Hi guys!
I just wondered if anyone could give me their views on daydream VR for the 6P and if it could become possible.
I saw a quote from Google that daydream won't be coming to the 6P due to thermal issues. Although that may be true on the 810 chip, I think that's Google closing the loop on the Nexus programme.
I've seen that daydream testing has been done predominantly on the 6P so I wondered if it could (in theory) be ported over like many fearures of the pixel have been already?
Thanks!

Normal VR throttles horribly on the 6P and it slows to a crawl pretty quickly, the phone absolutely burns after 5mins.I doubt the experience will be very good in general.
Talking of Daydream, I just had this appear as an update on Playstore.

Received too. I wonder why Google push it to Nexus 6P if not compatible.

Are you using the build.prop tweak to enable Assistant? That identifies your 6P to the Play Store as a Pixel XL.

As seen at the top of the descriptions it shows that this is used for both daydream and cardboard. It has also been updated on my other devices as well as they support Google cardboard.
If you go to the vr settings from any cardboard app you can see some things have changed. I wonder what would happen if you'd touch the nfc of the headset with our 6p
I would highly recommend just investing in a vive or rift (if the rift ever goes open platform). Although VR does work on the nexus 6p, the posts above are correct, the phone gets insanely hot and throttles after just a few minutes. Even if you get a phone which can handle the performance a bit better, the performance offered by phone setups such as the gear VR or daydream are night and day compared to a vive or rift. Yes, I get there is a huge difference in price investment when you consider cost of the headset and the components needed for VR ready PC, but I have yet to see any google VR or samsung VR experiences that felt like anything more than a short lived gimmick. I'm sure they technology will eventually be there but I wouldn't expect it for the next few years. If you can come to terms with the fact that you probably won't get a ton of experience time for the money if you purchase the daydream or gear VR, and you still think its worth it, than by all means go for it. I would urge you to try it before you buy it if they do find a way to port to the Nexus 6P, as the initial reaction will be "wow this is cool", it wears off very quickly. They do have some cheaper alternatives on the market such as the view-master VR which you can see what I mean.

No, build.prop is still Nexus 6P. Maybe this upfate is for cardboard as others says.
I'm certain Im missing something here and I never did a ton of testing for VR. But a couple of months ago I bought a cheap VR headset and Ive used it for movies, taken pictures with cardboard camera (doesn't pick up moving objects well but looks pretty cool). Im not having any over heating issues and the resolution is relatively clear. Never tried gaming though--is that what it can't handle?

Yes, there is a big difference in resource usage between 3D movie playback and actually rendering a 3D game. The phone gets hot quick and usually will start to throttle within about 5 minutes on most 3D apps/games that use halfway decent graphics. Try it for youself- Just run tuscany dive, a pretty standard android 3D experience, and you will see your phone start to bake after a few minutes. Sure it won't damage the phone but using a 3D game or application that starts to jitter and stutter after that short of a time makes it almost pointless. This phones thermal dissipation leaves much to be desired unfortunately, and the Snapdragon 810 sure doesn't help at all.

Not much you can do about the heat but there is a mod here (which I'm sure most are familiar with but what the hell) CTT Mod should help a bit with the throttling. I don't do much heavy gaming at all with the exception of trying out ppsspp emulator. Some games were playable, others had unbearable lag. So yeah I'd imagine you'd run into some serious lag/wicked hot phone. Kinda sucks though. This is an octacore. Wonder if anyone's posted results of VR on Pixel...
I just setup daydream on my 6p and it's horrible. The racing game barely even works, YouTube videos play on but most everything else stutters really bad. If you have a 6p and are thinking about getting a daydream I wouldn't do it.

Hi, I know iv posted a few threads already asking about future proofing of the Galaxy S2 however i have a different question specifically related 2 gaming and game releases and updates not hardware or OS Software.
First question is: after the Galaxy S3 will launch, in other peoples experience with Android, will the games continue 2 be developed for the GS2..aswell as GAME updates, etc? I am fairly new to Android therefore dont know much about it yet or what to expect, but from others' experience, do games still get developed for "older" devices..and if so for how long usually?
Second Question: I always use my GS2 as im a pocket gamer, the big screen is marvelous, always gets me coming back 2 the GS2. Looking at benchmark tests in comparison to iphone 4s, it only has offscreen where the 4S wins hands down... however in Native Resolution(where most ppl play the games...on the phone screen) how much difference is the 4S GPU in terms of performance? Not including offscreen... or does anyone know where to fnd the benchmarks that ARENT offscreen?
the 1 site i found is here and it seems like the GS2 wins in Native Resolution GPU performance:
http://glbenchmark.com/phonedetails.jsp?D=Samsung+GT-i9100+Galaxy+S2&benchmark=glpro21 <---- Galaxy S2
http://glbenchmark.com/phonedetails.jsp?D=Apple+iPhone+4S&benchmark=glpro21 <---- iPhone 4S
I just want to get a bit better understanding of android and my GS2 thats all, thanks
When playing games on iPhone 4S and the Galaxy S2, i actually dont notice too much difference... what would others prefer 2 game on and why?(excluding the fact apple has more games to choose from)??
If gaming is your focus get the iPhone 4s. It has the best GPU atm and games are released on iOS before they get released on Android.
That being said you can use Android to game, too (actually quite well) but the iPhone still wins in that department.
....OH REALLY!!!???
i know the games get released on iOS first... but the small screen is annoying sometimes depending on the game.
I wanted an in depth answer from the benchmarks i posted and all
and btw, gaming is not just my focus, the whole phone is, screen size, how long it'll last, what you are able to do on it, etc... gaming is just my question in focus!

Then your question is much more complicated as all those factors depend on personal perception. As such you should get a hand on both devices (preferrably for a day or longer) and see which one fits your needs.
There's not really THE "in depth answer", but many answers, based on personal opinion.
So all I can offer is my reasons why I went the SGS II route:
a) I love AMOLED
b) I wanted a big screen
c) The reviews I read about it were great
d) It's very light, despite being huge
e) It's so flat
f) More of a general statement about Android: the way to customize the phone I want it, in every single way.
That being said I can see other, huge advantages for the iPhone, too:
a) Retina, it has a higher resolution than the SGS II
b) A big screen is not for everyone as some people prefer smaller phones
c) I love the glass design of the iPhone 4s
d) More games, more apps
e) Strongest GPU on the market, only rivaled by the iPad 2.
Those are my opinions about both phones, based on personal perception (I even bought my girlfriend an iPhone 4s as she has much iTunes music/movies already) and the technical facts.
As I said, that's just my opinion but I hope that you understand now, why I believe, that there is no definite answer.
I think the 2.x.x is a problem, not being optimized for multi core can affect overall performance since the OS mediates all the function calls but i'm not sure.
And being the hardware and software manufacturer always will give Apple some advantage, they can fine tune the software, i honestly think the Android phone lacks this skills.
But AFAIK custom roms can be more optimized than stock ones, i don't know how, but they usually scores better in benchmarks.
For me it's quite simple. Many people tend to enjoy puzzle games and such on their mobiles (e.g. Angry Birds, Cut the rope), because no matter what more complex games are hard to handle on a touchscreen. If you're that kind of person, then the SGS2 is the way to go: i can't see puzzle games becoming too good for this hardware in at least a couple years, plus the AMOLED screen of this device makes cartoonish graphics look really awesome, and the huge sizes deliver you a great experience.
Otherwise, if you want console quality games on your phone, with a complex story, complex controls and amazing 3d graphics (e.g. Shadowgun, Modern Combat 3) then the iPhone is the only way to go: it will be supported for a long time and its hardware will grow older much slowly because of the dedicated development.
Imho at the end of the day complex games will never be very suitable to a mobile device: controls have to be weird and unintuitive, and will take up most of the screen; also, they're not very suitable to be played on the go. Games like Cut the rope for example are a much better option when you are on the go, they will take much less effort and headaches to be played and in the end will give you more fun. All in all mobile games should be those time wasters we can use while we need to wait for the bus or something like that, a fully blown gaming experience feels out of place imho. I've played most of the high end 3d games to date on my device, but if i think about it most of the times i did i was at home on the couch, while instead i hardly touched them while on the go, when simple games like Trial X or Cut the rope are the best way to have fun imho. In the end you gonna do what i did, and realize that high end games are a waste on mobile devices, because they are so complex and involving that the only way to enjoy them is being at home, where you can have your console/gaming pc and have much more fun. Just my 2 cents.
u want gaming get an iphone
u want a bigger screen get sgs2
u want gaming on a big screen
wait for iphone 5
OR

PS vita
3ds
etc
You can have an idea looking in the SGS1 forums. Probably when SGS3 be out on the shelves, SGS2 will receive the same treatment SGS1 is receiving since SGS2 was released.
^ Very likely right.
The price we have to pay for this open plattform is that there's a high degree of fragmentation. I wish they would make phones a bit more expensive, but stop releasing them so fast.
Then again:
the advantage of Android is, that we don't have to rely on Samsung at all, when it comes to updates.

Ok, i'll write it down in more simple manner, directly addressing your op:
1)Benchmarks mean NOTHING, especially when comparing 2 completely different platforms, ran in a completely different manner. Anyway, fwiw the gpu in the iPhone is about twice as powerful as the one in the the GS2, so expect that the high end games specifically designed to take advantage of the a5 soc will SUCK on the GS2 simply because there's no comparison. They may be ported to the GS2 because it's a well selling phone, this is very likely to happen, but they'll probably have much less detail/effects and will probably lag and stutter. You can't really see that now, but trust me: in a few months some of those will come out, and you'll know i was right.
Even assuming that the GS2 will be fast enough for those (and it won't) they will still run better on the iPhone, basically because Android games are ports of games which were born with the iPhone hardware in mind.
2)iPhone version will always be the one relased first, and also the one receiving more updates/bugfixes (e.g. the iPhone version of MC2 has more maps in the multiplayer version).
Now i'll also write it in caps so that you won't have more doubts about it: GET THE FREAKING IPHONE.
just like what vnvman said

Android also has a much greater market share than IOS (44.8% compared with 27.4%) - its no surprise that the Android Market is set to surpass the Appstore in 2012 as Android IS EVERYWHERE! Developers can earn much more money developing for the majority! .... Apple are seriously worried, releasing this poo iphone and Steve jobs dying aswell. Oh Dear - samsung & google are booming,
Ice cream sandwich is supposed to give our GPU a massive boost, so exciting times.
Apple does seem to get the games first, however as ive said - this is slowly changing, ive also failed to see a game run smoothly on the SGS2.
Browsing, watching movies and playing touch screen games are much better on the bigger screen, with the much better colours. You have to remember, on a 3.5in screen, your fingers dont get any smaller!
I wouldnt go for the iphone, its a poor release from apple, i think its more of a desperate release than anything.
Sure, the screen on the iphone does have a greater resolution, there is no denying this - however, they fail to tell you that this is only noticeable when zooming in 'further than' a double tap zoom. They also fail to mention that the iphone screen as a contrast ratio of 1400:1, the SGS2 is 100000:1 (everyone sees the contrast without zooming in, its the vibrant colours, the depth of colour and the blackest blacks etc)
But half the ram?
No customization?
Smaller screen?
Thicker?
Heavier?
Easily smashed?
No flash still?
No external sd slot?
No hdmi slot?
Underclocked 800mhz cpu?
Smaller battery?
No bluetooth file sharing?
Poor integration to social media?
I could go on...
to me - the SGS2 is a clear choice.

3d intensive high-end game development takes time and I think those games are optimized not the latest but a strong mainstream hardware in mind. I think gs2 have enough juice to deal with any upcoming games for a year or two especially on a 800x480 screen. Iphone pixel count is cca 33% more so needs a 33% stronger gpu for the same performance and cpu performance is inferior. At the end I do not think that in real life gaming a 4s could really show its gpu advantage.

Not a big fan of benchmarks myself, but I have looked into GLBenchmark comparisons between the 4S and the S2. Here are my impressions:
- Both the S2 and 4S are essentially vsync limited for the Egypt and Pro onscreen tests, comparing them therefore is pointless. Although what I would say is it becomes exponentially harder for a framerate to get closer to 60fps when vsync limited, what I mean is it's harder to go from an average of 58fps to 59fps than to go from 57fps to 58fps.
- In the offscreen tests run at 720, you should expect all devices to have a reduced framerate from their native resolution for obvious reasons. The 4S is the only device I have found in the results database (with a lower than 720 native res) where the framerate actually increases. This strikes me as rather suspect and I would suggest that the iOS implementation of GLBenchmark is somewhat ballsed up.
- When I ran a lot of the specialised benchmarks used GLBenchmark what I saw is that actually a number of the tests are vsync capped at 60fps for the S2, so even overclocking the GPU does not increase scores. Somehow the 4S gets around this cap also on the individual tests and so its scores are significantly higher naturally. Furthermore the tests which are capped on the S2 are the ones where it already outscores the 4S. The GPUs on the 4S and S2 are very different and so you would expect them to perform better at different things and this is borne out in the results here.
Essentially what this means is that even with the cross platform nature of GLBenchmark, you still can't really compare the GPUs or 3D performance. I have yet to come across a game that has produced any noticeable framerate drop on the S2 and so it surely fits the purpose at least until the next generation of phones come out. It is only likely to get more buttery smooth under ICS and so I can't see anyone having a reason to complain.
Question boils down to do you want the earlier access to games or do you want the freedom of android? It seems to me we are seeing more simultaneous releases than in the past and the reported numbers from the App Store vs the Android Market are suggesting that Android is catching up fast in revenue terms in which case timing may be a moot point in the near future.

Just got mine, but initial impressions aren't all that positive. The N10 is my 6/7?th tablet, so I think I have some reasonable comparisons (original iPad, Xoom, Acer, Asus TF101,102, Prime, Infinity).
I really dislike the layout of the N10 Android home/back buttons. I use my tablets almost exclusively in landscape mode, so having to reach to to middle of the screen to find home or back buttons BLOWS. I have large hands but I hate having to move my hand rather than reaching with my thumbs - seems so unnecessary. I also dislike Chrome as the defacto browser because it doesn't have Flash and the usual Android stock browser (which is very good overall) isn't loaded - so forced to use other browsers (with their own quirks) that do support Flash. Frankly, until every site on the net is available in HTML5, every device needs Flash support.
While the screen is nice, it's not something I noticed was mind blowingingly better than than the Asus Infinity (nor the Prime for that matter). I use my tablet all day long for reading and I don't find the resolution improvement offers much improvement.
The really nice thing about the N10 is the speaker locations. Makes a meaningful improvement over rear facing speakers on the Prime/Infinity. That said, volume is still too low - have to get an aftermarket app (like SpeakerBoost) to get volume up to decent levels for noisy environments.
Battery life seems good - better than the Asus Infinity/Prime, but obviously no dock to goose battery life a lot more. USB charger is slow on the N10. Asus wins that contest hands down.
Build quality seems good, but Asus Infinity is so much nicer (and thinner and lighter).
N10 offers smooth scrolling so the processor works nicely. Chrome works buttery smooth, but alas, lack of Flash is ridiculous as so many sites I visit still use Flash.
I'll keep for a few more days to see if it grows on me, but I think it's going back for a refund...
That said, if the N10 is your first high end tablet, you'll like it...
Wait a second, so you prefer the build and materials over smoothness and performance? What kind of cracked out world are we living in?
The browser is replaceable and flash is easily implemented so the only thing that you mention is feel and build. Maybe flesh out a little better of why you prefer the infinity or you will end up looking like that pierrekid moron.
You can solve your 2 main issues pretty easily actually :

The same world where somebody could mistake a Nexus 7 as an iPad Mini, before the iPad Mini was even released
The N10 is not using Tablet UI which explains why the navigation buttons are in the bottom-center. Tablet UI since 4.2 is deprecated in Google's eyes.
The N10 is also the "Google" experience, which is why Chrome is included by default. Flash player on Jellybean is not supported, and there's nothing you nor anyone else can do to warrant any kind of support from Google or Adobe regarding such matters. With this said though, there are various methods for getting Flash Player working on Jellybean. On devices that use an older OS (ICS for example), I guess Flash Player works just fine. Also... I run into very few sites that "require" flash player.
And... since this is a Nexus device, you can easily tailor the device to your needs. Your not forced with a lockdown bootloader, unlocking the bootloader doesn't void warranty, and the Nexus 10 is the best device supported on AOSP currently, which means customizing the Android experience should be... relatively easy for anyone (with experience). That button-location thing I mentioned, can be fixed with some modifications.
I haven't owned a Infinity, so I don't know for sure, but I'm pretty sure the Nexus 10 is more "open".
I would take chrome over transformers laggy browsers. They have terrible stock browsers. (Yes, download another one.) Tf201 was a TERRIBLE tablet! Battery was good but gps didnt work, bluetooth and wifi couldnt be used at the same time, wifi had terrible signal. Looked nice but that's about it. Nexus wins this.

Are you being serious? If there's anything to gripe about it's the apps that have not been updated to provide the optimal performance for the N10, you'll have to be patient for the community to catch up to the specifications of the N10. They're beyond amazing when they have proper support compared to older tablets. The image quality is definitely noticeable in this case.

Yes the speaker locations are paramount. They should have always been the standard - which they will be now.
When playing movies using MX Player or playing music through Google Music, I have to turn the volume down as it gets too loud so I disagree with the volume being too low.
You honestly have to have hard of hearing to believe that. Why would anyone in a noisy enviroment not use headphones? The device comes with a headphone jack which would make sense to utilize in such enviroments.
For example:
Listening to music on a portable device such as the N10 when you're in a room with other people playing games (causing lots of noise) and then complaining about the volume being too low is being ignorant. Use your headphones.

You're comparing something to nothing. The pogo charger/dock hasn't been released for the N10 yet so resorting to comparing it to the stock charger, which only takes 5½ hours for me to charge from 0% is excellent for a 9000mah battery, is moot and completely nullifies your comparison. You should wait until Samsung/Google releases the pogo charger and/or keyboard dock.

The only thing that the Infinity would have over the N10 is the microSD expansion slot and maybe the camera, but who takes photos with tablets for art? Congrats.
Screen and screen resolution is inferior
Only has 1GB of ram
An abysmal 224ppi - tablets for that cost should have better ppi for a better picture quality.
Only supports MP3
so on so forth.
Someone who doesn't appreciate the price per power ratio of the N10 doesn't deserve to own one.
Return it and be gone.
Im sorry but you must be high or something. I came from the A500, GTab 10.1, Prime, Infinity then Note 10.1. The only tablet that I would consider going back to which I dont because the N10 is a beast, is the Note 10.1.
The Infinity has lots of problems and we all know what they are. I gladly sacrificed the keyboard dock for the N10 which wil be on craigslist shortly.
If you dont realize what you got there then its best that you do return your N10 and head back to the Infinity/Prime forum.
Oh and the screen... its definitely better then the Infinity in everyway.

The Infinity is 0.5mm thinner and 5g lighter. I can't imagine how a human would actually notice that difference.
Folks,
give the OP some slack here. I can see how someone coming from TF700 would not see the N10 as a quantum leap.
Let me tell you a little secret ... I ordered the N10 about an hr after it went up for sale ... cancelled the order 20 mins later ... just could not think of why it would be so much better compared to the ... drum roll ... the TF101 I have ( I have 2 in the household ).
I am still hoping and praying that Sammy will release what was known as P10 , after the contractually obligated "do not compete" clause expires.
Dock, stylus, expansion slots ... CES may be ? Something that is free of Google's idiotic restrictions ...
Good luck waiting for dock and/or charger for N10
I just have one question:
You said USB charging on the Infinity was better. I had the Infinity for a while before I got my N10, and I could never actually get it to charge via USB. I'm still curious as how to actually get it to work.
I am wondering how you can even compare things that are clearly OS version and app dependent ??
Flash / Browser , yada yada yada ...
4.2 does not support flash end of story, you have to sideload or use something non-stock, it if you want flash to work.
So when you get 4.2.1 STOCK AOSP on the Infinity then you could actually make a fair comparison.

Folks,
give the OP some slack here.

It makes sense to compare a tablet you own to the N10, but to go as far as saying there's another tablet that's factually better than the Nexus 10 with the points the OP claimed are anything but him having buyers remorse and trolling.
The reason I'm not going from the Galaxy Nexus to the Nexus 4 is because it's not a large enough gap in technology to warrant buying a new phone. The OP bought the N10 expecting it to project holograms and provide time travel and was disappointed it didn't so says that an inferior device is better than said device. It makes no sense. If it's not the upgrade you expected, don't blast the device. It's better than any of the tablets he mentioned albeit not a substantial upgrade.
I'm not going around the Nexus 4 forums saying the Galaxy Nexus is better because the upgrades are minimal compared to what I already own.
It's just irrelevant and ignorant to say such things with little to no context other than self-absorbed remorse.
This thread should be closed. It's pointless and disappointing.
I still can't figure it out. Unless build materials and weight is >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> than performance and battery life, which he admitted was superior on the Nexus 10, it doesn't make any sense.
His other issues are easily fixed through the play store or side load.
I wish the OP and and pierrekid would just cut out the BS politics and just come out and say I love Asus or I hate Google/Samsung build materials. Honesty is something that is sorely missing in today's society. Can't say I blame them though, sometimes you have to flat out lie to get ahead.
I myself have owned both a prime and an infinity, and back when I owned them, prayed daily that Google would release a 10inch tablet to the market. When they announced it, I knew I would give away my ASUS counterparts in a heartbeat no matter what. The prime/infinity had such lagginess, even with custom roms, you could tell the I/O suffered immensely
I couldn't be happier with my N10. It's a f*ck*in monster, and the screen res blows away the infinity. Put em up side by side...you can tell a difference.
I would never go back to ASUS again. I can't even believe this is a discussion. There were so many unhappy asus owners, and hell...there still are this very day!
God bless Google and doing the Nexus 4, 7 and 10. They are an ARMY!
Buttons that are centered, can easily be solved in the near future with a custom rom. Not to mention anything else you have as a pet peeve
How would anyone prefer the Asus tablet when it is confirmed it has a poor hardware memory which causes slowdowns and freezes?
Maybe you haven't heard about the I/O problems with Asus tablets...
No way a tablet with memory hardware problems is better than the nexus 10.
Agreed
Had 2 Asus Tf700 and I return both them back..
Too much problem
1-Bluetooth lag
2-It couldn't handle a lot media files
3-Dead trigger was crashing on my device all the time, called Madfinger and they know what to the me.
4-Stupid Asus want to follow Apple footsteps, only one speaker....
Etc.....
The only good thing about the TF700 is the aluminum body.
Glad Google come out with this device..
PS:And don't have to wait for an update when it is released...

I agree with the OP, the nexus 10 is my 3rd tablet(the other 2 are the trasformer tf300 and the Infinity). Both tf300 and the Infinity play somewhat fine with Blu ray movies in MKV format. Hoping for better smoothness and performance in videos with the Nexus 10, i was disappointing to find out the Infinity did better than the Nexus 10 in video playback(using mxplayer pro)

Media playback will improve once media players are updated to support the N10's GPU. I've had to use software rending 5 out of 10 times with the videos I've watched.
The idea of this thread is ridiculous to me. This tablet has been exactly what I hoped it to be. I can actually still use my tablet while updating apps. I can open more than one webpage without immense stuttering (even complex ones), and I can switch between them without waiting an unbearably long time (thank you, 2GB of ram). I can switch between apps with very minimal delay (that is nicely covered up by a system animation). In short - I can use my tablet without it getting in the way.
I guess I can add to that the fact that the build quality on mine seems stellar, and light bleed is virtually non-existent. I love the material on the back. And I haven't had any issues with resets.
This is the tablet that I can just use without getting frustrated. I may eventually want to install a custom rom and theme it (something I have done to every device I have owned in the last 6 years). Heck, this seems like a perfect candidate for one of the "prettier" themes. But right now, I'm just enjoying using it.
Most things you mentioned can be fixed. Use boat browser and install flash on it manually, its really fast and flash works with no problems.
I don't like the stock Nav bar too and use Lmt instead, gives me the full 10 inch real estate and is convenient to use.
This tablet is awesome and I have used tons of tablet in the past, Plus its a nexus device and there is already tons of development in the forums in addition to the up to date android os

I posted this in the Gpad 8.3 thread but not everyone there will have a nexus 10 so i figured id better hands on experience here.
I'm debating a gpad 8.3 or a nexus 10.
Long as the screen size is greater then 8 inches (hence the two options im ok).
I was wondering if anyone had/has both and could tell me about performance.
Specifically the snapdragon 600 vs the exynos of the nexus 10. Ive heard the Nexus 10 having bad stuttering as the cpu/gpu cant handle the screen rez.
I can get a used good nexus 10 on eBay for the same price as the gpad and trying to decide which.
I only do light / moderate gaming. My primary purpose will be video watching (thinking front speakers will be great for it), comic and ebook reading, surfing web, etc..
I've used both for several hours, but I own the Nexus 10. The Nexus 10 seems quite a bit faster doing normal activities, but the LG was 4.2.2 LG compared to my 4.4.2 with pure Android.
That being said, the LG is about one half the weight and thinner with not quite high end camera of the Nexus 10 although I never take pics with my tablet except to look at how good or bad they are. Both are stomped camera wise by my Nokia 920.
I like them both and might buy a LG 8.3, but really they are quite a bit different.

I watch HD videos I copied to internal storage on my N10 and I never seen any stuttering. I watch Hulu with some episodes in HD and no stuttering. I've had no performance issues and its crashed once in the 4 weeks I've had it. I'm on stock 4.4.2 with Franco kernel.

Very similar to my needs, the primary advantage the N10 has it is just plain easier on the eyes on a 10". I also do things like mine on the BBC TV streaming whilst I work on a laptop and the forward speakers are wonderful. For me the biggest weakness of N10 is obvious - its lack of pocketability, something like my N7 does that better, I imagine gpad would be somewhere in the middle. If I were buying new now (I had the N7 2012 first then the N10) I'd go with a used N10 and a new N7 and grab whichever for the day, which is primarily N10 when stationary and N7 when moving, you can use stickmount with both stuff it with videos. I bluetooth tether to my android phone and bluetooth fast enough for non-HD type streaming.
I know you said they are the same cost roughly (new gpad vs used N10) but probably if you bought and sold that gpad you'd be more out of pocket than if you bought and sold the N10 as new-to-used is quite a drop vs used-to-used tends to be less so.... on a per-day of ownership basis you're probably going to find it cheaper with a used N10. Good luck whichever you go for there's always some risk with any purchase whether new or used.
Well I think the lag thing has been fixed for a long time but the stigma has kind of stuck with the device

I did flash stock of 4.2.2. 4.3, 4.4 4.4.1 4.4.2 doing no "backup and restore" so its pure vanilla each time and did the most performance heavy stuff I frequently use. 4.4.2 is the fastest and most stable (others may find different conclusions). Don't do OTA and don't do any Google backup/restore they cause issues. The fact that OTA leaves legacy performance and stability issues is the most worrying because most people do stock and most people do OTA so they're holding in their hands something slower than if they did an ADB flash stock and writing opinions which aren't fair.
My N10 is faster than my N7 2012, my N4 is faster than both but that's because N4 has less than quarter the number of pixels than N10.

I think you're asking the wrong question there. I'd focus on which size is best for you. The extra 2+ inches makes them very different devices.
If you sit with the tablet on your lap and type with one hand, the Nexus 10 is pretty good. But if you prefer to lie down and hold it like a book and type with your thumbs, an 8" tablet is a much better choice. I returned my Nexus 10 and moved to 8" tablets for this reason. Same for watching movies lying down. Your arms get tired eventually.
However I do hate non-front-facing speakers. That does make the 10 stand out for movie watching. And if you're going to set it on a table or your lap, the bigger screen is better.
Hy, i've the nexus 9 full stock.
My cpu temperature, whlie browsing the menus or some simple apps, is usually, 40-45C, sometimes 50C.
While downloading an app is about 45C, but when installing it, it reaches about 60C (is this normal?)
When browsing the web using chrome, the temp is about 65C, rarely 70C,
i don't know if this temps are normal or not, in particular while browsing the web
Do you think that i need to RMA ?
Those are normal for stock with chrome browsing.
Welcome to the wonderful world of the Nexus Heater 9. It's a tablet and a small nuclear reactor, all in the same small package.
But seriously, if those temps are uncomfortable to you and you're not willing to use custom kernels that *might* help, you should probably send it back and ask for a refund.

Well, this temp are not uncomfortable for me ( but yes, it's very hot), my problem is my dubt: is only my unit or is a problem with all nexus 9?
Also, do you think that this temps can be dangerous for the tablet reducing its life or not?
Nexus 9 has serious hardware issues. I've been using it since day1 of its launch and I gotta accept for the money paid, its nothing but a 400$ hand warmer. Might be a great device for the winter :laugh:. On a serious note, proceed with your RMA asap. Quite unsure when the device might fail!

You might. I've just got my device heating up excessively and facing scrambled screen (most likely a faulty GPU) issues. Have already heard from a few about the same issues cropping up. If we had paid 200 quid for the nexus 9, these issues are bearable. But on a premium android device, its hard to oversee these issues. Please try using chrome with high graphic webpages or a GPU intensive game for about an hour and check the temperature/performance. If you still doubt, I'd suggest you opt for an RMA!

So, i tryed dead trigger 2 at max settings (a monster), my max cpu temp was 77C, after i closed the game, it reached 42C instantly
I also tryed heavy pages with chrome with a lot of scrolling, the themp was about 65C, sometimes 70C
I downloaded cpu spy and i saw that the frequency was 2295 (the max) all the time, when it recheas 1500 mhz, it stays at 45C, for example while using facebook i have max 47C
So, at this point, is this a software issue (caused by the stock kernel ans its high frequency) or an hardware issue?
70C is too warm for the hands and I'd suggest you opt for a refund/replacement due to the unpredictable nature of this device!
I'm an occasional gamer and browse atleast 2hours on my device everyday. My device just went kaput in April after just 4months of use. Without the issues, Nexus9 is a winner in my view. Lucky Amazon offered me a refund since HTC couldnt fix even after a month due to lack of spares.
I decided to return it, today, only taking photos, it reached 81C, this is crazy!
Now i don't know what to do, replace it or take another device?
I don't know other devices like the nexus, i had a tab s 8.4 And i don't like it
So your nexus died after only 4 months?? Was it caused by the temperature??

The temps of your N9 were higher than the one I had prior to returning it. Of course, I used the AOSP browser (rooted). I told someone in a similar situation that my temps ranged between 35-50℃ during normal usage, since I don't use Android games regularly. Unfortunately I don't have the relevant screenshots to show you anymore.
Anyway the Tab S2 was leaked, so you might want to wait for it. Tab S1 prices should fall, though BB has it for $200.

35-50C is a good range, bit mine is always at 60C min while using chrome, i don't know if i will buy a tablet, android on tablets is not good, also android tablets are note good like the ipad
Mine wasn't dead. The screen always went abnormal with white streaks of lines or a scrambled screen. When the device got hotter, it just froze with abnormal noise.

i think it has the best hardware available for now, but 70C using chrome isn't good, for my hands and for the motherboard, also there are too issues, if i ask a replacement, there is a chance that i will receive a device with light bleed and other problems, sorry google, you have the best hardware, but you did a bad work.
I live in Sicily, the temperatures here are about 35C at the moment, my device will burn if a use it a lot of time xD
I think i will buy the ipad mini 2, i will change it only when android will be optimized on tablets (android L, i love it, i think it will be awesome in the future)
My budget is 330 €, do you know good devices at this prize?

Android still needs work in tablets, though Chrome is an awful browser. It drains battery like nothing else on PC and OSX, with it also being junk on Android. The AOSP browser is better yet Google prefers Chrome for Android...
You might want to delay getting an iPad until the next ones release. Once those are out the older models will drop in price.

you're right, android on tablets needs work, a lot of work.
Ipads are very good, but i don't know if i will buy it, i love android and i hate ipad limitations.
Also, i think ipads are only good optimized, their hardware is lower than android tablets
I've never been a fan of iOS although apple's tablets had a great build quality. Although great on paper, Nexus 9 never lived up to its expectations. With all the heat and hardware issues, I'm seriously considering iPad air2 given there's no nexus tab this year. For me, If it ain't a nexus its no android! So have to admit, for the 400$ price, the build and performance of the iPad pulls me. Hade it been sub250$… I'd still prefer a new nexus9 and live with those minor hiccups!

i bought mine few weeks ago, only for 330€. At this price, i can only buy an ipad mini 2, but i thinks it's a bad purchase, apple is releasing the ipad mine 4, and the mini 2 will lag a lot with the new ios9 (they introduced multitasking, so devices need more ram). For now, in the tablets word, the best purchase is the ipad air 2, but is more expensive than the nexus 9 ( 100-150€ more)
On paper nexus 9 is a beast, but there are too issues, you need to be lucky to buy one with 0 issues.
For now, i think i won't buy a tablet, i think i will buy the lg g3, a good device, and a phablet more than a smartphone
Hi all, first of all I hope this is the right section (forgive me mods and admins if not.) Secondly I'm looking to buy a tablet running Nvidia hardware for their optimized games and since I'm a Google fanboy the nexus 9 is at the top of my wishlist. I was just wondering as far as hardware goes, which is faster? I know they have the same processor and gpu but the nexus 9's is 64 bit which will make it the winner right? Also is the nexus 9's Kepler GPU on par with the Shield tablets Kepler GPU, and does the Nexus 9 have all the optimizations and benefits of the Nvidia Tablet?
How much do you have to spend? At this stage, if I didn't have a n9 already, I'd be looking into the Google Pixel C
Sadley I'm on a 300$ budget. I know what you mean, the Pixcel C looks like the tablet to have for a power user but I won't have the resources sadley.
I have both the N9 & the Shield tab. IMO the Shield is the better device. This doesn't mean that the N9 is a bad one. But for pure media consumtion like watching movies, videos and ofcourse playing games go for the Shield. In games the Shield performs better and you will never notice any heat. Its also near stock and latest 5.1.1 runs really great. As for flashing roms its not the best option, but you see N9 has also not alot.
But as always its your choice

I haven't seen any reputable stores sell it anymore. It's off Amazon, Newegg, and even Nvidia's site now.
Thanks for the reply! Will consider when buying! Can you explain why the Shield Tablet isn't the best for flashing? That's usually what I like in a device but I can reconsider because I'm looking at these at a gaming tablet standpoint.
Nexus 9 has a lot of problems. I have my 2nd tablet and its still messed up.
