I just bought the moto z, I know it has an unlockable boot loader along with the source code is out from motorola BUT I failed to find any custom ROMS right now for this phone. Are there any out right now? Do they work with moto mods? Is the source code for the moto mods system out? If the answer is no and there are any developers working on porting something like cyanogenmod to the moto z, let me know as I can help contribute to the project.
I have the unlocked US version as well. (retus software channel)
I think everyone's just waiting for Nougat to drop at this point.

So no one is going to develop until android 7.0? can custom roms even support moto mods?

That's what I assume most people would be doing. (Aside from trying to port over the Droid version of Nougat)
From the what I can recall, the mods stuff are released along with the source code. I saw a dev saying that Moto borrowed a number of stuff from Project Ara (RIP).

I also noticed that some kernels have been released, Can I unlock the bootloader, install the custom kernels with stock roms and still use moto mods?

As long as the include the Mods APKs. I don't see no reason why they won't work.

Guys,
I recently bought a Moto E(XT1022). Being the curious tinkerer that I am, I started poking around the forums here for custom ROMs. Found quite a lot of them. One of the devs released an unofficial port of Carbon ROM for moto e. Cybojenix recently released an early build of of Slimkat ROM based on Android KitKat4.4.4. He also said that he will release an unofficial build of CM11 for moto e. But the problem with all of these ROMs is that they work only on single sim variants of moto e. I tried PMing dhacker29 the official dev of CM11 for Moto G unified Build about help to get these working on dual sim variants but to no avail. Same with JackpotClavin. So are there any other devs willing to take this up for us. Also I read on the Moto G forums about flashing XT1032 firmware on XT1033 to get only one working sim and to use single sim supported Roms. Is it anyway possible to do this with Moto E and is it practicak . The main problems being faced here are SystemUI crashes, not working radio etc.. There must be some work around.Hope we find it real soon.
yeah me too waiting for that but many users flashed the us moto e rom and result was none of the sims are working hope so we get some help
I asked cybojenix about it. He said that dual sim sources are pretty messed up. That's the reason devs are hesitant in supporting them.
Sent from my XT1022

BTW @cybojenix just released a cm11 fix for dual-sim versions. Single-sim works for me.
:good:
Check cm11 thread for more info.
Can you please help me to guide how Can I port a android nougat ROM for my device Moto G 2015 Osprey XT-1541. I have seen few post on XDA but none of them is about N Roms . also one about N roms have negative comments stating thsi will not work .
Im intrested to port Paranoid android or PAC nougat ROM to me device
Why do you want to port?
Just build it directly from the source

If you're a newbie you should learn a lot of things from Google itself.
First of all you should consider building a CyanogenMod ROM since that's going to be good and better for you. Also see the things on AOSP.
that's a huge leap if you don't know coding. Even sometime CyanogenMod got to update few times to fix hardware issue
Any word on development of a recovery (TWRP or similar) or custom ROMs for the XT2041/Sofia yet? Reliance on Lenovo for updates, etc, is about the only reason I haven't already picked up a couple of these phones.
sadly nothing yet, ( i've been monitoring this forum closely)
apparently this phone doesn't get much attention from rom devs, but i still have hope
btw , the lenovo / motorrola rom works fine as a daily driver.
Hey thanks for the info but where can I find any info on levono/ Motorola roms for this variant thanks
https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/sofia/
You can grab rom using LMSA under rescue mode (just download rom)

somebody is working on OMNI at least GITHUB
other than this there isn't much on github that i've seen
It looks like that work is for the Moto G8 Power... curiously with the very similar code name "sofiar".
The Moto G Power (XT2041-4 for the US, code name "sofia") looks like a good solid phone for $249 at most places. Hopefully it will gain some traction...
Thanks!

From what I understand Sofia is US and SofiaR is international. There is a few minor differences but basically same phone.
Hi there! I was running Lineage OS in a Moto X Play that was having battery issues, so I've changed it and now I'm using a Moto G9 Power XT2091-4 and I'll like to know if there is some custom rom already working for this device or if someone is developing it: I would like to contribute in any way to get it at soon as possible. Should I check somewhere else?
Me too I'm still waiting for a custom recovery for the cebu firmware just want custom rom for hotspot I'm not able to get it working on stock rom

No, there is no custom ROM or a custom recovery at the moment. The Moto G9 Power (cebu) device and vendor trees are yet to be made/released by Motorola, which is the first step towards building custom anything. Nor have the kernel sources been released, though that is not as important, for now, we can make do with the prebuilt kernel while developing.
I was going to look into trying to make the trees, but life is in the way currently, and I am busy till like May or such. Also, I want to wait until Moto releases the 11 update
Great to know, thanks for sharing your plans. Let me/us know ways to contribute to make a custom rom for this device.
I got mine rooted, if theres anything i can do to help... Im still pretty green with all this but if theres anything i can do im there
Yes me too I don't have much python experience but I am able to use my phone for testing if necessary whatever I can do to release a rom, don't know exactly what this "tree" is but I can investigate if provided some direct sources for the cebu model of moto.given that android linage os has been released to g7 it couldn't be that difficult to rebuild it to work on g9 cebu?

Not that I have noticed. I mean I do more with it. I run more apps that are power hungry. But its consuming power as I would expect it to. Honestly the battery life is the best I ever had in a smart phone. Sorry I wish I knew an answer for ya. Only thing i can think is reflash it to stock and give it a go from the beginning.
Hi guys,
I am forced to upgrade my moto G5 plus due to a network update
In my moto G5 plus I have installed dotOS with android 11 and I am really happy with it, and I would like "clone" it on a Moto G Power.
Here are some questions:
1) since Moto G Power (2021) is not listed on dotOS but a GSI ARM64 available, has anyone experienced with that? I am also open to other custom ROMS (also Lineage OS doesnt have this devicelisted)
2) I also noticed that TWRP is not available for Moto G Power (2021), is there a good alternative or I have to use adb fastboot?
Thanks!
Edit:
I just found the thread:
[RECOVERY][UNOFFICIAL] TWRP 3.6.0-11 [BORNEO] Android 11 Based (updated 12/11/2021)
I can try that for question 2

Presently I don't believe it is possible to have a custom rom as we need the kernel be released for it to have a chance, or a compatible similar device and its kernel.
Hi Onoitsu and thank you for the reply,
so I guess I could go with the stock ROM. I noticed that I can use https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/borneo/ has an official and blankflash (not sure what the difference is). If I understand the process correctly I could:
1) unlock bootloader
2) flash twrp in recovery
3) flash blankflash.zip (or official?) through twrp
4) flash magisk through twrp
5) restore my old phone dotOS android 11 backup through twrp
and I should have all the apps and data as in the old device?

The blankflash is only if you can no longer flash anything by usual methods
Blankflash and EDL Mode
Is my device in EDL Mode?
How to boot into EDL Mode
Thanks for the info!
Should the reasoning above work if I use official instead of blankflash?

Neither the blank flash nor official firmware are twrp compatible.
Thanks sd_shadow for the info, it is really helping me out.
I saw your post for using LSMA, but I couldnt find a Linux version. Is there one? Or the only other option I have is going through the fastboot process?
Can anyone tell me if there is going to be custom roms made for Borneo?

Mostly concerned because google has said they're going to stop their 'less secure app' thing at the end of this month and it might mean textnow will stop working outright for people that don't use play services.
Hopefully anyone working on making a custom rom for Borneo will see this thread and maybe give an idea if its going to happen.
Does this help?
If I wanted to start from scratch what would I need to know to make my own custom rom? Don't need a phone, will only ever use wifi. Just need microg basically.
The following statement is on the dotOS FAQs:
Q: My device is not supported! What should I do?!A: First reason can be that our development team doesn't have your device to support it or we no maintainer applied for this device. You can always use our GSI builds if your phone supports Treble Project.
Here we have this statement:
... Google requires every Certified Android device launching with Android 8.0 Oreo and above to support Treble.
Here borneo is listed as a supported device.
Does this mean dotOS GSI supports MotoGPower 2021 without the need of vendor blobs?

@sd_shadow
Two sites that potential rom developers may want to check out:
1) https://github.com/moto-common
check out: https://github.com/moto-common/andr...ernel/blob/12/dtb/bengal-moto-base-borneo.dtb
2) https://github.com/moto-sm6115
Scroll through the list of repositories, particularly in the moto-common site
@sdembiske that looks promising, I am willing to give it a shot and contribute to the community. Is there a good guide on how to build the kernel with vendor tree/blobs etc...?
Reference "Moto G Power 2021 XT2117-4 Firmware Extractions" - You will find the extracted kernel etc. in the boot.img extracted link that you can download - there are many other extractions that you hopefully can use to build a custom or AOSP rom.
Your best bet would be to add a pre-built kernel in the build - you can google that for how-to's.

The Xiaomi poco m3 has the same SoC and other innards as the Moto G Power 2021 and it also has unofficial Lineage OS 19 support. I am considering hitting them up and using their code as part of the build. I'm also requesting Motorola Mobility LLC to release the kernel source for Android 11. I already have a device tree for Borneo on my github. Me and Fazwalrus have a telegram chat set up for the ROM development here
