Suggestions on Roms/Kernels? - E 2015 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So a friend recently gave me this phone and im trying to figure out what rom I should install. I know a few (pacrom, slim, aokp etc..) but a lot of these roms I've never heard of so if anybody can suggest their favorite or most used rom or a rom you would suggest to other people that would be great.
I don't care much for extra features. I'm just looking for a smooth rom with good battery life.

slimroms is very stable and i manage to get around 7-8 hours of sot (but i don't use gapps so ymmv).
although i will probably switch over to cypher os once they get all the bugs worked out on the nougat version, or cyanogenmod 14, whichever comes first.

Yeah I flashed the latest stable build of slim and so far I'm definitely getting more battery life than at least cm13 which I initially flashed. Have you tried previous builds of cypher or do you wanna switch because it's nougat?

Looking for recommendations on Rom and kernel

I'm looking for a Rom that's is all about fluid, speed and least lag possible. I'm not big on features and not to concerned about battery life.
Can someone recommend Rom or rom /kernel that would provide what I'm looking for?
I've browsed all the roms and just can't find enough info on what they offer.
Thanks in advance!
IMHO Dirty Unicorns is the best. They even have a 5.1 test build available which I am running.

Do you use the kernel that came with DU or are you using fire ice?

Where can i find the Test build for 5.1 and how stable is it?
http://download.dirtyunicorns.com/files/
(I hope it's OK to post their main d/l page on xda)
N9 5.1 ROMs are a WIP right now. They're very usable, but won't be 100% until official factory images are released.
--- update ---
I just installed the DU 5.1 Test Build mentioned above, and it is indeed fast and stable. I think one of the keys to stability is installing the correct gapps package (people have reported wake locks and FCs on certain gapps). I used the arm64 minimal gapps from SlimRoms.
Sent from my Nexus 9
Rastapop 5.1 has been very stable for me. Stock kernel.

Resurrection Remix. It's a CM 13 based Rom, stable and nice. You have other customization options too.
From my personal experience, MM ROMs are a lot better, smooth and stable (so far) than any lollipop Rom I've flashed on this device

Yes..i tried to flash it before The ROM bit nothing... The recovery doesn't istall The ROM..remain on path system unconditionally..
I think cm 13 is best rom ever in custom roms
I suggest Temasek, AICP, or CyanPop for now. Since RR froze development for reasons I don't know, these ROMs should be a good substitute. But when RR comes back, its a recommend to go for it. RR topped the charts while the I9300 was in the world of lollipops

I had Blispop v4.x (LP 5.1) for a month. Twice a day I had to restart the phone because camera driver (or whatever) was crashing and apps could not connect to camera.
Is the camera driver stable on CM 13 or Resurrection Remix?
I was using A Better Camera and Camera MX.
I suggest to stay on lollipop, cause MM cm-13 still have a lot of bugs. If you use ur phone for daily usage just wait for stable release of MM.

not right.. for me marshmallow rom is better than lollipop ROM..try only to see the instructions and do a flash clean.
is 3 weeks thai i use Cyanogenmod13 and now i'm on latest build 17012016..and all works fine without problem.. for camera i don't have any issue.. i use snap camera but i think also stock camera isn't buggy
Lollipop is not ideal for exynos versions of S3. Thats why CM skipped it. Not to say you wont find other custom roms where L does fine as well as unofficial CM12 versions. With free time on the weekend, I decided to test latest CM 13 nightlies. This on the assumption its just to familiarize myself with it then flash back to my reference CM11 backup. Quite surprised how solid CM13 is. May hang on to it for a while as I've not yet seen any reason to flash back yet.
I recommend you resurrection remix rom.

Nitrogen OS has everything you are looking for. VoLTE and Goodix are working out of the box.

If you were to rate nitrogen OS, what would your review be?
I have been using Slim with Radon for quite a while now, and I have gotten an amazing experience.
Going to try Nitrogen soon, to see what the hype is all about!

Is it buggy?
aospextended
i have been using AospExtended from more than a month. very satisfied.
before that tried almost every rom but has issues. could not continued to use as daily driver.
also realised most of the lineage based roms are buggy and Aosp based are more stable.
no one can give you honest answer. try it for yourself.
i suggest AospExtended by AmolAmrit.
nitrogen is also very stable

No, Slim has no bugs that I know of, and plus, it is maintained by Umang96, you know he's the best.

only problem with slim rom (for me atleast) is that its very slim. not even the daily apps and some of the customization.
but i know thats why it is called as Slim Rom.

Can you please tell the procedure to flash Slim ROM, coming from MIUI 8 stable? There are many guides and I'm not sure which to follow. I don't want to lose imei and stuff. Can you please?
EDIT: Nevermind, flashed it
Unlock bootloader using the official method.
Install TWRP using the official guide on the TWRP website.
To do both of these, watch RootJunky's guide on YouTube.
After you have TWRP installed, put all these files on your phone or memory card. Use Firmware and Goodix Patch from Slim thread only. Use OpenGapps
Boot into TWRP and then make a full backup, then go into Wipe -> Advanced Wipe, wipe System, Data, Cache and Dalvik Cache.
Then go to Install and install these files in this order.
The latest version of Radon Kernel for Nougat, in balanced setting, is recommended for best performance and battery.
- Flash*Firmware
- Flash*Slim 7
- Flash Gapps
- Flash*SuperSU
- Flash*Goodix Patch*(If you have goodix FP)
- Flash*Radon Kernel (Choose Goodix FP, and Balanced settings during installation)
- Reboot and wait for 5-10 minutes.

Best Nougat ROM for Condor

It's been 5 or 6 months since our little beast got the Nougat update thanks to our developers who are doing amazing job with our 3 year old device.
I want to know Is there any Nougat ROM which is absolutely stable, and with great battery life like MM ROMs.
Since Xposed for Nougat is not ready at the moment, Greenify and Amplify are not that effective. I am not a flasholic who try every ROM so plz suggest me the absolute best one of them you use. It will also help many other users who want a stable Nougat ROM.
PS: I have tried CM14.1 , RR 5.8.0
Now back to RR 5.7.4 MM

Every ROM is not perfect. I will only be able to suggest you according to your priority.
If you need best battery life & performance then try Cardinal, Aoscp, DU, Aosp-CAF
If you want decent battery life & performance with lots of customization then try RR (by anderson), AEX and LOS (it will give you a better performance but you won't get Theme support).

Cardinal was the best MM ROM I've used in terms of battery and stability but is not for Nougat yet.
I just want a stable ROM with everything working fine(including ROOT) and good battery life( upto 5 hours of SOT) and can be used for a like long time.

Cardinal will be back soon. You can try Citrus ROM made by the same team. Be aware you won't get updates soon. https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=745425885120712605
I would suggest you to go for DU or AOSCP both are great.
The latest DU rom is https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=529152257862719486
And for aoscp wait as within a week you will get updated v3.6.2 on their official site.

Best custom rom

I'd like to know what is the best custom(in terms of performance, smoothness and battery drain) that I can install on this device. Thanks
The best custom rom for your device is the one "you" like best. If you want an experience like stock google then try Pixel rom. If you want massive customization then try havoc. If you want a better miui experience try xiaomi.eu or mi-globe. If you don't know what you want try them all.

What rom are supposed to use now? Evolution X seems dead like Pixel experience. The only ROM that seems alive, Miui apart, is Mokee, because in their website are updating nitghlys almost everyday, but I'm afraid tot test it... Someone here is using the mokee rom? Thanks.

Not used in in a long time. Mokee is basically a lightly modified Chinese version of CyanogenMod/LOS. Which is why it has nightlies.

I believe they're bot builds anyway, as the maintainer left some time ago.
I personally use the official Syberia ROM. Its super fast. Before that I used beta AOSmP for a while. It too was fast & lean. Some ROMs/kernels are kinda laggy, those are not.
The private beta of miui Q just got released for our device so there should be some builds come along soon using the PHH base for custom aosp Q roms.
