Z Camera - Moto Z Questions & Answers

I loved, and still live my MXPE camera. This one seems a little lackluster comparatively. Any found a setting that needs tweaked? It seems very software related.

I haven't had any issues, I miss the old layout but I changed the option from shutter button to tap anywhere and it feels better.

Aside from redoing a point and click to help adjust light, no, haven't discovered any big tricks yet. Pro mode doesn't add all that much. Related to camera, anyone get scratching on cams lens? I had it for two days and kept in soft sunglasses case, and already it's covered in microscratches, my note 4 has been abused for a while now and has zero, little disconcerting

Mid-light seems to cause real dramas for the Moto Z camera. Bright or low light no problems but there's some terrible shutter lag in mid-light. It can be easily overcome by going into Pro mode and increasing the shutter speed (at the expensive of added noise) but it's a shame it's not been turned to this setting out of the box.

The same story here, after 2 days of careful usage, I noticed two scratches on the camera glass that's supposed to be made of gorilla glass 4, the best way I found to deal with it is to put a dbrand skin on it, costs just 99 cents, it just arrived today. Another thing about the camera, is it just me, or it seems slow to react to movement, like when in the camera app you move the phone and the image on the screen moves real slow a second later, like back in the day on cheap Chinese no brand phones:laugh:, doesn't happen all the time though, hard to say what the reason for this behavior might be.

That "slow to react" thing is the image stabilization catching up, can be worse sometimes than others. And I would get a protector for my lens if it didn't create a whole other layer of light refracting scratches. This lens is like putting little tike wheels on a sports car, totally embarassing in design and kinda unacceptable

Then there's this, Not happy with how easily the lens scratches. I don't abuse my devices...
So baby that thang if you want the camera below the crappy shield to work

Nexus 10 back loose/ creaky?

Hi guys,
My Nexus 10's back, on the left side when facing the screen, has a slight creak to it when pressed. Does anybody else's have this (it can be slightly hard to find at first)? I'm curious, as I'm not sure if there is a DIY way to fix it, and whether or not it is a common occurrence.
I get a click or two from the removable strip but I assume that is just it moving in its seating. Very minor and not a problem. I ignore it.
Yeah, I have that, too. Nothing seems to indicate that the cover is loose somehow, though. Seems to me that it's just the rubber. I wouldn't worry about it. Of course, I wouldn't go choking it there, either.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using XDA Premium HD app
I too get a "Crack Sound" or creak when I grab my tablet from the left side.
Mine is same although my removable strip actually has a probg yhat won't go it so it juts out... Very annoying but I have a case.
So, besides the creaking sound (which doesn't bother me too much), my back actually has two "bubbles" where the back material meets the dimpled strip, and when you look at the tablet top-down, you can actually see the two gaps where the rubbery material is lifted up higher than the dimpled strip. The "bubbles" are basically directly above the "N" and "S"...
I'm assuming this isn't normal and should probably go get an exchange at the store, right?

My left rear has a little more give than the right. Otherwise, the build is clean and sturdy. Did hear a noise once when i was gripping it at a funny angle. Of course if I grip my Vivid wrong the rear plate falls off and the battery even drops out at times. Overall I am very happy with the construction of my nexus10.
like this?

I got my N10 yesterday and I found two problems.
1. The back is really loos. If I press in the middle of the back cover it wobbles and make click sound.
2. There is some light bleeding at the bottom right corner of the screen.
Are these things normal? Or should I exchange it.

The back is fine. As far as light bleed, it's a common problem. How bad it is depends on how much it bothers you.

I got exchange.
i get some slight play in the back but compared to the note 10.1, this thing is build like a rock
I received my Nexus 10 at the end of January and have just ordered a replacement...
The creaking and cracking from both sides of the back (directly behind the speakers) is horrendous when I gently squeeze the nexus, for example to lift it - I can usually just ignore these little things, but this is just too bad!
I have a Galaxy Nexus and I love it...the build quality is superb and the fact the Nexus 10 isn't up to the same standard is disappointing.
I will upload a YouTube video to demonstrate it...as I've not seen or heard anyone having creaking this bad...
When I receive my replacement, I'll update this topic. The only saving grace was the Google RMA process was flawless IMO.
CASES
I used to get it too but i figured out a way to fix it. Wanna know how? lol Get a nice smart case by Poetic or another brand you prefer. I know theres a thread designated for all the accessories for nexus 10.

Keep us updated!

In general, problems with macros are: it's hard to get enough light, very shallow focus, hard to hand held without shake and with x15 magnification, probably a lot of distortion, so I would be surprised if it worked well, but sure, let us know how it comes out.
Looks like a lens pickup from a cd drive. These were used in projects for the iphones for the same purposes to.
Holding still enough locating the spot you want, adjusting height is frustrating unless you have a stand for it.
The it's unlike to be matched to the notes cam, so either you use only part of the sensor or the lense ...... just the usual problems with optics.
and how often can you safely de-/attach it, how do you center it.
I bought for fun a 40x microscope addon for ~3€ with whiteh/UV LED, and thats why I wrote the above.
Use of similar lenses of defect CD-drives have been described for the iphones.

That's exactly what it is, an acrylic asphere used for cd/dvd players. The collimator from a dollar store laser pointer should work as well.

All The Issues i Have had with my LG V10/mini review

Let me start by saying that i bought this phone only 3 days ago and these are the problems I've found with it.
1. The Second screen back light issue. This is a common problem among many lg v10 users as i have noticed, and i have that same problem too. to the extreme left of the second display it is brighter than the rest but only when it is off. I do not find this very annoying since i do not use the second display for reading my notifications while it is off. i mostly use it when the screen is on
2. In addition to that, the power button/ fingerprint scanner combo is completely garbage, as in the actual clicking. the button seems loose and when i click it, it squeaks. Also, when i run my finger up and down the power button it wobbles and has the same annoying squeak.
3. The charging port is loose. Not so much that the cable could slide out not in that axis, but it moves side to side freely and up and down. this worries me because i think that if i put too much pressure on the cable the port could break somehow.
4. The steel bezels are nice and stuff but the gaps, are uneven at the bottom left, the metal bezel is like bent and you can easily see through it. also at the back when you pop in the cover it seems like it doesn't align with the bezel. but that might just be my ocd lol
This phone in my opinion is great the best phone I've had. but its just that these things are what let me down. This phone is great but they absolutely ruined it with the quality control. note* my batch is from January 15, 2016
U probably just got a bad one. Sometimes, they make it thru the quality control somehow. I would return it until u get the one ur satisfied with.

Yeah I think I should but I'll wait until the weekend and decide if I should change it.
Probably a good idea. The flaws won't change. I have the lightbleed on the 2nd screen, but I never notice unless it's absolutely pitch black where I am and the screen is off. It doesn't annoy me tho.

I like the phone, maybe I love it. I have the same problem with the residual light on the left of second screen. (phone batch 26 Oct.2015) But, what I dislike the most:
1. The lack of a LED on the front.
2. The second screen, about my opinion is useless until then a developer create an xposed apk for a flashing light on second screen when I loose a call.
3. The fingerprint sensor is useless too for me.
4. Volume of the speaker is not too loud.
But, I like the size and the shape of the phone. It is a catch eyes everywhere I go. Benchmarks are very good for a Snapdragon 808. The screen is very fluid. And the most, the camera and his software are great; you believe or not I compared in photoshop pictures from an expensive Sony semiprofessional DSLR camera with photos made with my V10 and the overall quality are quite the same. It's the best phone I ever had (and I had a lot of top level androids)
I don't want to change it, even on a G5!
H961 dual SIM, rooted, debloated.
The light bleed is a common issue, but everything else sounds like your phone was assembled incorrectly, you should exchange it
Okay so today I was wondering if I could find any more nit picky problems and noticed that the back cover did not sit flush with the buttons and that if I pushed it down it became flushnot a big issue but it bugs me when I'm turning up the volume or turning on the phone

Well I exchanged a week ago and now that the time limit to return it is over, it cracked, not from a drop. It just cracked by itself there is a small hair line crack right by the metal rail and if is so annoying I paid good money and I take care of my phones well even if this was made to be tough. It cracked while I was in the car waiting for someone and then out of no where I heard a little pop and I thought nothing about it but after I finished watching the video I noticed it and got so scared I was like"did I drop it" but I did not idk how it managed to break I haven't dropped my phone yet and it just cracked out of nowhere

Camera dust

I got some dust particles on the inside of the lens which really annoys me. Due to this the camera does not focus correctly.
I really want to keep the phone waterproof so i am afraid to take it apart to clean it. Anyone experience similar issues or even swapped the backcover? Any recommendations for a backcover that ensures waterproof ability after swapping it?
thanks!

If you're getting dust under the lens you're obviously not water tight. I have ordered a replacement back and it cracked just picking it up. I don't know how fragile the original is but I'd be very careful while removing it. New seals can be bought for a few bucks.
not sure where this came from - the body is 100% waterproof...maybe "dust" particle is not the correct explanation
maybe is scratch dots from keys in you pocket?
it abit look like dust...
i mixed my pockets by mistake and left few dots maybe u did it lots of times.. ( i know the lens is plastic and not scratch resistance ) so i try to avoid keys in the same pocket

the scratches on the outside of the lens are no problem since the sony coated this and also polishing is working quite well. also i checked this several times with a magnifier.
i have uploaded a picture of the particle that causes the faulty autofocus. at the picture on the right you can see that this is on the inside of the lens.
since the phone is waterproof this is quite clearly a production fault but since i need the phone for my everyday work and life issuing a rma at sony is no option for me.
i was just wondering is someone else experienced anything similar or swapped the backcover and tested waterproof
You can test your waterproofness of your phone to do the pressure test in the service menu.
Go to dialer and dial *#*#service#*#*, go to service test and then pressure sensor. The value indicated on the screen should increase by pressing on your screen when the phone is still waterproof.

How much does yours go up? Mine started at 997 millbar and goes up to 1002 millbar max when I started seeing discoloration from pushing the LCD too hard.

that's fine. Mine is also just a few millibar. try it with the simtray flap open. It won't increase a bit.

Hi
I have had the same kind of dust in my XZ5
I sent it back and they have exchanged with a new device.
Manufacturing issue... It could happen
Sent from my HTC 10 using XDA-Developers mobile app
since sony support couldn't offer me an adequate solution for their manufacturing error I decided to find a solution by myself.
primary most important was for me that i do not open the device.
I got rid of the particle by freezing the phone in the freezer for 20min and tapping on the lens. The particle fell off and now somewhere i do not care about )
if someone has a similar issue this might be also an alternative solution
Same problem here. It supprises me the presition in which this product was conceived with programmed obsolescence. Just after guaranty ended I began to notice blurs and dust.
I suppose gaskets became less performant as they get harder and they can't hold pressure changes anymore, like when you take a plane or enter a tunnel in a train.

I have the same translucent gray dust spots on my rear camera, and tapping and bumping with strenght makes them moving around. Of course this is programmed obsolescence.
Moreover they fill phones with glue and adhesives for "water-proofness" purposes... but after 2 years of daily use, noone sane minded would submerge any phone and if you have the need, you can't easily fix anything inside the phone or change battery if you aren't a technician , because you have to use professional tools to melt glue and move parts.
That's the current world of "water-proof", thin smartphones.
Something must change if we don't want to swim in oceans made of electronic rubbish in the near future.

Considering an upgrade from v20 (got some Qs)

I really fancy LG phones especially post v10/g4 fiasco. I am debating upgrading between two devices. The Note 8 and v30. Had the Pixel 2 had expandable memory and a headphone jack I would have picked it against all others since they get the latest updates the quickest.
My v30 concerns are the following:
- glass back (what a stupid design, whats the point when you are going to wear a case that hides it anyway?), how is it holding up on this phone? Can it take falls?
- camera quality vs v20, better? Same? Worse? I am more concerned about the rear camera not the selfie camera but want to hear about both.
- the big one, battery life. Since I am going to have to give up one of the best features of LGs previous phones does this phone last all day with Bluetooth connected and playing music? I like the v20 cause I've got an extended battery so I don't have to worry about stupid mid day charges.
- "secondary screen" replacement software. Does it work as well as the real thing or is it just a pain in the ass? This is specifically for the folks that used the second screen on the previous generations.
.. And finally those who've upgraded from the v20 would you do it again? What's the pros and cons between the two?
Thanks for any input! [emoji2]

I upgraded from a V20 to a V30. The selfie cam is definitely worse, but the rear camera is at least as good if not better.
I find the battery life to be nothing short of stellar on the V30. Yesterday I had 17 hours off the charger, with 5 hours of screen on time when the battery hit 15%.
It seems to be pretty tough for a glass phone, but it's absolutely more fragile than the V20. I highly recommend using a case. I had a few minor drops without one and the metal edges will get dinged or scratched if it hits there in a drop. A few people have reported breaking the glass on the back, as well.
The floating bar in combination with the always on display is a decent replacement for the second screen, but I personally don't like having the arrow button on screen all the time.
The thing that I miss the most is the IR blaster for controlling my TV and sound bar, actually. I also think I slightly prefer the 16:9 aspect ratio of the V20's screen. Videos appear larger than they do on the 2:1 screen of the V30. The V30's OLED definitely blows the V20 LCD away, even if it's not as nice as a Samsung display might be, however.
Overall, I'm really happy with the phone and I'd upgrade again. It feels an entire age more modern to use this phone. The biggest change I noticed was the speed. Opening apps and multitasking and doing everything happens noticably quicker.
Oh yeah, and I still can't get over how dang lightweight and easy to hold the V30 is. It really did feel insubstantial at first, but I don't think I could go back after getting used to it.
I came from the v10 to the V20 to the s8 less than a month (HATED IT!) And now to the V30.
Love it all around except for the front camera which seems like it went from a great camera to an average one.
I absolutely loved the 2nd screen on my V20. But it's not a deal breaker not having it. The floating bar thing is annoying to me.
It's also faster, it seems. Better looking phone. I hate glass casing around phones but I always have a tech21 case so meh
Screen is awesome on the V30. Much improvement. However, I'd like the 16x9 ratio back as well but you wouldn't notice if someone didn't tell you.
Battery seems great now, but it's too new to tell how the battery degrades over time. I was having to charge my V20 2 or 3 times a day.
This is also the first device I've ever ran without root, adguard is the gift of that.
I miss the ir blaster somewhat. Overall, you'd be very happy if you went from the 20 to the 30
