I've did a trick with my laptop in order to get it working. I've installed SparkoCam for Windows to use my screen as webcam and marked the qr code from the Whatsapp for Windows app (it's the same as Whatsapp Web, but with native Windows notifications). Now, with an Android Emulator, I've launched Whatsapp and touched the Whatsapp Web button. Since every Android Emulator uses your webcam as the main camera, and my webcam was switched to my desktop screen where the QR code was, the app automatically detected it and WP Web started. Now, as long as I have the emulator running in background, I can enjoy Whatsapp in my pc without camera, without phone and it uses native Windows notifications too!

Actually nope, it's a fake camera. I don't even need a physical webcam

That's an interesting work around.

whhich emulator did you use

NOX app player is a really good android emulator. Its fast and you can hide it directly from your screen with STRG+ALT+X, then it isnt anymore shown in taskbar or desktop. Its a reaaaalyyyy good app player/android emulator!

it would be great if you just did not have to keep the emulator open.
maybe get another phone from a friend, install whatsapp in a phone with working camera, open whatsap web, then take your sim back to your phone. Have not tried it, but just maybe works

Remote VNC Works!! - VNC Server on NC

Ok.. got vnc server written by XDA user onaips to work on the NC
Make sure you install Busybox before you run it. IT WILL NOT WORK without it.
If you haven't installed Android Market, go and look the threads and install that.
Search for busybox, download and RUN it to install busybox.
Now in the Market search for "droid vnc server"
download and install onaips app. onaips app checks for busybox & will prompt you if you havent installed it.
I recommend to do a quick reset and run droidVNCserver app. works like a charm
The only drawback is that it shows nook portrait mode in landscape. if you turn it around it works ok... hmmmm.. what gives..
see the thumbnail
Does this let you see the Nook on your desktop? Or your Desktop on your Nook?
To clarify,, this is VNC server for the nook, so that you can access/see your nook from the desktop.
I was able to connect to my nook from Ubuntu but, it acted like it was a view-only VNC session. I was unable to actuate any button-presses, etc.

Same problem here, but I am connecting from a Windows XP.
So rather than install this on my nook, I installed it on my phone, and installed wyse pocket cloud on my nook to log into my phone's screen. This let me connect to my phone so I can manage access control in tethering, as well as send texts and such. This will be really handy.

I haven't been able to get wyse pocketcloud to work on my NC! I'm not sure what the issue is. What method were you using? I was trying to use the google log-in method, which worked for my phone to computer. Being able to access my phone would be interesting for said reasons.

Kies Air and different browsers

Has anyone managed to get this to work with Safari? It's a mild annoyance that when I want to use Kies Air I have to use Firefox instead of my go-to browser (Safari). Does anyone know if there is a simple setting/url change that I can use that will enable Safari to work with it? I'm running on OS X if that makes any difference.
Thanks.
I use Safari. Seems fine to me. What problem are you having?
Safari can’t connect to the server.
Safari can’t open the page “http://1**.1**.1.6*:****/” because Safari can’t connect to the server “1**.1**.1.6*”.
(no idea if I need to censor that out, thought it would be safer).
Can you try without putting http://? I never entered that, just the number.

No need to censor those are local ips no risks.
It automatically adds the http:// to it after I press enter.
Weird. Is the number you entered is the same on your phone? Well, if you still unable to open I guess you've to use Firefox. Might have to wait some pro to solve it. haha
Yeah, double checked. It's weird that it works on FF. Maybe there's some setting enabled on Safari that's stopping it from working?
If you click on Safari > About Safari, what version are you using? Also, if you go to preferences > Advanced > Proxies > Change settings, do you have any of the options checked? Those are the only things I can think of that might make a difference.
Mine is 5.05.. Only Auto proxy check. Hmm...
all same here. I'm fresh out of ideas!
when you enter the url into your browser, and get the "cant connect" error, try restarting the phone. happened ot me as well and fixed it. same happened with my SG1, used an app called wifi explorer which was also to explore phone files wirelessly and had to just restart my phone after using app for the first time too.
Kies Air - Fix
I had this same problem, watched Kies connect once, but never connected again, kept stalling. Tried Mozilla, Chrome and Explorer, all with the same result. Then I noticed lots of Java icons stacked up in the taskbar, and under closer inspection, lots of instances of java started in the task manager.
Turns out the problem is the Java cache on your PC, it doesn't clear after you drop the connection, and prevents further re-connection attempts. Uninstall the Java on your PC and it all works fine. Not sure what you need to do if Java is essential to you.
Turns out the problem is specific to Java 6.24 and if you roll back to 6.23 it will be working again

Desktop space in Remix OS

So, I've been in the last row of Desktop space in Windows for years now, but it never really filled.
Programs were added, and programs were removed.
So, No idea how Windows deals with shortage of Desktop space. (I should find that out too)
But, my Desktop space in Remix OS filled within days. ANd I don't know how to increase it.
Should I uninstall or disable My Desktop and add a launcher ? (it being a system core app and all, probably not a good idea)
And anyway, I love Remix OS shortcuts, quick to access , easy to find. One of the many wonderful things I love about Remix OS.
So, how do I go about it ?
The Start Menu/App Drawer exists, but I don't want to be clicking that everytime I've to access something.

I w'd create folder and move some icons in it
I'll do that

In your screenshot I see apps like "Docs" and "Sheets". In other screenshots I saw app "Skype", too.
I can install these 3 apps, but on my computer (Lenovo T400) they do not run. One or two seconds after I have started them, they stop working and disappear from the screen. Other apps like Dropbox, Evernote, K-9, Firefox, etc. run without any problem.
Did you (or someone else) run Skype, Docs, or Sheets successfully on Remix OS?
Haven't tried Skype yet, but Doc/Sheets work fine.
Have you tried running them in fullscreen mode - ON ?
And did you download those apps from PLayy store ?

You can use Nova Launcher and its ability to group similar apps. See my post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3330231
I tried it on 2 laptops, on 1 (i5, intel graphics) everything runs fine.
On the other one (old intel processor, old nvidia graphics) it boots up but some apps (skype, antutu for example) just close right after starting. Also i can create folders on desktop buf i cant open them directly, filemanager just closes like other apps. However if i start the filemanager and navigate to the folder in there it works.
I also tried it on an intel atom (server board tho) runs really smooth on there but both onboard network ports are not working. When i go to ethernet settings it shows som (random?) mac address, witch doesn't belong to any of the network ports. I hope my network chip will be supported in some future release.

Amazfit Pace - Stop running APPs on Watch - safe power?

I think there is no way stop Running Apps, spec. 3-Party Apps like 'All In One Offline Map' or 'calculator', directly on the watch.
Of course I can do it remotely via adb shell -> am force-stop ... but of course this does not help in daily life. Therefore this Apps are running forever unless Power Shutdown of the watch.
Or does someone know a different solution? It would safe quite some power and CPU load.
E.g. an App for mobile hhone to controll ADB via bluetooth?
I would appreciate it much more if the stop-running app function would become part of the watch launcher.

Install one of these on the watch. It can kill running 3rd party apps.

The above referenced task managers do not run on the watch.
But I have found a working alternative which works for 3rd party apk too.

Sorry, mate. I must have been in a hurry to assume you knew how to make Android Wear apps run on the watch.
The one you found is the same one as the 2nd app I referenced. It's a modified watch part apk of the app.
If you're curious how, here is the link (registration required).

I am aware of the tutorial - how to convert the android wear apps that they run on Android. Unfortunately I do not have the APK Editor Pro version (paid) and the free version does not allow the modification of the APK manifest. Could you recommend a free version of a APK editor Android or PC (Windows) which is working too?

On Windows, you can use both of these.
https://ibotpeaches.github.io/Apktool to modify.
and https://github.com/patrickfav/uber-apk-signer to sign.
Personally, I don't use any of apk editor for this purpose. Simply take the inside apk and install it on the watch. Works perfectly.

App Hacking (Tricking WhatsApp into thinking it's installed on an Android Device)

New to the forums. I just installed WhatsApp for the first time and was able to get chatting with certain people only. Afterwards, I just logged in to desktop whatsapp and uninstalled it on my phone only to realize I can not use it without having it installed. Is there any way to trick WhatsApp into thinking the number associated with the device has the app? How would I even begin to fix this issue?
Try with an android emulator, may have a bit of better luck. Install WhatsApp on the emulator and verify it with your phone number. I haven't personally tried this, but this should work if you need to run any mobile app on your computer you can use this method.
