Will the career bloatware go away if i flash a stock firmware ? - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello !
I bought an S6 Edge second hand, but the phone was originally bought from Vodafone Romania. It is unlocked, as I am using it with Orange RO, but i can't delete an app called "Vodafone Updates". If I flash a stock firmware from sammobile.com, will this go away and won't come back after rebooting the phone ? As I was researching about this on the forum, I found some information about the Bootloader, which I don't really know what is, but I understood that these career apps may get re-installed because of the bootloader . (?)
Can someone explain to me please, how to get rid of these pre-installed career apps and get a fully stock phone ( maybe rooted and removing useless apps ) ?
My phone is SM-G925F, Android 6.0.1 , see the attachment below for build number and stuff

Easiest way is to go in settings > applications and disable that app. It will be still on the storage but it will dissapear as if its not there. The other way would be tto just root your phone and delete the app. Saves flashing stock and starting from fresh again. Rooting wint remove anything but you can use titanium backup or other apps to remove it.

Thanks for the help but the first thing I did was trying to disable the app but there's no option for that. If I root and delete it with Titanium Backup, it will disappear forever ?

[Q] How to detect "SpyWare"

Hello all,
may i´m not right in this forum, but i can´t see a matching one.
I bought a used android phone from someone who was somekind of "not friendly".
Coming from winmob, i´m an android noob.
After reading here and at the net about the possibilities of android apps, i am now a little afraid to go online with the device with my sim inside, because i am not sure if the seller may installed some spy-apps and then may get my personal data, my location, or may remotely crash the device after a while.
I´ve already set it back to factory. But as i read, there may some apps which will survive this. I´ve also already rooted and installed some "su-apps" to look inside processes and files.
But there are many apps and services i cannot judge if they are standard from the OS and safe, or not.
Are there tools to investigate if something "weird" is installed, or may blacklists of spy-apps?
Thx in advance.
flash back to a stock rom, then youll know you are safe.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
thanks for the quick reply
you mean, when i run
settings - security - back to factory (my translation from german)
is enough and no "backround-spy-process" is able to survive within this process?
thx

Simply doing the factory reset may not get it.
If you're rooted, install a custom recovery and then install a custom ROM (could be custom, or just a rooted stock rom). You'll wipe the various partitions when you install the rom, and that should clear anything up.
We aren't going to be able to help much more than that without knowing at least what phone you have. Note that there are phone-specific subforums here, I would recommend that you find the one for the phone you bought and ask in there.

thx for your suggestions....
as i said, i´m an android noob and a little afraid to install a custom ROM and if it will crash then.
it was on 1.6 and i already updated it to 2.2 (OTA) ... did that may did the same as to install a new (custom-) ROM?
btw. it´s a streak and i spent a lot of time to setup apps, widgets, etc.
are there really no tools to detect known spy-apps?
thanks to all
Dr.Web doesn't do that? I got the impression that was what it was for...

removing vodaphone logo apps
Hi
This is my first post on this forum. I want to remove the vodaphone labelled apps on my ex contract Galaxy S11. Do I have to root the phone do do this or is there another way to remove these?
My phone details are: PDA I9100 BUKJ3 Phone: I9100 BUKI1 CSC I9100 VODKI2. I have found the official ROMS for carrier branded firmware to download ODIN Flash and the stock kernal information but am unsure about my competence to flash my phone without wrecking it. Any advice would be much appreciated.
Many thanks
You got 2 choices:
1) Freeze bloat with Titanium back up pro ( root needed ).
2) Flash an unbranded ROM with Odin (no root) or Mobile Odin (root needed).

Thank you for that. The suggestion of using an unbranded ROM with Odin without rooting may be what I am looking for. I have uninstalled some of the unnecessary apps (trial games etc) but realise that the carrier has installed additional "helpful" logos for shopping, updates, music shop and also various "suggestions" in Play Store, none of which are of any interest to me and I would like to remove oe uninstall. I have never tried to get into the innards of this smart phone which I value and am concerned that I might make my phone unusable if I mess up. Where would I find an unbranded ROM that I could use with Odin along with the absolutely essential idiot proof instructions for their use?
Thank you for your patience.

Phone returned blank so Cyanogenmod time?

Hey guys
Well the familar volume up/down button broken happened to me, phones not that old either
Had it repaired in the UK straight from Samsung, who's service is to be honest damm bloody good! Special Delivery pre paid envelope sent, and the return time was less than a week inc a Bank Holiday day, so that part of the service was great!
Now the not so good part lol
The phone was rooted by a mate I think who said he could "UNLOCK" the carrier for me, so I could use my simcard.... a nice little note from Samsung was packed in with my phone, telling me the fault had been repaired, and the very latest firmware had been installed to keep the device UP TO DATE :laugh::laugh:
Now of course, not only is the phone back to stock, its not accepting my simcard either!!
I have a few questions which im hoping someone might be able to help with
I looked at the Cyangenmod10 which I found by accident, it looks good and to be honest I hated my radio cutting out because I had turned over and the phone had too, so I wouldn't miss that specific feature, but would installing it "ROOT" the phone?
I need to be able to use my carrier. I may have come across some APK files which might need to be installed, and some of these need the phone rooted, Titanium Backup is another app I use which needs rooting and Superuser access I believe
Will all this be done if Cyangenmod10 is put on the phone?
Any help or info appreciated please
Flashing a custom rom will not unlock your phone!
And AFAIK, your phone needs to be rooted before trying to flash CM
So:
-first root your phone with CF-root by Chainfire
-then unlock your phone with GalaxSim Unlock by Spocky12

You know that feature can be turned off in the Settings, right??
Cheers for the replies
Yes, I know it can be turned off, but to be honest coming from an iPhone 4s to this, The S3 is FAR superior, there are just a few things I am either not used to, or dont like, touchwiz being one lol
Ok well I will root, and unlock then have a think.... any views on CyanogenMod10 and is it easy to remove if its not liked?
I like the look of it from what I have seen, looks nice and clean, easy to use, just wanted to ask your opinions
Root
Backup apps with Titanium Backup Pro .
Backup EFS folder .
Backup current firmware with CWM recovery .
Try what you want and restore back .
jje
Well, I rooted it successfully after following the instructions, I then installed the Sim Unlock and it said it couldnt find busybox, so I installed that, then went back to sim unlock and it failed, all the things are in RED
I tried rebooting the phone, it turns on and asks for an unlock code, tried Sim unlock again, not working, any ideas?

[Q] Does changing modem version makes you lose the SIM Unlock

Here's my problem, I bought a Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100 from a friend like 4 months ago, which means I don't really know if it's a factory unlocked device or international unlocked device or unlocked using some kind of methods that I don't really know anything about them...
Anyway, I rooted it probably a month after buying it, and I installed two or three custom roms her and there. (I think I installed the X-TremE CM10 1.5 Pure, 1.6 Pure and others roms from other developpers...)
Finally I found the perfect custom rom that I used all the time until now, it was the SuperNexus rom from Faryaab.
Everything went fine until today, I decided to try a new rom, the Omega v16.2 from ::indie:: (I can't post the link sorry but it's very easy to find).
Factory/Data Wipe, Wiped the cache and the Dalvik Cache and installed from zip, everything went fine.
The problem here is that all this time I was using my default modem which I found with the phone, the XXLPX (not a quite loved and famous modem from what I've seen), but the rom I installed was "equiped" with the XXLSJ modem (I don't know if we can say so, i'm not really a professional), so my Baseband version actually changer to I9100XXLS6 (it was I9100XXLPX as said above) and know I have in my hands a SIM Locked device...
I tried the Galaxy S2 SIM Unlock application from Chainfire and the Galaxy_S Unlock from HELROZ and none of the two have worked.
I switched back to the SuperNexus rom, redownloaded the XXLPX modem and reflashed it through the CWM Recovery menu and my phone is still SIM Locked.
So my question here is, does the fact that the rom have changed my modem version locked my phone, or did I do something wrong when installing ?
And is there anyway I could reunlock my phone using any method (probably not, but I ask anyway, who knows) ?
Thanks in advance.
You tried those apps with busybox right? sometimes you need to install another busybox installer version to getting it unlocked.
Have you tried Galaxy S2 SIM Unlock?
if you have a tendency to switch ROMs too often, you might want an app that keep that locking nightmare away.
if all apps fail, look into what these guys did (do not replace the bin file posted there, it's a diffrent method):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35934314#post35934314
Thanks alot for this ! it's gonna be really useful next time i'm gonna have a problem like that ! But I've already reunlocked it so I can't really try :c. I took it to some "specialist" guy that did it. I still don't know what's the method he used though...
As I've said I'm not a professional my self so it would be kind from you if you explain me two or three things.
First, what do you mean with busybox ? I'm not quite sure if the rom I was using (the Omega) while testing the two unlocking applications listed above was "equiped" with that.
Second thing, you didn't really answered my question which I'm gonna reformulate now:
Can I actually change the version of the Baseband of my phone ? If yes, do I lose the SIM Unlock ? And if I can change the Baseband version and lose the actual SIM Unlock, can I reunlock it and keep that version of the Baseband or do I need to get back to the old version by reflashing it, then reunlock it ?
And finally, the efs folder that I need to backup every time before flashing a new rom (I didn't knew that), what does he contain ? From what I've seen he contains the nv_data.bin file which I think contains the unlock, and that folder also contains some IMEI informations and other stuff. If I actually back it up before installing a new rom, and if that rom changes the baseband version which will probably lock my phone, is it safe to put back that backed up efs folder while keeping the same rom and the same baseband version that came with it ? Does it reunlock the phone ? And do I just put it back using a root explorer and just overwrite it the existing ones ?
Yeah I know, too many questions a man can handle, but I really need to be informed of all those things so I can be aware of what I'm doing.
And thanks in advance for your patience.
Best regards.

okay, here we go,
1) There are a lot o people that become some sort of experts on devices thanks to this forums. It takes houndreds - if not thousends - of hours reading posts and executing some things you learn here.
2) busybox is an app. It's Linux based and to tell you the truth, not too many people know exactely what it does, It's very difficult to pinpoint every single thing that this "busy" app performs; Just think of it like a an app that does a lot of things for other app(s) to perform better or to perform at all. You can download it directly from Playstore; bare in mind that sometimes the unlocking app will work with different versions of busybox, so you'll have to try and see. I'm now using "Busybox Free 8.9.7" & "Busybox Installer 4.1"
3) You can always change your MODEM, Baseband it's some sort of radio version that cell phones use to get service, some basbands work on many countries, regions, some don't, still...you always can "odin it" and change the modem (Always read about flashing modem with odin before you do anything).
4) Some ROMs will re-Networkl-lock your device, hell, happened to me every time I went up from Gingerbread - Ice Cream Sandwich - Jelly Bean Leak. The only thing you have to do is get the right tools so you can always unlock it without the drama.
These unlocking apps let you LOCK & UNCLOCK as pleased.
5) the EFS folder indeed contents your network information, IMEI and stuff, it's always good to back it up as it is an important folder for your device to function. I use HC-kTool to back it up whenever i need to.
There is an unlocking method that makes you modify the .bin file. Never done it before but some guys here do it all the time and actually works.
Some other member could enlighten you in this matter; makes sense that flashing a new modem would lock your phone but i wouldn's know. Still, as I've got all these wonderfull apps to unlock....I really don't give a damn
Open for corrections, I've just used common sense.

Thanks alot for those "enligthments".
I don't know which method the guy I brough my phone to used to unlock it, but I reflashed the Omega custom rom yesterday and it actually didn't relock my phone ! But from now on I'm gonna be alot more cautious when flashing a new custom rom. Recovery backup from the CWM recovery mode, efs backup and maybe some Titanium backup too, even though I prefere having a clean "new phone" and install the apps by myself rather than referring to a backup. Yeah I know it's stupid but I like it that way.
Anyway, thanks again for your help and your patience, much appreciated c: .
Cheers.

btw, you might wanna add mobile odin yo that list. Hell of an app.

LG G5 problem after upgrade "Current version is not available for user."

Hi guys,
I bough a used LG G5 back a couple of days because i have a lot of love for the LG G series. I got the phone after i had a quick look over the phone when i was with the seller and i was very happy about the external look of the phone so i bought it.
I had read that there is an official update for the LG G5 to Oreo so it was a big surprise when i realized that the one i got was still on 6.0.1. What i did was come back to the house, connect to the wifi and try to do a FOTA upgrade. No luck. It said that the phone was already at its latest update available. What i did then was to do a manual upgrade with LG Bridge. All went good and the phone was updated to 7.0. After the first reboot, i got the message "Current version is not available for user....". I didn't bother at the time because i thought that after a factory reset all would be ok. Well that didn't happen . I did notice something strange. The software version i had was referring to "EU" but now it says V20r-OPT2-SI. Perhaps the previous owner had the phone rooted and perhaps that version that it had was not the official EU.
Now the OS is full off bloatware and there isn't an update to Oreo available.
I want to:
- Find the appropriate OS version that my phone should have
- Get rid of the message that appears during the boot
- Get rid (if possible) from the bloatware when the correct OS is loaded
I want to use an official ROM with no root because of company regulations where i work so, rooting might be an issue. If i do have to root, i then have to unroot it again before use.
Because i have been away from the scene for a long time, please excuse my lack of information.
Regards,
If you don't mind loosing VoLTE support for the operators your rom was made for, just delete the /cust/ folder and you'll get rid of both error message and most of the bloatware.

That is indeed a nice tip that i was not aware of but would it be possible to know if i am able to flash a rom carrier independent in order to be able to upgrade afterward to the Oreo? If so, how can i find out the version that i can flash without damaging the phone?
Thanx for the help so far.
You can flash whatever rom you want (of course an H850 one, never try to flash a H830 or H860 ROM on the H850!!!). If you want to upgrade to Oreo having an Open EU stock rom, follow these instructions: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g5/development/stock-h850-30a-eu-rom-flashable-zips-t3850072
If you follow colsely the instructions and charge the phone before proceeding, there's virtually no risk of damage (avoid flashing form a desktop pc in a stormy night, of course).
