Hey
owner of a rooted galaxy note 2 with Eclipse V9 rom android version 4.4.4
i recently replaced my default_gain file because the volume in my headset was way too low for me to hear it while riding.
so i changed it. it worked just fine for a couple of days but now i cant hear anyone and they cant hear me.
its not a problem with the headset since its work just fine with other phones.
i think returning the original default_gain file back but it did not help.

You CAN but the devs for that ROM probably hang out in their ROM thread and not in the Q&A FORUM. Thread and forum are not the same.
This problem is not rom related since they changed one of the default files.
When you replaced the file, did you set the permissions correctly and reboot? If you did and it still did not work, it might be a good idea to put the stock firmware back on with Odin and redo the rom.

im not sure what do you mean by setting the right permissions.. but i did reboot afterward. its currently back on the default file that came with the room
Files in the system must have the correct permissions for read/write access. Generally this is done with a file manager that has root permissions such as Root Explorer, ES File Explorer, etc.
You can find more information about this here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1431543

Yes. Is it set to 0644 as mentioned in the link provided? If so and it still doesn't work, then you can try just reflashing the rom first so you might not need to wipe the device. Just make sure you wipe cache and dalvik cache and reflash Eclipse.
If that does not work, then reflash stock and then redo recovery and rom.

You need to check the permissions of the default xml file that you were messing with. Navigate to the file with ES and long press on it (I think...it has been years since I have used the app and know that it has changed a bit since then) to see the option to view the permissions for that file.

Can u please make a flashable zip file i have yet to learn how to phsh files. Im refering to the transparent notification bar
I tried to get the transparent notification bar by pushing it to the framework.res with root explorer, after rebooting I got stuck in a boot loop on the bootanimation screen and had to eventually just reflash the rom. Am I missing something here? Looks cool, and the 2.2.5.6 is great. Thanks!

Into the framework.res?
You push it into system/framework
I took the picture 5 minutes before the post up there, and was on 2.2.5.6
It works..
Sorry, I was probably using the wrong terminology. I pushed it into system/framework and it asked if I wanted to replace the current file named framework.res, and I said yes and then rebooted. I am sure it does work, but I am just curious as to what I did wrong to end up in a boot loop. Thanks for any help or advice

Have you tried to push it via recovery & droid explorer?
No, I haven't tried that yet. I have pretty much only pushed things with root explorer and flashed flashable zips through recovery. I will do a search to see how to do that. Is Droid Explorer an app like root explorer? Thanks

Yeah, it is an app like root explorer, except you use it from your computer
ok, if you don't mind, how can I push it through recovery? Does it require using ADB? I haven't mastered that yet, but I'm sure I could learn, but if its easier than that it would be best, haha.
For some reason, its only transparent whenever I pull down down the notification bar. Its dark grey for me.

it wont just install like that..
Ive uploaded an empty update file.. just place ur BlurGallery.apk file (you got from previous user) inside the /system/app folder and use CWM Recovery to install it.. should be fine..
ignore the arctic motorola home launcher message whilst its installing via CWM.. iv always just used it as a template package lol
well hope it helps!
just do a backup incase u run into a problem.. although cant see why you should run into 1.. but better safe than sorry
Edit - maybe another way would be using something like rootexplorer and replacing the file located in /system/app with the one you got and fixing permission.. just a lil unsure if theres anything extra required here.. hence the reason why ive stated above method. anyhu good luck.. let me know how it goes!!
thanks. but how do i install using cwm?
just figure out what u mean.. will try it.. tq very much!
Edit: tried and failed.. nothibg happened after flashed it. I m sure i ve insert the apk to the update file
generally all u had to do with previous package is
1) insert the .apk file in system/app folder
2) install via CWM
3) fix permissions
should have worked but if not the case then il be more than happy just to put a package together for you. on GSM but im sure gallery really doesnt differ much. just let me know if ya need it pal..
Yup after installed it i have changed the permission in the apk in app/data ..
After reboot, it seems nothing change
What should i do?
I meant fix permissions in CWM.. also shud be system/app. just attach gallery here n il send package.. then u can fix permissions and should b fine after!

1) place zip on sdcard
2) reboot in cwm
3) go to cwm main menu, advanced > wipe dalvik cache (upto u)
4) go back to main menu > install zip > choose zip > then pick zip file (ignore the message about home launcher whilst it is installing.. just using zip as template basically)
5) go to main menu > advanced > fix permissions
6) reboot (if you wipe dalvik cache will take a little while longer to reboot) and you should be good to go!!
P.s - just do backup to avoid anything going wrong! also put in alternative one which is with the gallery i use.. dunno if it matters that im using GSM or not though. just uploaded incase u have no luck with the first 1.
best of luck pal!!!

will this work on razr maxx?
To start with, my friend bought an S2 from somebody, and it was running stock Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread, if i remember correctly something that ended with KI4. He had one problem: he could not log into his gmail account regardless of what he did so he decided to ask me to update his device. And this is where the fun started:
I tried to update using the OTA feature, but as he couldn't add his google account it didn't work.
Next i tried updating through KIES, but strangly it said that there was no update available.
We decided to root the phone and try installing a custom ROM.
We rooted it with the CF-Kernel and then installed Neat ROM Lite, but the ROM is not important.
After successfully installing it an starting the phone, we were stunned by the image below. The strangest part is that the image is above the wallpaper but under the widgets and when scrolling through home screens in remains there just like the four short cuts below.

Also, the home button did not work. From here on i have asked for help from the ROM developer and did the next things
Flashed the official LPX firmware with ODIN. It is worth mentioning that he is able to add his account on any 4.0.x ROm, but other problems appear. In the stock official LPX the home button worked but the strange image was still there.
After this we flashed the Siyah kernel via Odin, did the usual cleaning up like restore to factory settings, clearing every cache, formatting system after which i installed the custom ROM again but with the same results: home button not working and the image was still there.
My questions are:
1.How do i get rid of that bloody image on the stock ROM, since that seemed to be the best one.
2.How do i make the home button work again in the Neat ROM 3.3.
It is also important to mention that i have not yet tried other custom ROMs since i will only get my friends phone tomorrow. I have a feeling that i will have the same problems with other ROMs regardless of their official/custom status. I also remember that somebody had this problem before but i am unable to find that particular post, so if the person who found the solution reads this post please help me too
Thanks in advance.

sorry for odex. but you had much to remove. settings.odex ?? strange that its not working on odex ... not enough guys. I thought there was not. Users 4.4.4 sprint
When I renamed the secsettings.odex to secsettings.bak (file name isn't exact, I don't think) , other things quit working. The lock screen no longer worked. My home and power buttons didn't function correctly. But, I had all the unlock effects listed. I tried to get the stone skip one to work, but I didn't have a lock screen. So, I renamed settings back to .odex, but that didn't work to fix. So, I restored only the system part of a week old backup. And everything worked. The stone skip was my unlock effect. When I went into my unlock effect settings, only the stock ones were there and none were selected.
That's when I decided to dirty flash stock rooted deodex rom on my phone. Everything seems good now!
I don't know if I did something wrong, or wrong order or what, but, I enjoy the learning process of getting stuff to work.
Thanks again for this!
Worked fine for me, thank you for the upload.

Any similar apk oit there for lollipop? I'm guessing this one isn't compatible...
We all know that one of the reasons for rooting is to be able to get rid of bloatware......
But what if you've deleted the wrong app by mistake?
How do you get it back?
You *could* re flash the firmware or download the firmware, extract it and try to locate the missing app from the extracted files.......
Wouldn't it be easier to be able to simply get hold of a copy of the app and push it to it's original location?
Hopefully the links below will help you do just that......
System>>app apps

System>>priv-app apps

Just download the relevant zip, extract it, push the required app(s) to its/their correct location, set permissions (rw- r-- r--) and reboot.
These apps have been ripped from the Touchwiz 4.4.2 ANG2 firmware on a G900F.
I don't claim any ownership or copyright over them, I supply them 'as is' for legitimate use in replacing mistakenly deleted apps in firmwares, and accept no responsibility for any problems caused by using them.
They will work with Touchwiz KitKat firmwares, but I can't vouch for Lollipop or newer as I don't know if Samsung changed their firmware framework in any critical areas with the newer firmwares....
The only apps I haven't included in either zip are those connected with knox.....but let's face it, nobody wants them anyway....

Can we expect a lollipop version soon?

Probably not for the forseeable future....unless somebody else provides it......at this time, I'm not contemplating upgrading my device to Lollipop. ...I run a few UI mods and at the moment, lollipop has broken (some) of that capability.....
Ripping those apps is pretty easy anyway.....
All you need is a rooted S5 running lollipop and an app like Root Explorer that can change the RO status of the app directory to RW......
Then all you do is copy the apps (without the odex files) into a folder on (for example) external storage and (optionally) zip the folder......simples
If somebody wants to do that, I'm more than happy to host it on my AFH....(with credit/mention given).....
Edit....downloading lollipop from sammobile now (give it another 24 hrs and the download might have finished) at that point, I'll see if it's possible to extract the apps from the firmware tar....
If it is, I'll upload them to AFH and post a link.......although I won't know for certain whether they should go in System>>app or System>>priv-app.....
Having said that, if a member needs them the chances are that they'll also know which directory to push them to....
Edit 2......
No joy....downloaded the firmware, was able to extract twice (zip to tar, then tar to img files) and couldn't get any further.....
Tried using 7 zip on my pc and 7zipper2.0 on my phone.....

do you have any solution if we accidentally delete the odex file too. I made backups of the apk and odex but repushing them back didnt work. Any ideas?

The odex file should 'regenerate' automatically the next time you re-boot.....
I'm sure you've seen the 'Android is Upgrading' message appear when you boot up after a factory reset, or during the first boot after a rom flash......
This is what is happening when you see that.....The odex files being generated....

Did you change the permissions on the apk file before rebooting? (Need to be set to RW- R-- R--)
If not, you need to do that......then delete the odex file you pushed into the directory and reboot....

Im using ES File Explorer so i set MOUNT R/W / and /system to RW to be able to replace and delete the files. Then i set them to RO and reboot.. no luck.
Im guessing thats wrong.

No....that's not setting permissions, that's just changing the read/write status of the directory you're working in.....
You are correct in that you need to set it to RW before you start though.....
Try 'long pressing' on the app in question and see if a dialogue box appears....If it does, look for 'permissions'.........
I use Root Explorer, so I'm not sure how ES File Explorer does things......

The messages app crashes. Never mind it works.
The dialer and contacts app don't seem to work on the US models as it causes acore error and crashes.
