For MIUI8 - AGNI or RADON-Kernel? - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

Which Kernel is now better for my Kate on MIUI8 Dev: AGNI or Radon? I want to adjust audio-settings and a stable system with good batterie-life.

agni in my opinion, though if you are on a newer build than 6.11.3 and have the goodix fingerprint reader, you will lose the fingerprint reader access.

Radon for sure.

Stock

For goodix user u should stick to stock kernel otherwise u will have no working fingerprint.

I have installed agni on global stable 8.1.1.0 and both fingerprint and dt2w are working fine. While installing agni, it asks for fp type. I have Goodix.
Although I had to add the fingerprints again.

What kernel are u using? Do you need any patch for goodix?

As mentioned earlier, I simply flashed agni kernel and it asked me the fp type at the time of installation. So I selected goodix.

8.1.1.0 isn't the same as running 6.xx.x or 7.x.x as 8.1.1.0 is a stable build, and the 6.xx.xx and 7.x.x builds dev builds. It's very weird the way Xiaomi is numbering their systems, creates confusion imo.

Nx kernel doesn't work for goodix fingerprint sensor. Make sure that you have a fpc fingerprint sensor.

Does NX work on official 6.0.1? Miui.eu or global Dev?

Yes. But it doesn't support goodix fingerprint sensor. Otherwise, everything is fine.

It should work. I used on epic & global beta 6.9.9.
Anyway, flash the ROM again and restore the efs partition.

There's no details about the features. Check out this post.

No fingerprint scanner at all on any customer roms or kernels.

unlocked bootloader(unoffical) with cofface twrp. Tried numbers of nougat roms and marshmellow roms with different kernels. Have got the fingerprint option to show up but doesn't recognize a fingerprint being pressed on the sensor at all. not sure what the deal is. It worked before i unlocked and flashed.
On what rom were you before?
I was on Santosh's CM13 /w Radon Kernel as my daily driver then moved to AOSCP and have been using just AOSCP. Just want the fingerprint scanner to work.

Sounds like you have the goodix reader?
Did you flash the goodix N fix, then a supported kernel like agni?
I'm not sure which I have... How can I tell for sure? Also if I do have the goodix can you show me where to find these patches? I've searched and can't seem to track them down.

Most of the Nougat roms indicate the need to flash the patch for goodix, and then kernel as well if the built-in one doesn't support it.
Which ROM do you want to run? I have goodix and have tried Beanstalk, AOSCP, CM14 Strix version and they have all worked when i used the patch + agni kernel.
I'm using AOSCP now but I'm down to change to whatever as long as everything works and its relatively stable as this phone is my daily driver. AOSCP has been working fantastic with a few reboots here and there.

Which kernel is best for miui dev rom

I am on 6.12.1 miui dev rom. I am looking forward to flashing a custom kernel. Any suggestions which is best

I have no idea, as I see ppl are complaining about missing features after installing a new custom kernel like fingerprint, camera, random reboot and etc. So, may advice just stay on stock kernel.

Stay on stock, especially if you have the goodix fingerprint reader. Or you roll back to 6.11.3, in which case, you have your choice of Radon/AGNI/Neon kernel. I am on Agni on 6.11.3 (i have the goodix fp) and I have no problems with anything, great performance and battery life. Neon is also good. Haven't used Radon in a while so I can't comment on that.
i have fpc and all works with any custom kernel i tried (guyver, agni, radon, neon). they all provide kernel for goodix fp too..so dont mislead ppl, because all works + you get dt2w, etc..
I'm now using Radon kernel on 6.12.1 . I used to use Agni kernel. Bothare good. Agni is almost updated thrice a week.

No, they do not. Perhaps since you don't have the goodix fingerprint reader, you aren't in the best position to speak about the situation. As I have a kenzo with goodix, I can tell you that I have tried all Neon and AGNi and neither of them have had goodix fp support since 6.11.10. The last version that worked was 6.11.3 with custom kernels. I have heard that there is a possiblity that they may work if the goodix blobs from 6.11.3 were installed after the custom kernel installed but I haven't done that yet.

Goodix fp on oreo issue

I guess devs won't goodix fp source from xiaomi. Does that mean goodix users won't get fp support on oreo? Its been two months, oreo builds are are stable, just without goodix support.
buddy i am using nitrogen oreo on kenzo & my fp is working like charm no issue.

Because you have FPC fingerprint sensor.
Goodix still hasn't got support for oreo. Bad luck for goodix users i can say as it had happened for nougat also but later support was added. So just wait until any dev does that.?
I have faith in Billchen
I thought all mi a1 have goodix
