Daydream Kluge - Moto Z Questions & Answers

FYI. If you want to try Daydream on your Z, it is relatively cheap to do so.
1. Get a cardboard viewer.
2. Find the Google sponsored controller emulator
3. Install and configure the emulator on a supported phone
4. Get it to work (pair via BT (good luck))
5. Profit!!!
I'm in for like $6.00 on my klugey VR experience, and it works fairly well. Controller tested and confirmed working on Nexus 5x and Nexus 5.

Turn Your Phone into A BT Controller for Device, Games, & Emulators!

I just recently came across this great new app in Android Marketplace called BT Controller. This is a free app. It's fairly new but I've confirmed it works very well. This app allows you to turn any Android device, whether your phone or the Prime itself. You install this app on both devices. Then you run them both at the same time. Both devices will prompt you to cut on BT. If devices already been connected before then the rest is easy. If not, then follow the usual methods of connecting or the marketplace description for app has instructions to easily do it. After that you press Connect on either device. it'll prompt both screens and ask which one you want to be Host(emulator or whatever) and other one the controller. once you choose one for a device, the other will automatically choose the remaining option. So lets say for example you have prime as the Host and phone as controller. Your phone screen will change to a controller. The Prime will have a box up the top right with 2 checkbox options in them. One is to configure input method. this is to select the BT controller to even be an option to use. Then the next box, when you click it, will actually allow you to select BT Controller as the keyboard input method.
After that then you good to go. I found that the phone actually controls the homescreens also. allows you to scroll through the apps or homescreens. if you press start on phone it'll bring up all your apps. Haven't figured out how tl confirm choices yet in homescreens with controller. Anyways, go to the emulator you want to run. Snesoid for example. to to options in there. cut off the touch display controls. then go to map hardware or custom buttons. then just match up the phone controller inputs to the one on emulator by pressing corresponding input. After that start the game and you good to go. The marketplace description has list of known working emulators or games. There might be more but haven't been found out yet.
I've only tried this so far with Snesoid and it plays very well. no lag at all. Now the prime just looks like a high definition monitor and you using your phone as the controller. Its pretty cool how it connects like that. I will try out my other games that have support for external or wireless controller n see how this fares. I have a good feeling it will work. I'm hoping this might be a temporary solution to playing more Onlive Games that don't have touch controls for it yet. Since this is seen as a BT controller on the Prime. I could easily map the buttons to whatever. so wish me luck..lol
I just wanted to let those know that there's another option to having a wireless controller if your haven't bought a physical one yet. Being able to use your phone as the controller is cool and works very well with this app. Sorry for the wall of txt but wanted to cover the description of app and how to set it up. ENJOY here's the link below

Ads in the notification bar... no thanks. I fully support a need for devs to get paid but those ads are no good in my opinion.

I have the free version and haven't seen any ads yet..lol they also have an ad free version.
plus I just confirmed this works great with Snesoid, Genesoid, FPse, and Riptide GP THD. This also works as an external controller on Onlive, to an extent. Any game that uses regular direction pad will work. those that use analog stick only won't work. Like I couldn't move in Batman Markham Asylum because its only mapped to analog sticks. the buttons worked though. Then I tried the new Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade edition. That worked great with the controller. it uses directional pad. so without my phone as external BT controller, I wouldn't of been able to play it. Couldn't get it tl work with N64oid though. trying to map the buttons came up unknown on controller setup. Still more games tl test out but this is pretty cool though.

Steam/Local Games Setup For Steaming to Z3C

The Xperia Z3 line comes with the Playstation Connect to stream games to your Xperia device, and that is fine if you have a PlayStation. If you have a computer or gaming/media center with local games or running Steam, or both, and a Nvidia graphics card, you can create the same streaming experience as the PlayStation Connect setup. Here is what I have found that works.
You will need;
1. Xperia Z3 device
2. Gaming/media box or computer with an Nvidia graphics card and drivers with the Nvidia's GameStream software installed (included in Nvidia driver download.)
3. Gaming controller attached to the gaming box. (I use a wireless Xbox 360 controller.)
4. Limelight Game Streaming app installed (found in the Google Play App Store.) This allows you to connect to GameStream without having an Nvidia Shield Tablet.
5. Optional: mount for your controller and Xperia device; UtorCase (Find your controller and Xperia device, they have them all.)
Use the Limelight app to connect to gaming box via your wifi network and instantly see all your local and Steam games.
That is it!
This sounds great. Can you share some screens of this process in action.

Touch screen gaming

Is there anyone that has found a solution for using a game controller (PS3, PS4, XBOX ONE, ect) to emulate touch controls for touch screen only games? I know I have rooted my installation and attempted to install the sixaxis app, since I had already bought it for one of my previous devices, but it always fails to configure Bluetooth. Are there any apps out there that can accomplish this that we currently know are working with this wonderful os...?
I tried 2 bluetooth gamepads made for Android, one of them can use the D-pad and ABXY in system but doesnt work in game, another gamepad doesn't work at all
Hope they fix/add support for gamepad soon so we can enjoy games on pc/laptop with no touchscreen support (I really wanted to play Implosion).
Try GameKeyboard +
I use it to emulate onscreen the physical gamepad to play nvidia shield exclusive Portal on Xiaomi Mi3, but I also see options to map physical gamepad or keyboard or even mice; might you find it useful.

Use "Sixaxis Enabler" from the playstore. Works fine for me.

I'll give this and game keyboard a try... With sixaxis enabler, it sounds like all it does is make android recognize it as an android controller. If that is correct, then I don't need that due to the fact that remix os recognizes it as a controller just by plugging it in, but I need touchscreen emulation for apps that don't support controllers.
Bluestacks has some kind of keyboard control apk built in?
I tried it with Real Racing 3 and could steer, accelerate and brake using direction keys on a physical keyboard. But the graphics for the game itself weren't represented well and I switched to RemixOS. Which looks perfect in full screen, but alias there is no way to steer or brake.

Is anyone using game controllers for emulators?

If so, and you can tell me your experience, I'd appreciate it.
I'm looking for three controllers -
For Dolphin Emulator / Wii, I understand you can use a USB connected Mayflash W010 Wireless Sensor DolphinBar with an OEM Wii controller. This was made for PC's but there were suggestions it will work with Android.
For Atari 2600 using Atari2600EMU, I'm looking for a wired USB or Bluetooth joystick. The only one I see on Amazon, a Retro-Bit USB joystick has very poor reviews on Amazon. 50% of the reviews are one star. A paddle controller might be nice too.
For SNES, GBA, GBC, N64, using a hodgepodge of emulators including Mupen64plus, John GBAC, John NESS, My Boy, and Classic Boy, I'm looking for one controller which will work for all. On my potential list is a SteelSeries Stratus XL, an 8Bitdo SN30 Pro, and an 8Bitdo SF30 Pro. All are in the $30 to $40 range; I'm leaning to one of the 8Bitdo remotes because they look more like old school Nintendo remotes.
I was impressed by the Dolphin Emulator. They made note that on some Android systems the video encoding would be slow and choppy. Outside of crappy on-screen controls, I didn't notice significant lag/drag to the video. The other systems' emulators I've tried seem to function well, aside from the awkwardness of on-screen controls.
So is anyone running emulators on a Tab S4? What tips and tricks can you give? Any deeper insights to controllers? Are there other games you run that are enhanced with a game controller? Are there emulators you like best? Why?
Thanks,
Joe
Hi! I love Mupen64 FZ (N64 emulator), ePSXe (PSX emulator) and Redream (Dreamcast emulator). They run most games flawlessly and the Tab S4's gorgeous AMOLED screen really does wonders on older games.. I also love Delta Touch (Doom engine source port), Quad Touch (Quake engine source port) and Xash3D (GoldSrc engine source port). As for the gamepad, the DualShock 4 v2 is natively supported on Pie and it works on those emulators and ports.
been using xbox controller depending on the game, octopus does a decent job re-mapping ps4 and xbox buttons.
I purchased the SN30 Pro. Here are some observations
The SN30 Pro and SF30 Pro are functionally identical. The two differences are the color of the unit and the shape of the X/Y buttons. For the SF30 Pro, X/Y and A/B are all molded center up. For the SN30 Pro, the X/Y are dimpled center down with A/B center up. I like the color scheme for the SF30 Pro better, but went with the more monochrome SN30 Pro for the tactile difference between the X/Y and A/B buttons.
The Pro versions are USB C and Bluetooth 4.0. They are reported to have less lag than earlier models with older Bluetooth formats. I haven't seen any lag, but I'm playing NES type games, which don't require microsecond response.
The documentation is poor for 8bitdo. They tell you how to choose a profile but don't explain their differences.
My understanding of Bluetooth controllers was poor. I assumed they were plug and play.
It turns out that it is Really Complicated (tm).
A) There are no specifications for Bluetooth controllers that define which physical button corresponds to which electronic button.
B) 8bitdo has five "profiles" that you can set prior to connecting by Bluetooth.
1. Nintendo Switch (appears to be default after firmware upgrade)
2. XBox
3. Apple
4. Android
5. USB C
C) The profile you pick determines which physical buttons are active and maps the physical buttons to different electronic buttons
D) It seems like we want to be Android, Switch, or XBox, most of the online forums suggest that Android is "best". I get the impression that the Apple profile does not work with any other platform than Apple. I've had the controller in both Switch and Android profiles, and can't tell you the difference. I found some links to device config files that may enumerate the assignment differences, but haven't had a chance to look at them yet.
E) Because there is no Bluetooth standard, emulator programmers don't know what controller you are using and how they are assigning buttons. So unless they have an 8bitdo controller profile, you'll still need to go in and assign buttons manually.
These are the sites I got most of my understanding from:
https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/15201/8bitdo-sf30-pro-and-sn30-pro/
https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/15201/8bitdo-sf30-pro-and-sn30-pro/37
https://www.reddit.com/r/8bitdo/comments/7k9hb3/sn30_pro_windows_and_star_button/
https://buildbot.libretro.com/assets/frontend/bundle/autoconfig/udev/
I've played with this on several emulators. None seem to have 8bitdo profiles built-in. The Nintento 64 Mupen64plus emulator works great. John GBAC works pretty well, but John NESS is having more problems getting buttons mapped properly. I played with this on a few of the Atari games with Atari2600EMU, and it seems to work good on some games (Galaxian) and worse on others (Adventure).
Part of my problem is that it isn't always clear what the physical button to emulator button mapping should be. This is complicated by getting a one-size-fits-all remote that has all the right buttons, but includes extra buttons, and also has to encompass console functions and emulator functions. But I can see that if I play with it for awhile it will get better.
What I'm trying to get across is that none of this seems to be plug-and-play. But I like the controller a lot.

Bluetooth Game Controller (Native and touch profile support)

Wassup Folks,
I wanna buy an optional bluetooth game controller on amazon (or somewhere else) in order to play a few games on my phone..
Sadly not every app supports a native controller support, that means even if I would connect a controller normally through bluetooth, I would not be able to actually push a button, use a D-Pad, etc.
Someone there, who already rooted his device and used something like Sixaxis in order to achieve this? I'd appreciate if someone of you would give me feedback, I am playing with the thought to make a few reviews here (I don't know if Android 10 is appropirate enough in order to use third-partys app for game controller links and touch emulation through super user rights).
