some point BUT..
1. with Jasmine Rom 2.4.1 i have all the software features and will continue to get more faster
2. Note 4 is bigger and heavier and was not expecting that for the same size battery and screen
3. i will not notice the processor bump as my N3 doesnt slack now
4. Finer print scanner - i have zero need for such a thing
5 Camera - this was the only feature that made me want it but i have the camera from a software prospective already and wasnt enough to make me jump
i am in NO WAY DISSING the Note 4 and if i werent on a custom Note 3 i would jump in a second. i just cant get myself to spend the money on it at this time and possibly never.
i have a Macbook that runs around $1,300 and when they release a new one with a better front camera and small processor bump i am not going to spend $1,300 again for such a small change.
sad day as i was really looking forward to it but ooh well

i wasnt trying to cause an argument or troll. i have a long history here with ZERO trolling of any kind and always try to help others.
i was simply posting in the Note 4 section about the Note 4 and what happened to me today and getting feedback from others. i cant be the only one in this situation of really wanting it but not seeing the $$$ value in coming from Note 3. as i said i would jump in a second coming from anything else like a S4 or Note 2.
Not to diss you in any shapr or form but...why didn't you just post this in the Note 3 forum? When I saw the title I thought was a mistype lol.
Thanks for making your point! I shall go enjoy my Note 4 now
P.S. I do see what you are saying, my friend is in the same boat. If I had the Note 3 I wouldn't jump either unless rom development simplied died with in the next 6 months
It leaves the G3 in the dust, but the N3 is still great and seems the N4 is not enough jump for an early upgrade. 64bit 20nm next year IMO will be.

i should have added that if it had Lollipop installed i would have probably bought it while i was there. i know its coming but i also know that i would be frustrated waiting while HTC and Motorola get their Lollipops on 1+ year old devices before i would see it on my N4 much like my N3.
maybe i shouldnt have posted this thread here and so forgive me anyone that i have upset but this was a day just like the release day of the S4 and N3 where i was excited and was there to be one of the first and i couldnt (at this time) spend the cash while holding my N3.

So what are the benefits to 64 bit in the near future? I'm running on the notion that the 64 bit note 4 won't be available for another year and widespread app support is probably another year to 2 years further down the line? I get the benefit of the 20nm process in terms of power consumption and more efficient battery use (though the Note 4 would get me through the day so does it really matter?), but are we really going to see big benefits from the 64 bit architecture before our 2 year contract is up on the note 4?

N3 is still a good phone, was my goto for the longest time. It was way ahead of it's time when released, and still puts some current flagships to shame (you know which ones I'm talking about).
I just feel with the release of the N4, Nexus 6, 1+1, etc, it's put the N3 as a mid-range phablet and once we get root on the N4 the EOL for the N3 will speed up significantly.

good points and why i stated "not at this time" with my purchase because likely in the future when i get bored and there is root and exciting things happening with the N4 i may jump to it.
i cant get too excited for N6 at all simply because i dont feel being Vanilla it will have those phablet software features i want to make it more than a big phone. we shall see though in that one.

hahaha i guess my title was misleading as i have had N3 since release date and so i just left with what i walked in with. i am sure something will happen to make me switch at some point
with the resale value of the note 3 I dont see why not if you have the upgrade available and are not in the situation of losing unlimited.
I personally love the fingerprint scanner, i thought at first it would be a gay gimmick thing and not work how I use them on laptops but its everything I wanted. I use a complex pattern normally to unlock my phone so being able to easily do the fingerprint works wonders for me. I also tend to like new ish and be with the curve (because you can never be ahead in the existing electronics industry)

Very true on the N5 and a whole year to enjoy the N4. Point was relative to the N3 and early upgrade expense.
64bit makes a HUGE difference without app rewrites for it. Look at the cpu power of the 5433 and the A7 and A8. It makes a huge computational difference.
That said, the only practical benefit is for game emulators for me, since they are 99% cpu driven.

i am in the opposite court and understand what you are saying for your needs. i remember when i use to buy new laptops every year because they just kept getting faster and i could feel the difference with each new purchase. that changed a few years ago when suddenly every upper level machine met my needs and the new ones although faster on specs wouldnt allow me to see anything new and exciting since i wouldnt be pushing them to see it.
phones like N3 have in that perspective meet my needs already and now i look for new pieces of tech like the stylus the Note series has or its IR blaster, great phablet specific features, and interaction with the rest of my Samsung electronics.
i dont know what will make me jump to a new phone these days because they havent announced what it is yet. the camera i know is better and would be nice but i just didnt see a "need" today.
i appreciate the respectful replies to this thread and as mentioned above i could sure be convinced to buy it sooner than later.
thanks

Use it for three days and you'll never go back to smaller. I went from a Moto X 2013 to a OPO and thought size would be a issue. It wasn't.
What we know so far?
We know that the 2 will come with Snapdragon's 810 processor, a USB type C cable and a fingerprint sensor/scanner.
All these things make it look like the Phonearena render might be real.
I think the 5.5 screen will be fine on 1+2 as I have got used to the bigger screen after using the OPO for quite some time and phones like iPhone look real small to me.
I am really excited for the launch of OnePlus cardboard on July 3, I just hope the shipping cost are not to high.
Yes, I agree. I don't want to go back to a 5" screen, My Nexus 5 seems tiny to me now.
Regarding the chip overheating, OP claim to have fixed that, both on the software, and the hardware via "passive cooling"
That's fine with me, I think my need for speed is satisfied, is more than satisfied by the 801 in my current One.
So, unless the overheating is a really bad problem, I shall buy this thing, pretty much on it's looks and style.
If I don't see anything compelling, and I haven't so far. I shall stick with the One.
It's so cheap (well assuming it will be highly competitively priced with other flagships) its hard not to buy it especially since I'm looking for something new right now to play with.
That said I think the invite system is just about the most idiotic thing ever and I flat out refuse to jump through hoops to buy something when I have the money just sitting there to spend.
If it's made readily available I will most def seriously consider it.
Invite system, pass and will explore something different.

After using the nexus 6 for a while, I loved it. I also felt the same about the 5x but there was something missing. I wanted the big screen back and all new hardware features from the new set of devices. (Plus the nexus 5x was laggy, and the nexus 6 was just slightly dated at this point).
So far I haven't been able to knock anything about this device. The only thing I guess I could say is that it's so thin and slick you always feel like you are going to drop it. This is the closest to iPhone quality standards that I've seen in a phone. Once you get it in your hands you will see it far exceeds anything currently out there running Android.
I'm not sure where all the hate has been coming from but this thing is a beautiful beast of a phone so far.
Congrats! Totally agree with you. I love my 6P. To be honest I think it is in its own league. Beautiful, sturdy and top notch quality.

Congratz! Enjoy this badboy 6P on XDA!
I want one but I am still loving my note 5... decisions, decisions! Anyone make the switch from a note 5?

I'm also trying to decide if I want to upgrade or not. I have the Nexus 6 at the moment.

I must say the note 5 doesn't hold a candle quality wise. If you are considering it and have the extra funds you won't be disappointed.

I was unsure about upgrading from the nexus 6 too, but the new features are so worth it. It's worth taking the chance I would just go for it. You won't be disappointed.

The only thing that is keeping me away at this point is the camera on the 6p... or I should say camera software. I will miss the s-pen though... But other then that.. all the reviews I have read and watched seem damn good.
I had a nexus 6 before this 6p and I loved my nexus 6, the slightly narrower design is the main deal breaker for me it's only a few mm but I always found the original nexus 6 just to wide, this 6p is perfect, I also in work have a note edge, it's not a patch on this phone imo.

I was always a note person as long as I can remember but once you take a look at it the software isnt that great. Plus this is the best camera on a phone I've seen.
The notes camera is better for sure but the 6p's is no slouch.
It's funny how the brain works once you spend a lot of money on something. I owned the Note 5 for a good while and the 6P for a little over a month. I now own neither phone.
Now as an outside observer with no money attached to either device, I can with 100% confidence assure everyone that the Note 5 has a better camera than the 6P.
People who say otherwise are lying to themselves unfortunately. I hate to sound harsh but that's the truth of the matter.
With that being said, the 6P has a very good camera. It's just not up to Note 5 levels overall.

I don't think anyone was speaking on the camera. To me, as far as build quality goes and software the 6p exceeds the note 5.

Other people brought up the camera, I wasn't replying specifically to you. Considering both of my 6P's bent, I wouldn't say the build quality is better. And software is a tough one. If you measure software by added features then the Note 5 kills the 6P. If you measure it by a stock experience then the 6P kills the Note.
Yes I had the s6 with all the features I mean gimmicks, but touchwiz is total crap. Yes the camera might be better on the note but it doesn't hold a candle to the N6 software wise and the development for nexus devices. Go get a point and shoot if you desperately need amazing photos. This is the best android phone on the market.

Yeah no offence to Samsung but touchwiz makes me want to rip my hair out. My mother has a s6 edge+ and I absolutely cannot stand the ui on it and neither can she. Very bloated and fairly hard to navigate, not to mention the lag. But IMHO it really depends what your looking for in a device whether you'll love the n6p over your current phone. Do you love nexus devices? Want latest android on a slick phone that will last? Treat your flagship very delicate because it is aluminum and electronics? Love customization or roms? The n6p is probably for you. Are you a professional photographer who uses their phone for that? Want a stylus? Don't baby your phone? Like stock "features" and "useful" apps? Probably not for you.

Will be doing so very soon, Samsung apps and memory management have been frustrating as well as not having a 64gb version locally until now. Can't wait

AS a network engineer I use smartphone for a variety of tools, my average SOT 6+. I get these phones thru work but I choose what they buy. From the S3, S4 to Note 3, Note 4 and Note 5. I always root. I was able to to have them swallow a Note 4 DE so I could have the unlocked bootloader on VZ network. During the new buying season they went with the Note 5 but I stayed with the Note 4, reason why, there will be no developer edition of it. So 6 days a go I got tired of Samsung lack of update on their phone especially the Note 4 so I decided to grab a 6P. This is not my phone Nexus phone, I had all them until the 6. Once the 6P came in I was already ready to flash what I wanted on it. I've went 6 days on the phone almost straight, lost sleep hours etc lol.
Can you say addicted to a phone? I couldn't believe I waited so long to get it. The Note 4 will be last Samsung phone, from now on I'll stay with nexus.

The presentation is really boring me. Was hoping apple would shake things up, who think they have? Tempted to return the note? I'm not at all. I await the mate 10, I think that might win the phone of 2017
Yes!

Definitive answer lol. Fair enough. What will they do in 2 years? They have to go straight to iPhone 11 lol. 9 will never be. Can't believe they pronounced it iPhone 10 lol
Mist definitely!! I mean, I just unboxed my Note 8 literally two hours ago, but i'm such a fanboy, that I just HAVE to have the newest, bestest things in life, even if my current device might be better than the newest bestest one that I'm jumping to. L.O.L.
No way in he*l. I'm never going back to the Apple eco system!
Try as I may, with each yearly unveiling of an Apple phone, I don't see anything that would yank me away from Android. Now I can't say the same for their accessories, because those always look cool and that wide size battery pad looks great, but the phones themselves, eh. Not enough to pull me away from Android. Especially if you compare any of those shown today with the Note8. The stylus on the Note8 is simply the best.
Taken with my note 8. This shouid answer your question I don't abandon I just add to the family lmao btw pictured g6 iPhone 7 plus s8 plus
I'm going to buy the iPhone x on day one, go straight home and put it on eBay for double the price
The cut out on the top of the X is very ugly
Wish note 8 could do 4k 60fps though....

Would be nice. Wish note had upgraded hardware, just would have differentiated it from 6 month old s8! Samsung was lazy this time. Saving money from note 7 problems?
Anyway the benchmark for iPhone x are crazy powerful, but pointless. Current android hardware is powerful enough for anything. Battery technology should be what they concentrate on from now on. And new innovations

Heck even Apple won't tell you battery size. Wtf?
iPhone 7 WOW'd me more than the X...easily the ugliest phone of the year lol. looks like a iPhone 3 with a ugly full screen. every other phone company who decide to go with edge to edge screens made a good looking phone. I would be embarrassed to walk around with that thing on my ear. plus the price tag???????damn
Just seems really silly to all of a sudden decide to switch. If someone was that much on the line about which phone, why even bother pre ordering/buying the Note 8. The iPhone still to this day can't do what I need, its why I buy android. I can appreciate it from a distance but until I can install apps from unknown sources it will always be a no go for me. Lets not forget the pen and everything that goes with that. I dont have to screw with itunes, I can manage my files like a COMPUTER. I need something versatile, not shiny and new. I probably wouldnt have gotten the Note 8 if I didnt get half off the price to own it.
Stupid top bezel, No USB C, Hit and miss Face ID with no other biometric option, crappier screen and more expensive. No thanks. If anyone wants it, they you might wanna shell out £1200 for the 256GB iPhone X as the [email protected] will eat your storage in seconds lmao.
Can't wait for my Note8
I heard that T-Mobile is doing a BOGO offer for the iPhone X, so that comes out to be $500 per phone, which isn't bad, providing one wants to get the X. Personally, I'll stay with my Note8. I really love that thing.
How would one go from the Note8 to that? That's like moving backwards.
