HELLO XDA COMMUNITY ^^
I've just registered to the forum, hoping this is the right place to post a NOOB QUESTION
I'm struggling on building a Kernel from github, but more precisely it seems that i cant grasp some concept
I'm trying to build a MTK kernel from github source.
So i downloaded kernel-devicetree-vendor zip files.
I think i understand that i can build just the kernel and not the entire rom..so
QUESTION : DO I HAVE TO MERGE VENDOR-DEVICETREE-KERNEL ON SAME FOLDER AND BUILD?OR WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?
im trying to build "android_kernel_jiayu_s3plus_n560a-n-7.1.2" on ubuntu 64 bit machine,
as i understand device tree and vendor are important configs related to specific device..but i cant find some info for build just the kernel without downloading all ROM/AOSP sources ..OR MAYBE I JUST DONT UNDERSTAND HOW IT WORKS.:silly:
This is my first android kernel im trying to build,im able to compile kernel for my machine, but im studying my way to it,so maybe i miss some info from building linux kernel for desktop as well. I've read abount how to install kernel, unpack repack boot.img for MTK devices here on xda..but im stuck on compiling!
Im feeling that im missing something HUGE
Hope someone would explain to me just a bit or maybe pointing me to the right direction..
THANKS ALL AND THANKS XDA FORUM

Hello everyone. Im a computer engineer in the making. I have programming knowledge, and was interested in trying my hand at kernels since its the basic interaction with the h/w modules. andy, franco and mik are inspirations. Especially franco's kernel makes such huge performance upgrade,so want to learn. Can anyone pls gimme advice where to begin? I searched a little, but Im not sure if our phone has any specifics? which ubuntu version is recommended?
Thanks
The subject says most of it.
I would like to start learning how to compile ROMs but I don't know where to start. I figured the biggest Android developer site might yield some useful input from the more experienced developers.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Compile JB on Ubuntu
Compile ICS on Ubuntu
Compile GB on Ubuntu
Thank you for the information.
I would like to have this on my phone, github /pelya/android-keyboard-gadget and it says that I need to compile the kernel myself. I am not sure how to do this, as in where to find the correct files for my phone (SM-A300FU).
Thank you.
Hi
I was wondering if someone of You could give me some advices about building the device, vendor and kernel tree. I tried with info found in google, but it seems not to work good. Well it doesn't work at all. I searched xda, but no-one gave precise answer. It would be really nice if there had been some answers
I really count on You, Devs
Thanks in advance
Hey i would like to start building my own custom kernel for my s8 g950f (exynos ) , which is the best guide to begin? i do have windows 10 pro 64bit with vm and kali linux 64bit installed, i do have like 40 gb free on vm . so i think i am almost ready , i tried some research on google and xda too but i see a lot of guides. And i am confused because there are multiple ways to build one . Everyone is using different toolchain , there i am confused too .. If someone like to help me please quote down . thanks
Someone want to help me ?
I know might that section is not right to write that post, but on my device forum nobody I think would respond. So I decided to write here generally for someone to provide some first info and if he want to help me developming that kernel that would be great. So any any info you could give me would be very appreciated.
