Hi all, just a quick question about the lockscreen finger print scan. When I set up my lockscreen for when I use it, every time I set it up, I have to do the finger print scan for extra security, I have a finger print saved from when I set up my phone ( I just recently got it). My question is, why can't I use the finger print that I have saved on my device, instead of always having to do it each time I activate my lockscreen? Thank you for any and all replies.
Are you asking why you have to place your finger on the scanner every time you want to unlock your phone?
That's simple. Placing your finger on the scanner is faster and less complicated than typing in the password or PIN every time you want to unlock it. It's a security feature. If you didn't have to put your finger on the scanner then ANYONE can pick up your phone and access its contents. The reason you "save" a fingerprint is for the phone to know that it's you trying to get in and not some random person.
There are a few ways you can avoid placing your finger on the scanner.
1. You can disable the security lock altogether. This leaves you vulnerable to unauthorized people looking at your phone.
2. You can set up a trusted location such as when you're home. This will make it so you don't have to place your finger or use you PIN, pattern or password to unlock. I would recommend this if you live alone or you don't have anything to hide from a spouse or partner.
Frankly, if you have to press the power button to activate the screen, it takes less than a second for it to read your fingerprint and unlock.

Is there a way to disable the sliding finger method to unlock? If i set the lock to none it just doesn't use either pin, patter, password or fingerprint, but the sliding finger always gets there.
on some other phones i have seen some apps but from what i have read they are not stable. When i hit the power button i want to go straight to the home screen.
Maybe there is an .apk i can freeze on titanium backup to make this work.
Have you tried NoLock from the market?
NoLock works well but I prefer Widgetsoid. It gives you a toggle for the slide lock, lets you add a button to any homescreen to lock the screen, as well as toggles for most other common activities, including ring, vibrate or silent.
i am testing nolock some people in other forums said they were having stability problems or that it stopped working. so far it works.
No lock 100%, and the widget works well (since I have security finger swipes) to toggle quickly on, or quickly off.
Not what you're looking for, but figured it's worth mentioning for anyone that might be interested: Widgetlocker gives the option to unlock using the back button. The slider seemed to generally work consistently, but the back button is a slight bit quicker and always works for me, which is why I like it. I personally like having a lock screen for just checking the time and such, though I can see why some people may not care to have the lock screen.
The method with slide to unlock is redundant and annoying. How to remove slide to unlock?
I'm in the same boat.. every time I try to turn on fingerprint unlock, I still have to slide to unlock.. I'm missing something here..
I don't get it. When you have finger print as your unlock method there is no slide to unlock. They are mutually exclusive, you can't have both.

I have experienced the Slide to Unlock screen when I have a paired bluetooth device that I have listed as trusted. I think this is what these guys are talking about, and it is annoying. I wish it would just unlock to the home screen.
I think you should upgrade to latest firmware, i never got slide to unlock screen when i use finger screen function!
Look attachment!

Slide to unlock shows when you use the smartlock feature to keep your phone unlocked. It's there to prevent you from butt dialing someone.
Go to secure lock settng > secure lock time and set it to instant.
That way every time u lock your phone it will ask for finger print and will unlock right away

This man probably has it, your phone will not go to the lockscreen when fingerprint security is checked unless you enabled trusted devices and are near one. It should in that case simply go to the home screen as it does on most devices when similar schemes are enabled but it instead switches to swipe to unlock making the whole thing not only pointless but more work then never enabling trusted devices at all.
Its either a bug or stupidity, hopefully they get it changed.
Make sure you don't have any trusted bluetooth devices set up. If you do, you'll always have to swipe whether fingerprint authentication is enabled or not.
Aha!

Ha- that actually does work as a workaround, but sorry... What I want (and think OP is after) is to just turn off the swipe.
If the phone if unlocked, show me the home screen.
I want to take the risk of the buttdial!
Use case- pick up unlocked phone, press the side button, see home screen. Not swipe to get to home screen.
Don't know if that's a feature request or a rant or just a bit of both.

I tried to use No Lock Home module for Xposed instead of built in Smart Lock. But it doesn't eliminate Swipe to Unlock either.
I had my S6 set up to just require a pattern to unlock. Worked fine for the first 6 months I owned it. But since I allowed Samsung to upgrade my software, a swipe is needed before it will allow a pattern unlock. This happened to my wife's phone too. Thanks for the ****ing annoying "upgrade" Samsung.
I recently joined android with the s6 edge. I set up the fingerprint scanner password but it ONLY asks fo it when my device has been cut on, or has been locked for a while. when i lock my phone and and hit the home button it says swipe to unlock. how can I get it to where it immediately asked for my fingerprint every single time I want to unlock my phone? Everyones ive seen already does it.
Go to lock & Security in settings and then secure lock settings and make sure its set to lock immediately with power key
Hi, I just installed AppLock with the intention of making as easy as possible the access to the phone (no lockscreen or just swipe to unlock) and use the fingerprint sensor to protect the most sensitive apps and functions in the phone.
I must use a lot the phone with thick globes so its the easiest way to have a quick access to the basic functions: gps, maps, camera...
But it seems Android erases the fingerprint usage when there is not password, pattern or finger lock method in the lockscreen. I dont understand why is this so critic when an unlock pattern /pasword is also required to change the most common unlocking options at the configuration menu.
Is there any option to keep using the fingerprint on apps (as AppLock) with an unlocked phone?
Thanks a lot
Is anyone here using the fingerprint unlock facility with a >80% success rate? I find that, at least 50% of the time, when I place my finger on the button I get presented with the PIN screen and a message saying something like "device locked by administrator". I've tried re-learning my fingerprint 3 times but it didn't help. The Smart Lock using my Asus Zenwatch is no better - in fact it works <25% of the time.
Is anyone here having better luck?
I have had no problems unless my hands are really oily after working on a car or if my hands look like a prune after a shower or something. I've been using the finger print scanner since I've had the phone.
Mine works 10 times out of 10 it's soooo accurate, without compromising in speed, I think it's one of the fastest scanners available
Used it from first day I got phone and no problems. Works 100%.

Hmmm...maybe the problem relates to me using Nova Launcher???
I use Nova.

I use Nova Launcher too and have no problems! 100% reliability!
But i have scanned all my fingerprints twice ( two finger profiles for every finger!) to get better scanning identification.
BTW: I have protected "FingerprintASM; & FingerprintAuthenticator" Task against battery optimization to get better results.
So fingerprint recognition is a little faster after a long time of device sleeping period.
Mine works perfectly, 100% of the time.
"Settings > Fingerprints and Security > Phone Administrators" One or more apps there have been enabled with "Lock the screen" permission and you're triggering its method to get that prompt.
System-based locking methods don't get that prompt, e.g. screen timeout, double-tap on status bar, hitting power button...
Any method that hooks into the lock process by this admin permission usually prompts for the code as you found. For example, my launcher (Smart Launcher Pro) has a double-tap to sleep option if enabled as admin. However, it asks for code even on successful scan every time. I keep the status bar visible and tap it instead now.
Take a closer look at your admin list and evaluate apps - whether to uninstall, disable admin permission, or try to turn off that lock screen setting only inside the app(s).
Also consider registering main finger(s) at least twice as @non-toxic noted above. I had about 80% successful scan rate and that trick got me to virtually 100%.

Thanks. It turns out that Nova had admin permissions. I've disabled them and now fingerprint unlock works fine. I also had another app/widget installed - Screen Off and Lock. This was a useful widget that I positioned in the bottom left corner of the screen so that I could easily turn off the display with my thumb when I was using the phone left-handed. Unfortunately that caused problems for fingerprint unlocking as well.
Does anyone know of another way of turning off the display with one tap near the bottom of the screen? I know that double-tapping on the notification bar will do it, but that's usually a 2-handed operation.
It's worked pretty well for me. Maybe the scanner is just dirty so you could wipe it off before trying. If the problem persists, I would suggest that you delete the fingers recorded and just save new ones.
