Try to play with animation settings in developer options. Can make it more smoother.

thanks for the thought
but I was talking about , switching between panels in both home screen and app drawer and time to launch settings app or recent app menu... its fast and all but just doesnt quite feel as smooth for a Z5 that has SNAP dragon 810 or 820 i cant quite remember and for a 64bit chipset its disappointing

Tablet UI

Just for kicks (and because the half phone/half tablet ui really bugs me, takes up too much space with bars on both the top and bottom of the screen), I went ahead and built a 'stock' JB 4.2 AOSP rom for the N10 with the tablet UI enabled (thanks to the N7 thread on XDA for the modification details!). (Check out the attached image!)
It seems to work well, and it's a very simple mod (though I've hardcoded it to test it out) Would be nice if some of the future custom roms could come with an option to choose the UI at some point!
Here's the link to modifying the source to enable the tablet UI for any of the dev's out there interested:

Awesome.
Awesome. I can't wait to get mine (ordered yesterday).
Can the navigation buttons be flipped?
Does editing the LCD density in /system/build.prop not work for 4.2?
Can't you go back to full tablet UI with the app drawer button at the top? The empty hot keys navigation area looks strange. Also, you mentioned custom roms making it an option...doesn't Paranoid Android already do that?

Didn't try. I'm not a fan of that since it breaks other apps, this doesn't chance the density, so at least everything that would run stock should still run.

The launcher doesn't appear to have the app drawer by default (at the top of the screen), but if I install something like NOVA launcher, you get what you're looking for.
Paranoid does apparently have options to choose the ui mode, but I haven't seen that ROM for the n10 yet. Got a link to it???

I thought I heard that Tablet UI (via DPI change) wasn't possible as of 4.2

Yeah, simple changes to the order of buttons in the navigation_bar.xml file would change the order of those buttons.
As I mentioned, I'm just messing around with the AOSP code, and hope a 'real' rom will come out with the option to switch to tablet mode!

I don't think it's out for the N10 yet. Coming soon from what I read. I was just point out that the ability does exist in roms, it just needs to make it to the N10.

Sliding Messaging

Hey guys! I just downloaded Sliding Messaging pro and i'm loving it but its a little slow opening on the DNA and a little laggy...is that a sense 4+ thing or do i need to disable something? sorry tried to google but didn't see anything...Thank you for the help!
I was messing around with it a bit and doing "Advanced Settings -> run as background service" really helped opening time, but its still laggy with animations..help?

Hey man, I use sliding messaging pro as well. I think it is pretty fast overall. I have the DNA as well, and i like the app.
Their are a few bugs still in the app, and it could be quicker, but overall its a nice package..
If you have issues go to the play store and scroll down to the bottom where it says contact developer and shoot him an email.
He responds very quickly.

Thank you for the quick response! I will shoot him an email if i find a problem. I was just curious if i was the only one with lagginess. Are you finding animations laggy?
I did post on their/his xda thread about having the run as background service on by default because it makes a whole world of a difference in start time.

Try turning on/off(whichever one it currently isn't) the force enable 2d gpu rendering option in developer options.

I used that program since it was first made and posted here on XDA. Has always lagged after a while. Think it has to do with the cache. Don't think that will ever change, unfortunately.

Tips on making SGH-i527 snappy

Aside from turning off animation, is there anything else that can be done to improve UI performance(snap) on this unit?
I heard and read somewhere if you use nova launcher to change the icons (UI) instead of using the touchwiz (UI) ones it will be quite a bit faster i heard, i have not tried it myself yet .

As per your recommendation, I downloaded and installed Nova launcher.
As it turns out, I liked it so much that I bought the Prime version.
Excellent util.
If you have Nova and take out 'icon labels' it even makes it snappier, not for some people but it does help even further. I really like touchwiz but the lag is awful.
Nice to hear that I am going to have to try it also then and see it for myself..enjoy it forsure as it suppose to make the mega more snappier.

My particular unit is from Bell mobility.
Any idea what would be considered bloatware on those units?
If you don't use it... it is bloatware
A good practice is to disable or hide as many apps as possible, and if you have to enable them or un-hide them... keep them.
bloatware for some = essential utility for others.
I love using my phone as an IR remote when my significant lady has the real remote in her hand... take back the power!

Good point. I posted a list of all the stuff I disabled in the benchmark thread. Ive since disabled even more. Hiding the apps does nothing to free up resources. These is a ton of apps that would really never get used.
True... hiding apps does nothing for performance... but hiding is sometimes a "better" option for the squeamish.
I use the same idea for possessions... put things in storage... if you dont use them after X amount of days/weeks/months then "delete" them.
out of sight, out of use, off of phone soon after

Go into developer options and set the animations to "0"..
If you don't see the developer options, then you need to go into SETTINGS - MORE - ABOUT DEVICE and tap the build number a bunch of times and you'll get a message that developer options have been enabled.

Don't think it's possible ,tried the stock gestures, but ended up switching to fluid ng. They were too inconsistent, and I didn't like the animation for the back gesture, also using fluid ng brought back the ability to switch between the last 2 apps.

I tried fluid ng, but sometimes the vibration in gesture navigation continues to happen. For me it happens very ofen when coming from the lock screen.

you have to disable the stock gesture navigation and revert back to the three button configuration, after that you follow the instructions in the Fuid NG app and then you will hide the stock navigation bar.

Yes it is!
I got the pro version and made the gesture animation 100% transparent and turned the system animations to 1.5 in developer options ,all the animations on the stock launcher feel so smooth and fluid almost like the iPhone .

[Q] how to get rid of the blur effect in the quick settings drawer in One Ui?

Is its possible?
its driving me insane - it makes my s9+ feel like a cheap laggy phone - what a terrible useless effect.
Do you mean you pull the status bar? Because I like to have it and using Swift installer to do this
I mean this blur effect here

Just a wild guess but it's probably just the pixels turning on

I didn't say it was a solution to the blur thing you mentioned. I just said your issue, plus the slow switching animation are things bothering me in Pie and cannot solve it.
Also tried with different themes, but none of them modified those things

I don't think this is possible to remove the blur. It was introduced already in the good lock app quickstar on android 8 and now they added it as default.
when I pull down the notification bar there is no lag though. But I am using the feature "reduce animations" which I really like.. way better than setting animations to 0 in dev options..
Is there any way to make the icons in the quick settings smaller though? They are waaaay to big for me and is killing the experience.

it doesnt lag in the home screen - but the animation is terrible when u do it in the lock screen - partially because it decides for you to open the entire drawer
Update:
Just updated my phone today - the blur effect was removed
Guess Samsung figured out if they cant do it right they just need to remove it lol....

It's for the better, that blur was horrible and out of place
At the beginning i thinked the same, but the content is Blurred to focus on The Notification Pannel i guess, When you touch the status bar The Blur Animation(Transition) was a nice effect, they should leave it as optional and Not Remove it fully

I have the Galaxy Note 8 and the Galaxy Note 9 side by side, both running Android pie. I wasn't paying attention at first, but I noticed something after I installed a good lock, which worked perfectly on my Galaxy Note 9. Upon uninstalling good lock, it is around this time that I noticed that there is a blur background when I pull on my notification bar. But I cannot remember if it was always like that. Comparing it to the Android pie in note8, this is not the case. The background remains transparent but a little bit dimmed, which is what I prefer.

Smaller or are we able to add more than 6 on the top row? Hell my s7 or s5 I think I could have 8 icons on the top. Makes it way more convenient when accessing things. I noticed with Oreo I can have 6 and there is no where that I can find that I can add more... Is this a feature that Oreo removed?
Thanks,
