Hi, I just got the screen replaced on my LG G5 after I had dropped and cracked it. Now post the screen replacement my signal/reception quality is extremely poor. When I switch the device on it shows full signals for maybe 3 seconds and then it drops off to either no signal or at best I get 1-2 bars of signal.
Anyone got any idea what this might relate to or a possible solution?

From what I have noticed this seems to be a common issue,
Of coarse I haven't found a fix other than pinching on the lower piece of the device that the battery snaps into which is weird cause the antennas arent even in it when i pinch on mine i will go from no bars to 3 may be a coincidence.
I have been trying and trying to figure this one out.
I came on this forum to find out which G5 variant is best in the USA. I have a T-Mo 830 and I started having weak signal issues. I noticed that if you remove the battery you will see a couple small pieces of the board are exposed. Looking at the open battery compartment with the screen up they are on the right side of the compartment. On my phone the smaller of the 2 was bend. I suspect this can happen when replacing the battery. This seems to affect signal reception.
Sounds like whoever fixed your screen reconnected the antenna cable rather loosely.
If you were saying that your phone always had bad service, that's one thing. If it happened after a screen repair; then I would put all my chips in what I said.
I fix phones, and the LG G5 is one of the models that requires almost full disassembly to change the screen. You basically disconnect and re-connect everything, and some times you can make a mistake like this.
Thanks but never had any service.

I've never opened a G5 yet, but it looks like the antenna resides in the removable module from the bottom.
I believe antenna is in the removable piece, thats why some of the accessories are not compatible with certain variants. Fcc testing rules and different antenna types for different network types.

I just noticed that when I put my hand around the bottom of the phone my signal drops by 2-3 bars and as soon as i remove it, it goes back up. I can do it over and over again. Just out of curiosity I tried this with my evo 4g and the signal doesn't change. I've seen a bunch of people reporting that their reception isn't as good as other phones with the 3d. could it be the antenna placement just like the iphone 4?

I would recommend getting a bumper...
No, for real though, the iphone had the issue because the antenna was built into the actual outside of the phone, when your skin touched it, it would change the attenuation which caused the issue of poor reception. Our antenna is totally internal so this would not happen.
I think your holding it wrong. Seriously though I just did the same and was unable to recreate the issue. Might be defective.

I have this problem too... Anybody claiming they don't have this problem are in a good coverage area. If you download the app open signal maps you can see the drop in dbm once you hold the device, it's very irritating
Mine does it to, very annoying.
I saw somewhere in another thread that the radio antenna is indeed on the bottom of the 3d. Dont know if thats confirmed or not. But it would explain the drop when covered by hands.

61% with nothing touching my phone.
70% with my hand covering the bottom.
56% with both hands around the phone.
I fail to see how this is like apple because EVERY PHONE loses signal when being touched. The problem with Apple's was that it dropped the calls.
Sent from my Shooter.
Yes, without anything it's at 80% and once I grab it it drops to 30%. The antenna does seem to be at the bottom unlike the 4G which was on the top.
And calls drop all the time.

My problem is that if I cover the upper part but well I almost never do that.
This needs to be recognized as a known issue since it has been brought up many times
I noticed the same thing but wierd thing is sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't.
I could recreate it for 15 tries in a row but then I closed the internet browser and moved the phone a couple inches and the problem stopped.
I will keep monitoring the signal while I grab the phone and see what happens. But yes it did happen when I grabbed the bottom.
Mine does it too...this is the only problem I have

Its not a "known issue". It just so happens that this is a cell phone. Which has antennas. Which, when covered, loose reception. No way around that. Its the nature of cell phones.
Comparatively its like complaining that when in a lead lined room, you have poor reception.

The iphone issue was caused by them leaving the antenna exposed on the outside of the phone. Whenever you would touch it in a certain spot it would short it out and you would lose the signal.

While it may not be exactly like the iphone, could it be similar in the fact the antenna placement isn't optimal? I think that most people hold their phones toward the bottom where the antenna is where as on other phones like the evo 4g they wouldn't be covering the antenna by doing this. I just know I've seen quite a few complaints regarding reception so this could be a feasible reason why.
Alright, I read the review on this phone and, after having the GalaxyS 1, I thought trying an HTC would be a great idea as my GS1 had extreme screen burn in; which led me to opt for an HTC instead of GS2 - the cheaper alternative of course.
I was pretty happy with this phone. Somewhat smaller than what I expected, though it runs fairly well with ICS and HTC Sense loaded.
Now the ridiculous issue. This phone has a severe case of 'death grip'. I've had quite a couple of frustrating weeks trying to figure out what on earth was causing the signal to drop completely from 2 or 3 bars to dead, when picking the phone up to text.
Before I considered googling 'hand signal absorb htc', or similar keywords to that effect, I tested my theory by holding the phone at the top two edges and then in my palm again; in the same position both times. The result? 5 bars to two bars, or even in some cases one bar. The signal where I live isn't excellent, however it's not terrible either. With my GS1 having no issue with signal drops. Just holding the Desire X in the palm of my hand, under the table results in complete signal loss.
This is an absolute joke. I've missed really important phone calls and the majority of sms's arrive late due the lovely signal loss regain repetition, essentially causing the phone do not receive calls, even though, provided it does have 3 or so bars.
So, am I the only one here who has this issue, or for that matter; a faulty phone? Really Really disappointed.
I do have a signal drop problem as I already wrote on another post and nobody answer:
"I have a lot of signal drops on GSM/EDGE and also 3G/HDSPA? The signal is full but, the phone is in stand by, the signal drops and I loose calls. Does anyone have this problem?
Also I noticed when the phone switches from 3G to GSM/EDGE first I have a no signal period (couple of seconds)."
I also had this problem with an LG Optimus 2x when updated to Android 4.0.4.

Sounds like a faulty antenna. Either that or you have lead hands.
It should be a cheap fix at any local repair shop or free if you take it back to the shop for a replacement.

What I don't understand is, when i'm on an actual phone call, there's no issue with quality or signal loss. Sounds like the phone rom is preserving the antennas power in idle mode?
Hello,
I have bought an used xperia ultra off the internet.
The problem is that outdoor I have no issue with my signal. But when I go inside the signal drops and it shows me NO NETWORK.
Is there any solution for this ?
Thank you in advance !
I have tried software update and hard reset with no luck ...
Depends on the type of house you're living in and the general coverage in your area. I live in a concrete apartment and i have excellent coverage, so it might be the coverage in your area? How many lines do you have when you're outside?
Now I am using my sim card in a nexus 4 and i get full signal in the same place where my xperia doesn't.
The cell tower is not very far away ...
So, the house is not a problem ...
P.s : nexus 4 has full signal on wcdma but xperia has no signal/poor signal even on edge/gprs ...
As you can see in the picture, every phone tested with that sim has full signal in the same place. But not the xperia ... I think it's "blessed" ...

Weird. I get better signal than ever with my Z Ultra. Inside on the countryside right now where my signal always was 1-2 bars with most of my other Androids and i often lost the signal temporarily. I'm sitting on full 4 bars now with my Z. Amazing!

Well you are a lucky man, congratulations. My problem is that I bought the phone in a different country and I'm pretty sure that the folks here in my country will deny the warranty ... And going back in the country of purchase is not an option.
Does anyone have a Modem/Baseband that could be flashed to see if the problem still persists?
Thank you !

Problem solved ...
For all of you that experience the same problem, take a hot air gun, heat up the back of the phone, and slowly take it off with a suction cup.
After doing that, check the cable that comes from the antenna to the motherboard. Mine was loose, and I hat to fit it back in it's correct place.
After powering on the phone, the signal is OK !
Attached a photo below:
And a video with disassembly instructions.
Hope that helps you.
Hi there - by antenna, do you mean the whitish cable on the right-most section of your picture?
Another thing, did the back cover stay attached perfectly after you've re-assembled it? I mean using the heat gun on it didn't make it permanently loose?
What about water-proofing?
Thanks!

Hi. Finally it's working and yes the cable was loose. It's really easy to open the phone. It's the cable on right it's grey and silver ( like on picture) You can buy new original adhesive tape on ebay for £5. I don't know about waterproofness after. I will try when I will get new phone. Hopefully ultra2

I'm surprised you'd even want a new one after dealing with that. Hopefully I don't need the original receipt to get warranty service. I hate the idea of opening up a new phone to solve a problem with a home remedy. As you can tell I am suffering from the same issue.
3G and 4G can have poor reception indoors. See if switching to 2G only helps, even if you don't have mobile data enabled.
It was the only way to normally use the phone. It took 5-10 min and now it's working perfect. Try with Sony service centre, I hope they will do it for you. It's best phone ever, I hope they will make ultra 2.

aaand now I have the same issue. ****ING hell...*****phone ...eh gonna send it in someday next week. I don't have the receipt here so got to go to my other apartment first
a weird solution that worked for me
Hi guys I had the same issue and solved it finally
First I tried your method and checked the antenna cable mine was already in place and fine so I was depressed and closed the phone back.I tried every thing else rebooting, repairing through companion, updating the rom, changing sim, changing network and every thing else. Finally I took phone into service they returned it without the issue and I was pleased too much, but same issue returned after 2 weeks
So I tried a stupid thing that worked like a charm I put 2 pieces of paper under the sim and above the sim metal holder and inserted the sim back then the issue was solved and network is like any other phone finally
It worked for me and I think it may worse a try

I was hopeless till I found this thread. Thanks to Al3xxxinho it worked! The antennA were loose also. Easy to open and I didnt see it Will break the warranty seal if you open, and the back cover still fit perfectly. Now I enjoy full signal bar.:laugh::laugh:
What I did was chanel the preferred network type to wcdma

I have already fixed the wifi problem with opening the case of the phone and put a soft metal clip between the two wifi contacting points and the antenna.
I think it is the problem of the aging of the the two wifi contacting points .

I did some search on the internet first, finding out that many ppl having the same problems due to the reasons of falling down the phone on ground.
It is easy, First open the case, then open the upper part which is with 4 screws. then remove it and you can see there is two contacting point on the upper right side.
They are are the contacting point for wifi.
Just use some soft clip to increase the contact area and install back the upper part. that's all

i hope you already solved the problem, but if not, try this out, it work for me at least now my redmi note 3 wifi keep connect and the signal increase, first open your phone back cover (you can use thick material such as guitar pick) then at the top remove 4 screws (one screw is hidden in the back of small mi sticker) then remove the black small cover, there at two contact point put something (for me i use aluminium foil, i take it from coaxial antena cable, cut small square or so put in there) that's it put it back, try to test it first before you put the cover back because a little bit hard to open the cover though. goodluck....

This works in Xiaomi Redmi 3S? I am with the same problem, but i am not sure how to open it and where are the part that i must put something in that two contact point.
This is a very weird issue. I had very good wifi strength before and with the miui updates the signal is very weak now. Redmi 2 and any other phone has better signal.
I have the same router than before.
But its strange that other ROM also has weak signal... Because redmi note 3 pro used to be considered a phone with wifi signal strength
I have my phone suddenly got low wifi signal. I try your suggestion, and it works. Wifi signal is as good as new phone.
I do both put paper under the pin to leverage the connection point, AND put aluminum foil to the contact point in the small black cover to increase the contact area. Not sure which action do the magic

Hello, so i just bought brand new iphone 12 and noticed issue with wifi connection. The connection drops significantly while covering the top of the phone. I first noticed it while trying out the pubg mobile when ms jumped from 50 to 400 as soon as i covered too left part of the phone and then went back to normal after removing my hand. Has anyone esle experienced this? Or do i need to get it replaced
5Ghz WiFi?
I’ll test this out after work, but it’s not surprising. The antennas are right there and with 5Ghz WiFi your body will cause interference.

I think your device might be faulty. Or you are using a bad design case maybe that blocks RF signals.
Hope it helps

Which brand of router do you use? Also agree with @Tachi91 regarding the place of the antennas. Just tried it myself and indeed covering the top of tour iPhone with your hand decreases the WiFi signal, so that's completely normal. Regards, kuzibri
