So what happened was, my original battery died, it expanded and didn't last long anymore.
That's when I replaced it with new battery (from ebay, not sure if I can link it here?).
The issue is, basically my phone wont boot with the new battery.
When I hold the power button, it starts to boot like normally, I see the oneplus logo but then it just instantly shuts down.
Even if the battery is fully charged and the phone is plugged in with charger.
I managed to get my phone working like this:
I plugged in the charger and booted the phone with the original battery, then I disconnected the original battery and managed to keep the phone on, powered by only the charger, then I plugged in the new battery.
That's how it stays on and even shows the correct battery percentage. I've been using my phone like this for few weeks now, but the problem is that I can not shut down my phone. It wont boot with this new battery.
So every time I have to update rom or something like that, I have to put the original battery back. That is a problem.
I have no idea why it wont boot with new battery, cause it otherwise works just fine.
The battery from ebay is colored red and I also have second battery that's called "x-longer". Both of them does this exactly same thing.
If anyone knows what's going on, I'd appreciate if you could take some time and help me. Also sorry for my language, I hope you understand.
Thanks,
Ruuppe
Don't ever trust the battery's from eBay. So many times I've bought 'OEM" or "Original" and been fakes. Just because the wrapper on the battery is the same doesn't mean the battery inside is. Same goes for micro SD's also and pretty much everything else. Spend the extra money and get it through manufacturer. Or a reputable company someone can confirm legit. Send the battery back and ask for full refund.

That's what I did. I got full refund from the ebay battery. And the other one (branded x-longer) is from legit company. The battery works fine and keeps the phone on, the only problem is that the phone wont boot with it. What causes this problem?
Edit: Also, the original battery isn't red like the one from ebay, it's black with some silver.

Hi, sorry for delay on answering. I contacted the customer support, and they said they wont sell original batteries nor you can't get them from anywhere.
They also didn't know why my phone wouldn't boot on these replacement batteries.
So, if anyone has any idea, I would be more than happy to know what it could be.
Thanks,

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Same thing is with me pls help us out to get rid of this problem ....
WBR.
Come on guys
Someone must know how to sort this out??
can it be fixed?
its in warrenty, but not sure if they would be able to tell what i have done
Have you tried just flashing the ROM again?
Can you still enter the bootloader ?
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Athena_Resets
Cant see the phone
hi, i cant re-rflash as when i connect to the pc, it does not see it,
thinking the only way im going to get this sorted out is to return it to t-mobile, just hope it would still be under warrenty, anyway i could cover it,
maybe a magnet stuck to it for a few days might help when they check it over??
thanks
just tried hard reset and bootloader reset again, with batter in, charger in, just charger ect
still no rwesponse
just red ring of dead around joystick, when using charger only
Try this, exactly:
- disconnect any cable;
- remove the battery;
- the SIM;
- wait 10 seconds;
- put the battery back;
- enter bootloader (camera button - pressed down all the way - with comm. manager + reset).
If you don't get the bootloader screen (with various color stripes on the screen), then yes, your Athena's unfortunately bricked.
Nooooooooooooooo
nothing at all mate,
but i guess the battery could be flat,
is there no way to get it to power up,
do you think i could send it away under warrenty?

Anyone near you that can lend you a fully charged battery? Alternatively buy a cheap spare battery.
@onkyojonny
Where are you located?
im near ashford in east sussex, and work in london, if someone can sort it out im happy to make a donation ;-)
thanks
Concerning the return, if you're not able to enter even bootloader mode, all that will be left is to return it, but it's indeed true that if they see your SPL's modified, for instance, they might send it back to you with a "sorry" note. :-S
is there noone on this forum that can sort it out??
rather that than send it back,
Bootloader's the absolute minimum that you need to recover from apparent bricking. If you don't, then I don't know of any "software" mean to rescue your Athena, alas.

Hi
I just had this happen to me, but for completely different reasons. I left my Athena on charge for an hour when the battery was at 10%. It then showed 60%. I then wanted to check that my spare battery had some charge, so I swapped battery and got into exactly the same situation that you have, red light on charger and nothing on either battery.
After reading this forum I tried procedure of taking everything out inc. SIM and leaving it for a minute, still no joy on the 1st battery. Left it again for a minute and tried the 2nd battery and it came to life instantly and booted. The 2nd battery reports 100% charge.
I would suggest that you buy / borrow a battery and try it. It is highly frustrating that you can't use the Athena mains only & swap batteries, but you can't, I tried. If you order a battery (I got one for £11, it is a Cameron Sino which have a bad reputation but it lasts all day, can't argue with that) you should get it tomorrow in the post.
I will see if now that it is working the OEM battery works. It may be that it has not charged properly.
Hope you get it working again.

Follow up, yes it worked when I put the OEM battery back in, still with the SIM out. I have now put the SIM back in and the 2nd battery & all OK. Very unscientifically I would say that taking everything out & using a fresh battery seems to have fixed mine.
yes, one of my (aftermarket) batteries produced the same symptoms just yesterday. it was in a near fully discharged state (< 5%)... so i wanted to put it in the athena and charge it. but athena would not turn on, just the red light. charging did not make a difference.
put the other battery back that was in it previously, it booted instantly, then i put the discharged one in and it still booted and then i was able to charge it up.
note: at other cases i can still boot the athena with such a discharged battery, they have enough juice in them, apparently the problem was something else.
...though i have a desktop charger for the thing.. just didn't feel like trying to dig it up. anyway here is a cheap battery AND desktop charger: http://cgi.ebay.com/Battery-Charger...hZ010QQcategoryZ20350QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem
the charger should charge your battery up without having to buy a new battery (except the seller gives you one as a bonus) and hope it has enough charge in it. might help someone hopefully

Not a rip off on postage either - bargain, so just ordered one as a spare.
Thanks for the heads up.
So I had bought this phone off ebay and when I got it today I tried to turn it on, but nothing happened.
I then plugged the phone in and tried powering it on and still nothing. I tried charging the battery and left it alone for an hour and afterwards the result is the same. Basically when I plug in the phone to the charger, the phone's screen will flash a battery icon as if its going to charge for a split second and then go blank. And then it will flash the battery icon again and then go blank again and it will go on like this for a couple of minutes until the screen finally stays blank.
So as I said even though I leave the phone to charge for a while, it still won't turn on and the only result seems to be that the phone gets warm near the camera. Also I tried to see if download mode works and pressed both volume buttons and I get a brief flash of some words. After doing it for several times I saw it said 'Low battery, cannot download' all in red.
I searched the forum and tried leaving the battery out for a while and also putting it in the fridge to see if anything would happen but nothing. So can anyone help? Is it just the battery?
Could be the battery - if you are on good terms with a local ATT store, try going there and asking if you can borrow a battery from their demo device to see if yours will power up. That's the best cheap way I can think of to rule that out.
Other possibility is a bad USB port. My first device developed a failure at about 2 months - I'm actually on day 5 with my warranty replacement. There is another member here, Moustro I think, who also may have a bad USB port. He and I were wondering if perhaps there was a bad batch out there. I'm not sure what ATT's warranty policy is for items re-sold on eBay, but might be worth checking out...
yeah that does sound like it could be the battery boot loop, take some photos of the battery to see if it is the oem... if it is the oem try a stand alone chager

I live in Canada don't think I'd get much help from AT&T probably.
Also the battery is the original one and not a replacement. I left it unplugged for a few hours and just now plugged it back in and its the same battery icon flashing for a couple of minutes and then blank screen. No charging whatsoever. I tried different outlets and different USB ports on my notebook and its all the same.
I also have an Infuse and charging for that every by every method is just fine so its my SII that's messed up.
If it's any condolence to you, I just bought a brand new GS2 from the ATT store today. The battery was semi-charged when I got it, and when it ran out, I plugged it in and got the same thing you did. Battery is flashing, cannot power it on, even plugged in. I also got the red "Low battery, cannot download".
I spent the better part of 4 hours reloading my apps and email addys, and everything else to get my phone up and running, and now this.
I am going back to the ATT store tomorrow and requesting a different brand new one.
This is my 2nd GS2, because I destroyed my first one in an accident.
Just as dandrumheller was saying. I had simimiar issues where the phone battery would blink on and off even if the charger was plugged in or not while the phone was powered off. The only way I could get my phone to boot to prepare it for warranty exchange was to flash a rom through Odin. But if you can't get it into download mode this wouldn't work.
My suggestion would be to use a different battery. That would let you know if its a hardware issue or bad battery.
hmm...
I was able to to get it to power on last night with what little battery was left. I then plugged it into the USB of my Mac, rather than the charging wart. When I awoke this AM, I have a fully charged battery, and a working phone. I will let the battery run out again completely today and see what happens.
That's great news! I hope it continues to work for you
I would not let it completely run out. Our batteries don't like that. Don't go below 25 percent. I'm glad you got it working. I know you're relieved.

I'm not sure relieved is the right word.
Apprehensive might be better.
We all know AT&T isn't in the best graces with most.
They must be the ***** of Comcast.
Anybody got anymore suggestions?? Can't get it to work no matter what I try.
Call samsung and see if they will honor the warranty? Don't know their rules, but in another thread someone suggested that sale of the phone does not void the warranty.

Max,
Were you able to find a fix for your problem? i bought a SGII from ebay and is presenting the same issue
For what its worth I am able to enter download with NO battery. In fact I ONLY do it without a battery. I just hold both volume buttons and plug in the USB to my computer while not pressing anything else. Without battery.
Thought the OP said he couldn't enter download.... so if that doesn't throw it in download it's more than just battery.

Guys,
I tried this and it worked...
At a last resort, i put the battery on nexus to see if it will charge and DAMN !! it did,, so the battery was not the issue...so i grab a swab with little alcohol then clean the terminals on the battery and the spring connectors on the phone... and voila !!! started charging and keeps working perfectly.
It worked for me, hopefully it will work for you guys.
Glad you were able to isolate the problem.

Same problem
Flashing on for a sec then flashing off, buttons flashed too. Phone got hot around the battery. Couldn't have described the problem better
Took some alcohol, cleaned the contacts for the USB connector, cleaned the battery contacts, and booyah, got the charging symbol again! Problem was, I didn't use the phone for a month, it rode around in the front pocket of my laptop bag, and apparently got the contacts dirty. A little toothpick and q-tip fun later, and my phone started charging again. Thanks -

Really? I've had mostly HTC phones and we could run them down pretty low.. I've been running mine down past 10 and it's been fine.. stock battery.
I had the same problem as op. My last resort was to cut the micro usb end of a spare cable and connected it to the (+) and (-) on the phone itself. since the phone booted up, i knew it was the battery. Next, i did the same thing but (+) and (-) on the battery itself while connected to a computer. i held it in place for about 10 seconds. put the battery back in the phone and it started charging again. im sure it wasnt the safeat thing to do, but it worked. Maybe the dead battery needed some kind of jump.
btw. The wires you would be using are the the black and red. and i got this idea from

I believe these are different types of batteries. Not Lithium, but something else. I bought some spare batteries from eBay and the batteries had the same instructions... That it is not good to let them die completely, and charge then preferably when they still have 1/3 charge left.

Sorry if this has been already posted but I kinda need to express my anger. lol
So my rooted Rezound's battery (running CleanROM 2.3) died today while i was working. So being the dude I am I put it on the charger. It's been on a charger for the past 30ish minutes and it still wont turn on or give me any type of led indicator telling me that the phone is being charged.
Before you say "try a different charger or cable" I have, multiple times.

Advise?
The phone won't charge a that's completely dead right away. Leave it plugged in longer.

There are many threads on this already...
The rezound, mostly ones with a 3.8v battery not the 3.7v batteries cannot charge a dead battery.
Check some of the other threads as there were a bunch of different little tricks people tried. I just don't remember them all.

Sorry to hear about the battery issues. I've heard of alot of people complaining of the same problem. Most just went to Verizon and had them replace the battery but having a phone that dies and won't recharge would be my biggest worry (why is HTC letting these kind of issues happen?).
Some said they fixed the issue by throwing the dead battery in a Thunderbolt for a bit to charge it up. So if you cant find a fix, either have them replace the battery, or take it in the store and ask them to put it in a thunderbolt for like 20 minutes while you wait?
Sorry that I couldn't come up with a better fix for you. I wish you luck.
Honestly I'd take it back to Verizon and get them to replace/fix it.
I just read another post with a possibly fix. I will not be held responsible if it doesnt work or messes something up
Unplug charger
remove battery
plug charger in
insert battery (while charger is plugged in)
except i hit the power with no battery in it idk if it makes a difference but yeah..
^^^ worked for me

I wish I saw this before I paid $14 for the overnight shipment of my replacement.
Mine froze and died while playing a game, then would not charge or turn on at all. In fact, my extended battery was in when it died, and it wouldn't turn on with the standard battery either. When I got my replacement, I tried both and only the extended worked, so I had to go to VZ to get a replacement standard battery. My phone must've used some sort of battery ESP to kill the standard when it died.
Quick side rant and warning: 1. WhyTF am I paying for overnight shipping on a like-new replacement model of a $300 phone that died during normal use? Horse dookie.
2. If you do need a replacement, dont activate a 3g phone during the down time...it kills the SIM card and they dont send another one!
I think I can help
plug your phone into the charger and take off the back cover. Now with the phone plug in take the battery out and put it back in and leace the back cover off now you should see the orange light on the front come on. If this works hit the thanks button.
try the fix listed above and if that doesnt work a verizon store should be able to help you test your battery/phone and order you a replacement under warranty if neccessary
Me personally would wip out some split cables and force that **** on lol but yea batteries can be charged as long as some form of reasonable electricity touch the correct pins....
I had this happen once, my son ran it dead playing games. I think it must have over heated. I was using the extended battery and was able to put the regular battery in and it worked. I did give it a half hour to cool down first...
Sent from the Round Mound of Rezound!
I recently had a replacement handset sent, and before i could revert the old one to STOCK SBF etc, the new one was stolen....so now i can't power the old one up to flash anything to it because i have no battery left. I don't really want to pay $50 or so for a new battery of it just to return to stock....
any thoughts on best course of action?
I fear ATT will ding me the full charge for voided warranty if they see it like this...but they might not, you just never know
Ask them to send you another one before you send yours back?
You will fail miserably, either have them send you one in the maillfirst like the above post says or put a fruitcake on it they might not accept it at the store or if you do it by mail they might bill you for it later lol so be careful
that's a solid plan...i had mentioned battery life sucked and they said try the new handset first. i can tell them my battery life is still very poor and they will probably agree to send me a new one.
I had a similar issue where my batter was too low to flash and I was stuck at the Moto screen. I went out to Best buy mobile (could be any celluar place ie AT&T or something) and told them I was updating my phone and it rebooted and got stuck at this screen and drained my battery I asked if they could let me charge the battery in one of their atrix's. They ended up giving me a new battery, hope this helps you if the other way doesn't work out for you.

This.
Or grab a USB cable you dont want, cut it open, and tape the red wire to + and the black wire to -. Let it charge for a few hours and you'll be fine.
Most stores don't carry an atrix battery at this point...
Charging with USB does no good cause I don't have a battery so it won't power up.
And getting a new battery from ATT may not work cause they want the imei which I don't have!
Hello Everybody
My phone was working fine until last night when the battery completely drained while i was playing a game and it turned of. After that i plugged it in and went to sleep. i woke up this morning and tried to turn it on and nothing happened. I took the battery out put it back in and it started charging. i left it there for 20 minutes and when i came back the phone is completely dead. no response. won't charge, wont turn on, wont vibrate. nothing
so if you could help me out with the problem that would be great. thank you.

Thanks for your help. I just got done testing my battery in a friends s4. Its not the battery. His battery doesn't turn on my phone and my battery is fine in his phone. Its my phone that has a problem. Any other suggestions you might have will be really helpful. Once again thanks.
Well, if a charged battery isn't making it turn on at all, then the logic board is probably malfunctioning/hard-bricked. The only solution to that is to replace the logic board. Your best option, if you are in warranty, is to contact customer support and have them send you a warranty replacement. If not, the best option is to purchase an S4 with a broken screen and swap out the logic boards (better be comfortable prying open your device).
Thanks for the help.
