Samsung Galaxy Note 2, rooted, carrier unlocked. Running Straight Talk.
On my computer today, I finished getting directions on Google Maps, then clicked to send to my phone. As soon as I clicked that link on my phone, a gray block with a progress circle popped up, then disappeared. This continued in a 1/2 second loop. Nothing else responded. After a minute or so, I popped the back and pulled the battery. I put the battery back in and it wouldn't boot. It does nothing. At all. It is completely dead. I've pulled the battery many times, tried to start it in safe mode, and recovery mode. It does absolutely nothing.
I need it up again as fast as possible.
Any suggestions?

I picked up a used Vibrant last week and it initially worked fine. However, it still had 2.1 installed so I decided to update to 2.2 with Kies Mini. After 4 hours of screwing around and with it and much searching of forums, I finally got it upgraded, but something seems to have happened to the phone in the process.
The phone acts like the USB is permanently on, even if no cable is attached. The USB plugged in notification stays on even when the cable is unplugged. After I charge the phone and unplug it, the battery indicator continues to show that it is charging. The main problem is that the phone gets stuck in some kind of loop when the phone is turned off and never truly turns off. Initially, what would happen was that the little loading circle indicator would appear then the battery charging icon would pop up for a moment. However, since there was no cable plugged in, it would disappear. After several seconds of a black screen, the loading circle would come back up. This loop would simply continue over and over. Pulling the battery and putting it back in did nothing; the loop would just start over again the moment the battery was inserted. The phone would not respond to the power button while this loop was going.
At this point, I was still able to get the phone to boot by plugging in the USB cable, waiting until it started to charge (with the green battery icon) and then hitting the power button. This went on for several days. Today, I decided to take the battery out for several hours to see if anything would reset. However, things only got worse. The loading icon still pops up but now the charging icon doesn't come up, even if the USB is plugged in. I just get a loop where the loading circle pops up, disappears, comes back, and so on. I am now also not able to power on the phone with the power button.
I am still able to get into download mode (but not recovery mode) so I flashed everything back to stock using Odin and the instructions on this forum. This does get the phone booted back up, but as soon as I turn it off again everything starts all over.
So now I have a phone that, if it is ever turned off or loses power, has to be reset, wiping everything in the process. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? Is it some kind of bootloader issue?
Odin, put 2.1 stock rom back.
Like the post before me mentioned, Odin back to stock 2.1
And personally, I'd much rather install stock froyo with ODIN rather than KIES.
Or just use a Custom ROM altogether.
As I mentioned in the original post, I've already restored the phone with Odin several times and it has absolutely no effect. It allows the phone to boot once but as soon as it is turned off again the loop starts over.

I have heard of KIES updates screwing phones before! I would contact T-mobile and tell them the situation....letting them know its used and had stock T-mo 2.1 and after using KIES to upgrade to 2.2 it screwed your phone.
Eventhough its used and You didnt buy it from them, they would probably fix it for you for free since their update program caused the issue...If it was a stock phone then they will probably fix it.
edit: in your story to them, leave out the part about you using ODIN...i am sure they will call that a void of the warranty.
Hey guys
So I had bought a used galaxy s4 on swappa, got it, it started fine, I took it to the verizon store and got it set up with a 4G sim card, everything seemed good. Let it charge for a bit and then shut it off and stuck it in a box (the phone is a replacement for a family member who is away right now so it was just gonna hang out for a bit).
Just last night I took it out of the box to try and turn it on and get some info on it and it won't boot. When I start it up is says "Samsung Unlocked" and shows that unlocked Icon, that goes away and nothing else happens.
The weird thing is it didn't have the unlocked thing before when I first got it and was starting it up, it had the normal "Samsung Galaxy S4" boot screen with no lock icon, and I haven't done anything to this phone in terms of rooting or romming it. I did boot into the included recovery once, but I didn't mess with anything.
When I try to boot into recovery now (hold down power+home+vol up) I'll hold it down for upwards of 30 seconds, and I don't get anything. It doesn't vibrate indicating it has started up, and I can't get it to do the normal boot and black screen again until I pull the battery.
Any suggestions on what to do with it at this point?

OK I'm gonna look like an idiot here, but this was the issue. After leaving it plugged in for ~30 minutes it turned on fine.
I had charged it to 100% and was sure I had turned it off before boxing it for a few days but I must have screwed something up!
Thanks for the response!

It might not be your fault. You might have a defective or worn battery.

Hello,
I have a problem with my tablet, I have looked and tried for several days and have not been able to get any real results.
To start with, my tab originally was running really slow. I thought I may have a virus, so I did a factory data reset. Once it tried rebooting, a warning come up that there was a missing file, I didn't have time to write it down. Anyway, it started to reboot, the boot screen comes up "Samsung GALAXY Tab 10.1" but that's as far as it gets. That's all it would do till it drains the battery down, can't even turn it off. I pressed the power and volume key to get into the selection screen to boot or download. I have tried several times to reload the recovery.tar.md5 through Odin3, it says everything works fine, doing this finally allows the battery to show up on the screen while it's charging. Now when I boot it it gets past the former screen and does the video sequence that ends with the SAMSUNG in the center of the screen and hangs there. It finally restarts and hangs on the first screen again. I have looked and looked, and can't seem to find what I need. I really need some guidance, please understand I need some help!
Thanks!
Well, after several more attempts I got it to completely boot up! left it on for a few minutes, got it all setup and onto the home screen. This was late last night, so I decided to shut it down (power off) and plug it in. Got up this morning and it is doing it again! Anyone have any thoughts? Could this be a problem with the processor or any other hardware parts?
Not really sure what's going on with your tab, but you can try to flash the full stock ROM from Odin. You can get it from www.sammobile.com.

I appreciate the suggestion, I already went to Samsung and got everything I could from there - updated drivers, But I did not see the ROM. I will take a look tonight when I get back home. Thanks for taking your time to reply!
I went to Samsung people in Best Buy, he pointed me to the Samsung Kies. He seemed to think it was hardware also. How would I tell if it is either? I am leaning towards hardware, because it did let me get in and set-up my accounts etc... then I powered off & the problem has reared it's ugly head when I tried to power it back on.
Been running the GPE ROM flawlessly since I flashed on the 12th... Until today. Don't know if this is ROM related but maybe you guys can help.
Out of nowhere, my phone kept shutting off. Couldn't use it for more than a minute after booting before it would turn off completely. Battery was charged so I was kind of like 'wtf'. Then all of a sudden it wouldn't even get to the swirling colors boot screen. It would shut off halfway though the Samsung Custom logo. ****.
Tried plugging it in and pulling the battery multiple times. I can't even boot to recovery! The blue text shows in the upper left but then it will go off again. It's plugged in now but not showing the battery charging screen.
I can only get it to turn on for about a second. Am I ****ed? Is this thing bricked? Super random because I changed NOTHING this morning and it was fine yesterday.

It could be a power button failure, it's actually quite common on the S4.

So, my V10 just decided to nuke itself. I was browsing through gmail and it locked up. Completely unresponsive. Pulled the battery, tried to get into download mode and it does, but it also locks up and won't show the green android. It just shows the small download mode icon and the bubble things. I try going into recovery. It goes into modified recovery (with safe mode, etc)... I click on factory reset and it just goes back to the LG boot screen.
My phone literally bricked itself...

This actually happened to me last month. Was reading a pdf and all of a sudden it froze and started bootlooping. Tried pulling out battery, download mode, etc and nothing worked. Even tried reflashing firmware. Ended up having to send it back to LG, they had to replace the flash memory
VZW replaced it under LG's 1 year warranty. Apparently it's a common LG problem affecting the G4, G5, and V10.
I recently had a similar problem with my V10 VS990. I'm on my 3rd phone now. I took the most recent OTA update and my phone started having issues getting a location lock in Navigation(google maps) and also it would show nothing in recent apps when I'd had tons of apps opened. So I finally went to Verizon and they sent me a replacement. When I got the replacement everything seemed normal but then I started having the same problems with the replacement. I believe it was a refurb. Well I called Verizon again and ordered a 2nd replacement. Just after hanging up with the VZ rep, the display of the phone started to become unresponsive. I was puzzled so I rebooted. Still same thing. The display would come on but I could not unlock the phone. I kept messing with it and finally got it to unlock but the display was not reactive to touch. I messed with it until I could get to the security menu and was able to factory data reset it before shutting it off. It was just weird how the display just suddenly became totally unresponsive. It would turn on and looked perfectly fine but would not do anything when tapped or touched.
Me too. Bootloop issue. A well known problem with the LG V10 **grumble** Apparently it is hardware related.
I took mine back to Verizon and had a replacement the next day.
