Battery drain... bad configuration or hardware failure? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I'm trying to save my Samsung Galaxy S3.
I have to charge chinese golden 3000mA batteries every six hours.
After six months, batteries are completely wasted.
It's a battery eater... but I have no budget to buy an S7
Cheap phones have more or less the same features...
... and I love S3 cammera and its user replaceable battery (no more planned obsolecence, plz!)
It has installed Android 4.3, I9300XXUGNA8, kernel 3.0.31-2429075, compilation number JSS15J.I9300XXUGND5
After installing CM Launcher, and moving to Facebook Lite, the battery usage is:
screen 21%
android system 18%
android os 17%
google play services 8%
chrome 8%
gmail 3%
whatsapp 3%
waiting 3%
camera 360 3%
Also, sometimes when CPU is a little bit stressed its temperature raises.* You can feel through bottom zone of screen that it burns... could it be a hardware failure affecting battery consuption?
Any recommendation to have less battery consumption?
I'm open to change the ROM... or to install Ubuntu Touch if necessary
Thanks in advance

Buy this Luminous(LivGuard) Battery and I suggest you to try some custom roms and choose the best rom for you LiquidSmooth KK RESURRECTION REMIX LP RESSURRECTION REMIX MM with Boeffla Kernel Use greenify,Amplify and Disable services(To disable some useless running google play services permissions).

Hi Sureshtuty,
Thanks a lot for your response.
I'll try both the battery, ROMs and apps
I've read these days that Marshmallow comes with Doze mode to improve battery usage
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...t/rom-cyanogenmod-13-nightlies-i9300-t3272811
Do you think that could I save battery with Cyanogenmod-13 (Android 6)
Best regards

Are you sure yours battery have 3000mAh ? Screen use most of energy. Try reduce to 30. You tested other kernels or try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/and...ebf-tweaking-battery-saver-optimizer-t3401341 (most tweak in bulid.prop) ?
For now cm13 is not bad but not good.

Don't go for cm13, its battery hungry. If you want good battery backup use touchwiz ROMs or if you want mm then try haxynox(eats battery but less as compared to cm ROMs)

battery life and free ram battle

ok m done with this battery and free ram issue, my battery life is draining so fast on any of the JB roms, its like 1% on 30sec screen on.
i turned back to try ics(criskelo v6) while the rom is great, i get also a good battery i guess, around 7hours screen on, 6 hours of videos and virtually unlimited standby time. the only cons here is that i have 704mb used out of 784mb , also i removed touchwiz, live wallpapers and some bloatwares.
note that checking battery life and ram usage is done with no apps installation, just on the default roms apps. no special app draining battery.
also, battery is taking over 4 hours to fully charge from 10%, even while the device is powered down and on ac charger.
on JB roms like (omega and criskello) battery is draining super fast and charge super slow, but i have over 250mb free rams, on the other side, on AOSP roms (paranoid) battery life is better than other samsung JB based roms, but i get only 100mb free rams.
ok i want to stick with ICS roms for now, seems like JB roms are not stable till now, but also i still have this free ram issue in any rom, any suggestion for this problem,
-is it a kernel problem?
-is it my battery problem?
Try searching for "free RAM" on the forum and read a few of the literally thousands of posts about it.
Short version; don't care about it. Android reports free RAM different from Windows and BSD-based systems (including OsX/iOS), so it confuses users.
Battery life is an issue with JB, true. It'sbetter with the new Siyahkernel but still completely random and not great.

Galaxy s2 battery consumption too high

hi guys,
i would like to get some help,
i have a galaxy s2 device with a battery of 2450 mah
the device battery consumption is very high (in my opinion)
and i dont know why
ive installed lately the jelly bean official CM nightly ROM
and the comsuming was a little less
when ive installed the 28/9 version it comsumed 15% all day when the device wasnt active at all (no calls, internet use and other stuff)
after it, ive upgrated it to newer ROMS of the nightly releases and the consumption went too high - around 70% battery consumption per day (with no major use of the device)
also ive installed a new moden version but the consumption havent changed
the brightness of the screen is around 30%
how i can make it consume 15% per day again?
thanks!
Hey. So first thing fo you to do is install BetterBatteryStats http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809 after one cycle you should see whats is consuming your battery most and the other thing to do is disable Google Now. Ok you have something to do for now tell me how it goes mate.

cClock high battery usage - Resurrection Remix 4.4.2 on I9300

Hello All
Need help please. I flashed resurrection Remix 4.4.2 rom to my Galaxy S3 that had stock Android 4.3 JB on it. All functions seem to be working flawlessly after the flash, but only battery usage seems to be a bit high. App using high battery show clock signification portion of the charge. Is this normal? Does clock take that much charge? I have disabled it for now and force stopped it.
Attached is a screenshot of the battery usage by different app. Phone disconnected from charge a 73%. At 18% just around 10 hours.

Problem solved on its own. But still battery consumption looks marginally high. I guess I can live with it thanks to super high speed performance now. On stock samsung stock andriod, gallery used to take 5-6 seconds to open. But it just takes a second or two. Awesome performance

strange battery problem

i have installed some roms. when i install for the first time, battery time is good. but whenever charge my s3 for the second time battery drains faster.
Lastly, i installed ArchiDroid V1.7.15. Standby time was more than perfect. on avarage usage, 3,5 days
But after i charge it for the second time, battery drains faster
what is my fault?
Let the ROM settle. use what ROM you want. Charge it few times. It should pass like one week at least tohave a good view on how the battery performs.
Bloatware, apps, wallpapers, startup apps, backgrounds.. they will all consume power.

yes but i install the same apps and system each time
Are you on a cm or Touchwizz rom ?
Personally, my method for having a pretty good battery life is like this :
- After you flash your rom let the battery get empty and then charge it to the max without have it on, just plugged in.
- Repeat this method for at least 2 times and then you will get a good average of what the battery life looks like on this rom.
Keep in mind that each rom have different battery life, because of all the tweaks and optimizations that the developers add to it.
And also, don't forget that AOSP rom ( CyanogenMod, ParanoidRom, etc... ) are slightly less under the official samsung rom in terms of battery life. That's why a large number of people prefer official samsung rom instead of the AOSP one.
I think that everyone does have your problem actually
thank you
i am on ArchiDroid V1.7.15 rom
No problem
interesting, i did it 3 times
3,5 - 4 days standby time with medium usage
when i recharge from zero, it drops 85% in 4 hours, with very little usage
reformat, reinstall ArchiDroid V1.7.15 rom. and it is great again...
i do not understand anything
Maybe you can try this.

But I'm not sure this will work or not. Someone says this is just nothing but waste of time

Battery drain in cm 11 while gaming

Hello guys,
I'm using cm 11 stable (latest) official for my i9300 with boeffla kernel 2.12 cm 11 NG. The system is quite stable as i'm using "Battery saving" profile ie. zzmoove/ battery yank.
The problem is that the system runs very smooth usually except the games. The games on the other hand runs relatively well but all of 'em cause huge battery drain, say for example after running asphalt 8 for 8-10 mins the battery goes down from 80 to 70 or 68%. Even google music drains like hell, too. Same things happened when i was in 5.1.1 roms. I also have powernap, amplify and greenify installed. Other than games the system sleeps well and drains very li'l.
And it should be noted that my stock battery is 2 years old.
So, is it a problem concerning me only, or every one faces this issue? should i go for a new battery?
Anyone plz enlighten me regarding the issue.
Thanks in advance.
Gaming drain seems abnormal
Never tried asphalt 8 but playing NFS:Most Wanted or other battery consuming offline and online games will give me around 2~2 and a half hours of gameplay from 100% so 10 mins for 10% battery is quite abnormal
Thank u very much.. So can it be a battery issue? what do u suggest, should i go for a new battery?
How old is your battery? Because in my device (2 year old battery), i've also encounter battery drain. So I decided to buy new one. As of now, everything seems fine.
Sorry bad english.

Mine is also stock battery 2 years old and I'm no battery expert but I can also feel my battery degrading.
So yours might really be battery issue and it degrades faster due to your usage pattern?
