[help] possibly bricked device - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

So I was on MIUI 7 with unlocked bootloader, custom recovery (twrp) and rooted. I wanted to try MIUI 8 so I downloaded the zip version from MIUI website and moved it to my phone then I go to custom recovery. I flashed the rom and before the flashing completed there was a red line of error code saying
'cannot mount /factory'
I thought that kind of error can be ignored but I guess I was wrong and now my phone stuck in MI logo.
I can still go to fastboot,
I can go to recovery,
I don't know how can i go to EDL to reflash with miflash,
when I tried going into fastboot and using adb, no devices detected.
Is this the end of my redmi note 3 life or is there a way ? Please, any help is greatly appreciated.
n.b :
It's redmi note 3 snapdragon version.

Exactly. Sound like your drivers aren't installed correctly. After that you should be able to flash the phone.

That is very awesome! I just finished reflashing back to global stable with mi flash, thank you very much!
So the problems are on my driver? not on the twrp source file or maybe the modded boot img ? because I thought that I forgot to modify the boot.img before flashing twrp

If you're willing to go a little further, you could flash the latest MIUI developer ROM, then re-unlock bootloader and flash the newest build.

I has the same problem with flashing this firmware. To fix this, u have to enter in fastboot mode, then enter on EDL mode, then flash the Global Rom via MiFlash and make all the process to unlock the bootloader again. This firmware sucks.

yep I found some tutorial on fixing this issue. https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-3/how-to/how-to-flash-fastboot-rom-redmi-note-3-t3462402
ended up flashing 7.1.8.0 ROM, i'm just trying to get the phone back working again at this point, I'm not sure if this tutorial will result with me having an unlocked bootloader again or root or what will be the outcome.

redmi note 4 twrp problem: dtb not found

Anyway, once you install twrp using fastboot flash recovery recoveryname.img ,then do not reboot, just keep the device connected and use this command to boot to twrp fastboot boot recoveryname.img

Check here *Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 [Snapdragon] ROMs, Kernels, Recoveries, & Other Development and pick one, flash it.
And do flash cm14.1 firmware if you're coming from Android 6 based Miui.

Eh, there are tons of roms to choose from. As of my experience, if you want more customizations then go for ResurrectionRemix or AospExtended rom otherwise stick to LineageOS 14.1 latest build.
Yep, link to firmware :- https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=817550096634766008
Note that, flash the above mentioned firmware before installing any rom.
how to stay with stockrom? is it really that bad?
and whats the difference between the aforementioned firmware and rom?
thx for the noob question answers

Stock Miui is not bad. Stay with that if you like it. But if you install twrp on stock Miui don't forget to flash lazyflasher or you will get a bootloop.
Stock ROM stable is based on Android 6. Custom ROMs usually base on Android7. Because of that you better flash Android 7 Firmware before flashing a custom ROM.

Either Rename the recovery to recovery.img and Reflash the twrp and try to boot with the command "fastboot boot recovery.img''
Or once it's done flashing twrp, do not disconnect your device, just use physical buttons combo and enter into twrp. Iie; volume up +power key.
Thnxxx for your response
But i have downloaded twrp_mido (twrp 3.0.3.0) and flashed it, this recovery is working fine

[noob] need some help installing camera2api on my redmi note 5

Hey everyone,
Im using the global version of xiaomi redmi note 5 on MIUI 9 and im trying to get camera2api working.
so my phone is unlocked and all of that, 15 seconds adb is installed on my PC, drivers are fine.
But when I try to open platformtools and do the fastboot devices, fastboot boot twrp etc. it doesn't seem to work.
I'm using a vince twrp 3.2.1-0 and everytime I type fastboot boot twrp, it says loading boot img. then says ok but after that it goes on the MI screen and trying to boot instead of going to twrp.
I'm really new to android and need some help, I just want to get camera2api installed on my phone. feel free to suggest any easier ways.
thanks

Is TWRP out for Redmi Note 9?

Okay, I have been looking everywhere... Is Official TWRP out for Note 9 yet? I dont want to install unofficial ROM, and compiling my own version is too much time. If its out, can someone throw me with a link? If not, what do you think, when will they upload it?
Thanks for you answers.

No, no official TWRP out there, yet. I don't know for the RN9 (merlin), but for the RN9s/Pro India (curtana) there are LR TWRP, LOS recovery and PBRP out. For the RN9Pro global (joyeuse) and RN9ProMAX(excalibur) only PBRP.
Don't flash a recovery for curtana on a joyeuse or an excalibur! It could hardbrick the phone and only a service centre or a MI account with special rights to flash in EDL mode (which Xiaomi doesn't give out anymore) would be able to fix that!
There are already many ROMs for the curtana out there, but for the others only a few.
For the RN9(merlin) is a sperate forum here on XDA.
Tried all sorts, none worked.
Until I found this.
https://www.cyanogenmods.org/twrp-recovery-redmi-note-9-pro/
Offered there for Redmi Note 9 Pro / 9s [curtana]
But also works on my Redmi Note 9 Pro Joyeuse.
Backup was created without an error message.
Restoring data also worked correctly.
All other versions had a problem with this and issued an error and the data was of course destroyed.
The misc.bin is important for the installation, which was not included in all other versions
Ps:
Point 8 does not work there,
fastboot oem reboot-recovery
fastboot does not know this command.
Then just by
fastboot reboot
reboot and quickly via buttons
Power + volume up
boot into recovery mode
Thanks!

What ROM does your device use?
@zerodeaths000
Redmi Note 9 Pro – EEA Stable ROM
V11.0.4.0.QJZEUXM
https://mirom.ezbox.idv.tw/en/phone/joyeuse/
If you actually have the ROM QJZEUXM, then your phone is a Redmi Note 9 Pro
Without Pro, it had to have the following ROM QJOEUXM
https://mirom.ezbox.idv.tw/en/phone/merlin/
So never overlook the Pro, Pro and not Pro differ.

Unfortunately, I cant get MiFlash tool to work(Doesn't install the drivers after a long waiting), so I'm going to have to do it in fastboot(command line). Also, I got the .zip version, but if required, I can get the tar file.
Please refresh the forum link I gave here again.
I accidentally wrote Power + Up for the fastboot mode instead of Power + down
Just seen and corrected.
---------------------------------
The * .zip are only for recovery or OTA flash.
For fastboot with flashtool you absolutely need the content from * .tgz
Winrar completely unpacks folders and files that you need for fastboot.
7-zip, however, still displays a * .tar archive, which could then be flashed with the fastboot command line. Not tried myself.
Ps: driver problem maybe an administrator problem?
Start setup as administrator.
Or a snake oil problem (third-party Antivir)?

Got it. I can fix the driver issue for sure. I will try this method, with the cyanogenmod link you gave. I will notify you when its done, because I have 3 more days until I can unlock the bootloader. Hope I won't have to flash the firmware again, and that nothing goes wrong.
One more thing though
"The folder with the extracted files must be on the root of a partition, otherwise there are error messages"
Does this mean that the files found in the tar file have to be extracted directly to C:\ or any other partition?
Partition doesn't matter, it doesn't have to be C :
I get an error message in the not root, probably because the path name was too long.
Didn't investigate further, but copied it straight into the root.
Looks like.
Before that, the folder was on the desktop, which of course made the path name very long.
Maybe the long folder name would have been enough
joyeuse_eea_global_images_V11.0.4.0.QJZEUXM_20200715.0000.00_10.0_eea
shorten by renaming.

I tried downloading a stock firmware and installing it with official Xiaomi tools but I just can't install them for my life, even got a bootloop, thought bricked the phone and that scared me lol. (it failed to install the stock firmware halfway)
My problem relies on the official tool not working and the drivers not working, the tool detected my phone after troubleshooting for like 4 hours searching a driver and trying all the Xiaomi flash tool versions I found, but it just won't install the official firmware, always giving some error.
If anyone here is kind enough to maybe direct me to a guide that works or just tell me what worked for them that would be appreciated, I just want to finally install Global firmware on my phone.
Thanks!

If it's showing timeout error you may try miflash 2018 version. If it bootloop after flashing try miui 14 stock rom.

Okay, just so you know, I installed a miui custom rom from here and have been running that since, so I will need to back up my phone, install miflash and try to finally get back into the stock rom.
When I'm done with that I'll try installing the stock firmware and post it to you

The last time I tried it was the miui 13 but it was not a timeout error, it was weird, I think it detected my phone and all that but when it started installing, it gave out an error when it was maybe half way and hung, luckily I have a custom recovery so I realized I didn't brick it and just installed a custom miui 13 rom from here
Btw I'm not sure if there's miui 14 for the redmi 9s (thats a official stock firmware), all the sites I get to are sketchy lmao

Try batch flashing via fastboot. Paste adb and fastboot.exe in image folder then click on flash_all.bat
MIUI 14 is out for global I'm using it. I also faced bootloop while flashing from cusrom to stock. Then i flashed all miui 11 versions it was still bootloop then flashed MIUI 14 it booted. Currently I'm on MIUI 14 SJWMIXM

Win 10, a few updates missing but basically up to date.
If my pc is the problem I have a laptop, which I never connect my phone to, that I can try on. It's on win 10 too but I haven't updated in a while since I don't use it often

This is what I have, I'm even using the original cable that my phone came with, which is brand new since I don't use it to charge it in everyday use.
One is unplugged, one is with it in fastboot mode
