Guys, i bought a phone in ebay...
Dell Venue 2.2.2 android version.
kernel 2.6.32.9-perf
build 15696
baseband version GTOUB1A132131-US
i found in it, an icon called SUPERUSER, i have to say this is my first android, so i dont know anything about this OS phone, i had a Venue Pro in past...
As i have read, SuperUser means phone is already rooted, right?
I have locked it to ATT, when i go to System Updates, browser say no updates and ATT logo appears...
My question is, if it's already rooted, which i suppose, it have no apps, but there is no software to unlock it ans use any GSM chip? something like ultrasnow in the iphones...?
Im planing to use it in mexico, so i suppose baseband also will need to be "flashed" or whatever...
Please help!
Thanks
Locked and Rooted
If you have superuser, then the phone should be rooted already. As for carrier unlocking, there is not that I know of a way via software to unlock the phone. The best bet would be to insert a sim from another company and verify if it is still locked, then if it is have whoever sold you the phone call AT&T and get it unlocked for you. After sim unlocking, you can use a mexican sim without any trouble or requiring baseband changes.
yes, i inserted another SIM, it's locked, i contacted DELL via [email protected], they said this phone is retail, so they would not provide code, at store, they said Dell would provide, they are playing with the ball....
omg, how difficult is to setup an email account in android... pff took me 30 min, in all way because yahoo need PLUS to allow pop and forwarding, my venue pro didnt have that problem at config (and never got a plus at yahoo).. so i downloaded yahoo app from android marketplace and i had access to my email... i think i start to hate this venue, lol
email
I have 5 email accounts coming into my Venue, though none are Yahoo. It wasn't any more difficult to set up than MS Outlook was.
Rooting is made up of 2 parts:
The superuser app
the SU binary.
The app can be downloaded from the market on any device, rooted or not. It merely doesnt do anything on an unrooted device.
The SU binary is what does the work, that you need to either flash with custom recovery or use an exploit (such as gingerbreak) to install. Though pretty much all exploits are fixed in 321+
No unlock code from DELL or Carrier...
Ok, guys
After several frustrating calls, emails and so... neither Dell or Carrier from the phone were able to give me an unlock code... they only kick the ball from side, i contacted the Dell unlock Team, and they said:
Dear Customer,
Please contact the carrier for more assistance on this issue. We would not be able to release the unlock code as the device is in contract with the carrier.
Mobility Unlock Code Team
I paid to 1 guy in ebay to obtain the code, but, he refunded, he couldnt find a code for my device... obviously the phone was sold to me as it is... seller didnt specified it still was in contract, so... i want to ask if you know a good and serious source to try to get codes and unlock this device...
Any help will be very appreciated...
I was given a new S2 on Orange (running ICS) which I didn't want or need, so I sold it. The person who bought it said she wanted an unlocked phone to use on another network and I told her she could get this phone unlocked, either for free, if she googled it (using a couple of apps that root then unlock) or from most phone shops. She bought it on that proviso.
I received a call from her today - she is complaining that she tried the "free" way - which didn't work, then tried a number of phone shops, every one of which said that the phone couldn't be unlocked.
She may have done the "free" way incorrectly therefore making it impossible for the phone to now be unlocked. I feel somewhat responsible but don't want to take back the phone now. I said I would call in to try to help her when I'm next in her area. Is there anything I can do to get the phone unlocked now?
Any help and advice would be very welcome and thank you in advance.
I doubt there is anything that can be done and the assistance you are asking may not be forthcoming from this forum.

Whoever tries to unlock the phone will need some basic knowledge in this area and needs to understand all the risks associated with this process. If you can tick off these two boxes just follow a few simple steps (just done that myself and can confirm it works fine):
1. Root your GS2 (plenty of threads on this forum)
2. Go to Google Play and search for "Galaxy S Unlock", the author is "Helroz".
3. Run the app from step 2. Go to "Unlock SGSII" tab on the top of the screen.
4. Tap on the first item:"Step 1 Backup files...."
5. Tap on the second item:"Step 2 Change lock-bytes", and wait until your phone restarts.
That's it.
No chance. If mobile repair shops can't unlock it, no way anything from Google Play (or anywhere else, Unlock SGSII included) will unlock it. Somebody is paying for an unlock code from a carrier.
u mite wanna chk dese links

This is the way to do it. It works because i did it this way 2 months ago on my orange uk I9100P last week on my draughts new I9100P. You might have to update your bussybox that's all
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Many thanks to everyone for their inputs, I really appreciate it. I'll be trying today/tomorrow to sort it and will update with result.
Cheers everyone.
All done successfully - many thanks to all who replied to my plea for help.
i am having samsung galaxy s2 I9100 .i brought it second hand.i dont know that it is not factory unlocked.now i flashed my s2 to leaked XXLSJ 4.2.1.now my device is asking for sim card unlock code.what should i do.....plzzzz help
OK first time in this forum, (so please be kind!!)
I'm not a total newbie to android - Google Nexus One - CM7.2 and SGS CM9.
Currently :
S2 GT-i9100P
Android 4.0.4
Baseband - I9100PBVLPB
Kernel - 3.0.15-I9100BULPC-CL332484
Build no. IMM76D.BVLPC
Was originally running 2.3.6 GB but updated via KIES to 4.0.4
Rooted with CF-Root
Yes, I have backed up my efs file
Yes. I have the dodgy emmc chip
NO!! Not bothered with NFC as probably gonna go CM10 when succesfully unlocked.
I've tried all the unlocking routes, free and paid (still waiting for several refunds!!). "Helroz" works, but if phone is restarted, have
to run app again to get unlock.
Does anyone have a permanent fix?
If it were for me, then no problem running Helroz every time, but it's for my daughter so want something permanent.
Going to go to a "phone shop" tomorrow to see what they can do....But much prefer to get it sorterd here with people that know and care!!
Thanks in advance
OK After MORE searching, finally found the thread for "GalaxySim Unlock 1.02" Duly downloaded and works a treat. I have thanked in that thread.
I have been reading in forums about rooting and unlocking phones. I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 . Model # is SGH-S959G.. It is Android version 2.3.6 and has Gingerbread UDL12.
I want to unlock the phone as it shows in my settings that Network Lock is "ON" and SP Lock is "ON". Subset lock is off as well as CP lock..
I understand that I may have to root the phone. I see from most of the threads I have read in various places, they were posted back from 2010 and up to about 2013. I am not seeing anything that appears to be current in threads that tell how to do this. I am wondering if there have been updates or changes, or even if this phone can be rooted or unlocked.
I purchased the phone at full price from Walmart. Used Straight Talk as the provider, but now I want to simply change to another provider using this phone instead of the phone they want to provide. When I bought the phone, unlocked and a lot of other things meant nothing to me because I was totally unfamiliar with phones. I still do not use the phone too much. I am 63 and not savvy to most of this, but did want to make sure I know all the facts ( as much as there are any ) before doing anything, as I am on limited income now and sure can not afford to really mess up my phone. Can you tell me if there are more updated posts or news on how to root or unlock this phone.
First, welcome to the XDA forums. There is a dedicated thread for your device, you can find it here. In the first post you'll find very specific information for your phone, so my recommendation would be to check there and see if it answers any other questions you might have.
To unlock you don't necessarily have to root your phone, but if you DO want to root the procedure is much easier than it used to be. Just download the Framaroot app from this thread and use the Aragorn exploit when prompted. Then reboot and you'll be rooted.
But again, you don't have to root just to unlock.
Here is a link to an old app that used to work for unlocking the i777/959... https://app.box.com/s/mu8xp28np9y7f9r9psqswljhhlhkfx3q. In order to install the app you may need to go to System Settings > Security > and check "Unknown Sources". This will allow the app to install, bypassing the "Play Store-only" check. If you're uncomfortable leaving "Unknown Sources" checked after you've installed the app, simply uncheck it it afterwards.
Because these devices are older and out of the warranty time-frame it's perfectly legitimate to unlock them, so see if that app will work. No guarantees, though! If you have any other questions please feel free to ask here, but you may find better answers from those users who actually have your device, as I have a tendency to over complicate things!

Thank you Steve. I did use the link and downloaded the old app you provided link for, but it did not work after following instructions. It gave me a message about Root Access Denied, Please check your ROM is rooted. .. Does this mean I would have to root my phone?
Probably, but it isn't a big deal if you decide to do it. In every sense rooting is actually beneficial, as it gives the user compete control over their devices and what's installed. You can root and never install a custom ROM, so the only thing that would be detrimental would be if you had to return it for a warranty issue (of which there is a way to unroot/return to stock). But because these devices are out of warranty due to age, there's no reason not to root.
So my advice would be to download Framaroot from my previous post and use the Aragorn exploit, then reboot and run the Sim Unlock. That should work.
I have a ANS UL40 phone through Assurance wireless / >Virgin Mobile> Sprint.. and am trying to root this phone so I can get the SPC code to run DFS tools. Have used DFS and loaded phone and unlock with default password, but when I try 000000 spc unlock says device offline and all prompts in all fields go from yellow to red and in a few minutes go back to yellow showing device info.
I need info off this phone to flash my SM-N900P phone over to Assurance Wireless. The UL40 phone uses a sim card, have tried in note 3 but no service and then sim locked please reboot phone. I have tries on UL40 many different rooting apks and through pc. Most say root fail or your phone doesn't seem to be able to root. Any help would be appreciated. To root the ANS UL40 and also how to flash over Note 3. I have done flashing before on a note 2. So i basically know what to do. When I did try to flash over the note 3 I just get your account cannot be verified when calling 611 (without the sim) but when I insert sim its says no sim or sim locked reboot phone. Thanks
Guess nobody knows
kingroot rooted the ans, but I rebooted and it earesed it, and it didn't seem to give out permission s, not in a joking manner

do you know which 32bit drivers this phone might use?
I tried that one and it didn't root it and so many other programs and or apk's. Do not know if this phone is arm -- 64-- or 32. I do know that the maker of the phone actually is Teleepock company in China ** http://www.teleepoch.com/en/ ** no info on this model phone on their website..
Default file manager is CyanogenMod File Manager

Hi,
My friend just got the same phone and while setting it up for her I noticed that the default file manager is called CyanogenMod File Manager. It's probably meaningless but thought I'd share it just in case there's some sort of CyanogenMod back door. Good luck and if you do get it rooted please let me know.
I found a paid root that will root UL 40 Assurance choose the 6 mo lan.. https://www.oneclickroot.com/support-packages/
I wouldn't have asked on here if I wanted to pay for it, and they are not a guarantee they can do it. have read somewhere that someone ask them to do the same phone and they could not............ And no still no root. Probably does not matter. Talked to Assurance wireless rep today and they said lots of people are complaining about this phone. I have had in less than 2 weeks of getting it, had to have them warranty it and they sent me the same one. It would reboot on it's own and yes did factory reset. Now have the replacement, haven't done any kind of rooting or anything and on day 2 it starting to not be able to make phone calls. Says phone is not responding. Did a factory reset on this one and still doing same thing. Sometimes it does make a call and sometimes not. Pissed I am....
I stumbled across a site. Idk but it looks like it could contain some valuable info you may need or may be looking for. Send me a message or email me for the link. Since I've not posted before, it won't allow me to post the link.
I have decided to go to another provider for my cell phone and the UL40 phone will be no more. After talking to them so many times and finding they are complete idiots. Because they keep sending me a phone that stops working correctly after 1-3 days. Even before I started trying to root. I even talk to a real English speaking (LOL) person and they told me what I already knew, the ANS UL40 phone is a complete piece of ****. So many people have complained to them about that phone they decided not to ship out anymore. Now what kind of phone i will get from other carrier, I'll have to wait and see. Thanks all.............

I am looking for a custom ROM for my ANS UL40
Hello.
I was wondering if there would be anyone nice enough to make a custom ROM for the ANS UL40. I would do i tbut I don't have the coding skills or patience to do so.
ANS UL40 "Cast" compatibility w/Actiontec ScreenBeam Mini2
Asking if ANS UL40 "Cast" will run Actiontec ScreenBeam Mini2.
UL40 is "CAST" standard compatible with Mini2 (WiFi Mirocast and INTEL WiDi certified) ?
UL40 able to PARE WiFi and update Mini2 firmware. UL40 says CONNECTED, but click "CAST" and phone goes back to WiFi. Mini2 screen says Connection Failed.
If able to preform firmware update, then UL40 is communicating w/Mini2 so, UL40 should be compatible, but "CAST" fails.
Please advise.
Many kind thanks.
Any luck unlocking this phone so far?

Hope someone can figure out how to gain root access on this phone I have it and It would be a blessing
you can unlock the bootloader in android dev settings "OEM unlocking", once in bootloader cmds like "fastboot oem unlock" or "fastboot flashing unlock" do nothing when connected with usb, what a shame. In recovery (vol up + power) there's an option to mount system, it does but I doubt that can lead to anything root access wise, btw, root noob.

Could you elaborate!?
In which market are you in?
It seems to me that they are still shipping it in many markets Assurance Wireless is in, like Oregon for example... so how did you come by that information?
I got this phone a couple days ago and got my msl code by running adb logcat while dialing ##data# and entering the wrong code, it was 536978 and used this on DFS to change it to 000000 then I was able to access everything once I entered ##diag# and then 000000, and enabled diagnostics. If I can get a working stock firmware or boot IMG I could root through magisk and then do separate fastboot boot (magisk patched)boot.img. I am unable to find a stock firmware for this device if anyone can let me know and I'll have root for us.

Did you ever create a working root? I have this phone as well.
micro sd card
Does anyone know what is the maximum micro sd card supported by this phone?
Hi I'd like to thank you at a time for any help I may receive here. Basically I've done some research and under the impression my phone can be rooted . I want to root an essentially network unlock my phone normally I go to somebody from this forms and he doesn't remotely for me. This time he told me that this phone isnt possible. Normally that would be good enough for me but I've seen a lot of evidence of other people being able to root this phone I'm having an issue cuz I don't have windows-based PC with me all I have is a Mac so I cannot run lgup. Is it possible to root this phone with a Mac if I can't is it possible to network unlock my phone with a code. Thank you
