I would like to have this on my phone, github /pelya/android-keyboard-gadget and it says that I need to compile the kernel myself. I am not sure how to do this, as in where to find the correct files for my phone (SM-A300FU).
Thank you.

Hi,
I am trying to build the Motorola Photon 4G kernel and maybe ROM from source code. Can anyone help me get started?
With the great help from this forum, this is what I have so far:
- unlocked bootloader
- ClockworkMod recovery installed
- root access
I found the source code was released here:
I come from Samsung so I have downloaded the CodeSourcery toolchain for arm 2009q3.
With the samsung phones we needed the initramfs from the original kernel. Does anyone know how I can extract this out for the photon?
Also the build procedure for the samsungs were:
1) make clean
2) config ***_config
3) make modules
4) make
Is this the same for the moto? What is the config name I should call (step 2)?
If anyone knows of a post that already explains this please refer me. If not, I promise to document what I learn here to share.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello Everyone,
I am trying to learn how to port CM12 to my I717 and there are many threads on XDA that provide a lot of information on how to port a ROM from source. However, I am stuck as place and can't figure out what to do, so please excuse my lack of knowledge and please guide me through this process.
First I started following this thread to do the porting. It has an excellent walk through, but somewhere I missed a step and can't f figure out how to handle it.
forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=40003302&postcount=2&nocache=1
I am lost at the Device Source instructions provided in Step Two (2). What should my command line for I717.
Second, I realized that when I did the Repo Sync for CM12, I remember that I Sycn in the ./CM12/ folder, however, all the folders are downloaded in the home folder.
Whatever the reason, I screwed up somwherre. Can I move all the folders to the CM12 folder, if so how? Would it be better if I delete all the Sync folders in the home location and re sync in the CM12 folder?. I prefer that I do it the second method, but not sure which folders to delete and how to do that?
I am using Ubuntu (Please note that I am new to Linux, But willing to learn).
I would kindly request you to please help me learn by providing step by step instructions.
Thank you for your time to help me with this issue.

Set up your build environment. This link is tailored to our Note-1, not a generic "insert_your_device_here" recipe for destruction. Slap JamieD's "thanks" button while you're at it.
Build CM10.2 or CM11 first, to get the hang of it.
I've attempted to build CM12 on my own. My conclusion is that unless you're willing to re-write about half the CM source code from the ground up, CM12 isn't going to happen for us. Android 4.3 and above were extreme hack/hatchet jobs for both the Note-1 and the Skyrocket (they're sister devices). CM-11 almost didn't happen at all; it took us nearly six months to get a reliably working CM-11 build.
Indeed, CM-12 isn't happening for a LOT of devices, this "early" in the game.

Hi Guys
I have posted in the Galaxy A forums, but no one could help me.
I really liked CM11 and I am trying to build it for my device, Samsung A500FU.
I followed this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-fame/general/guide-how-to-build-cm11-local-sources-t2875919
And Ive downloaded all the source code etc, but I am stuck at the last step. It does not want to build the rom.
I think my local manifest might be the problem
Here are the sources:
https://github.com/search?utf8=✓&q=a500fu
Can someone please help me with the correct local manifest file and build command etc.
Thank you.
My roommate is going to begin working on getting this device rooted. He told me to do that he needs the uncompiled kernel and source code (I believe, if that doesn't make sense please correct me). I have rooted my phone before by myself so I have a little experience, and can get temp root so far on the phone. Would anyone know how to acquire what he needs? I have the device in question and I'm not afraid to risk breaking it to get this done.
Also if anyone has any general advice I can pass along to him please let me know. Thank you!
TL;DR
Friend needs source code for Samsung Galaxy J3 to work on custom rom/kernel. Where/how to acquire this?
Here are the source manifests for msm platform. Choose msm8916_64

Here is the repo instructions.

Here is the closest kernel sources I could find.

Good luck.
I think this is what we need, I forwarded him those links and will find out probably tomorrow if they are what he was looking for (but from the sound of things it should be). I can't say thank you enough! I had -no- idea where to even start looking!
any news?

We have a working permanent root at this moment but no custom ROM yet. Here's the link to the root thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=66423732#post66423732

Guide For Root
HELLO XDA COMMUNITY ^^
I've just registered to the forum, hoping this is the right place to post a NOOB QUESTION
I'm struggling on building a Kernel from github, but more precisely it seems that i cant grasp some concept
I'm trying to build a MTK kernel from github source.
So i downloaded kernel-devicetree-vendor zip files.
I think i understand that i can build just the kernel and not the entire rom..so
QUESTION : DO I HAVE TO MERGE VENDOR-DEVICETREE-KERNEL ON SAME FOLDER AND BUILD?OR WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?
im trying to build "android_kernel_jiayu_s3plus_n560a-n-7.1.2" on ubuntu 64 bit machine,
as i understand device tree and vendor are important configs related to specific device..but i cant find some info for build just the kernel without downloading all ROM/AOSP sources ..OR MAYBE I JUST DONT UNDERSTAND HOW IT WORKS.:silly:
This is my first android kernel im trying to build,im able to compile kernel for my machine, but im studying my way to it,so maybe i miss some info from building linux kernel for desktop as well. I've read abount how to install kernel, unpack repack boot.img for MTK devices here on xda..but im stuck on compiling!
Im feeling that im missing something HUGE
Hope someone would explain to me just a bit or maybe pointing me to the right direction..
THANKS ALL AND THANKS XDA FORUM
