Anker PowerLine USB-C cable - LG G5 Questions & Answers

So I got 3 USB-C to USB 3.0 cables from Anker. After a lot of trying, I figured out that they would not work for transfering files to my PC with the MTP protocoll. The device would come up in Device Manager as Code 10: Could not start device or something like that.
After contacting the support, they send me 3 new ones but they have the same problem. So I assume that it is a problem with the cables because with the stock LG cable everything works.
Does anyone have had similar problems? Does anyone have a third party USB cable that works with MTP? Could it be a problem because it is USB 3.0 and not 3.1? Any hints?

On certain machines I had that happen when I used a usb 3.x cable on a 3.x port but worked when plugged to usb 2.0 port... meanwhile would work on usb 3.x port on my laptops. Did further testing and found that usb 2.x cables would work on usb 3.x ports on the machine that couldn't use usb 3.x cables on 3.x ports. One thought also was that the problem machine has lg bridge installed so could be issue with the lg drivers while its fine on the generic mtp drivers.
So as a test try using those cables on any usb 2.0 ports on your machine and if that works i guess that's a workaround.

I face the same problem. My cable is Anker PowerLine+ USB-C to USB-A 3.0 and MTP doesn't work when plugged on a 3.0 USB port.. PTP works but there is no diffrence and it's limited to functions.

I'm using Anker Powerlines, are you sure it's not a driver issue?

What drivers are you using? The ones from lg?

Try the ports in the back of your computer, i switched it and it worked for me

I had a similar problem, but there is a newer LG USB Driver (4.2.0).
I would suggest removing the older driver (probably 4.1.1) and then installing the 4.2.0 driver:

I am now using the G5 with this Anker PowerLine+ USB 3.0 Type C to A cable without any problem.

i know that but i live in algeria there is not who i can buy it
Well you said you've tested different USB devices with it, and you've also tested it on 3 different phones. Which obviously means the cable itself is cactus.
Not really anything you can do about it.
A quick Google search for 'repair USB OTG cable" brings up a bunch of results, some of which detail how to repair USB cables (apparently). Looks like you have a lot of research/work to do if you can't buy another one then.
I've got a similar problem with OTG USB driver on SGN.
I bought OTG cable which work fine when I connect pendrive device, but doesn't work when i try to connect usb mouse, keyboard, pad ect.
It worked when I had a stock samsung software 4.0.3, but I changed it because of its battery drain problem. I've installed 4.0.4 Paranoid Android v05 (CM9). I found in Market application USB Host Controler, and itshows "S3C USB Host driver NOT found!".
Is it possible to add this driver to OS ? Or is there any other way to use external hardware device like mouse or keyboard?

USB 3.0 with Xperia

OK to use USE 3.0 speeds if I understand this, you need:
- a USB 3.0 port on your computer
- a USB 3.0 cable
As far as I know, you do NOT need a 'USB 3.0 device'. So we could transfer data faster on our Xperias using the above? I'm about to get a new laptop and will definitely aim for USB 3.0 if this is correct. Then you just need to buy a new micro USB 3.0 cable, like on eBay or something, true? Anyone done this yet? I'm browsing on eBay for a new cable, but the micro USB 3.0 end piece does not look like the one for my phone now. e.g.

USB 3 DOES require a USB 3 compatible device... i.e. USB 3 compatible devices on both ends...
Ah this is annoying, the first place I read it said you don't need a 3.0 device, the second place I read it said it works as fast as the slowest device - which could be 2.0. Info. is a little sparse on this, isn't it? But it's been in for a few years. Is it really worth getting 3.0 if adoption is so slow?
No, because our devices have only microUSB v2.0, so we can only have the speed of USB 2.0.
You can try, but you won't get more speed out of it.

You can use usb2.0 cable without problems, USB3.0 standard is backwards compatible with usb 2.0. You should probably get faster charge times with USB3.0 because of higher rated mA on ports...
I like the sound of that!
I have heard of many problems with USB 2 devices in 3 ports. Driver issues apparently.
I look forward to phones which support USB 3 because that's now a missing link the chain - the computers selling now have the ports. I was a bit doubtful of the 'real' benefits of the speed (I was quite young when USB 2 came in) but my God, it is fantastic. I backup my hard drive frequently and I am amazed at the speed every time.
Hi,
the only problem you can have by using USB3.0 port for your smartphone, it's a driver problem.
For the speed of transfert, you need USB3 port, USB3 cable and... USB3 device .
The connector of USB3 (device side) is different from USB2 and I never saw USB3 cable with micro port (used on our smartphone).
It's a shame, I can't wait for USB 3.0 phones! I didn't care much about until I got my first USB 3.0 hard drive...wow
but why need usb 3.0?
the best would be a class 10 sdcard -- so writing files into the phone's memory card is faster.
10 sd will be enough
Yep ultimately I would prefer to use a phone's flash memory. I've experimented with music library management on Android but I for my next option I think I'd go with an iOS device.

UPDATE USB type c not working

UPDATE:
my fault. Didn't remember I disabled the thunderbolt feat in the bios.
Hi, I got a USB type c 3.1 which I connect to the 3.1 type c port of my computer. When I connect the mobile it only charges it. Trying with installing latest (1.5.65) Samsung drivers to no avail.
Want to use it to transfer files.. What's wrong with what?!

Your cable may not have wires for data transfer? Try a cable certified for data.
Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk
It works with other phones, s9 displays fast charging.. Is there a way to change it to mtp or something?
Did you buy a cheap cable from Amazon or Ebay, possibly an uncertified cable? If so, that's probably the reason why. Unfortunately the cheap cables are not wired correctly and do not support all the features.
Post a link to the cable you purchased and we can better determine the cause. Also, what kind of computer do you have? Laptop? Desktop? Proper USB 3.1 drivers installed for the port? Etc.

It's an €20 amazon basics cable.. Asus z170 Pro native Intel 3.1 type C port
Are there different kinds of type-c cable? Or the data transfer of type-c cables are easily destroyed?

Problems with USB3

I have a T-Mobile LG V30 running on software H93220k, and I notice that when I plug it into a USB3 port (both desktop and laptop) that it goes in and out of connectivity. However, connect it to a USB2 port and it's all good. I don't have any issues charging it or connecting it to Android Auto. Anyone else experiencing these issues?
What cable are you using? The cable that is included is USB2.0 and my laptops given me a bit of fuss with its usb 3 ports and the original cable
So far it's with any USB C cable I use. I didn't use to have this problem, as I was able to flash Oreo using LG Bridge and backup the phone.
Maybe the port is dirty or something?

The included cable is a bit weird. I rooted mine and I couldn't even get past the 1st step which was using fastboot to unlock the bootloader because when I used the stock cable it wouldn't read the device in fastboot. But it would read it in download or whatever it's called for using LGUP from the same USB port. The laptop I had only had USB 3 ports but I did try it on my brothers MacBook which only has USB 2 and it was the same result. As soon as I used one of my other cheap amazon cables it worked flawlessly lol.

SuperCharge + SuperSpeed USB-C cable?

Hi,
Does anybody know of a USB-C cable featuring both Huawei SuperCharge and USB 3.0 SuperSpeed data trasfer rate?
I could find only cables with either one or the other feature, not both.
Also the original Huawei cable supplied supports SuperCharge (together with the original Huawei charger) but it's only USB 2.0, with max transfer rate of 480 Mbps (USB Hi-Speed) when connected to a USB 3.0/3.1 port of my desktop PC.
Cheers.
This one on Wish worked for me, but you do need a charger marked 'SuperCharge'

Not sure if it's USB 3.0 - how do you tell?

Well, I have purchased several cables compatible with SuperCharge, but none of them was USB 3.0, just 2.0.
I also have tried many USB C cables that were actually USB 3.0, but none of them was SuperCharge compatible.
So I'm looking for a cable that supports BOTH SuperCharge and USB 3.0 data transfer speed, but I couldn't find any so far.
I started thinking that it is not technically possible to have both features in a single cable, it's probably one or the other due to hardware limitations.
You can tell if it's USB 3.0 when you plug the phone to a USB 3.0 port on your Windows PC.
If the cable is USB 2.0 only, a pop-up saying that "This device can perform faster" will appear and the data transfer speed will be much slower.
I have that: https://www.gearbest.com/chargers-cables/pp_1709066.html?wid=1433363
Working as advertised...
USB3 has blue color in connector, USB2 white...
