Hi all,
This isn't a "stir the pot" kind of question and I don't intend to start a "why root?" discussion... I've read as many other threads as possible and I'm just not clear on a few things. In a current "why do you want to root?" thread, many responded that they rooted so they could remove bloat ware, use wifi tethering, etc. Those are all the things I want, but I'm not sure how far I need to go to get those. Will I need to flash a custom ROM or can I do what I want now?
So, here's what I've got and what I hope to get:
I bought I DNA from a guy who wanted to "upgrade" to an iPhone 5. It did not have the 2.0 software update, so I was able to unlock it, S-OFF, and root it. I can use the SDK and adb, but primarily to follow instructions. Beyond that, I don't really know what I can do now. I had Cyanogen on my trusty old Nexus 1 and on my Xoom tablet, so I'm not afraid of custom ROMs. But, I have to say that I'm pretty pleased with the stock DNA ROM. Except for a few things...
1) What I would like is to get rid of the silly games which I won't use. I don't know enough to know if I can, with the stock ROM but root access, remove those. There's no uninstall option, but perhaps there's a way to remove those with root access? Or would I need to flash a custom ROM?
2) Remove the "entitlement check" on the wifi hotspot app. Since I'm running on T-Mo the app won't, of course, allow activation of the hotspot. Silly... I've read several threads on using SQLite to do this, but they're from last year and either the process has changed or it no longer works. I have read that I can use another app, which is an option. But if there's a way to run the stock app, I'd go for that.
So, you can see I don't really want to change much. If I can do these now, with what access I've got, please let me know (and how, please!). If I need a custom ROM, I see three options it seems. CM (which I've always liked, but seems not yet ready for DNA??), Viper and Hatka seem to be the options which are popular. I'm open to guidance here. Not a "this is the best ROM argument", but which would you recommend for my minimalist needs?
EDIT - I mentioned "three options" above, but that was just based on my reading in the past two weeks. I see there's a new M7 rom and that thread already has over 100 pages in about a week, so it looks like a popular option as well. Apologies if I missed somebody's work and I'm open to any pointers and experiences.
Thanks in advance,

I guess if you know the name of the apk of the games, you can use root explorer to remove them from /system/apps but keep in mind we do not know what else it may break and then you may have to ruu back.
if you want to try a rom, try the sense 5 port by newtoroot
To remove some of the user / system apps like twitter or picas, i search 'root uninstaller' in the apps store, and the one with a green trash can has been quite reliable for me ^^
I personally like the minimalistic touch to the M7 / Sense 5 Rom. Easy to get my news, use gps, play music WITH beats on bluetooth/speaker, etc. But stock is really good to, no complaints there.
Thanks and an update - I ended up flashing the M7 and, like you said, it's nice. And an unexpected bonus is that the included wifi hotspot app works just fine with my T-Mo service, without any modifications at all.
I've got everything I wanted and it was easy, once I made the choice.
Hello! I am a fairly experienced graphic designer, I am 16 years old and have been designing for 6 years. I was wondering if anyone would like to help me develop apps, I am looking for a coder, That is willingly coding the graphical layouts and designs/ideas I put together, From that, I would really love to just make a new friend. So please, Hit me up if you're interested.
Here is some idea I've been having:
So, It's an omegle app, No big deal, But I used to design for a guy that developed this app, Now unfortunately I can not reach him anymore, And would like to recreate that app (I use Omegle a lot and a nice app for my android device is simply perfect.).
Here are my mockups so far.
( I can not post links since I'm a new user. PM me and I'll find a way to get it to you, However, I'll try to post it somehow. )

Uh.. Hello? I was at least expecting a reply of some sort. :/
I'm looking for themes for a friend. He's not rooted and has no intention to.
Beside the default themes from Xperia, The Green, Maks Mayer, Knowit Mobile AB, IRemi Mobile Theme, TDX Devs that you can find on the Google Play Store, are there any other location or site to check out?
Nope, Themes need root or superuser mod because they have been signed by sony
you wont find that easy at all..
I've already gathered that you'd need root. Unfortunately, this post aims to the ones that don't want to ROOT. I've been able to do quite a bit without root. There's ways to get your themes signed and loaded to work. That's what I'm exploring and looks good so far.
I am looking for someone who can help me. I really want a complete theme of Doctor Who including boot screens, Sounds, icons, lock screen and Dialer. Basically if you can theme it I want it. I don't care if it is the new series or the old although I think the new series would have more fun graphics and sounds. I would like this to be TWRP flashable if possible. I hope this is the place for this. I know someone is going to say make one yourself however I am disabled and mainly use voice software to control my computer. If you have tried it the software is still limited in many ways and just won't work for this type thing. I am willing to pay someone if I need to just PM me and we can work out a deal. I thank you all very much .
Hi everyone!
So long story short I used to have an Xperia Neo, and a few months ago, ending up in the xda developement section here, I decided to try and unlock the boodloader, root it, and put Cyanogenmod 11 on it, after hours and hours of googling.
That phone is now almost destroyed (mechanically, because of myself) but I have another Xperia, this time a Neo V, which I'd like to "improve" in this way.
I am wondering, anybody has any advice on how to go about it?
This is what I'm looking for:
- Have at least some modern apps working (whatsapp, spotify, messenger?)
- Have the ability to put them on SD card and not internal memory
- No bugs on common stuff like telephone, SMS and browser
- No extra battery drain than what I already have
Any advice how to go about it? Should I go the CM13 way? CM11? Is there even one stable custom mod anywhere I can find without bugs? My CM11 was rather buggy and didn't support most apps (no facebook messenger, etc), and I couldn't put all of my programs on the SD but just part of them.
Any help would be appreciated. Just something like "oh this mod works well and the links are still alive, go here *link*".
Hope I'm in the right section.
Just to be clear, I'm not asking "what is the best ROM", as I saw that is forbidden here.
I am asking: if I wanted the phone to run smoothly, what way should I go about it? Should I root it again and go Cyanogenmod? Should I look into other possibilities? Would I get a better result just going stock and using gapps and other apps that remove bloatware instead?
If anyone has got this phone to a good standard please just let me know how you did it and I'll be super grateful.
There are so many ways to go about it I honestly have no idea where to start with
Up, any recommendations at all?
