Deleted /persist. How to restore? - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

I have the Redmi Note 3 Pro
I unlocked the bootloader and installed twrp.
But now it says every time "Cant mount /persist "
if i flash a rom with miflash i can boot up.
After i installed twrp i wiped it.
installed cm firmware. RR Rom and a kernel + gapps. but this combo also wasnt booting up.
with /persist as a red text.
can someone help me out ?

Can't mount system ?
It occurs for me when i wipe out internal memory ..and there is no rom present on the phone.
Go to wipe - do factory reset ( wipe internal )
Flash firmware+rom+gapps
Clear cache and reboot.
That's all you've to do. :silly:

ok it is not working.
i cant boot RR Rom.
miui 8 works.
i have to flash the cm 13 firmware once. and than cm right.
after this it doesnt boot.

So I can now Boot miui 8.
I can use my Pin for unlocking my Sim.
But there is no Connection.tested 3 different Sims from 3 different carriers.
Also it looks like the /persist is deleted . Because I can't use any Sensor.
Could someone Dump his Partition. And/or give me a working Guide for restoring?
I rellay don't know what I can do .

How you fixed this

fastboot command fastboot format userdata, it's give me an error, internal memory not mounted, it said 0MB. I think TWRP has corrupted.
So, I flashed new TWRP
- fastboot flash recovery new-twrp.img
- fastboot format userdata
- fastboot boot new-twrp.img
Now I'm able to restore twrp backup.

Was on 3.1.4 around 7 months ago. Do you have EFS backup? If don't, that was a big mistake flashing new baseband without backup.
But here some advices to do:
→Boot to fastboot and re-check if bootloader still unlocked (if yes then proceed ↓ )
→Flash the stock MM recovery for OOS within fastboot
→Directly boot to recovery (using fastboot command or manually)
→Reflash the full ROM 3.1.4 zip. It should bring back everything
*Or try to flash compatible TWRP for 3.1.4 and just restore the EFS partition or full Nand Backup (if you have one)
*If not, then you'll need to follow mega unbrick guide.

Thats disaster. Have you tried any steps i suggested earlier?
Re-check unlocked bootloader? and try flashing compatible TWRP within fastboot? hows the results?
• Download full ROM 3.1.4 zip and place in your computer (ADB folder)
• Directly boot to TWRP and use "ADB sideload" of full ROM zip (using ADB command)
Use search button (or just google it) how to use ADB sideload.
→Worst case scenario, follow the mega unbrick guide that should help you. OK. goodluck.
Note: Easiest way, contact oneplus support team for remote session. They will help you
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot erase modemst1
fastboot erase modemst2

You need a stock MM recovery for opx to flash full 3.1.4.
and make sure you ain't got corrupted zip file. Download full 3.1.4 ROM zip from onplus website.

If you're already on stock MM recovery. then just reflash the OOS full ROM 3.1.4 zip. (The zip you tried was corrupted one, i guess). re-download and try again.
Note: make sure to checked box mount (system, data, cache) only, before flashing full ROM.

IF only he wanna try flash any N custom ROM for opx,

Here you go, in case someone try messing up with the modem make sure to backup modemst1 & modemst2 first:
Just open terminal emulator on device and types:
su (to grant root access)
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p10 of=/sdcard/modemst1.bin bs=512
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p11 of=/sdcard/modemst2.bin bs=512
*It will copy the 2 files into sdcard/internal storage. Save those 2 files to safety place. like a Bank
To restore (using fastboot) types:
fastboot flash modemst1 modemst1.bin
fastboot flash modemst2 modemst2.bin

To repair EFS issues when fastboot only available. There are other ways as well however OP mentioned fastboot available only.
Edit: @Part.0 if you would have read OP correctly, you would have noticed he mentioned that he flashed the wrong modem files and my solution along with a fastboot reboot which I didn't mention would have solved his problem. fastboot erase modemst1/2 although you only know it for solving modem/GPS issues are also partitions. Remember our job here is not to convince @Part.0 of our solutions, next time a thank you would do well for teaching you something.

Ok since i can't reproduce your issue on this one, so i can't find the right solutions for your case.
• Unlocked bootloader + Working Recovery + Fastboot + Full ROM zip file
Those should enough fixing your issue.
Perhaps i missed something, like corrupted partitions (firmware). Maybe another user experienced with the issue can help you out.
Best luck for you.
Note: Maybe our friend here can help you out @dchrono or willing to help you. Thank you.
Ps: Try mountng of "Firmware" in mount section before flashing full ROM. So it will mounted (Firmware, System, data, cache) But wait, ask out before you do. Finger crossed

Just Turn on sim data
. And Try to add account in developer option. See if can be successfully added in developer option > miunlock status.
Let me know if u getting 20091 error in developer option.

Question Unable to mount storage when trying to ADB sideload

I can't install any rom, ADB sideload fails with this error:
Unable to mount storage.
Devices on super may not mount until rebooting recovery.
To flash additional zips, please reboot recovery to switch to the updated slot.
I already tried to switch the slots many times.
I also tried to format data, but it tells me:
E: unable to check merge status
Updating partition details...
...done
Unable to mount storage
I can access the recovery and the factory-reset android, but i can't do anything more.
I think the problem is relative to encryption but I can't even format data, so I don't know how to escape this...
Now I can't even access the rom, I can only access TWRP and fastboot. The problem is that format data does not work, with the same error:
E: unable to check merge status
I tried repairing and changing filesystem, now I don't really know what to do...

[Tool] Flash Custom ROMs through Fastboot [mojito / sunny]
Are you struggling to install custom roms on this device? Lots of recovery errors? Can't boot to any rom? Don't worry. Fastboot is a good way to avoid such nonsense... Install any custom rom & miui recovery rom through fastboot Steps: 1...

Ok, i installed CrDroid with fastboot tool, then format data and then re-flashed the rom with adb, but the phone starts just on the CrDroid recovery (slot b) or on fastboot (slot a)...
What is the correct process to install a ROM? This A/B thing gets me mad
Now I managed to install an old MIUI fastboot rom from this link with XiaomiADBFastbootTools (a kind of mi flash tool for linux) and this rom now it is working, so I think I had some problems with the fastboot tool you suggested. But I don't really know what was the problem, the installation process seemed to work, It restarted to recovery, I rebooted to system but then it kept returning to recovery or to fastboot without entering in the system...
Switching slots directly in recovery is not functional. Just look after switching what the active slot is and you will see that it has not changed. Do the slot switching with the fastboot command from the PC.
fastboot --set-active=a
fastboot --set-active=b

yes, I was using these commands to switch slots. but when it is necessary to switch slots in the flashing process? I mean, what is the correct order? format - flash rom with adb - reboot to fastboot - switch slot - reboot to system...is this correct?
Slot swapping may not be required. Do it only when it is requested or when the boot crashes into recovery.

Redmi Note 10 64GB/4GB, I think the codename is sunny because I have the global/european version. Do you need more?
I think the best step is to upload the original Miui using MiFlash with the "clear all" setting.
Use this version of MiFlash.
You can get the right Miui here.
Before using MiFlash, I recommend loading the boot.img included in the downloaded Miui into your phone in fastboot mode.
Use the command:
fastboot flash boot_a boot.img
fastboot flash boot_b boot.img
Then use MiFlash and don't play Miui. Wait until the phone starts itself, then you can disconnect it.
If anything is not clear, ask questions.

Actually I'm already in a original MIUI and it is working. My pc is on linux so I can't use MiFlash but I used XiaomiADBFastbootTools (a kind of MiFlash tool for linux). Can I start from here or I have to install the MIUI version you linked?
The only thing is that I didn't specifically load the boot.img
Unfortunately I don't know the Linux version of MiFlash. They may not work equivalently. It needs to properly clean all the partitions of the phone and load all the files supplied in the ROM.
I recommend to use the Miui listed by me.

Question I broke my OnePlus Nord 2 while updating TWRP? Any help ?

Twrp updated from 3.5 to 3.6. I'm on A19. Rooted with Magisk 24.3. I flashed TWRP 3.6.img with Twrp 3.5. Flash OK, reboot in recovery mode OK. System reboot OK. Reboot in recovery mode to test Ok. Reboot system and there bootlooped with red point and white point turning.
I can reboot in TWRP. Il fastboot boo.img, vbmeta.img. Same pb Bootlooped.
I have a nandroid backup (data/boot/cache/DTBO/NVCFG/NVDATA/NVRAM/Persist/Persist Image/Protect F/protect S/Recovery/VBMeta).
I tried ti restore these partitions without erasing partitions. Restore OK but noway to boot. Bootlooped
I wipe all partitions. Restore without Data partition (with data, I have an error). Same bootlooped
I am trying to restore the data partition only. I have this error "Failed to mount '/data' (Invalid argument)
I have no more idea, I'm a little desperate. No solution ? Return the smartphone for repair?
1) flash stock recovery and stock boot via fastboot
2) flash patched vbmeta via fastboot with fastboot --disable-verity --disable-verification flash vbmeta vbmeta.img
2) format data via stock recovey
3) let it reboot to system
4) flash twrp via fastboot
5) restore only /data via twrp
6) reboot to system
7) UI will be broken, reboot again to fix it
8) remove any pin / password / pattern form the settings, and redo it.
9) Re flash twrp and magisk to root.
Thank you very much for this procedure Raygen. I was indeed able to recover my phone and restart it but it is very unstable. I had bootloopers again after reinstalling TWRP and Magisk. Now I have a problem with my security code or my fingerprints. Looks like they don't take them into account when I want to hand over a security code. Another problem is the camera no longer works. The app does not start. I tried to install the oneplus camera app loaded on Telegram v 3.422.2 but the installation failed.
A proposal to solve these problems ? Reinstall a partition other than Data that I backed up by Nandroid or is it back to OnePlus?
Try to restore the /persist partition from the twrp backup.
take a read here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...rprint-to-become-completely-disabled.4363067/
Thanks very much. By restoring the "persist" partition, I recovered the camera and the fingerprints function. I hope the bootloops will stop there. Thank you very much, you are my saviour.
My OnePlus Nord 2 Indian version got hard bricked and I can't go in recovery or fastboot mode it is in a bootloop on OnePlus logo .
Any help???
