ProtonMail v1.4.1(174) - BLACK THEME - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everybody!
I've just registered and this will be my first thread and post.
I am very fond of black themes because they are much easier on my eyes and they are better looking than bright ones in my opinion. Since I wasn't able to find any black themed ProtonMail apk, I've tried my best to theme it myself even though I just recently started to learn about the process of theming few weeks ago.
I need your help to finish it. I'm currently stuck I have two problems:
1) I can't figure out how to theme the background of footer buttons ("reply", "reply all" and "forward")
i[DOT]imgur[DOT]com/t1CnPBj[DOT]png
2) and also I have troubles figuring how to theme popup backgrounds in this application. For example this popup:
i[DOT]imgur.com/qdCpNJ2[DOT]png
And here are the screenshots (and the apk) of the rest of the application that are themed properly so you can preview what I have done so far:
dropbox[DOT]com/sh/nbbwh3wh6k2lvrx/AABDvP5ikfe7phgrhKAibgjka?dl=0
I'M SORRY BUT THE FORUM IS PREVENTING ME FROM POSTING THE LINKS TO SCREENSHOTS AND APK BECAUSE I'M NEW TO THE FORUM
SO I HAD TO IMPROVISE WITH ADDING "DOT"
Thank you in advance!
I hope someone will be able to help me finish this theming

Any updates on this?

Can change all quicklink icons except Facebook icon.

I've only been poking around in this amazing device for two days now, and thanks to these forums and the amazing mods submitted by the developers, I have been able to change all of the icons except one. Even though the Facebook icon is updated under the start menu, I cannot for the life of me get it to change in quicklinks. My reading of the forms has led me to the registry, and yes the startup icon points to the right path. I've noticed (and this may be the crux of the problem) that every time I reboot, sense creates a new start icon_htc_facebook png and qtc file in the Windows folder. My question is, is there any way to get the new Facebook icon to appear in quick links or am I stuck with the default Facebook icon? Again thanks to the developers for all the cool stuff and advice which is been posted on this website. PS I'm looking forward to a fully working version of android for this device. Keep up the good work guys.

[Q] Default themes for Theme Chooser? [ANSWERED]

Hi,
I have installed GingerDX (v027) on my X8. In the Theme Chooser I have two themes to choose from: ICS and System (which is the one I use).
I really like how my phone looks as it does now, the only thing I would like to change is the color of the icons in the status bar (and of the main icons, if possible, of Call, Messages, Browser and the like) from green to something else, preferably blue.
I asume the right way to do this is by changing the theme (please correct me if I'm wrong).
I've read that CyanogenMod usually comes with three default themes (one theme in three different colors) and I would like to know where I might be able to find those themes (again, I'm asuming that the one I'm using, System, is one of those three).
I have tried downloading CM7 and extracted the files in the hope that I could find .apk files for the themes, but if they're there I don't know what they're called (there is a ThemeChooser.apk (and a ThemeChooser.odex file that I don't know what does), which I asume would install the app Theme Chooser again, but I don't know if the themes are included in that install).
I am a bit worried, though, that I've misunderstood something, because when I try to apply the other theme, Ice Cream Sandwich, the color of the icons aren't changed (but, there is also a warning when I try to apply the theme about missing assets for my screen size, maybe that is what is screwing things up). But if I have misunderstood this entire thing and a theme doesn't change the colors, then what does (do I need to get a new launcher for that then)? (I have the Nemus Launcher that came with GingerDX by the way)
Okay, this got a bit lengthy, so to recap:
I want to change the standard green color (to blue) without changing much else (I'm not too fond of most other themes I've seen, so the default theme in other colors would be fantastic)
Is it possible to find those default themes, and if so, how and where?
Thank you for your help,
Erica
(A side question: how do I delete the ICS theme?)
The other two themes you are talking about are Cyanbread and Androidian. The ThemeChooser.apk it's the theme chooser itself. They are normal CM7 themes, like ICS. Devs have eventually removed those 2 themes from their ROMs because they were old and not maintained anymore. System theme is the default theme of CM7/Gingerbread. You can't uninstall that one.
The "missing assets for the screen size" it's a bug which appears whenever you try to apply an MDPI theme. It's not screwing up anything, I can assure you that.
Also, what colors are you trying to change? Maybe you could give some screenshots.
You can delete the ICS theme by going into system/apps/ with a file manager with root capabilities.
First of all, thank you for the quick reply! (that was so unexpected - I guess I'm used to slow moving forums)
Secondly, it worked! Once I knew the names of the themes it was easy to find them. Also, thank you for the general info - it's good to know (I'm slowly becomming a little less of a noob).
Erica
Also have a look at themed & apps section....
there are some nice themes created by Chris95X8 & achep...
Is it important how did i send this?
Can some help me get my hands on a free version of steel blue theme? It looks great!!!
(Neo_na, isn't that a bit off topic? Oh well.)
If anyone's curious, here's an update on my color problem.
Installing Cyanbread sort of solved the issue: it changed the icons in the status bar from green to blue and the icon color (as well) from green to blue, which was what I wanted.
It didn't though change the color of the dots at the top of the screen (the ones that show where you are on the desktop) which was still green. I'm guessing, now that I know a bit more about themes and their different options, that it would have been possible to choose to hide those dots, but since I didn't know better I went looking for another solution (another reason for that is also that although Cyanbread is blue, then it's not the right kind of blue that matches the cover color of my phone - yes, I'm a bit of a perfectionist...)
I went looking for themes and found that both ADW and Go Launcher EX had a lot of good ones. I quickly realized, though, that none of those themes changed the status bar (which meant that I was back to my original problem).
So, here's my final solution (at least until I dare try my hand at making my own theme):
I found and installed a CM7 theme whose status bar I liked.
Then found a (in this case AWD) theme whose icons I liked.
Then changed the background image.
= a phone without any green!
(In the end I veered away from blue and I've ended up with a nice light glassy white combination that works really well with my prefered wallpaper. I've still chosen to hide the status bar though, since it's not a complete match and the screen looks better without it. And I've went into the CM7 settings to customize the lockscreen to fit as well as posible - I tried finding Go Locker themes, but none of them were perfect. The only odd bits of stray color is now an orange line that shows when you hit the top and end of the app drawer and I've had to chose to hide the background of the dock icons, since it looked botched on my phone for some reason - both are things I can easily live with.)

Nope, I don't think so. Coz its under themes category with a thread named 'default themes for theme chooser' so I just posted my question in a similar thread, which is, I am looking for a theme called steel blue.
And also since Chris is a Guy famous for theming I was hoping for an answer from him.
@chris - And btw, your xperia s theme looks great mate!!
This might just be pouring fuel on the fire, but...
Neo_na: The reason why I think your post is off topic is because it has nothing to do with the original post (it might fit in with the title, but only if you haven't read the rest of the post).
I think you need to ask your question in another thread, possibly make a new thread for it, if you want it answered (especially since I've already labelled this thread as answered).
Though, just a warning, I think your request might clash with the forum rules (about not promoting or discussion "warez"). Just a heads up.

Lol, I'd rather post in existing threads that are very similar to my query rather than create threads for each and every question, like you probably do (which is like spamming and discouraged by xda). haha.... and no, you're not pouring fuel...... and btw, there's no such thing as private threads even if the thread was created by you..... you're acting like nobody can post or ask anything coz its YOUR thread and only your issues should be solved in this thread. Its like a Guy claiming a public phone Booth to be his alone....,..

[THEME][GB] Utilitarian ICS Theme for DSC (Work has stopped)

Hello everybody, this is my first theme, and I hope it's a good enough product for XDA and the Streak 5 community!
I have been forced by circumstances to stop all hobby projects for some time, and unfortunately this includes this theme. If anyone has the time and wants to continue work on this theme, or just to make a theme starting from this one, he/she is free to do so, as long as the people I have thanked here in the thread as well as myself are credited. Once again, thank you _n0p_ for a good ROM and I apologize for leaving my work unfinished.
Before I start, I want to thank _2bad4u_, nickshertzer and tenorntex for letting me use PNG's from their MattedBlues theme, the original MattedBlues theme creators for their theme, Google for a much improved interface for Android after version 4.0, LG for their smart (IMO) mod of white popups and backgrounds, and _n0p_ most for the most complete ROM for Streak, and the best performing one. (_n0p_, if you could add longpress-back-key-to-kill-app functionality from CM in DSC, I'll owe you a big case of beer.)
NOTE
This theme is made for DSC (1.5 currently) running in MDPI Portrait. I didn't test extensively in Landscape, but so far I didn't find any bugs that weren't already there in Portrait, so I guess it's ok. I have NOT tested any other GB ROM, DSC version, or other DPI, and I DO NOT guarantee that it will work if you flash this theme on anything other than DSC 1.5.
Installation Instructions
I am a noob with the more complicated stuff, so I went for the simplest solution I could find. In post #3 are .zip files that contain the framework, systemui and settings app. Just flash the suitable zip using Streakmod Recovery and you're good to go. USE ONLY ONE ZIP. The difference between them is explained in the Bugs post.
DESCRIPTION
As some of you probably agree, stock GB looks like crap, stock ICS looks much better. So I started making a theme for DSC, my ROM of choice, that would fulfill (most of) my aesthetic and functional ideals. However, this is an ICS-inspired theme, not an attempt to replicate that interface style, so please don't ask me to copy ICS, because that's not what I'm trying to do. I follow my own guidelines (listed below) when doing this theme, and some of them are actually the opposite of stock ICS.
Main Features
Starting from the ICS look, I want the theme to have the following characteristics:
MDPI base, because on our device, in HDPI, a lot of apps take too much screen space with interface elements, and this lowers the amount of useful information on screen
All white popups (windows, dialogs, popup menus, toasts) with black text, because IMO black on white is easier to see in direct sunlight , given the same screen brightness and text size, and we don't have LED screens so the battery drain isn't any higher. Also, popups should be obvious and clearly visible, either because they were brought up by the user, or because they were brought up by Android and contain useful information
Blue text (on black) for titles, hints and other text that can't be interacted with (pressed, copied), to better distinguish from black or white text, that can be copied, pressed or otherwise interacted with
Clear text hierarchy: Main (application) title (largest), Category title (large), Main text, buttons (medium), subtext/note/description (small)
Secondary modifications
There is also a number of smaller scale modifications, that include but are not limited to
Bigger text on buttons, because MDPI makes it too small on our device
Bigger text in Recent Applications, because it takes up the whole screen anyway
Thin volume/seek bars, ICS Style, with handle (not in the Music app, because the app isn't themed)
Modded Settings app for ICS Icons
Modded Quick Toggles from the DSC ROM to suit the theme, added overscroll effect
Modded gradient background
ICS notification icons
New menu popup icons
Replaced radio buttons with check buttons, for consistency
Increased text size in popup menus to Medium (from small), decreased text size from the "more" popup menu to Medium (from large). (Why were they different in stock GB?? It's basically the same menu!)
Hidden the Notifications and Ongoing titles from Notifications (but not the separators), because they are useless, every Android user knows which is which, and the notifications are already full of text most of the time
more stuff I don't remember now but you'll find out!
SCREENSHOTS
KNOWN BUGS
I have modified quite a few things for this theme, so a few bugs are to be expected. Here are listed the known bugs, and below I attached screenshots.
1. The stock phone app has some trouble with backgrounds other than black, as far as I can tell. In the screenshots you see a black square behind the "call" icon in the call log. It can be fixed using a non-transparent icon that covers that entire space, but since I'm using exDialer (MIUI fan!) with the white ICS theme, this fix was low on my priority list. I will add it in a later version for those who want the stock phone app, but I recommend you use another dialer/contacts app if the theme is important, because I will not theme other apps than the ones already themed. I don't have a lot of time and I've already worked more than I wanted to do this theme.
2. The stock alarm clock app also has problems with the gradient background. The alarm times are not visible in portrait, only in landscape (it's visible in the screenshots). You can turn the alarms on and off, and if you press the bugged area where the alarm time used to be, it still takes you to the alarm edit screen, where there are no bugs, so it's only the alarm selection screen that has bugs. I won't be theming this app either, so again I suggest using a different alarm app if you want to have the gradient background.
3. The email app overlaps 1 bigger and 1 smaller activity title bar. I don't know why, and I haven't used the stock theme since I started working on this one to know if the problem was there before. Again, I won't be theming this app either, so there probably won't be any fixes coming from me.
4. Not really a bug, but in some apps the popup menus use some of their own icons and some of the icons from the framework you have installed. In most cases they won't be the same and will look like crap together, and there's no fix (that I know of) other than theming all the other apps (which I won't do). Below is a screenshot of the issue in Terminal Emulator.
5. Mismatched light bottom popup. I couldn't track down the problem, and now I won't be able to.
BUG FIXES
A fix for the clock and phone, for those who do not want to use alternate phone or clock apps, is to eliminate the gradient background and revert to the stock black background. Until I find an alternative fix, I will attach 2 zips for each release version, a black background and a gradient background. Other than that there is no difference between them.
BUG REPORTING
If you find a bug, either in stock apps or in other apps, and you are sure it's my theme that causes the problem and not a problem with the app itself, then please report here. A screenshot would be most helpful as well. Bugs include white on white, black on black or grey on grey text (popups aren't perfectly white, so white text could still be visible, and black text should be visible on grey popups)
Releases
Releases
Current version: 0.6b for DSC 1.5
v0.6b changelog:
-Grey panel_background png, used for USSD popup and Root Explorer permissions popup, for example, is now white
-minor color modifications
-bottom part of popup fixed
As stated in the Bugs post, "gradient_background_vXX.zip" is the full theme, while "black_background_vXX.zip" uses the stock black background to eliminate the phone and alarm clock bugs. Flash either one using Streakmod, over DSC 1.5.
Great job, i like it, make's wanna come back to dsc. Because it's a great rom, and now it's looking like ics. Great job.

Thanks man. Now I regret my decision a little, it's a lot of work to do a theme, more than I thought. I hope people like it.
Please make it for longhorn2.9.3. pls

Both framework-res and systemUI are missing META-INF folder with manifest. This will cause system to bootloop (no rights in system) right from start, or if you are lucky, after factory reset
Simply copy that folder from original.

Attached - quickly changed manifest and install script of black background version, works for me.

Fixed! It always booted fine for me, so I never checked, I completely forgot. Thanks! I'll be using your install procedure from now on.
Edit: I just tested and saw the message the install script shows. Very cool, thank you. I always wanted something like that!

I'm sorry, but to port the theme to CM based ROMs is like starting over, as far as I know. I need to take a look at it to be sure. It's too much to do for the little time I have at the moment. Maybe I'll look into it once the theme goes into a more final stage. Right now I'm trying to track down all the bugs and make the last few popups white.
Sorry, i forgot to mention that you need to also copy AndroidManifest.xml from source.
I will try to diff and create a zip mod for your theme.
This will free us from recreating the theme for framework/system apps changes.

[Q] Remove TouchWiz DropShadow on Icons

Hello XDA community!
I'm new to the forums and I've found many great things here
I've started this thread to seek some help regarding a problem. I recently discovered a little bug in KitKat ROM (TouchWiz 4.4.2) where for a split second you can see that the shadows behind the icons is vanishing. I actually like the idea of removing the shadows behind the apps but I couldn't find a way to do so.
This bug is a little stranger because when the shadow is gone, there's this overlay of the status bar that appears out of nowhere.
I tried to modify different files from SecLauncher3.apk, like \res\values\styles.xml or color.xml but I couldn't get it done.
I don't like to use launchers so please don't recommend any.
TL;DR I need help to remove the shadow behind the apps and remove the overlay of the status bar.
I would appreciate if anyone could help me with this!
Sorry for my bad English.
Regards

Anyone have a stock lg theme apk to share, or willing to share a V30 theme source?

Hi themers,
Just picked up a V30 and desperately want to change the window shade and settings menu backgrounds to black. I've started by taking a theme and beginning to reverse engineer it, but it would be much easier if someone would post a theme with full source, and/or the LG theme apk. Thanks!

In the themes section of settings, there's s theme called "high contrast". Wouldn't that theme do what you're seeking?
Yeah, that would fix the primary problem, though I'm not a huge fan of the Halloween orange hi-contrast switches. Since theme-ing the v30 appears to all be done the hard way, I'd like to help provide the resources for everyone to be able to edit themes themselves to customize whatever they'd like.
Adjusting to a locked up carried skinned phone is rough after coming from oneplus.
