[REBEL] Rebelling from Google's Flagship ( Pixel ).!!! - Nexus 6P General

Hi I'm absolutely new to these forums but have owned nexus phones since the nexus 5. And the sole reason I left other OEMs is the software availability with fast updates. And that's how it's been these past few years. ... And now I just bought the Nexus 6P from moving in from Nexus 6. And I've read that Google is abandoning it's nexus lines on certain EOL dates and unfortunately nexus 6P isn't so far away.
But it isn't what has me mad. It's the fact that nexus devices are not going to receive fast updates anymore or receive the same treatment the Pixel phones are going to get ( updates )... I can care less about Google exclusive features for the Pixel but don't delay our updates. Especially when we bought our phones cause of this reason ... Not a lot of people can afford to buy a new phone every year. So I don't want Google to do us dirty.
So if you agree with me and don't agree with Google's decision then let's rebel and refuse to buy Google's Flagship and comment showing your ideas and support... let's start putting some control in consumers hands.

My plan is,
I will buy 2nd hand 128GB XL next year.

I'm sitting on my Nexus 6P for one more year, then I think I'm going for the 10th anniversary iPhone.
Getting a bit sick and tired of Google's shenanigans after six years with Android.

Im Back to 6P a week ago before this bad news because this phone is great. I would like stay with him for next year and abandon android.

Just got my 6P a month ago. I will keep it for as long as it will work. Later on probably either get a 2nd hand Pixel XL or as I did with this 6P , I will get a new PIXEL XL when the next phone on that line will be released.
As of now, Google has become Apple #2 for me.

Same here. I mean I see no reason to switch my device of practically the same one i've already got. So I guess I'll either get me a used one for a cheap price OR, get a bran new one as I did with the 6P , like a Month or two before the new PIXEL XL will be launched.

I would love to own a new pixel xl but i cant justify the price. Ill stick with my 6p as it is the best phone ive ever owned. Maybe next years gPhone, if they learn their lesson.

Google is getting worse than Apple. It'd be nice to know if you could buy one device and it get timely stock Android updates for years. Old iPhones still getting updates, albeit they might be missing some features.

That is completely unfair to Apple. Their hardware is gorgeous and robust, and the software just works (as long as you only use it as "uncle Steve" intended) and is, usually, far far more polished than anything available on Android. Case in point - the gyro and compass. Why do I need to manually recalibrate the compass on all Android phones I have ever owned to have the arrow pointing in the direction I am facing? And why do I never need to do this on my wife's iPhone, going back to at least one day he iPhone 3? Why do so many of us install the ios emojis over the grossly ugly ones from Google? These may seem like small things but they are part of the overall user experience.
Google is far more like Microsoft from the late 90s than Apple. Me too approaches, rough around the edges, and best suited for the pocket protector crowd that is willing to deal with the occasional BSOD for the sake of the ability to dink around.

Google are like a "beta" company. Scrapping hangouts for Allo and Duo is crazy as well it all feels very rough around the edges and scattergunned. I mean having Allo and Duo locked to one device.... WTF?!

I'm passing on pixel and if Google continues to dink around I'll either move to another Android maker or go back to Apple.

Hopefully, yeah. Depends also if we get the whole 8 then 8.1 on the Pixel 2.

I cannot believe how pissed everyone is over this. You all act like Google has 7.1 complete for this phone and they're just not sending because of pixel. I highly doubt it's complete....it's not done and it might not be done because of pixel but who cares. Didn't we just get 7.0? We need major updates monthly now? Everyone is talking about going to Apple, go for it, if you don't end up back on Android I'd be surprised. I recently bought my wife and iPad pro for her birthday, it froze twice during setup....it doesn't "just work" any better than Android and it's boring as hell. The screen on my phone seems 100x better than it is on the iPad. If you want Apple to keep updating your four year old device making it unusable that's up to you.

Still debating a Nexus 9!

Hey so I've read up a lot on the Nexus 9 (been debating to get it since before christmas) and whenever I go to Best Buy I check it out and I'm still strongly debating getting one. I have the money for it no problem but my problem is if something better is right around the corner? I could really use a tablet, I miss having a tablet for multiple reasons every day. Since switching to Android I just can't bare pulling out an old iPad - I was glad to be out of the Apple ecosystem a good 8 or so months ago and I don't want to have anything to do with it again.
Does anyone know if a new premium Android tablet is around the corner? Is their anything better than a Nexus 9 right now? I know about the Shield Tablet but it doesn't seem to be faring any better and I want a tablet to be a tablet, not a slightly bigger than a phablet, tablet. Otherwise I would've bought a Nexus 6 instead of an S6 Edge and use it for everything.
Thanks in advance, just want to hear some opinions and get some insight!

I'm worried about them unveiling a new tablet at Google I/O. This isn't a cheap tablet and if they unveil a new one a month or two after I buy a Nexus 9 I'll be insanely pissed lol. Was the Nexus 7 not announced right after Google I/O last year?
if something in the back of your head is talking you out of it.. then wait. and frankly you can pick up a windows 8.1 for less cost. that said.. there are things like using ezpdf, SW-KOTOR, or Tapatalk over the browser version of forums like this, that make it so much more appealing.. its time to break out a piece a paper and make a pro/con list.
announced, and actually being sold are two different things.. the N9 was never really announced, it was preceded by so many inaccurate rumors I became very pissed with all of the clickbait droid news sites around October of last year.

Sorry but I disagree. The idea that a newer and better product will never come around is crazy talk. The phone / tablet market is completely built around the idea of something better always coming around to get people to desire something else. I bought my Droid Turbo right after the Nexus 6 came out so I could do a side by side. It wasn't that long afterward that the G4 and S6 were out. Something is always coming around the corner.

I'd get a Windows 8.1 device for cheap if I knew it would actually work well enough for me. I have a good laptop but it weighs a ton so I only ever use it for work as a "portable desktop." I'm just tired of sitting down and wanting to browse the web, watch Youtube/Netflix etc on a tiny phone screen but I'm not sure if that justifies a cost of almost $500 for the 16GB version of the Nexus 9.

I just don't want a new Nexus tablet coming out that has less problems for around the same price with a revised magic cover or something within a few months. There isn't always something better around the corner (for me) because I bought an S6 Edge knowing it was exactly what I want until a better phone of it's caliber comes out. Yes, the G4 is coming out in June but to me it isn't nearly as good as my S6.
There's always something new coming out but not necessarily better for your tastes. I'm just trying to avoid that as a $500 tablet is a pretty decent purchase and I don't want it to be a bad one.
picked up a Toshiba 10" tablet with win 8.1. it does the basics, and then some.. can't play new games, but it is an Atom chip, didn't expect to.
for YouTube, Netflix, VLC. it works very good. the one I got only has 1G of ram, look around, you can find a much higher spec win 8.1 at the same price googleHTC want for the N9
is the N9 and its being left behind by its makers making me regret my purchase? yeah, kinda.

If they introduce a new one then you sell it and take a $50 loss. So you got to play around with the 9 for four months for $50 look at it that way.

I do thank my N9 for one thing. I've learned my next tablet will also be a 4:3. I'd love the N9 a lot more if it didn't have an nVidia chip in it. Hopefully Google learns a lesson from this whole thing.
There are so many other issues, the back, the display, the display flickering, the sharp edges, that make holding the device really uncomfortable, etc. The n9 is just an expensive disaster. I would not buy it again, but think about getting a cheap Galaxy tab 3 and installing cyanogenmod.

Unconfirmed: 7.1 Nougat may not be released for 6P until 2017

Google has informed us that before the end of the calendar quarter (aka before 2017), Nexus devices and the Pixel C will receive a developer preview for Android 7.1 Nougat. It's unclear which Nexus devices will receive it, but the 6P and 5X definitely will, and the 6 and 9 might.

The only thing wrong?
REALLY?
I bought a 6P because i like having the latest version of Android and I also develop on it. And because google promised it (which turns out as false advertising, at this point)
What now? Will be only 7.1 delayed or every release? We will see another major upgrade?
By what I saw today, google's intentions are not anymore in the nexus line, so I can't even expect another major version of Android this time around.
Google may haven't lost money, but they surely lost a lot of customers trust. And trust isn't easy to build.
But it seems they couldn't care less.

Couldn't agree more. At this point I'm just convinced that Google is lost. They are trying so hard to re-invent themselves as some kind of Apple/Samsung/Amazon Wannabe that they have screwed everything up. I mean come on, Pixel EXCLUSIVE features? Seriously? Delayed releases for the Nexus Line?
Google you have just lost a customer today. My wife and kids wanted to move away from iPhone, and I was hoping for the Pixel to do so, but there's no way. I'm not even sure where to go now. I hate TouchWiz, I want a phone I can unlock the boot loader on, root, etc. Maybe the LG V20 will turn out better, but it's been MIA now for weeks.
I didn't realize until today how high of standards I hold my 6P too, and how I'll not be able to move away until something truly amazing comes along (and I'm really hung up on having front facing stereo speakers now)

Yup. I started android with HTC. Was burned with promised OS updates on the Hero, gave them a second chance and was burned again with promised OS updates on the Evo LTE, jumped to Nexus to avoid having that issue ever again and here I am wondering when we are going to get updates and what "features" are they going to withhold for no reason other than greed.

The Nexus is dead, long live the Pixel? (The future of Google)

Like many of you, I was extremely disappointed to see what Google had to show us last night!
With the Pixel as the new Google phone and Google's decision to discontinue the Nexus series, Google clearly wants to appeal more to the masses, while it also means that the Nexus owners probably will experience less support from Google, primarily in terms of the lag of software updates...
This leaves a few questions I find it interesting to discuss; What will the future bring for Google, will they finally be a competitor to Apple and what will happen to the existing Nexus phones, will we be left in the dark?
This thread is meant to be a place to discuss and a place ti share your frustrations/excitement!
1,2,3... Go!
Pixel will be dead in few months, lets see what google will cook next.
Personally, after many years, I'm done with google.
Although I also think it's very likely there will be no more Nexus phones (though there are rumors of another Nexus tablet), has Google outright said there won't be any more?
I could imagine/hope that next year they reveal another Nexus device (maybe in the spring), then another Pixel device in the fall. They'd have the best of both worlds at that point. Nexus for the android enthusiasts, and Pixel for... the "former Apple enthusiasts and now Google enthusiasts"?
I don't know... that's just what I hope. All I know now is that I'm not switching from my 6P for a while.

But you don't get the Siri clone, or the 24 hour customer support with screen sharing.
Personally , At the moment, I don't see myself spending that pile of money for the new Pixel. Already been saying that today. Sound outrageous to me to pay at least 650$ for a 5" device with quicker shutter speed and an additional 1G of RAM.
I guess Google is moving towards the masses and the "iPhone look a like" crowed.
As for OS updates, since there aren't any other devices that are likely to get any faster updates, I'll stick with my 6P for as long as it will be alive.
Unfortunately I believe the Pixel line will succeed , eventually.
Nexus Not Dead.
I'll probably buy Pixel only after some price cuts.
Hopefully Google will realize their big mistake and revive the Nexus!ftw!
The only way these will sell well is if they push them out to all the carriers who push the cost to monthly installments. They also are going to have to spend a lot on an advertising campaign so the general public has any idea about the pixel. Maybe that's what they're going for this time. Otherwise, slash the prices by $200 to make it appealing at all to the Nexus crowd.
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
I would enjoy the new pixel XL phone cause the bluetooth issues on my 6P drives me nuts. but theres no 64GB option at all. so either 32 or 128. and I will not pay $860 for a phone. I will wait until the price drops considerably before i consider buying the pixel. I suppose google decided that they had to retire the Nexus name if they wanted to start charging a grand for a phone. Nexus is supposed to be the "affordable" phone.
Honestly I'm pretty tilted, not just over what Google cooked up for us during last nights stream, but also their decision to kill Nexus as well. What good will this bring to them? All it's doing is alienate their customers even more. I understand that us enthusiasts are the 1% of the 1% but Google killing off their Nexus line and going for a more closed, more proprietary Android device with their Pixel line is not only going to make things harder for ROM/root devs but also sway away customers on Nexus for two things: price and customisation. At this point I might as well just get an iPhone and jailbreak, considering the fact that not only is the Pixel literally the same price as the iPhone, but also the fact that jailbreak does just as much these days, actually more, I can still use Apple Pay with a jailbreak.
What are you doing Google.
Hope things go better with the Pixel 2 or whatever the next phone in line is called.
I don't care about the nexus termination tbh. Though I did buy the 6p partly because its a nexus, it was never a deciding factor. Brand loyalty shouldn't be a thing now in 2016 since no company gives a crap about old customers anymore. If google wants to position itself as a premium phone brand then so be it, it just means that I wont be touching a pixel or any phone >$600. Have always bought products that make my money go the furthest taking quality, features and my needs into account. Its gonna be a tough day when the above-mentioned lead me away from Google products but it won't ultimately change my decision. For now the 6p still looks to have a good year or 2 for me until the tech evolves more

You're spot on, to me XDA is about taking the mainstream and hacking and modding it for the enthusiasts, it's no fun if the devices are pre modded
I will buy 2nd hand 128GB XL next year.
I really hope the nexus is not dead. One the other hand if they market right and sell a lot of pixel devices uses will have proper android devices. A lot of I phone uses can't stand Samsung. They form their opinion a of android as Samsung. And honestly Samsung android ( touchwiz) is a bad example of the great system we here at XDA love
Well the nexus line might be dead but to me it doesn't mean "long live the new PIXEL king".
I don't see the PIXEL especially the XL device becoming a huge sales item.
It will at most be a niche device, losing the developers community.
Change this thread title to "The Pixel is dead DOA, and long live the Nexus spirit!"
I Love the Nexus Line and personally Nexus isn't Dead for me!
I hope Google will Launch the Google Assistant on Nexus, too. If Not, I hope the Great XDA Community will bring the Google Assistant or the whole Pixel System to our Nexus devices.
Yes the tittle should be the pixel already dead, long live the nexus

Why I Got A 2nd Nexus 6P...

So something was on my mind and I thought I would spill on XDA...
Im a phone junkie. Ive probably had most major flagship devices pass through my hands. But theres something about the 6P.
6 Months ago in May i got my first 6p. I am also a guy who has 2 phones. One to tinker and one to have as my daily driver. The year before i had bought a Moto X Style and I loved the device. Was bloody amazing! But the battery life didnt do it for me so decided to look to the future and went with a Nexus 6P. At that time my daily driver was the S7 Edge.
So August rolls around and the Note 7 is announced & released. The UK got it 2 weeks later than the US. Unfortunately I got rid of my S7 Edge for it while keeping my Nexus 6P. I was one of the unlucky people who got a Note 7 before it was recalled and subsequently had my Note 7 almost blow up on me. I got a replacement and very quickly I saw the Note 7 had been discontinued and the device had to be returned In replacement, I got a Iphone 7 256Gb which I lasted 36 hours with before I couldnt take it anymore and traded it to CEX.
So with my favourite series of devices recalled and with my change to a device that I couldnt get on with, I was in open market to buy a new phone. I had the choice between anything that CEX had Android wise. They even had a Moto Z on the day I went to see them, but heres why i decided to buy the Nexus 6P in 128Gb while still having my 32 Gb edtion.

These devices to me are still relevant in the market and im not bothered about the SD810 issues. My devices never run that hot. Plus add in the fact that I get unlimited tethering, these devices for me are why I love android. These kill the Iphone IMHO.
Congratz, one for each hand! they are classics!
I read the title and i was like "Well do enlighten me, why do you have two nexus 6P".
Not disappointed.
I actually though of a Samsung S7 when I went to buy my 6P, but the screensize wasn't what I expected (I wanted a bigger screen and the edges took some space off it one way or another), ended up with the 6P which was always my first considered choice.
I gotta ask though, why do you say the Note 7 almost blew up on you? Did you experience any problems that would suggest that would happen?

Not disappointed.
I actually though of a Samsung S7 when I went to buy my 6P, but the screensize wasn't what I expected (I wanted a bigger screen and the edges took some space off it one way or another), ended up with the 6P which was always my first considered choice.
I gotta ask though, why do you say the Note 7 almost blew up on you? Did you experience any problems that would suggest that would happen?

Long story but....
My N7 died on me randomly while i was using it... The software died. I tried flashing Custom Rom Nothing... TWRP would boot but would freeze
Used kies to restore software, but even that didnt work. My device then began emitting a burning smell. I managed to power down the device and make it safe..
I sent it Sammie after they got in contact with me, they sent out another device. Then the full recall happened a second time. I almost ended up like all those other devices you see burned out.
FWIW I call them the twins xd
First off, let me say I am a phone addict. Haha. In the last 11 months I have owned 4 Nexus 6P's. I keep coming back to them. Right now I have one along with my S7 edge. If the edge was a bit smoother, especially with a SD820, it would be a near perfect phone.

I had a Note7 when it first launched and was very disappointed when I had to return it due to the recall. The one I received got so hot to the touch when charging I didn't want to take the chance of it exploding. I loved the phone but I went and got a 7 Plus as my personal phone instead. But I missed android and having owned and returned a Nexus 6P for the Note7 I decided I wanted it back. So when it came time to choose a work phone it was no question that I went for a 6P. The stock android experience is the best and I didn't realize how much I missed it until I got the 6P back in my hands.

I am thinking about 2nd hand Samsung S7, HTC 10 , OnePlus 3 , Pixel XL.
(I think my 6P battery start degraded.)
Its just an amazing device
I have an S7 Edge also and keep going back to the 6P. I love the screen on the S7E but the curved screen I keep touching with my fingers holding it and stuff goes haywire, It's maddening. I don't find the battery life on the S7E that great (as some do). I'm not a heavy user so it bothers me to drop 50-60% during the day when I've done virtually nothing with the device but some hangouts messages, texts and a couple conf calls. It will last all day, just bothers me draining that much with little use
I'm actually thinking of getting a second one. Maybe a 128gb version this time. I just look at the new pixel and I'm not excited. I was more intrigued by the HTC 10 to be honest.

With the Pixels system software now available on the 6P and 7.1.1 running much better than 7.0 ,i find very little reason to splash out $1000 on a Pixel. The 6P is still very flagship at the end of 2016, it's still good for another year. If it had OIS it'd be perfect.

Hi guys,
This is my short story why I buy my a second Nexus 6P.
I killed my old Nexus 6P with 128gb in Turkey and I was from end January until August in Turkey. When I was back I think which phone I should buy. My favorites are the HTC 10 (HTC Boy since HTC Desire => M9, Oneplus3 and the Nexus 6p. OnePlus have no AOSP, the HTC 10 los the beautiful design with the fingerprint sensor at the front. Than I remember my old Nexus 6P and the nice community (thanks to all devs). Now I have bought a new Nexus 6P with 64Gb. Maybe next year a new HTC with fingerprint sensor on the back or the Pixel

When to move on...

If you had the money to get a new phone moving from the Nexus 6p. Would you go ahead and get a better phone or would you pay to get the screen repaired. Deciding to keep the phone instead. The community here, while it's been amazing seems to be dying as more devs and users alike move on to OP3T or Pixel. I'm seriously thinking about dropping down $459 for a OP3T. If you had the money would you go ahead and move to another phone?

Personally I don't like Pixel. It's mostly on principle--to me its the device that killed the Nexus line (and not by competing but just because Google decided to.)
Beyond that I don't know that the price tag justifies upgrading. Bump in hardware, but no stereo speakers and in terms of real performance I don't think the user is gaining much if he drops the 6p for Pixel. Of course this is just what Ive read but for the price difference Id want more.
I'm not really seeing the developer scene die the way you describe. Feels like Ive got more good choices in roms & kernels than I need.
If I were going to buy a new phone I might take a closer look at the OPO 3T. But Im happy with the 6p for now.
Oh no I never meant to postulate that I was upset with the Nexus 6P line. There have been a lot of issues lately with the hardware that have caused countless others to have bootloops and then faulty battery issue drains that have to be fixed by RMAing. Hoping to god you get back a phone of equal use. I have read that one user had such a problem. He sent in 6 6p's and they all had the same exact issue every time. This of course sounds absurd and highly inaccurate. I made my decision as I'm going go keep my 6p. I'm taking it to get the screen fixed tomorrow.

every device has life cycles, im sure as the device ages and price drops it'll be a very popular dev device because its a fairly high spec nexus device. a lot of popular devs buy almost every new device they like as it comes out. i wont be upgrading my 6p for another year or two, its very fast with f2fs and the other phones out atm arent a major improvement.
From one 6p user to another. Do you have any ideas where I can find a sturdy, streamlined case that protects both the glass and phone. I have a case, but it's rather bulky. I was using a skin when my phone shattered.

I just paid the deductible to have my phone replaced ($79). I think Huawei charges about double that for a screen replacement.
When Nexus Protect expires. I plan to pay the $140 for SquareTrade.
The 6p is long from outdated.
I believe that you should get a new phone between every 2-3 years.
On the status of my current 6P, or past devices, I've never damaged one of them before. My 6P did go dead once though... ?

I am looking for some new phone too.
(Also need some official custom ROMs like RR etc. on that phone.)
This may work!
I bought this one with a tempered glass protector. Not too bulky and comes up over the edges of the glass. It has worked for me so far.

I'm saving money to join op3t users. I'm really disappointed from Huawei support and I want to leave this device as soon as possible
I'm finding it difficult to leave the 6P. I used to be the guy that updated every yr but with the 6P I don't have that desire. It still feels snappy (most of the time) and it is very difficult for me to give up the stereo speakers. I don't know if I can go back to non-stock android. The camera speed was an issue for me but when I installed the Camera NX mod, it def made it more snappy. I'll reconsider again when I see what the Pixel 2 has to offer because the Pixel was not worthwhile for me, especially at that price but for now I am staying put.

I agree, while it may not be the nicest hardware, it is an all around solid performer and was a good price.
I have a few qualms with it, but in general I've been happy with it for sure. Definitely the best nexus phone that was released, especially when you factor in everything together.
I just bought a 6p, off of swappa so I hope development continues for long long time. I have now the ls990 lg g3, & there's a handful of ROMs, & back when the nexus 5 came out I had that, & development is still going on for that. So I am not worried. I know I'll never again touch an lg device, problems several times. So I can't wait for 6p to ship to me.

I just ordered a new phone, it's time to leave this stupid phone and sell it till it's still alive. I experienced the bootloop of death after 6 months i bought the phone, I "enjoyed" a really bad battery life and a really really bad support from Huawei. My phone has been in assistance for 3 months and i own it since 12... 25% of the time i used my old nexus 5. Is this a good experience? I don't think so! Huawei and Google are not going to see my money again. Enjoy your phone guys and remember, you will have problems with this phone, don't think you are immune.
Once the Pixel 2 xl or the pixel 2 xxl (since rumor of a third larger model) comes out I'll switch...

I use the Seidio Convert with a tempered glass screen protector. It's really solid and clean. Doesn't look like a suit of armor or something.
