Hi
I was wondering if someone of You could give me some advices about building the device, vendor and kernel tree. I tried with info found in google, but it seems not to work good. Well it doesn't work at all. I searched xda, but no-one gave precise answer. It would be really nice if there had been some answers
I really count on You, Devs
Thanks in advance

Hello
Thanks to Xda member ShinySide we have a root solution for our device and thanks to ashyx and Xperianoobie we have a recovery.
In order to get some custom roms, we need to build the device tree but we dont know how, so if any devs would be willing to help us out with this we would be very grateful!
Or if someone wants to build a Cm rom for this device that would be awesome!
Device is the A7 SM-A700F exynos version
Latest official firmware: 5.0.2
Thanking you in advance
Jay
Bump?
I tried converting Galaxy Alpha Device tree to a7alte. But it's really hard. Didn't work.
Building ROMS won't be a problem, but I need a device tree. Can't find anything for the a7alte on Github or something. Really irritating.
Thank you for all your efforts!
Let's hope a dev will see this thread and help out.

My roommate is going to begin working on getting this device rooted. He told me to do that he needs the uncompiled kernel and source code (I believe, if that doesn't make sense please correct me). I have rooted my phone before by myself so I have a little experience, and can get temp root so far on the phone. Would anyone know how to acquire what he needs? I have the device in question and I'm not afraid to risk breaking it to get this done.
Also if anyone has any general advice I can pass along to him please let me know. Thank you!
TL;DR
Friend needs source code for Samsung Galaxy J3 to work on custom rom/kernel. Where/how to acquire this?
Here are the source manifests for msm platform. Choose msm8916_64

Here is the repo instructions.

Here is the closest kernel sources I could find.

Good luck.
I think this is what we need, I forwarded him those links and will find out probably tomorrow if they are what he was looking for (but from the sound of things it should be). I can't say thank you enough! I had -no- idea where to even start looking!

We have a working permanent root at this moment but no custom ROM yet. Here's the link to the root thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=66423732#post66423732

Guide For Root
Hi,
I'm building a custom rom (aosp) for my device(j5 2016) and although I have had moderate success I want to enable VoLTE on the device. What files should I modify to get this feature? I'm new at this.
I have already tried asking on the device specific forum and the devs there either don't know how to or are unwilling to help. I have also tried searching but couldn't find any thing. If I have missed something please give me the link.
Thanks
HELLO XDA COMMUNITY ^^
I've just registered to the forum, hoping this is the right place to post a NOOB QUESTION
I'm struggling on building a Kernel from github, but more precisely it seems that i cant grasp some concept
I'm trying to build a MTK kernel from github source.
So i downloaded kernel-devicetree-vendor zip files.
I think i understand that i can build just the kernel and not the entire rom..so
QUESTION : DO I HAVE TO MERGE VENDOR-DEVICETREE-KERNEL ON SAME FOLDER AND BUILD?OR WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?
im trying to build "android_kernel_jiayu_s3plus_n560a-n-7.1.2" on ubuntu 64 bit machine,
as i understand device tree and vendor are important configs related to specific device..but i cant find some info for build just the kernel without downloading all ROM/AOSP sources ..OR MAYBE I JUST DONT UNDERSTAND HOW IT WORKS.:silly:
This is my first android kernel im trying to build,im able to compile kernel for my machine, but im studying my way to it,so maybe i miss some info from building linux kernel for desktop as well. I've read abount how to install kernel, unpack repack boot.img for MTK devices here on xda..but im stuck on compiling!
Im feeling that im missing something HUGE
Hope someone would explain to me just a bit or maybe pointing me to the right direction..
THANKS ALL AND THANKS XDA FORUM
Hi guys, this is my first question here. I wanted to build the kernel for my Micromax device (Spark 4g Prime), but micromax doesn't release the kernel source for its devices (gpl violation, yes, but it's a small company). I really searched everywhere, but could not find anything to help me. I did see a post by @dev_harsh1998 here where he mentioned that lenovo had given broken kernel source for his device, so he "reverse engineered" the kernel source from the boot.img. I didn't find anything on how to do that, can someone please help me out (or point me in the right direction)? Thanks
