Mine (C5) was rooted with Kingroot and mrw.
I'd like to find out how can I backup/restore TA partition so I can use it later (probably on XA Ultra).

There is no way of backing up ta keys on any of the x range as they all come with mm out of the box. Ivyroot only works on lollipop kernels dated before Dec15 and backup ta needs root first before backing up and only upto 5.1. There's currently two options on all the x range either stay stock and keep your ta keys(which I'm currently doing not making the mistake of loosing ta keys again) or unlock the bootloader and permanently loose the ta keys to get root. Don't see it changing anytime soon either

Hello XDA members first of all thank you very much for providing guidance to root my new Xperia Ultra.
By your guide I manage to downgrade my .290 firmware to .532 after that I lost my IMEI but manage to root .532 and got root access
After that first thing I did was to Back up TA partition with Backup TA 9.10
Now my question is the size of the saved backup ta partition is only 140KB, so is it right size or it was not been backed-up just wondering because of the small file size. If you guys just confirm with your TA backup size then will be helpful.
Also I did this backup with .532 firmware and at that time i lost IMEI so this backup will work with other firmware if i update it to .290???
is it true if i root .290 after unlocking boot-loader will this TA backup can be use full to restore DRM keys in future and re-lock boot-loader?
Your help will be really appreciated.

My BackUp is 125KB so looks normal.
Not sure about the other Qs
To the other questions: yes should work fine - although I've never had need to try
Like Blueether says; yes, it'll work just fine. Your DRM keys are unique to your device, so no worries.

Hey guys,
im coming from Z1 dev and now my girlfriend bought a Z2 ... on Z1 we are rooting the oldest firmwares to backup TA with TA-Backup ... then we can open the bootloader and restore TA at any time ...
now i'm wondering how you guys do it at Z2?! i read that some guys have open booloaders, but what about TA?! lost forever?! or backuped with another method?! or ith unlocking the BL not wiping the TA anymore?!
would like to open and root the Z2, but not without saving the TA ...

backup using the same way
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292598
like he said on the thread, try to make a backup of TA & it will tell you if your device is supported or not.
remember, to backup TA, root is needed.
currently no exploit found yet to root locked bootloader.
conclusion : cant backup TA at the moment.
So effectivly we are waiting for a flashable ftf firmware with root?
Then we can use the TA backup tool, and then unlock bootloader and flash custom kernels with recovery and hence roms? ( I'm new to the xperia way)
Z2
yeah i think so ...
what i see is,k that we can't backup TA because we can't root without wiping TA at the moment ...
if we get a flashable FTF with rooted firmware for locked BL then we could flash it (excluding TA) and backup our TA .. after that we could open the BL, install a custom kernel with custom recovery and flash a custom rom ...
BUT ... we need root first .. that is what i wanted to know, thank you guys

Hello guys, I want to buy this tablet, but I heard about that if you unlock the bootloader and you will lose your DRM key, so some greart function can't work. I learn that there is a tool can backup and restore the TA partition for Z3C. Is there a tool can do the same for Z4 tablet? Or is there a method can restore lost functionality on unlocked Z4 tablet? Thank you very much.
No there is no way atm to backup ta partitions on z3+/z4/Tz4 and all z5 series until a kernel exploit is found and working on this units.

Hi, thanks a lot, hoping the kernel exploit is found soon.
Just to add to this post, I am thinking of buying this tablet because I have had a good experience with pollux windy but not being able to backup and restore the ta partitions is certainly a big strike against me purchasing this tablet.
Can you please tell me if it is at all possible to root the device and install Xposed without unlocking the boot loader then?

Nope, basically what keeps me away from this tablet as well...
I bought a Xperia X recently, and I hope to get it unlock and rooted. But it seems that unlock will erase the TA partition and lost some features permanently. So I want to know if there's a way to get temproot(such as iovyroot on z5, so I can make the partition backup).
By the way, does the backup function in the settings menu backup the application data, but not only the APKs in /data/app?

There's currently no way to back up ta keys on any of the x range as ivy root unfortunately only works on a lollipop kernel before December15 I think it is which no x range has releasing on mm, I'd love to be able to back up my xa ta keys so I can root via unlocked bootloader as doubtful there'll ever be a locked Bootloader root solution in the future alot don't seem to care about loosing ta keys due to the drm fix but I would like a way to go back to stock if the camera sucks or I need my warranty. Not sure about the Sony back up app think it's just data it backs up.

TA partition is 'something' that indeed needed by our Xperia devices which take a role keeping DRM keys, bionz image processing and others.... In short we are luckily and blessed by many devs that create method to backup TA because once we unlock bootlader it will gone forever and you can't take it back with any way including relocking bootloader
just read more from here or use SEARCH instead GOOGLE :highfive: and if you already understand what it is and/or how really important it is then I recommend this tool to backup your TA
if you don't back up the ta, you lose the sony exclusive camera functions
long story short you need flash reflash android 5.1.1 backup TA with scrpit , open Bootloader,>reinstall lastest ROM, flash boot.img >push superuser 2.7 (you can do it all with flash tool or adb terminal you need all sony drivers
i didnt do it yet with my z5c, just what i remmber from my older sony phone (i've still got warranty)
Hello
Thanks for the explanations about TA backup and one way destruction :-/ If i lost my TA partition and my DRM because I unlocked bootloader and rooted too fast in the past, the only way to get a new TA partition is to send the device back to Sony care I suppose ? (meaning phone reset + fee I suppose...)
So far the main loss with DRM is the camera feature. Can we get similar lost feature using 3rd party camera applications ?
uh... you might be able to fake a TA backup, by DRM fixing 5.1.1... check the picture guide, it's about 3 steps in
I will try it
