Soft Bricked NextBook Ares A11 tablet 64bit Intel Atom Need recovery - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I Pre-Apologize If this Has been asked before My Interest at the current time is about developing a recovery image for my soft-bricked Nextbook Ares A11 Tablet android 5.1 64 bit Atom processor 1gb ddr3 ram if i remember correctly I was experimenting with trying to find a recovery image that i could flash to it and well Bricked I can however boot to some sort of bios hardware settings in it with the ability to boot from file and change manufacturer hardware settings ...I dont believe that is part of the android booting process but somewhere hardcoded! As for the android booting i no longer have the stock recovery<!--go figure--> but i still am able to access fastboot in download mode and i have the update firmware from the manufacturers for my specific device! Sorry if this seems like 2 questions If you could tell me wether i could flash the update to fix it has the boot.img in it also other files looks similar to how to root with file-systems anyways if you have no advice on how to unbrick my advice Here is the real question!! What matters when developing a recovery.img for a specific device what do i have to take into consideration as to hardware specs and software specs any good links to that would be awesome and for the final question how to distinguish my recovery partition type idk if it is MTD or BML I cant find the MTD folder so assuming it is BML I can also get additional info such as last_log or any of that I am able to USB boot the tablet into Kali Linux Sorry for Such a long and drawn out explanation I will revise my question if needed and possibly start two separate posts on this! Thanks in advanced i really appreciate the Help!!! XDA Rules
Update Tried to flash the update firmware boot.img snd now i also have a verity issue I think ive tried everything
maybe my answer is to wait until a flash recovery comes out for this tablet!

I have found a Temporary Solution for my Bricked Nextbook Ares A11 Given it is Buggy and you may need to experiment to get the WIFI working! I didnt yet!
I have read somewhere that you can take these Android_x86.ISO and compile the Kernel I Dont Know How YET but if you cant find one that Supports the Wifi chip then i think you'll have to compile the drivers with the Kernel!
If you can Find an ISO Image for this device that seems to work decent at least the WIFI Let me know please I'll be 4ever Grateful!
Here is my Temporary Fix!
While looking for Android Images to Install on my Nextbook I stumbled upon this webpage It has loads of Android ISO's for running inside a VM
http://www.android-x86.org/download
I used a Bootable usb to test then install the one That worked the best for me
The software on my Device was Buggy One ISO let WIFI work for the first boot then all of a sudden it stopped working.... on this one the touchscreen never worked! heres the ISO name---cm-x86-13.0-rc1.iso--<!--WIFI worked for the first boot-->
The other one is --Android-x86 6.0-- the WIFI never worked but the touchscreen does but not for a real long time!! I think if you get the kernels then custom build them to fit your device that would fix a Soft brick for any device that you could figure out how to boot a USB image on!

Why not extract the device's kernel from an update file if possible?

Bricked my mums rk3066 into maskrom mode - REWARD for anyone who solves this ;)

Hi
Ive been playing around with my mums rk30sdk tablet and managed to fully brick it. It WAS in blue mode (maskrom) but I managed to fix it and now its in green mode. Still nothing on the screen though and unable to flash it or connect via adb
I have the dumps of all partition images but cant adb to it or get into bootloader mode so im a bit stuck. I have an old rkflash tool that allows for flashing of separate partitions but it doesnt recognise the device
Using Windows I do get the 'bing' so I know its alive and rkbatchtool v1.7 gives me a green connection (no switch but can upload firmware)
Ive searched the net for firmware for this device with no luck The guy I got it off is a **** and doesnt even know where it comes from. Im sure I could flash it if i could make a single .img file from my dump .img files but ive had no luck so far
Im thinking my only option may be to build android from the source but thats a massive effort and fraught with problems so Im after an easier way.
It uses an ext3 file system. If I could just get the recovery back it would help but I really need to build a single flashable image from my dumps!
Im not the only one on here with issues with this device so anyone who can help me will be helping other people.
SPEC:
rk3066
1Gb RAM
8Gb ROM
10.1" display
model PT10.1
rk30sdk
Im using both Linux and Windows 7.
Anyone who can help me will get ALL the info on how I just got a FREE rk3188 10.1" tab (Unfortunatlly I think its a 't' chip but i havent opened it up yet so not sure)! It was free though so pretty cool! I found an idiot seller who can be blackmailed into refunding you and letting you keep the tablet as they list it as a totally different model
I know im bribing you guys here but my mum WILL kick my ass for bricking her tab so PLEASE help!

[Q] Why is there nothing in here about Archos gen7 devices?

I'm looking for help with my Archos 5 Internet Tablet 500GB, it's gen7 and I can't find anything here about it. It's like everyone just forgot they ever were made. I can find everything there is about gens 8, 9, and 10, but there isn't even much about it on the Archos website. I realize it's been abandoned, but I still want to use the storage it has. I've seen people on YouTube with Froyo and Gingerbread versions of Android flashed to it, so why can't I find anything here? I've rooted it, and I'm stuck at the Recovery now because many of the sites I've been to say to format it and let it install the root os files that recover the actual boot operations. There's no way to boot into any other mode to engage USB debugging at this point. Please help.

Follow this guide http://dev.openaos.org/wiki/SettingUpMultiRootGen7 . However gingerbread won't run really well on harddisk devices, but you can always try and see if it is good enough for you. By following the guide, you will still be able to boot into the original firmware as well as gingerbread.

[GUIDE][Cube i6 Air (3G or Wifi)] How to update your EFI BIOS to latest version

Welcome to my tutorial !
You can find others tutorials related to the Cube i6 :
Install windows 10
Install Android 4.4.4 (Stock & RemixOS)
I received the magnificent AllDoCube i6 Air 3G last week, and i've been struggling since to get updates,
firmware flashing and all of that working, I searched the whole web and the drivers/Firmwares are nowhere to find,
but on some chinese proxy-needed sites sometimes, or baidu which is a pain in the a** to download from.
So I decided to share the ways to update this tablet at all costs (heh, no worries, -NORMALLY- it wont brick)
Disclamer: This process might contain ROM hacking, this is for advanced users.
THIS TUTORIAL HAS BEEN TESTED ON i632GB1537XXXXXXX MODEL, AND WORKS ON IT,
WHEREAS IT HAS BEEN REPORTED THAT i632GB1522XXXXXXX MODEL BRICKED UPON DOING IT,
SO PLASE DO IT CAREFULLY, IF THE INSTALL VERSION IS 202 YOU SHOULD THINK ABOUT IT BEFORE TRIYING AS IT COULD BRICK!
Software included may be subject to copyright.
Flash your device at your own risk. Developer is not responsible for what you do on your device.
What you need:
Cube i6 Air (3G or Wifi)
Flash Drive (256Mo +)
OTG cable
USB Hub (3 Ports recommended)
EFI BIOS Firmware
DOWNLOAD THE FIRMWARE BEFORE STARTING SO EVERYTHING IS AVAILABLE WHEN YOU DO IT
https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B8YPw4HjmqNCZktOZy1OTEN2ZVE&usp=sharing
Get on the drive, go to your device folder, select the wanted version inside BIOS folder
What to do :
1.) Start by plugging the usb drive into your computer, and format it to FAT32 using any formatting tool
2.) Now you need to uncompress the downloaded firmware :
you will find a "Firmware_X.X.X" folder inside, take all of its content, and extract it to your freshly formatted drive.
here's what looks like the root of your usb:
3.) Your USB Drive is ready, now just plug the OTG cable to your tablet, plug your HUB onto that OTG
and fill it with your keyboard and the USB Drive just created.
4.) Press power button until you see the screen backlight, when you see it repeatidely smash "Esc" key on the connected keyboard.
You will see the bios 6 square configuration screen.
Hit "Boot Manager" and select your USB in the list.
5.) The tablet should now boot from your USB, booting to a UEFI Shell. Depending on your device, it might be either 64 or IA32.
Now you just let startup.nsh script do the firmware flashing init, it should drive you to a flashing BIOS screen.
6.) Follow instructions on screen and let the tool flash your BIOS automatically.
Once done, the tablet will shut down.
Congrats! You successfully updated your BIOS !
It is my first tutorial, i will post some photos of steps in the future so come back, the guide will be better soon !
Regards,
Max.

I achieved installing Win10 x32 Pro on Cube i6 Through hacking WinPE installation environnement, but now i'm struggling finding the drivers. touchscreen, battery and vital things like hd graphics are not working as of now. Will post a tutorial on how to install Win10 in given time when i'll get out of this mess!
My tablet has arrived yesterday.
From what the little i've used it, it has good performance especially in android.
A lot faster compared to my last android tablet (Cube U39GT).
Something i didn't like was the size of the icons and text in android, my next step is to root and change the dpi.
Regarding windows 10, i found in a chinese tablets blog with win 8 and 10 drivers.
I haven't tested it, but as soon as i find it again, i will let you know where to download them from.
You haven't tried the normal win 10 upgrade? From the microsoft icon?

I did not try anything as i like "stock" versions of my windows, but tonight i got it working all the way !
My cube i6 is running perfectly windows 10 and oh my god what a paradise it is ! The tablet experience got way better onto that version.
Can you try to update from the icon you are talking about ? i'd be curious if it works. anyway, i'm currently writing+uploading for the win10
tutorial for this tablet, so you'll be able to flash it late tonight, or tomorrow.
EDIT: The dpi is correct in android, only the status bar icons and some other are not in correct dpi but that is KitKat issue I guess. still interested in resolving that though. I'm currently hacking android lollipop ROM also, i'll keep you tuned on that. For rooting, i used KingRoot, it worked, but after a reboot, it tells me "root" is wrecked, so i guess there is some investigation to do there, but I was mainly focused on getting windows 10 ENGLISH STOCK version running to share it with you guys.
EDIT2: Still uploading, but tutorial is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help/guide-how-to-install-windows-10-t3252042 and it should work on any Z37xx powered device. Enjoy !
Hello,
I'm using this tablet from 2 days now. great !
But, i got wifi problem after sleep : wifi chip cut and never found network anymore.
has to reboot, and all goes right.
same in win and android.
Did you hear about this ? many poeple complain about this.
Any trick or advice ? Is this bios correct this ? Is your bios work on i6 3g dual-boot ? (there is 2 bios for dual boot ?...)
Thanks !
Hi,
I've also have the same problem with the wifi.
I usualy disconnect the wifi and reconnect it, but sometimes it doesnt work and have to reboot the tablet.
I've not noticed it in windows but maybe it's because i'm using the tablet a lot more in android.
I've tryed to update to win 10 using the microsoft icon, but i got an error and was unable to complete the upgrade.

Hello, i have such a tablet for now about 6 Months and it is awesome so far (i often use win8.1).
My Tablet has also DUAL Boot with Android 4 and win 8.1 Bing.
I tried to upgrade to win10 but i also got a message that the partition can not be resized by windows. So i cant upgrade to win 10 with the normal tool from microsoft.
Is there any Solution yet to get this to work?
Anyway, i tried to boot from usb (win8.1 / ubuntu / gparted) but it is not working at all. When i try to boot true windows Advanced Boot Options, the BIOS says that there is no USB device.
When i use the EFI Shell to mount the USB Stick i can see that the BIOS has recognized the USB Stick.
I think that is all very strange, but i will try to update the BIOS soon. The serialnumber is not the same as from @stalker2106 but i will try it.
I hope there is a way to get win 10 working, but Ubuntu would be even better for performance.
Greetings from Germany.

Check windows 10 Post, there is no need to update BIOS to fix this error, your USB has to be in GPT partition style, check answer on the other thread
But usually the bios update should work, as it did on my tablet. But why bother taking risk if you can get it working without it
Hi,
I have sucessfully updated to win10
I have bios 203 in my cube and serial i632gb1510xxxxxxxxxxx, does anybody have tried to update to 206 on such setup ?
What are the chances that I will brick my device ?
I have downloaded latest Cube i6 roms from cube site (may 2015) . There are two bios-es which have to be installed in chronological order.
Shall I do it first, and then try to update to 206 ?
Edit: I was not patient and tried it on my own.I have successfully updated bios and tablet has started to both android and windows
I will perform some functional tests afterwards.
Actual steps :
I have first downgraded bios to 201(provided here )
Flashed bios1 from link provided
Flashed bios2 from link provided
Flashed bios 206 from guide in first post
Edit2:
I have tested basic functionalities like : Gyro-sensors, WIFI, GPS, 3G network and yet everything works like charm.
Maybe a placebo, however I have the feel that android runs like two times faster
I do suggest to update the windows, however I take no responsibility if you will brick your device. Even if the setup is like mine, neither if it differs
Regards
Why do you first downgrade to 201?
What do you mean with bios1 and bios2?
Many thanks and question
Hello Stalker,
I am new here and i want to
thank you for the instructions!
I bought a cube i6 from china.
It is the 'i6 air remix',
So it should have only Android on it.
When it arrived. it didn't function.
The only think that happens is booting to theEFI-shell.
I could switch between Android and Windows in the boot settings.
But Android did not boot.
I have updated the bios with your instructions
now firmware 2.0.6 is installed.
But still i can not boot Android.
I found a few flash tools and android for the cube i6 .
But i don’t know what is the right version flash tool I have to use.
Maybe you have advise or the right android and flash tool in your google drive download area?
Kind regards and many thanks in advance.

The truth is, the 206 BIOS provided is hacked off i6 remix repository from cube, so i guess there is no big deal flashing it on your device as it works on regular i6.
Moreover, you can use any version of the flash tool as long as you flash a correct rom for your device, which i would suggest to download from official cube repository or geekbuying or so.
Android Geecbuying
Hello Stalker,
Ok. Thank you!
I will try Geecbuying.
Hopefully the windows drivers will function.
There isn't a way to flash from USB I suppose?
Greetings
Hi, well, actually, you should flash over USB with à windows computer. MFT by Intel is recommended. I shall make some tutorial about Android installation and partition resizing.
flash and resize partitions
That is super. When you want to do so.
I was indeed wondering or there would be one android partition on the tablet or two partitions (one for android, one for windows).
I also questioned myself how to see that there are partitions.
In earlier times when I was working with a pc, i use F-disk or partition-magic for this kind of work.
But on the tablet I do not have a clue...
So if you could make me wiser on this, I would be very thankful.
Maybe you could boot on some gparted liveusb? Or inside efi shell some commands could help

no particular reason, I just wanted to know, which version of bios is in the latest firmware provided by geekbuying
Additional condition in my decision mechanism was that my serial did not match mentioned ones in w10 thread from stalker, so somehow I have used sleepy sloopy logic and tried to minimalize the risk (I know it have no rational reason and logic behind it at all)
Therefore, I tried the ones from geekbuying repository, to be sure to have latest provided from "official source".

I don't have this device and i can only locate 1 thread where you might be able to obtain some member guidance within that's specific to your device.

Do you think it could possibly be a Windows tablet and someone tried flashing Android on it I posted the model number and what not I could post a photo of the recovery because it's all good it's all like lines through the words and stuff like this just a thought I had

Your question is a valid one that prompted me to perform a quick Google search using the model number and such and after looking at a little over a half dozen results, I came to the following conclusion.
This came with Android 6.0 and was a budget Tablet that costs approximately $100.00 +/- brand new.
It seems as though the individual who had given you the tablet may have been unsuccessfully attempted one or more actions like Unlocking, Rooting, etc...
With a very limited amount of resources available for this device, there's really not much out there for help but, I'm not stating that there's no help. It's more of where to find it that's the challenge.
I wish that I could be of more help...
Good Luck!

Thank you very much for your time and help. At least I know it was most likely someone's fuk up then faulty
Still been messing with it cuz I have hope it's just soft breaking set but I got into the recovery log files going through them I found this one section I screenshotted check it out it's the same bored as the 8a 16gig version of what not so like those other post around where is has been mentioned to use the 8a Twrp etc on the 10a because it's the same board. This tablet is like the 2nd or 3rd gen that came out 2017 which has like at all winners CPU or something instead of Intel or something like that I've read somewhere and it also has Android nougat 7. 1 out the gate. So in theory I should be able to put that 8a twrp & boot Image to match on this one and then downgrade to 5. 1 or do something like remix Os or something custom.
??!?!?!!!!??????
so how the puck do I put a picture attached of the recovery log.

I have the same tablet I think. I can turn on and off and boat into recovery(words are faced and have lines through them) but I'm its staying stuck with Nextbook showing on screen. I'm trying to find stock or something so I can flash and get it fixed. Its a Nextbook 10" Model:NX16A10132sps. FCC ID: S7JNX16A10132SPS. Ill let you know if I find anything
I have both A64 and Intel versions.
The twrp for the 8a DIDN'T work on the A64 when I tried it.
It DOES work on the Intel.
If you can get to stock recovery and its messed up looking with the lines and stuff, that's the A64 version.
Don't hesitate to ask if anyone needs help if it's Intel.
My A64's are both bricked still so i'd be useless there.
Here are my backups from the Intel version.
Ares10a_NXM1021CAP_ES-IntelAtom-[NX16A10132SP-S] - Google Drive

And how to tell exactly which you have.
Trying to help a friend fix a Nextbook NX16A10132S/NXM1021CAP that is caught in a boot loop.
This is an Intel Atom based unit.
FTM mode is accessible (limited adb command support).
DNX mode is accessible (limited fastboot command support).
Based on the information in the build.prop file, it would appear to be an Android 6.0.1 system: ro.build.description=NXM1021CAP-user 6.0.1 MMB29M 20160919.050843 release-keys.
I cannot find any ROM, Update or image files for Android 6.
I would attempt re-flashing the unit to Android 5, but the image files linked to your post do not include the android_system or android_data partitions.
As I understand it, the android_data partition only holds user data and consequently does not need to be flashed, it only needs to be wiped, but the android_system partition is a must.
Do you know if stock Android 6 firmware is available anywhere?
If not, do you have a stock Android 5 image of the android_system partition?
Or, if I am completely off course, can you please advise?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

[HELP] New LG phones not booting into recovery or fadtboot[HELP]

Hi
I just got a third LMX210 today to add to my collection. Lol really im just trying to solve a problem. I bought a ulma to replace cm and i came across a ulm model and decided to just replace my cm today. The problem is that all three of these phone which normally have easily unlockable bootloaders will not boot into fastboot. The fortune 2 will not even boot into recovery. They all will boot into a blank screen with the android robot and will boot into download mode.
The natural solution would be to install an older or even plain stock firmware. But say you dont have a windows 10 or Mac computer. I havent found a way to flash lg firmware using a linux distribution yet.
On the other phones i tried removing the laff partition to force the phone into fastboot by plugging into pc while holding the volume up button. This did nothing but repeat the logo until the button released.
Yes usb debugging was enabled and adb was used to try these procedures. The drones at lg know nothing and ask to send the phones in for repair.
Short of re-installing the stock firmware there has to be way to get past this. And to tell you the truth i dont have a way to flash the stock firmware so i dont even know if that will work.
Ok guys got any ideas?
Update.
Ok spent 4 hours on a windows pc today trying to flash firmware and install qcom drivers thinking the download errors were due to the drivers. Then at the last moments went to Tecknights page and downloaded and installed the lgup dual mode program.
So the bastitches of higher android office decided to screw everyone out of bootloader unlocking. The ARB numbers have recently (like in the past 3 months) been changed to 003. Meaning you cannot flash firmware with an ARB number lower than 003.
But that doesnt stop us completely. Two ideas initially popped into my head. Hex edit the .kdz so that the ARB number matches the phone. Or lol split the .kdz into its seperate partition images then wipe the partitions and use qdl or lgup to repair the now bricked phone. No device data no ARB no problem.
Im hoping the former works over the latter but ill keep you informed.
But really guys thats extreme and i cant see too many folks going through the wipe process to enable fastboot. So we have to find an easier way.
Is there any way to know what partition the ARB protection resides in? If those parts could be wiped im thinking it might fool the flashtool into thinking that there isnt any protection.
one of your devices is MTK isn't it? can't you use SP Flash Tool like for other Mediatek devices? you should be able to flash images to emmc_user with locked bootloader, for example boot, recovery, system, ... all you need is a correct scatter file (which you could create with WwR MTK)
So your saying finish porting my recovery and use sp flash tools to install it. See i have been curious about that procedure and how not having an unlocked bootloader would effect flAshing from recovery. I was thinking brick. But its worth a try if it wont brick and i get full Root with magisk. Ty
Btw when i was porting my recovery i ran into a rather large well too large problem. When i went repack using abdroid image studio which i have used in the past with out problem, it would not shrink the image back down even though i was only trading a few files. How do i fix that
start with readback boot / recovery. then try to unpack, so you will know the scatter is right (at least, for this partitions) or compare files with your already existing backup files
no problems here with unpacking/ repacking with AIK
IDEA:::: ok so for the Qcom boards i have a solution possibly. I know that the older software versions have working fastboot and recovery going and can be boot loader unlocked. That tells me that a fota uodate is screwing things up.
PROBLEM:::: ARB my fortune 2 will not let me install at all anything before ARB3.
ARB_location:::: bootloader
Solution:::: download and extract the stock .kdz for device with working features. Wipe parts bootloader and laf using qpst and reinstall. Solves two problems in one go. Allows fastboot and and bootloader unlock and future re-install of stock firmware
may work but remember your bootloader is locked and you need to by-pass this via testpoint (or at least previously enabled oem unlocking and don't lost these setting) otherwise sahara will fail
well it was an idea. I just did some fact checking and also looked at the files dumped from the .dz dump of the fortune 2 stock rom. PBL or primary bootloader cannot be removed or flashed according to a thread it is a pernanent installation.
But upon more reading i can flash my recovery and boot.img using qfil in qpst along witn every thing else. But i need to know wether qfil reads ARB info and if so where i can find it in the firmware so i dont flash that img but instead pull it from phone as is.
i would really like to know what the twitterpating deal is with these LMX210 phones. ok when i firsr got my fortune 2 i bought it for two reasons the rootability of the device and the fact that tje msm8937 board came pre-installed with otg software by default which in my eyes meant no more freaking computer to use adb.
Well it is all there the drivers the software. but guess what. it doesnt work. i have no idea whats stopping it all from working but even lsusb doesnt bring a twitch or hint of reading any thing over the usb.
does any one know how to fix this
Yo. There is definitely ways to flash on linux using virtual machines, wine etc to run windows apps but you got ahold of a windows box to use. IF it is in EDL mode (Qualcomm mode with a driver saying 9008 in it..) then there is still faith you can revive it. You will need the firmware dumped from someone then youll need to run a program creating XML files for the phones firmware parition files. Youll next need a firehose which is what they call the programmers for EDL that send through the commands and firmware in a low low level that these programs like LGUP just do not do yet (don't know why..... Im waiting for someone to program the LGUP dev version with an EDL mode using emmcdl along with a way to create XML files too. Who knows maybe it will happen if we bring it up enough. The hardest problem youll have is getting a proper emmc programmer for the phone. I can source a lot so if teknight doesnt have something to help with EDL just get ahold of me and ill see what I have and send you some stuff.
Man i have been trying to unbrick the LMX-210 CV1 devices since last year. Tek has nothing but supports the work in hope of finding a solution. I have a ton of fire hoses and saharas all of which have cost me nothing but frustration. I have almost every qpst made and have tried them all with my firehose and saharas. Thr only thing i havent done is pull the mbns off my phones and try them. Trust me system dumps are crap.
The only sign of life i came by was flashing an sd card with the gpt and then flashing each partition manually using ubuntu. In return i got the battery logo but thats it.
Would love to figure it out though
By the way I have been compiling kernels. I call it the jokerfish kernel. Its packed full of drivers and debugging features plus gpu idlers boosters and all those crazy fishy thIngs. Its got governors and wire guard. Otg support. Io schedulars and overclocks. Cpu hotplugging and fast charge.
Now i cant figure out how to get fast charge to work but its set up for msm-otg phy-msm-otg qpnp-smbcharger and smb135x.
All that and not a single panic to reboot in over a week and 1/2 which is how long its been compiled. I used tweaks from the dragonheart kernel source and ported them over and did a lil c++ magic.
It has kcal too but n0 app supports it. All kinds of media and sound codecs as well. You think it would be slow but my compiling and coding skills are as mad as me. Hahahaha.'
But dont Take my word for as the gentle over there on your couch. See that smile? Hes as happy as fish in a pond.
Just remember Duhjoker is in no way responsible for bricked devices so try it at the risk to yourself.
This particular fishy thingy works for msm8917 cv1 devices like aristo 2 and k8+ which have been tested by the madman himself.
If you like you could thank me but the permanent smiles on your faces will be just as loved.
lol so fast_charge is working on the kernel but you have to add a custom tunable to a kernel app to get it going. Just add the path
/sys/class/power_supply/usb/uevent
Then you will get a choice of values to manipulate
