Is it worth to upgrade to O+3T? - LG G5 Questions & Answers

Im thinking about, cause I cannot root my G5 and 32gb for system+apps+data apps seems each more little.
Guess Ill miss my B&O module, but I think I could use it as a standalone through microusb.

If youre upgrading, could I adopt your B&O module as a person who listens to music 24\7?

I want to like it, I really do. BUT...

The design of this thing is awesome. Pair it with those monster 14 pound EACH speakers and man, that's drool worthy.
However, this device is kinda confusing to me. Is it a dumbed down receiver? Is it a dumbed down Google TV device? I can play vids from YouTube and and Google Play and music and that's it?
Where are the shots of what ever interface this will have? Where is Netflix? Huluu Plus? Amazon Prime? This seems to be the most limited - as far as what can be done with it from the get-go - device I have seen El Goog push out in a long while. Sad.
As good as it looks, it seems rushed to me. Why pay $299 for something that is simply novelty and available in many different flavors already?
Till they add a bit to it, or someone hacks it and makes it much better. Sorry Goog, I pass.
While they were doing the presentation, I understood it as it was just a receiver that connects to some speakers or a tv, so once you connect to it (I forget if it was WIFI or NFC) you can just play music or videos on the speakers or tv; and anybody that connects to it is able to play what they want on it.
It looks great and all but for $300 its definitely not worth the price tag.
This is on the network so I hope that it has easy access to Windows shares and that it will be able to play 1080p MKVs with lossless audio.
I haven't played around with playback on devices.
Even though it is pricey if it has this full feature set then I may pick this up. Would be a nice improvement over plugging in a laptop to the TV.

From what I was told yesterday, it won't. The guys here at IO said it would only stream from them (movies and music stored in their cloud or Play Store).

I'm hoping there is at least some logic within the box that allows you to play more sophisticated content.

It's $300 because it's supposedly actually manufactured in America... so do with that what you will
I'm still very confused as to what it is/how it works. Doesn't seem worthwhile.
seems like the coolest looking piece of crap.
The engadget preview says much of the price is because of the built in amp, which, IMHO is totally unnecessary. I have a surround sound system.. why would I want stereo sound from that puny little thing?
Drop the amp and $100 off the pricetag and this thing will sell itself. Oh, and unlock the damn thing. Only plays stuff from the play store? Google is starting to sound like apple...

Really? It has a USB port explicitly for the purpose of hacking it. I have no doubt the Nexus Q will be a cool device to own once there's enough dev support for it.
It seems like Google released the Nexus Q with the idea that the android community would figure out what to do with it.
Nexus q + dev support = sold. However I will wait for the support first instead of buying and hoping....
Its an interesting device, but I'm disappointed that they at least didn't add an "airplay" style connection for displaying your phone or tablet screen on the tv via wifi. That would at least make it more appealing for the price
I sat there during the keynote thinking what a killer feature this would have been for a google tv. Instead it's a more expensive and more limited device.
I came away from i/o feeling like the google tv is being de-prioritized and they want to push this device instead because it's locked down to google play content. There were zero mentions of google tv during either of the keynotes. There were sessions but after sitting through a few it seemed as if all the new and exciting things were happening in other product lines. I don't mean this as a dig at the google tv devs. I just think the company has made a cooporate decision to lock this down.
Maybe I'll feel a little different after unboxing it tonight and playing with it some but I just can't see myself getting on board this product line and I'm a google fanboy. It just feels like a limitations by design concept.

That's cool. But inconsistent. Not everyone is tech savvy enough to even flash anything and I would be more apt to group those individuals with ones who would use the banana plugs on the back. It doesn't take an audiophile to desire more than 2 channels of sound.
I think its a brilliant device and ill probably get one once the price goes down. I just think it may increase sales to offer one without the amp - is it really that big of a selling point?

Agreed. This isn't like our Android phones running custom ROMs. You buy an Android phone, ANY Android phone, and you can:
1. Make phone calls
2. Send text messages
3. Use email
4. Browse the web
5. Download, install, and use the full Play Store catalog of apps
All without any hacking at all. When you install a custom rom, you're basically getting a few added features, customization, optimization, maybe the ability to overclock or run a select few apps that need root. You know, little things that aren't necessary but are nice to have.
The Nexus Q is different because it's gimped right out of the box. You basically can't do anything with it, other than play music and videos from the Play Store only (and who even has a huge collection of that stuff?). Even the very first Apple TV was capable of streaming content through a local network, even if it was limited to stuff you added to your iTunes library.
I appreciate Google reaching out to the dev community, but they can't rely on them to do all their work for them. What the Nexus Q should have been was a tiny Android desktop computer, controllable directly with an Android phone using a specific app (something like Gmote) and able to run any and all Android apps. I'm excited when I see thumb-sized Android computers available for under $100. The NQ could have been a cooler, more premium version of that, but as it is, it's both overpriced AND has no features.
YouTube app
So not living in US forces me to use Music and the YouTube app. Now it's time to do some raging.
Playing youtube vids on my tv is awesome through the app and all that. But I want to be able to play several videos. I have several playlists but the only option on a playlist in the youtube app is to delete it. Opening the playlists gives you the possibility to play one (and only one) video in a row. It really sucks. I don't want to open the app every time a video has ended :/
Guys what are you complaining about? Your where given cool toy for free because you are developers. You are suppose to find better applications for it . Just do it. Few years ago you had T-Mobile android phone without anything useful on it , nobody completed
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
All you guys in here complaining are just not dev or inspiring to be one cause from what I seen you're able to load a launcher to it from adb and stream netflix in 1080 so you guys dont really understand android or google yet but you will.
Sadly, I will buy a multitude of these for a project if someone can get the damn thing rooted and unlocked...

New Earphones, Best Music App?

Hey guys!
I've just invested in some decent Sennheiser earphones (never use stock ones!) and I'm now looking for a music app to match! I've found the stock music player lacks the dynamic range for the different types of music I listen to. My main genres are progressive rock, rock, techno/house and occasional classical. I've dabbled with the trial of Power Amp and was quite impressed, but wanted to know what other people have tried and gone with before I part with my meagre amount of money! Audiophiles, lend me your ears!!!
What are your recommendations/thoughts?
Cheers guys.
Probably already done it but don't forget to set up the adaptive sounds settings

I'm guessing this only works with the stock player, or is it part of the system output and would also work with third party apps?

On mine it's in settings, sounds and noticifications, sound quality and effects,
In here is adapt sound and other sound options they make my cheap blue tooth set sounds a little richer
And the adapt sound helps with my right ear hearing better than my left
imho poweramp is one of the best, has many frequency control, effects and a lot of theme like this:

adaptive sound is really bad..go with viper4Android this is the best and could be used with all players..BTW I'm still stick to my old in ear beats headphones ..they were included in the HTC sensation XL times..
I use Neutron and it is great.

Not looking to root I'm afraid. While I've rooted my last few devices, I use my GS6E for NFC payments and rooting would cause this to stop working. Also my 1 year old boy keeps me too busy these days!
I did have some UrBeats earphones with my One X a few years ago before I sold them, and after recent reports that they are nothing more than a brand name behind cheap Chinese made earphones, I'd rather steer clear of them. Quite happy with my Sennheisers!

yeah..from me it's the opposite..the Sennheisers we're not have a good sound..and no there are zero payment things.. I mean I can not see any store where I can pay with NFC in Germany....

I think that if it wasn't for the NFC payments and that I've only got the phone for another 11 months, I'd probably consider rooting. As for the headphones, perhaps you ended up with some fakes? Plenty of them out there which is a shame.

As for headphones and liking the sound or not, it depends on our music tastes and sound tastes greatly. Not all good headphones will be suitable for everyone.
I can recommend brainwavz and Soundmagic on my side. I have been using Brainwavz M3 with my S6 Edge and they sound great using Neutron. For desktop I have Soundpagic HP100 and they are great as well. Chinese, but if you read reviews on sites like Head-Fi.org, you will be surprised how good these are. I also have had Sennheiser MX980 for a few years and they sound nice.
The earphones I ended up getting are the Sennheiser CX 300-II. I know there are better ones out there for more money but considering I came from Logitech UE 200 they are a vast improvement, even on my laptop!
Just want to thank everyone for the replies. I'll probably end up going with Poweramp as I do like the features it offers and the different formats it plays. Quite a bit of my collection is in flac and although the stock player supports the format, the dynamic range of Poweramp is, imo greater.

Maven player? Jet audio? These 2 served me pretty good.
Viper audio if you're rooted. Not a player but a great way to control the sound

Why don't phone manufacturers develop/pre-install good equalizers?

This is a serious question.
The stock music players / equalizers for a majority of Android phones are simply disappointing.
Why is it apps like PowerAmp, Viper4Android, etc are 3rd-party developed? Why are stock equalizers only 5-bands with maybe a bass boost switch?
I can't wrap my head around it. I asked my gf this question and she said that the manufacturers want you to buy their high-quality headphones, which I guess makes sense for companies like Sony and Samsung, but wouldn't their top-end headphones sound even better if their stock firmwares had sound processors comparable to the likes of Poweramp / V4A ??
I'm hoping anyone with insight into the machinations of phone manufacturers can seriously answer this for me.

need a new mp3 player

ok guys and gals i just busted my zte avid's screen... bummed out i was using it for an mp3 bluetooth player... one thing is i got stuff on it i want to get off it. the rest is on the sd card. my qualm is tough. do i get a new zte avid for 13 buck or find another phone on ebay around 4 to 4.2 inches. the one thing is the zte avid has srs; a sound enhancer. and i was wondering if i could outdo the sound produced from it if i got a different phone...
if you think so send me some phone suggestions as the zte avid has a poor screen and an odd 768mb ram...
i am looking for android 4 and up so i can use it with my POWER AMP app
needs at least 1 gb of ram
an sd card slot
and a good sound over bluetooth
the zte is only a few notches below my lg g4 on my jam rewind for sound quality so see what you can come up with...
i just hated the zte avid's poor bluetooth range, but 13 bucks i can not complain as a replacement
also suggestions on getting the data off the phone i got some writings i saved to the notepad and a lot of websites

I'm not quite sure on a device to "recommend" however what I do recommend is whatever phone you end up getting, you root it, if not done so already, Drop SRS and move straight into Viper4Android, if you've never used Viper before it's what I like to refer to as the holy Grail of sound enhancing on Android, nothing compares to it. Any questions, let me know.

New V60 for music listening set up and using help for a tech idiot

Hi Everyone,
I've been given a V60 with dual screen and it's been factory reset. the previous owner told me it had great sound, but needed a complicated set up to get the most out of it, knowing I'm an audio quality lover, very tech ignorant and without anything portable. I listen mainly to classical, cd on a home system and DAB radio when not with my cds. I have a dated iphone 6s as my main phone, as feared the complications of Android and wanted hassle free. I'm not going to give that up, as I am dependent on it for family and work (too important for me to be stuck on Android.) However, I need a portable player for pleasure and to learn/lose fear of Android!
Does anyone have any advice or pointers of how to set up and use the V60 and learn to get to grips with the music audio features. I'll cross the "how to get 2500 classical cds music into digital" bridge when I get to it. I'm considering avoiding the headache by getting an online subscription and keeping my life. Many thanks in advance, and forgive my annoying ignorance.

Yes, the V60 has excellent audio capabilities. You won't find much info on this forum, but I can help get you started. First, the phone has a very respectable built-in DAC. If you have (wired) low impedance headphones or earphones, you can listen to audio straight through the jack. However, you like many audiophiles likely have high impedance phones. To properly support those, you'll need an outboard headphone amp.
Another advantage of Android is it will play nice with outboard USB DACs. I have an iFi DAC / headphone amp that will play high res PCM & DSD audio with only a USB C to USB A adapter. No extra drivers are necessary. If you want to play DSD audio, you will need appropriate software such as Neutron player. It's very configurable which makes it a bit difficult to set up. However, once it is, it works to play any resolution files your DAC supports. And the trial version works to test it all out before shelling out any money to pay for the app.
Oh, one other very handy aspect of at least previous-generation Android devices is the inclusion of an SD card slot. Want to rip your CD collection to FLAC files to listen to on your phone? Buy an appropriately-sized microSD card, and copy away. The version of my V60 has 128GB onboard. With a 512GB card installed, I've quadrupled my internal storage. Apple would never offer something that prohibits them from charging more money for more storage. Other manufacturers have unfortunately followed suit. (Don't let me get started on the 3.5mm jack.)
Beyond this, you can look to audio forums such as Head-fi.org to further your understanding on how to coax the best sound from your device. It's not rocket science, but there are some more tips and tricks to be had. A small caveat is that, despite the convenience of the double screens, you lose access to a real-world USB connector. I'm unaware if anyone has found a magnetic cable that handles more than charging. I cannot tell you the last time I used my second screen. It's too bad, really!
cheers,
-c
