Johnny Cash and Me: "I Won't Back Down" - Note 7 Guides, News, & Discussion

I'm going to hold on as long as I can. If the unlikely were to happen, and I can get Nougat, it will be until my normal phone rotation. I don't fly, don't have kids at home, and my phone is always with me and not unattended, so don't feel like I'm putting anyone or myself at risk. I just don't like any of the options at this time. Everyone here knows it's a great phone and nothing compares right now. Just a darn shame.

I thought the same. Then the email came through. "Your phone has been recalled. Someone is coming Thursday evening between 6 and 9 to pick it up. Have the phone ready. The end".

You must be joking - unless of course you initiated a return. If someone came to my door out of the blue asking for my $800+ phone, I would fall down laughing.

I did not initiate a return, no.
No joke I'm afraid. I didn't even schedule a pick up either. They told me, with out me contacting them.
Sure, if someone came out or the blue and you didn't know who they were. Of course not!
But this isn't some random dude. I bought my phone from Samsung direct. Technically they haven't charged me yet either. So I don't plan on getting a £730 bill for and end of life phone this close to Christmas no matter how much I love it.
Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk

Well that is just outrageous! It is something of a loophole that you haven't been charged for it yet. Also I think you're in the UK and consumer laws might differ from US. Think that's a very odd way for them to handle it.

is there a test that we could make for verify if our Note 7 is safe or not? I think samsung it has surrended after the double fool, but could it be possible that all our note 7 are defective? I think no, not all, and that samsung can't continue to find a solution, but we? We surrender? I do not want to.
The test i thinked is to use a navigator app for at least 1 hour on morning under sun.
In that conditions usually the phone that I use become very very very hot.
What do you think?

Until the exact cause of the failure is known, it can't be tested for. You're assuming heat is the cause. This is probably true, but not proven, and even if it is true, there could be secondary conditions necessary to cause the battery failure.

Here in SG, Samsung is taking their own sweet time.

Yep...however Johnny Cash only did the song "I won't back down" as a cover. It was originally Tom Petty's song who had a much better version.

i want to rant

first its my fault i uploaded the damn VIRGIN **** leak....
yet i am paying 8 bucks a month for **** reasons like this even if anyone says its not used for being stupid to root or whatever....
the rant starts with the sprint store. i go in the tech passes me over to the manager who says since i rooted my phone before he will not help me. so i call tech and they said he better look at it. i said no way am i going back to see that ahole again. so they tell me to go to a 3rd party repair store. mind you my phone was working only thing was that it had vm on the banner. the tech tries to fix my phone only to screw up the 3g. so he places an order for a phone. which was on the 8th.
i try to fix my phone until i get the new phone since its on back order. i screw up even more with no calls working. i call sprint and i swear two out of like four told me to root my phone. level two tech said this... haha
yesterday i call the store i want a phone damn it tells me not today sir call tomorrow or even maybe later in the week. WHAT! call sprint told me its going to be another week. i speak to whoever i can they told me the same about it looks like a major back order. this afternoon i call for a update and long and behold the tech says its out for delivery on the ups truck. few hours later the store calls says it will be in tomorrow... wait who is right here? call andriod tech he says 5 more days. huh i say send me to level two tech which he did. the new tech not only tells me its coming today but gave me a tracking number.
sprint get your **** together and have one open system. also let us live and root your own techs advice is to do it.
I get it, you ****ed up your own phone and it's Sprint's fault for not pampering you like an infant?

not at all. one they need to have a clear message across the board. do they or they do not fix rooted phones. i have seen leaked memos that tell them they should. leave that bit on the side. my rant is not the back order nor the techs. my problem is the systems they use. cs runs on a different system can not even see if there are orders for a phone. andriod tech sees an order can not get any more info. level one tech same and tells me its not shipped while level two tech said it was. level two tech can tell me when its being shipped.. how by get this... they chat with the warehouse. well wait why can it all not be connected. one system!
also when a level two tech says trying rooting your phone what should be said? nothing about warranty was said too.
Should've not mentioned root and said one day you woke up with VM and 3G was slower...
I mean, it's true. You don't have to tell them you rooted. And the day after flashing VM firmware, you technically did wake up with VM. The VM makes 3G slower so yeah..

Sprint's stance is this:
Do whatever you want to your phone. If [Sprint] sees that you bricked it [or any features therein] by:
*using unsigned anything,
*and you cannot restore its functionality by restoring its original firmware(s).
*or are unable to restore original firmware(s) due to lockout of writing to said bricked phone/feature,
[Sprint] will not see fit to service this device or its feature(s).

1) Punctuation is our friend!
2) Sentences should always begin with capital letters!
3) Run on sentences are really hard to follow!

You broke your phone. Your grasp of the English language is probably the reason why. If you can't wrap your brain around flashing, get yourself an iDrone and leave Android to the literate.

Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
Yeah. I completely get you, although many people.here hate on you since, HTC is delaying ics, or whatever else. Well some of the people in sprint claim they can't fix your phone because your root, even if its something like, "Flash isn't working" , its an external problem, maybe the light there went off or its broken. Then you talk to another guy. And he tells you , 'Root your phone' NO DUH! Seems like rooting your phone is way cheaper and faster than talking to a dumb sprint tech that has no idea of what he's saying.

Went shopping yesterday and 3 separate people asked me about my One, while I was using it. Same thing happened today with another cashier at another store.
On one occassion, a guy asked about my phone as I'm next in line to go into the fitting room, and I had to interrupt his inquiry while my fitting room freed up. It's getting bothersome having to give everybody a rundown of the phone. lol

No one has asked me about my HTC One
I got mine Saturday, there was only 1 store in the Nashville area that had them (West End) and when I went back yesterday to pick up a pair of Concords for my parents (first smart phones, they were looking for cheap) the guy in front of me was buying one. I had to interject (and the salesman was the one who had sold me mine Saturday, and I brought him bbq when I went in yesterday) and tell him a couple things.
Your situation sounds similar to when I first bought the N7000. I actually get tastefully asked now. With that phone it was bothersome.
Obama asked me where I got my phone from and asked to borrow it... I told him to get one for himself!

Just about all my co-workers and some of my family members have asked me about my phone.
A few co-workers have mentioned how much they love the look and feel of the phone. I work for a company that deals with SMS/Text Messaging stuff. I'm a developer there so we have to test our software by text-messaging in. Sometimes they need to use my phone since I'm the only one on T-mobile in the office. When I unlock the phone and let them use it, they tell me how amazing it is. (This is coming from iPhone users!)
I don't like that kind of attention, but even guys that only buy Apple stuff say they love the phone with just a few minutes to play with it.
HTC hit this one out of the park.

I've experienced the same. Several people at work approached me about the phone. One guy even returned his S4 for the One.

I never thought of that meaning. On my HD2, it made sense; you could turn the phone over, and it would automatically go to the speakerphone on the back.

HELP!!!

A friend of mine is having a serious problem. His family has had all of their cell phones and computers including tablets and tv dvr box hacked. The hackers have gained complete control over everything. .. text messaging, cameras, information and even the accounts themselves. The original phones were through tmobile and the account was closed and all new iphones phones were literally destroyed. He opened a brand new account through att buying all new samsung s4's and within days hacked again. Out of frustration, he took a hammer to the phones. These hackers are theatening their lives. They have even accessed other peoples phones through theres! The police pretty much won't do crap. These people are not tech smart! I am somewhat tech smart. So my question is this: is there something I can do to figure out how they are doing it and is there a way too prevent them from doing this?? Any help is GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

Have they spoke to the phone company? It seems as if this is a highly personal attack on your friend and his family. Personal attacks are usually not done by strangers, which would mean your friend should know who is doing it. If he has proof of threats on their lives, the police have to take that seriously. If not the best route might be to take that hammer to the offenders face, not the poor phones.

They did speak to the phone company which was useless. They do know who is doing this and the police pretty much acted like they have better things to do even with actual proof and they know exactly who is doing it. Fortunately we now have someone involved who is taking care of the police end of it. It'd just be nice to know what kind of preventive measures people can take to keep this from happening. I agree they shouldn't of taken the hammer to the phones!! Poor phones!! They were all brand new too!

This is what we call conspiracy. The way to prevent it is using another technology which we don't have. Try to subscribe with someone else's name with another new phone. If these methods still fail, I don't have any idea then.

Hmm
Maybe the hacked device is the pc! Each and evry device you connect to ur pc gets compromised!
To resolve this problem search for unknown applications installed on the pc! And uninstall them!
And before uninstalling turn on your firewall! Maybe that application resist to uninstall which may cause breaking ur pc completely!
And after doing all this! Only solution for recovering mobiles is to factory reset them!
Hit thanks if i helped you!
If FemtoCell is the actual tool then its the neighbours as it only works from within a 15-40 FT radius. Walk over to the neighbours house and ask them to locate the device then smash it with a bat.
By any chance do these neighbours work for any cell phone company? As what they are doing with vendor equipment is illegal and can even get the vendor in hot water (ie Verizon, aTT, TMob being the vendor here). These are usually given out as cell phone signal boosters for rural areas, and if thats the case ... phone the provider and tell them the adress of the neighbour with the FemToCell and see the vans show up fast.

Im sure FemToCell is used worldwide. I just assume USA/Canadian as that what I am and normally deal with. Either way its malicious.
This issue sounds to be a WiFi attack. More than likely they have had their routers encryption cracked and the hacker used that to gain access to each device.

At this point they need to do something big. Heavy discount on the future N8 or something like it but i dont think they will do anything special. They already lost a lot, they may just risk losing future business with hope people will return

Yeah I think they may do nothing as well, but if they have followed any other famous recalls, going above and beyond to keep customers effected by defective products happy, good a long way. Look at Toyota and Tylenol for passed cases.
If they do the right thing it will make the brand stronger. If they leave 2 million customers out to dry, they will feel the damage to their reputation for years, across multiple product lines not just phones.
If take a discount on an S7e or a future discount on a S8e or a Note8 just something to show they actually care to keep my business.
Yeah, they better do something cause this is embarrassing. To go through another recall... Shesh. The jokes are endless and it's becoming annoying to know that some devices are melting. Makes it uncomfortable to have this device, and I don't want to switch! This phone is too good.
Because I love the device SO much, I was not listening too much around the replacements having issues too, but THIS kind of did me in.
"Consumers with either an original Galaxy Note7 or replacement Galaxy Note7 device should power down and stop using the device and take advantage of the remedies available."

It turns out they made a profit this quarter. Didn't lose much from this. Watch the latest WAN show from LinusTechTips. They talk about it.

Sooooo...no more fires?

Anyone else find it weird that Note 7's were catching fire dang near daily then all of the sudden after Samsung issues a recall, they stop. Not trickle off. Literally STOP. Can't find 1 single report of a fire after October 11th.
There have been a few, since reported here. One from the 15th. It makes sense. Most of the ones that are going to fail already have, and many are out of circulation and we sure wouldn't hear from Samsung about any of those. It doesn't change anything, I'm glad I eventually returned mine after being in denial for a while.

I can't find the one from October 15th anywhere. I've searched and searched and searched. And even at that, I disagree that the ones that will have caught fire have. It doesn't really make sense that the reports would just literally STOP on one day. Even in recall situations, they trickle off as people return devices/etc. These reports stopped.
There was one in Malaysia, one in Singapore, one in UK and another one which I can't remember where, but it was posted on reddit by the victim's wife. It is probably still happening but people keep it to themselves as Samsung cleared itself of responsibility.
These threads need to stop. There are multiple under this same topic already and when the examples were posted they were ignored. Most people aren't using them anymore. Those who are are using them differently.
There's no conspiracy here. Samsung is privy to way more reports than we will ever know as they saw the return data. They made the decision based on this info and not media info to recall them.
Here's one from the q and a section where the post titles that end with question marks go.

Give me the freedom to have a different opinion about how many users are still using them, about conspiracy or whatever it is and the rest. Samsung still doesn't have any idea whit what was happened. And if you are underestimating the impact created by the media then... take a look at what's happening in US election now. But you are right about the thread.

All I'm saying is consider the fact they see all of the returns. We see just the ones that hit the press. They made the choice based on what they were seeing. I think they had a better idea of the volume/scale of the problem and wouldn't have issued a final recall and stopped production otherwise.
If it was just the US media they could have opted to recall only the us versions and leave the rest of the world market intact. Instead, they recalled all note 7.

I think the 'bad' Note 7's were made in Vietnam and have been returned JMHO.

simple, the news media got bored of that story and moved on to have fun with the US Elections.
it's all about the viewer ratings.
explosions and fires still happens, you just don't hear about it, since no news media is reporting on it.
Explosion and fires don't happen anymore... since no news is reporting on it. See how easy it is tu use the logic both ways? )

If they stopped happening and there's no more news coverage, why would Samsung and carriers be blocking the note 7 outright and/or pushing updates to hobble the phone. Oh that's right...they determined the phone to be faulty and dangerous.

The proof is in the fact that Samsung will work it's hardest to get that note out of your hands. First with os updates. Second with carrier blocks. They don't want you to have the phone they made. That's proof enough.

That i's a pretty childish argument... Samsung made an OFFICIAL recall. When it's official it's official and that's it. But even Samsung can't reproduce in lab the problem. And THAT is a big question mark for us. The phone is so faulty and dangerous that even after two months we keep using them without a single problem. ))

No name calling was made sir so I don't appreciate your tone. The facts are the facts. Recall was official and yes they are hobbling phones by limiting charge of all to 60% and also now we have carriers who disabled note 7's across the board. I understand you don't like those facts or agree with them but I would appreciate it if you refrain from name calling.
My point is that Samsung would not be going to all these steps if the problem were mere phantom in nature.

I was a little ironic thinking about the current situation... We still use them even if they say they are dangerous and nothing is happening now. Don't take it personally. Read again my lines and yours and you will see what I'm talking about. When a recall is made that it... they have to take back everything. Even if we like it or not. I agree with that. But the facts are on both sides. The arguments the same. The single problem is WE KNOW something wrong. And we want answers from Samsung. I don't want to talk about the media... they where overreacting about the whole situation. And all of us we know what's happening when they do that. I'm not relaying on media because i don't trust them. I'm relaying on my own knowledge because I'm working in this industry from more than 25 years. And that is my opinion. If you want a technical discussion about that you're very welcome. But again... please, don't take it personally.
