Hi. Does anybody know how to change SMS/MMS settings in Honor 5X? I'm on Marshmallow 6.0.1 and I cannot find in the Messaging app
settings for basic things. For example, encoding for SMS (i.e GSM 7-bit.) Also, for some reason I started to get a warning about "fees" when
I try to sent a SMS and then when I check my account at my mobile carrier, texts sent appear like MMS type instead of SMS.
Any input is welcome. Thanks, guys.
theres a menu option, in messaging app
Use Google Messenger. Stock EMUI Messaging falls short in customization.

Yes, Menu shows Favorites, Emergency Alerts, Harrassment Filter, and Settings.
However, browsing all of them don't provide the options I'm looking for.
On, Lollipop, there were some at Settings > Advanced but now on Marshmallow they removed them (e.g. Group MMS.)

I see. It's a shame Huawei didn't make it better. I will check Google Messenger and see what problems come with it.

I dint had any issues with g messenger till now..its the best
Google Messenger FTW.
No encoding setting even on lolipop that I recall, settings>apps>more>messaging .
Marshmellow removed a huge amount of important setings and ability use add-on app advanced settings and was a reason I didn't like the so called upgrade as downgrade in many ways.
Biggest issue with huawei is weak firmware and inability to send out fixes on major weak areas .

I love you too
~cveBKQAWVzqk8gg
Also
When I try to send a picture in messaging it won't send and I get a long block of gibberish filling a message to contact Google Fi.
I downloaded Google Messanger to use but it is doing same thing.
My husband ordered same phone and has no similar issues.
I have run spyware fixed with no luck. Google support people have no idea.

I'm coming from an iPhone 4 & one of the features I loved about it is the emoji/emoticons (smiley faces in text messages) I can send & receive with other iPhone/iPod/iPad users. Are there any apps I can send/receive emoji/emoticons with iPhone users (in otherwords, cross-platform)? I've read Handcent should be able to do this but won't be able to verify until my GNote arrives later today & activate it. Also, whatever new MMS messaging app(s) I download, I'm assuming I should disable text notification for the stock messaging app? Which one is the stock one? Thanks & looking forward to jumping ship!
GO SMS and then download the emjoi plugin and go sms is better the handcent. Handcent has a problem with mms at times cool little app but go sms is fast and easy to use.
That was helpful!

Yeah, I just read about Go SMS while using the search feature but didn't know if it could do emoji's. Thanks for the info & comparison, I'll download that! I'm assuming I should disable text notification for the stock messaging app? Which one is the stock one?
The stock messaging app is called "Messaging". I believe that GO SMS (which I also really like and use) actually gives the option to turn off the stock messaging notifications when you first download and open it (at least I remember that for some reason).

I'm enjoying go sms pro. But I do have one gripe. In the default messaging app, no matter where I'm at in the app (settings, compose, group messages) and I exit/hit home button. When I re-enter the app, I'm viewing my messages by default..
Go sms pro doesnt do this. If I'm in settings and I hit the home screen, then re-enter the app, I'm viewing settings again.. I want to view messages by default. I dont want to have to find my messages.. Any solutions?

This things must be reported to Go developers.
I have the same issue. You are in private box, you hit home screen or lock the phone. When you go back to app. Private box will be there. Which should not be happen and ask password.
So it's some thing an open issue.
I will 3rd the complaint. Its the only thing I dislike about go sms.
Sent from a rebel ship by storing the message in an R2 unit. (Help me, XDA. You're my only hope)
Report it guys, Its a serious security concern, although its not very difficult for them to solve this issue, its the way they are handling multitasking. I am not a GoSMS user otherwise I would have reported myself.
I have reported this issue with a link to this thread to Go Team. Let's see if they consider it to fix.

And it's still not fixed. I'm seriously considering moving to some other messaging app because this is really annoying. Especially, if you have encrypted conversation and it shows you the numpad instead of list of messages when you open the app.

I agree its still not fixed.
The go team focuses on graphical improvements on their apps, not usability improvements.
Plus they killed Go Backup by trying to make it a paid app.
Apparently the newest stock messaging app from Android is going to have a full theming ability. So go sms might be on its last legs for me.

Kinda annoying feature. Anyone know how to disable the screen turning on when getting a text?

Mine doesn't do that are you running a stock rom, and what carrier?
Mine doesn't do that either on Sprint.
Yea mine doesn't do that although I wish it did like my og EVO did

I'm on stock Rom. But every ttime I get a text, my screen lights up for about 3 seconds
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
Since you didn't answer the question of which carrier, I am going with that its Sprint from the model number in your signature.
My girlfriend's S3 is also doing this on her AT&T variant. I haven't been able to find an answer.
I have an AT&T one and it won't do it for email or text and I really would like it to. Must be a setting. Someone has to know.
You have to change the stock app. Stock messaging app is bad anyways. Look into GO SMS Pro or another app of your choice. The app has what your looking for then disable your stock messaging app.
For email just use the Gmail client. This also has the option for it.
Its all about the apps folks. I don't think the stock app has a way to have the screen to just remain off.
I think he is using blazer Rom from phantomhacker cause I also notice it. Sprint version btw.

Workaround
Found a quick fix to this that is way better than defaulting to another SMS app. Simply download "SMS pop up" from the play store, make sure its enabled, and under additional preferences untick "screen on pop up" and then under notification settings untick "enable pop up" (unless you want the pop up of course). You will have to untick the regular SMS app notifications under settings but its a fix that's working for me that still keeps the stock messaging app intact.

That will stop the screen from waking every time but won't turning notifications off in sms settings also prevent the phone the phone from letting you know at all that you have a message?
that is a nice woorkaround but too bad we have to use double the battery and 2 apps running at once to stop it. There has go to be a solution !
I made a thread about this yesterday. It happens to me everytime. On vzw
I'm running ATT variant and my screen wakes up when I get a text. Im currently rooted and looking through the messaging defaults with root explorer. Im sure theres a setting in there that is set to 1 or true that is doing this or vice versa for everyone else. I havent had an android device for quite some time so it might take me a bit to find it. If someone is a bit more experienced than me they'll probably find it faster.

Following what I wrote: If you disable the stock sms notifications under messaging>setting then the phone will not recieve any notifications regarding new messages. This is why SMS Popup is used instead. It uses a notifications service in conjunction with an optional popup to notify you when a new message arrives. If you enable notifications in SMS Popup, you will still receive notifications when new messages arive. SMS Popup is the service that will receive and notify you of the message, not the stock messaging app. It also has some other features including color customization of the LED light and selecting a specific SMS vibrate pattern. Like I said if you disable the "Enable popup" setting under the "notification" menu in SMS Popup it can serve as a intermittent workaround. As for the need to install it to accomplish this simple setting, it has a low battery and memory footprint as it is mostly a simple service and not a fully effective SMS replacement application. I have spent countless hours trying different solutions to this issue and this seems to be the best most effective workaround I could find whilst dodging SMS replacement apps like handscent and chomp. It was imperative for me to not have my screen light up in my pocket as I choose to go without a lock screen. Hope this helps and is a worthy solution until some development ushers in a new more efficient solution. Cheers!
There's got to be a way using root privileges to stop this. Heck we can stop the annoying wifi pop ups.
Thanks srath16 for finding a hackish way around.

I completely understand now. That's. Cool. There got to be a more in house way of doing this, but that would work in the meantime. Thanks for sharing.
This happens to me also and im running on Verizon at the moment would love if someone could find a way to fix this.

Right. This isn't an "issue", it's just a feature that Samsung has deployed that some like and some don't. Being able to turn it on and off though would be nice.
Hi everyone,
I've noticed something since I updated my phone to kitkat 4.4.2 (it's a Z1 compact).
Whenever I use another app than my default app to send SMS, eg. I'm using SMSPopup, Glowfly or event another "real" SMS app along with my default one (let's say hangouts or Handcent), I have duplicate sent SMS, that means I have twice my sent messages in my list. I didn't have this issue on JB.
I tried to tweak access/read/write permissions via AppOps but the result is still the same. I now have to use the same app for popups/Notifications and SMS. Other SMS apps are useless because they duplicate the text messages.
Does anyone has the same problem ? How can I fix this ?
Thanks a lot !

Make sure this is set correctly:
1. From your home screen, open Settings and head into “More…” under Wireless & Networks.
2. If running Android 4.4, you should see an option for “Default SMS app.”
3. Tap on that.
4. A window should appear with all apps that could be a potential SMS app.
5. Tap the one you want to use.
(This list is a copy/paste from an external link, DroidLife, which I'm not allowed to link to due to my scarce forum acitivty )
Sorry for a late answer and hope you get, or maybe you've already gotten, the issue resolved.
Hello!
I've installed CM11 on my girlfriends S4 Mini. So far everything's fine, but she's really angry because of a SMS problem. On the original firmware it was possible to send long messages as one "message bulb". Directly from the SMS app as well as over airdroid. Now with CM11 messages are splitted in 160 parts. No change with "SMS Messageing AOSP", "hangouts" or Airdroid. The "SMS Messaging AOSP" app is capable of showing long messages as one message, but viewed in airdroid (wich she uses frequently for having better overview, making backups etc..) they are still splitted up. I saw other messages she wrote on original firmware and they are very long. I think she was able to write up to 3 or 4 sms in one message, wich then of course cost accordingly. But it was possible and normal. I know that at some point SMS got transformed in MMS, wich is more expensive, but she's willing to pay more for the better overview in the history.
Is there any chance to achieve that with CM11?
Thanks
in sms app if u find it >> Click Menu > Settings > SMS Split .. and disable it

using cdma network will force the sms to be split according to talks here

What I did
Hi, I had that problem with my I9190, so I rooted the phone, also install the Xposed apk (you must to activate the framework before continue) and finally I use the allow long mms apk for Xposed, then I restarted the phone and now I can send up to 12 mms in one message.
I hope it can help you.
