Hey i came to hong kong for a business trip and tried a local GSM sim but i get this sim is not supported error. DOes anyone know how to fix this.
I tried same thing sim on another phone it works. So not sure what the issue is ? did i need to get an unlock code from verizon before i left ?
If you can get access to a computer for awhile go through Adams unlock process in the original android dev forum and you'll be carrier unlocked, not sure what Verizon would give you for a code cant hurt to call and ask, but keep in mind unlocking it is something that can be done by you from here

You sure it wasn't a "Non-Verizon SIM" on going notification? I've read of people using all sorts of different carrier SIMs and they all had at least voice/sms service if they had a signal. The phone is already SIM unlocked, so VZW couldnt give you much.

The non-Verizon SIM notification doesn't actually do anything. You should be able to get voice just by putting the SIM in. To set up data, you'll need to be rooted and add the APN manually.
Hello Community,
I recently purchased a used HTC Droid DNA on eBay. The user couldn't tell me very much about the phone beyond describing it's exterior condition to me. I didn't have to play with this phone for very long before I realized what a pleasurable device this would be to use, especially for someone upgrading from a Motorola Bionic. HOWEVER, it also wasn't very long into my usual customizations that I realized, that like my Bionic early on, doing anything fun on this phone is a son-of-a-*****.
I want to eventually root this phone, flash Cyanogenmod, and then flash it to Pageplus Cellular, but first things first. I really don't want to wait 5 days for a AT&T SIM card to get here from Minnesota or wherever, so does anyone know of a way I can tell if this device is already unlocked? Perhaps someone knows of an application or some other software than can tell me, or maybe there is something in the phone's settings? Anything at all would be nice.
Thank you,
Jack2402 =)
If you boot into the boot loader (turn off device and hold power and vol down) it should say s on or s off. That's the best way to tell, you are looking for s off. Moonshine will get you unlocked and s off though really easily

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't you telling me how to unlock saftey? Isn't that different from unlocking the SIM so I can flash it Pageplus? Or am I confused. Forgive me, I've rooted several phones and I've flashed one phone but I've never had to unlock one because I usually purchase them from sellers who already know there're unlocked.

Moonshine unlocked the bootloader, not the SIM. Two completely different concepts.

Sorry didn't realize you were talking about carrier unlocking. I don't know anything about that. Sorry

I find that hard to believe seeing that Verizon locks EVERYTHING up so tightly.

It's sim unlocked. Your best bet is to wait for your sim to arrive put it in and just change the apn settings to match page plus to get mms. Once you do that you should be good to go.
As for flashing and rooting it's actually easy thanks to beaups and the moonshine process he created for getting s off.
Head over to the development section and it's stickeyed
Run moonshine and follow the easy steps and you will get an s off phone and unlocked bootloader. After that load a custom recovery and then back up with a nandroid backup and flash any rom or kernel of your choosing.
If you need any help with that feel free to PM me and I will be happy to help you.

Actually, for the last year or so, every LTE device that I've been aware of from VZW has come SIM unlocked, included DNA and Iphone 5. I think VZW isn't too afraid of people leaving, and if they do, they have a nasty ETF they can hit you with. And ding your credit if you don't pay it. And if you already have bad credit, then VZW already has a hefty deposit. So, yeah.

THANK YOU!!! Fair warning, whenever my SIM card gets here I will probably take you up on your offer. I've been through a lot of this stuff with my Bionic (that phone was a nightmare to flash carriers) but I could definitely use a little help!

It's not quite that easy to get mms working. Verizon's stock ROM uses a whitelist for APN types and will not allow a MMS APN at all, you can enter the settings but they will be lost and MMS will NOT work, spent 2 hours on the phone with AT&T support working on this very issue.
If you're going to use the DNA on a GSM carrier for daily use, it's best to flash something like NOS M7 GSM version as this will allow the proper APN to be set up and mms will work. Once I switched to a ROM meant for GSM carriers, I have found MMS to be 100% reliable.

Actually, Pageplus is CDMA, not GSM. Would that make a difference?

It probably would, yes. You threw me off when you said:

Not really sure HOW it works with pageplus. Sorry for the confusion.

Yeah, I see. No, what I meant about the AT&T SIM card was that people use differing carrier SIMs to find out if their phone is unlocked. I didn't want to wait on eBay to send me an AT&T SIM to see if my Verizon is unlocked.

You will need to do some digging to find a guide (or pay for a service) to flash it to PagePlus. The ability to flash from Verizon to PagePlus is unrelated to the locked status of the SIM slot. I believe you will only get 3G on PagePlus, as well.
Yes, the SIM slot is unlocked for use on GSM carriers, but that won't matter if you're looking to flash to PagePlus.

Yeah, I flashed my Bionic to PPC myself using CDMA Workshop but never got better than 1x data. I'll probably end up paying $60 to have it flashed remotely if I can't find someone who can help me one-on-one because the threads I've read go on for days and never seem to end =/

I find it hard to believe that some DNA users such as yourself are still unaware after owning the phone that its called a Global Phone for a reason.

Not sure if this is the right thread to put this, but I just wanna report that my N900V is now rooted and unlocked, following root-de-la-vega - reboot a 2-3 times - install regionlockaway.apk - reboot 2-3 times again
I'm now using it with my straight talk at&t 4g lte sim card.
I agree with the comments above the title is misleading and should be moved to "General" as this form of Root has already been released and discussed by the Developer that discovered it> credit should go to designgears. As for Unlocked this is confusing and misleading as how it is stated in title of thread, as there is a difference between a Modem or SIM unlock vs a Bootloader Unlock. I think while it is safe to say, considering we have a Bounty running in the General section that has been there for quite some time, the method of Unlock we are mainly most interested in is a Bootloader Unlock, therefore using the words Unlock in the Title should have been done more tastefully> OP welcome to XDA!
Interesting

The Verizon note 3 is factory unlocked already. There's really no need to pay for it to be unlocked. I inserted my wife's T-Mobile prepaid Sim card in and got signal. Of course I was only able to get G instead of their 3G/4G. Works for AT&T as well.

that's true if you got it activated first with Verizon, from my reading the net, it'd be locked unless it's first activated with the intended provider (Verizon), my problem was I could not get it activated with Verizon so I had to those things and seems to work now.

the phone is unlocked but no the bootloader, you need to clearly state region free instead of unlocked.
When you switch sim does your phone number change as well or just data?

First off I am on my dads cell phone plan and am not paying anything a month for it so I dont want to switch to t mobile but the att version has a locked bootloader so here I am. So for my first question, how hard is it to unlock one of these phones? Then once its unlocked, will it get worse service then the att version? Can this unlocked phone tether like the way a stock t mobile one can? Is there any other down side to getting an unlocked phone vs stock att other then the unlocked would have tmobile on it instead of att and root access right way. thanks for any help and if I posted this in the wrong thread, im sorry.
Has the Verizon CDMA version been bootloader unlocked or rooted yet anyone? I have 2 brand new ones in the box. Also has anyone activated this directly on straight talk? Not talking about the sim swap.
There are a bunch of topics about this in the General forum.
Verizon model is currently bootloader locked, but jcase & crew bought some from the $10 sale and might work on getting it unlocked.
Kingroot can give temp root, but /system remains read-only.
Should be able to use it on ST, just be sure to remove and trash the pre-installed Verizon Prepaid SIM inside the phones before you turn them on for the first time.
Also, depending on which network your ST SIM is riding on, you might have to switch the phone from LTE/CDMA Mode (for Verizon) to LTE/GSM Mode (for AT&T/TMO). Follow the instructions in the topic in the General forum.
