severe lag - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys. Hoping yall can help me out. I recently got this on clearance at T-Mobile. It came with 5.0.3 out of the box. I immediately downloaded 6.0 from SamMobile and I installed the upgrade this way.
The phone boots and runs but it is EXTREMELY laggy.
There are things I could do. I could root it and put a custom ROM in there and I assume it will fly. But... As I have a brand new device, i want to make sure that I have a warranty in case there is something wrong with the guts of the device, I don't want to have to send it to Samsung for them to tell me I have no warranty.
So any method that requires root is out of the question. What are my options? Because even if I Odin back to stock, knox would still be tripped thus voiding the warranty.
I have tried booting into recovery and clearing cache. This was no help. Is there anything I can do, or is this an issue with all S6 edges? Is this an issue with dropping snapdragon to only use their processors?

I have a stock s6 edge currently and theres no lag at all. I have the exynos processor and its fine. I have used many custom ROMs on this phone a number of times over the year and if anything this has been the one to cause lagging and battery drain.
If i was you i would make sure knox isnt tripped now and send in to t mobile as faultly device. Maybe they will just swap it for another one.
Theres not much you can do without root. Factory reset and wioe cache is about the only thing you can do without root.

Thank you for your reply. I have not tried a factory reset yet. Guess this is the next and only other option.
And I'm stoked to see its not an issue with Exynos. However there won't be any others at tmobile. I got the last one in the store. My only other option would be the s7 or s7 edge

If it was a brand new phone i doubt a factory reset would change anything but give it a go cant do any harm.

ME either to be honest. I just thought maybe since I updated from 5.0.3 to 6.0.1 that that could of been an issue

Was sold a voodoo unlocked sgs3

Hello everyone!
About a week ago, I went and bought the S3, my first Android phone. The sales guy told me that the phone is sim free but a Samsung's firmware update caused a bug, and that the phone needed to be sim unlocked because of Samsung's error. Needless to say I knew nothing about the phone (or Android).
After a few days of learning about it, I ended up seeing there is a Voodoo app in the file manager, CWM and SuperSU apps in the app drawer.
I came here to check what that was all about.
After reading extensively I now know that the phone is rooted and was sim unlocked with Voodoo app.
I red all about Voodoo and was impressed that it works with the fix, yet another user said this will cause problems in the future, and I already see some users complaining about their phones not working.
My question is, was the sales person lied to me about the Samsung firmware bug? And also, is the Voodoo app + fix is legit, and I can rest my worries aside?
I wouldn't like to have problems and having to wait for some (wonderful and admirable) dev to fix it, every time there is a firmware update.
Thanks in advance, excuse my noobishness.
If its unlocked.....ITS UNLOCKED
reboot, if its still unlocked then you are good. as far as the problems........i dont know of some sort of samsung bug that would f up a phone.
what are you really asking? will your phone all of sudden brick on you and become useless? i dont think so
In fact, there is no Samsung "bug": Samsung has just improve is Lock system which now break voodoo unlock (on purpose or not...)
In theory, it should only relock phones that had been unlock with voodoo app but here is the tricky thing: some shop sell "fake" unlocked phones!
-they took carrier locked phone
-they flash a stock rom
-they change the EFS file in the same way voodoo app would have done
-they sell it as unlocked
the old lock system do not break this and buyers will probably never see the trick but the new lock system just relock the phone and left people with a locked phone even if they think they have bought an unlocked phone
Just look at this post which is an answer to someone who had a relock on an "unlocked" phone with XXBLG8 firmware

So in fact, from now on, every time I flash an updated rom, I need to pray that samsung didn't (intentionally or not) break the voodoo unlock? Sort of like the Apple's cat and mouse game after the unlocks? Cause I'm not going through that again.
Here is a patch for preventing the sim to be locked after a update http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1802951, need root and flash with CWM.

Thank you for the reply.
It seems as though the fix is allready applied, the thing that bother me is that
I will need to wait for a fix every time there is an update.
It's just that i'm afraid after owning a locked iphone, that was a nightmare.
Let's say that it is much better and more comfterbale to have an unlocked phone, am i right?

Well since I'm new to Android I don't know if it should bother me, with Apple it was horrible, my question essentially is should it bother me?
Does sim locked phones Known to cause problems down the road?
Thank you for spendig the time!

As you are rooted, it is better not to update through Kies or OTA. Kies updates will break root and thus voodoo sim unlock and OTA`s will not be installed as you have a custom recovery. Download future new roms from www.sammobile.com/firmware and flash it with (Mobile) Odin (Pro). See my signature for the procedure. With Mobile Odin Pro you keep root and with pc Odin you will loose root. If in the future you have to send it in for repair warranty can be denied because you are rooted.

VRALL4 soft bricked my phone. "System software not authorized by Verizon Wireless"
This update bricked my phone and I don't know why. I was watching YouTube videos, went to go pee and came back to a "System software is not authorized by Verizon Wireless" message. This was minutes before I had to leave to work so I just popped my SIM in my galaxy nexus . Anybody know how to undo this? I got no warnings of update. I only found out about the update just now online. it sopped working around 10am pst ,the time of update (at least this was a constant time I found online for it). Im rooted but not unlocked cause I had no desire to change Roms. And thus I am not backed up at all.
Any way to fix without Odin stock flash? I wanted to give up on flashing with this phone. Ugh.
Thanks
Nope. Had the same thing and had to Odin.
It has a bootloader in it. If you guys are gonna mess with your devices, you need to steer clear of OTAs unless given the all clear by those who know.

Exactly my point. I never wanted to mess with this phone. Never even wanted to unlock it. Didnt get an option to update. The screen just popped up.
If I had the option I would of said no since I didnt want to lose root. I need my RootDim app or all go crazy.
But thanks adrnalyne. I've always admired your work but now try and stay clear of all this ROM/kernel business.
If anybody would know what happen I thought you would. Spontaneous Verizon bricking...

I've a feeling its the bootloader, although it shouldn't have been possible if you had a custom recovery. Were you using the stock recovery?
If you did anything besides root your phone, the OTA should have failed at some point in the verification process.

Yeah stock recovery. I've never even booted to recovery. Loved this phone just the way it was. Maybe I'll just Odin tonight after work and lose everything. Is this a Verizon problem or does this screen come up with other carriers? Will this phone work on ATT or T-Mobile? Last straw with vzw. I can't get a concrete answer online. Some say yes some say no

Changing carrier won't stop the annoyances you see with the device. You have to change the device too.
As I mentioned in another thread, all carriers suck. It wasn't all that long ago that ATT didn't allow sideloading.

That's what you'll have to do is ODIN back to stock and start over
Doin' big thangs from my Note Deuce
Yeah. You managed to softbrick it.....odin back to stock is easier than bricking your phone.
Re: VRALL4 soft bricked my phone. "System software not authorized by Verizon Wireless
I have that issue now..im using wifeys phone. I can get to download mode. I flashed stockroot66 from galaxynote2.com it went 75% then failed. I tried the stock rom as well. No go on my end.
I think I have to unick bootloader and then flash the stock rom. Is that possible for me to unlock bootloader then flash?
I hope im making sense. Please correct me if im wrong.

[Q] S4 AT&T Rooting..Need help.

Okay, Im pretty new to XDA forums, and well, android devices in general. I recently purchased a Galaxy Tab 3. Which I was able to root successfully, but to later find out, it somehow got a virus and is now running super slow, even after a Factory Reset. But anyways. This comes to what I need help with.
I have a
Samsung Galaxy S4 AT&T
SAMSUNG SGH-1337
Android Version: 4.4.2
Base: 1337UCUFNB1
Im wanting to root for more performance and just to have alot more access to my device.
Now i have searched on google for hours at a time, but cant seem to find the same exact device tutorial for my phone.
I need this for work, so I want to make sure im doing this exactly right, and don't screw up my phone, or loose any contact data or anything of that sort. Can someone link me to a Simple tutorial that can help me root this device? Im new to the Android community so sorry for asking a stupid question! thanks guys!

1st off, the Galaxy Tab definitely doesn't have a virus. Malware perhaps, but not a virus. To make sure you completely rid your tablet of any left over issues, it would be recommended to reinstall the whole OS via the Odin program as that rewrites the /system partition too as the factory data reset only clears out /data. After you reinstall, then do a factory reset again. If the issue persists after that, there might be another problem that is not software related. It would serve you well to understand how to use Odin. It is a great tool that can get you out of MOST trouble you can find yourself in when modifying your devices.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2459734
Just make sure you use the corresponding firmware/software for your model as there are a few different Galaxy Tabs and it matters the size and wifi or data+wifi as well.
As far as the rooting of the S4, well, unfortunately you got pretty much the trickiest one to do. Remember Odin ^^^, this will be another reason to get comfortable with it...

OH!! Thanks for the advice on the Tab. Hmm The s4 is the trickiest one? Is it even worth the time to root then? I mean, I had the tab for a week rooted. And it was very useful. Would the s4 be the same?
And would there be a video tutorial on this? That way im 100% sure im doing it right?

Is it worth it to root it? Only you would be able to answer that. Personally, I couldn't imagine NOT being rooted. I hate not having control over my phone. There are a couple of extra steps here, but nothing some careful reading and well placed questions couldn't get you through. And the chance of you doing something that can't be fixed by Odin, is not impossible, but very unlikely. I've done stuff like this 100s of times and have never bricked one doing these types of things. This thread seems to have broken it down a bit more clearly:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=51331630
But read that, and read through some of the comments. Any issue you come across has almost certainly popped up somewhere in those 2 threads with 100s of responses.
Now one thing im not understanding, is the downgrading? And How do ROMS work?
and how would i know what model it is. Example: Mk2,Mk4?
Well, there is currently no method to root 4.4.2 as is, which is why you need to downgrade back to 4.3, since there is a way to root on it, and then it tells you how to update back to 4.4.2 while keeping the root access. Roms (in the phone/tablet world) are basically a package (usually zip format) that contains the operating system. Think of it as a Windows or Linux install disc, in zip format.
Just a quick little beginner's guide to the main terminology you will see:
http://www.androidpit.com/custom-rom-and-root-the-most-important-terms-explained
Okay! Thanks for all of your help! Ill try to root my device. If i have any questions, ill come back here Thanks!
Happy to help, though you might have better luck asking your questions in those threads. I understand how to do this, but haven't had a chance to root one on 4.4.2, so the people who have done it recently probably have it fresh in their mind still.

Will flashing higher build trip knox?

Hello i would like to know if flashing a higher build then that is currently released trip knox? So my S6 edge came with "G25AUCU1AOCE" and BestBuy flashed "G925AUCU1AOE2" to it. Well long story short something tripped knox and samsung won't warranty my phone. (Linked here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s6/help/s6-edge-auto-custom-binary-t3153156) I got it back to "G25AUCU1AOCE" and went to best buy for an explanation and told him to re-flash my phone like they did last time and what would you know it gave me the same screen saying "unauthorized software had been detected". So was this caused by the higher build flash and samsung should fix my phone?
As long as it was official samsung firmware it should not have tripped knox (was Odin used?), I have read somewhere that people have had knox tripped when flashing samsung firmware, has to be a samsung problem.
Give samsung all the details you have about bestbuy and their flash methods and see how it goes.
Edit: After reading your linked page, I would get bestbuy to replace your phone as they caused the problem.
Yea im going to speak with their manager who did my initial flash and see how it goes.(i was speaking to another samsung rep today there and they said they just cant confirm that i havnt actually did anything aftet to have caused it... I know i didnt so idk how to argue that) No out side software was used for the flash before all this happened. They used theit S.M.A.R.T software to flash which apprantly can only flash latest builds samsung gives them.
Have a quick question reguarding the locked bootloader. Does the software have to be approved by att to get pass the bootloader or only by samsung? Maybe this is the issue here. Cause the message does say its unauthorized by AT&T.
Oh brother this is happening a lot, see pic and I'm on T-Mob, I caused his myself having been already been rooted, running TWRP and modified kernel and 5.1.1 but after trying what I though was an updated software I got had the same problem. Odin back to stock won't help either, I was lucky and had my phone stolen.

URGENT!: i really need to do a reset to fix all of these issues.

I need this phone to be alive and well for my business while allowing me to make it mine. not a brick so im open to any advice to get this task done. xdadevelopers are a life saver to say the least. but right now im needing a big life save now. so anything helpful is needed ASAP! Right here are a few things from my knowlegde before you try anything.
Ping pong root only works with some firmwares, to root your G925A it must have the exact firmware G925AUCU1AOCE which is 5.1.1. You can try it and do download data first, then turn on airplane mode then try to root. Chances are it will fail.
Extreme syndicate v3 is for lollipop firmware only, your current firmware is 6.0.1 so you will find it impossible to flash as the bootloader will have been locked on upgrade to marshmallow. (Im yet to find anybody successful in downgrading) and also the dev has stopped for this ROM.
AT&T lock down there firmwares so its very hard to find any firmwares other than the ones available over smart switch.
Overall i dont think there is any root available for G925A 6.0.1 nor will there ever be.
As your on 6.0.1 you wont be able to find or flash any custom ROM as they are all on 5.1.1 as root was available for this version and not for 6.0.1
Only thing you can really do is wipe data/cache from recovery and your ad problem will be fixed.

As your on 6.0.1 you wont be able to find or flash any custom ROM as they are all on 5.1.1 as root was available for this version and not for 6.0.1
Only thing you can really do is wipe data/cache from recovery and your ad problem will be fixed.

yea... i figured. didnt know if anyone had any ideas that they knew personally. the ads were on a so called system bloatware app. so just disabling and manually corrupting its files stop it from working. hence ads quit popping up. as for root. i agree. when i get a s7. gonna buy it unlocked so i dont have this issue. i dont understand why customizing a phone is such a sin..

I always get my phones unlocked, or on a network that can accept flashed stock from different networks. AT&T and tmobile are a pain in the backside. I agree if you can go for the international s7
