Thinking of buying a Redmi 3 Pro, ideas on where to buy? - Xiaomi Redmi 3 Questions & Answers

I live in Canada and strongly considering buying a Redmi 3 Pro although the whole bootloader unlocking procedure is putting me off somewhat.....
First though i'd have to buy one, can anyone suggest which sites to check out that are reliable and trustworthy that stock this?
I also just have one question about unlocking, do i NEED to be posting on the Xiamoi forums to get my profile up to a score to get the unlock sms or is this unnecessary? Are there reports of people not getting the unlock code or being denied at all? Secondly to unlock i have to put a sim in the phone right? I wouldnt want to use this as my phone until i had it unlocked, rooted and CM14 installed so is there any issue using a UK sim, getting the SMS then doing the above before switching in my Canadian SIM? There is nothing that will tie to my UK sim on Xiaomi's end is there?

Just getting caught out with vendor rom that may cause you problems like no updates from xiaomi, I unlocked but I did create an account and had sim in the phone. If your going to unlock the vendor rom might be an issue, miflash to genuine rom then unlock. I'm using mokee rom nougat based on cm 14 and it's amazing. No problem getting the code came next day. Just told them I had vendor rom installed.

Fingerprint Manager cannot be found in any ROM

Hi
I have bought Xperia X from ebay in France which was a demo version. Earlier it was too difficult for me to remove the demo version until I tried flashtool. Now the demo version is gone, I am on Nougat 7.0. I tried several roms from UK, RU, TW and a couple more, but I am totally unable to see the fingerprint manager in the settings or even in *#*#SERVICES#*#* menu. I am currently trying to download Marshmallow version of the rom, the sony servers have taken away the older roms, and the other websites are very slow. But until then I would like to request here to please tell me what should I do for bringing fingerprint scanner. I bough this phone just for this fingerprint thing
It seems it's a hardware issue and it's obviously a pretty common problem.
Check here:

Thanks. I have already unlocked the bootloader (I am a nexus user, I was unaware of things sony do after unlocking bootloader), now if I send my device to sony what do you think, how much will it cost to solve this issue? I contacted them they asked me to send it to sony.

Some users got replaced phones - this is cost of new unit. My was repaired with parts replacement only (this is not cheap but cheaper then new phone).
In your situation I'll flash stock ftf and left unlocked bootloader (no relocking or something). Then send device to Sony...
Also you can ask Sony if bootloader unlocked units are not under warranty when hardware problem like yours appear. Think problems with fingerprint scanner are not caused by software modifications.

I did the following
buy an unlock code on the internet not from ebay, I cost 8 dollars... I put an unlocked rom of the same cid ... when you ask you put the code you bought and unlock it.
on tmobile they never know ****
PS: At the moment I'm looking for a rom to be able to use it since the software went away and I deleted all the files
Dont buy unlock code, its useless as the cell will unlock with app only and u wont be

Looking for the biggest and best phone and carrier for custom ROMs

Hello, I used to be big on flashing custom ROMs until verizon locked everything up. I am planning to get an unlocked phone (so i can unlock the booloader) and a new carrier so I can get back into it. Any suggestions on phone brand and model and carrier? I want the largest screen I can get.

You can start here > https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/
Most ROMs are lineage based
As far as Carrier are concerned, I'm an ATT customer. But I have no problems using TMobile or any of the many spin offs from them both.
I recommend these because their GSM carrier's and most all unlocked phones work with them.

I want to get an unlocked phone soon . Look up Game of Roms on YouTube. He shows new Roms. It's usually a pixel or redmi phone . Be sure your phone is treble enabled and you can install the gsi can . I believe that's generic system image , and you can install on your phone.

Question Mi 11 Lite 5G (Japan Global >> Global)

Hi,
I bought a Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G off ebay which was advertised as the Global model but it appears i have the Japanese Global model instead (M2101K9R) whereas the actual Global model is M2101K9G. Would anyone know if it is possible for me to convert this over to the proper RKIMIXM Global ROM (M2101K9G) and keep my bootloader locked in the process by just flashing the fastboot ROM for Global? In other words i would like to fully convert it across to the global M2101K9G model.
i have read that flashing a Global ROM on a device for a different region can brick the phone if the bootloader is then relocked after flashing the Global ROM but wasn't sure if this was more in reference to going from the Chinese version of phone to Global rather then my situation which is going from Global Japan ROM to Global ROM.
I understand I can do this if I kept the bootloader unlocked after the flash but was hoping the bootloader would accept the Global ROM and would still work after relocking the bootloader.
Thanks in advance.
Seeing that i have my Mi account binded to my phone, i will wait another 90 hrs to be able to unlock bootloader and will attempt to answer my own question. Atleast when i relock bootloader after flashing the global ROM and worse case scenario it fails i can unlock the bootloader again and reflash the original Japanese Global MIUI for the device
dont risk your device and instead use "xiaomi eu", that way you can upgrade your device without the risk of locking the bootloader in the process

Hey, since you have the Japanese model, is the camera shutter sound always on? Even if you pick a different region for MIUI? I'm considering the Japanese model and am also curious if it would be possible to convert to Global, though like you said there's a risk of bricking so don't do it if that's a real concern. If you do try it though, let us know how it goes.
Good news, after unlocking my bootloader after 7 day waiting period i was able to successfully flash MIUI Global RKIMIXM ROM. Also relocked bootloader with Xiaomi Flash tool and the bootloader had no issues accepting global ROM.
it should be noted there's been alot of misinformation regarding unlocking/locking bootloaders and changing regions. As long as the first unlocking of bootloader was performed by your own MI account binded to the phone then after 7 day waiting period is over you can unlock/relock bootloader as often as you want immediately with no additional waiting period required. So if you have the issue where you're stuck in recovery after flashing another region ROM and accidentally relocked your bootloader in the process, it's no big deal as you just load phone into fastboot mode and unlock the bootloader again then either keep bootloader unlocked and flash whatever you want or download the proper ROM for your region then flash and relock bootloader again to be back to official stock.
Only thing is model appears to still be detected as M2101K9R in settings. Unsure if this will affect future OTA updates etc. Will provide update when i know more.

It can be muted by setting.(Any ROM/Version/Model)
Setting → Additional Settings → 'Region'
Japan or Korea = Always On
Other = Can be changed from camera settings

I ended up flashing back to Japanese ROM as realistically i had no issues with it. Was more curious to see if i could fully convert it over to Global ROM but it seems the model number as shown in Settings is hard coded perhaps in the bootloader or somewhere else and still displayed M2101K9R so i wasn't comfortable using the M2101K9G global ROM.
As for the camera shutter sound on Japanese ROM i just checked and there was a setting in the camera app itself (Camera>Settings>Shutter Sound) and you can toggle it off to silence the shutter sound.
Please, did you notice any difference between the Global ROM and the Japanese ROM? I mean in terms of settings, speed, battery etc.

I am a Japanese user using Mi 11 Lite 5G. The difference in hardware is that it is equipped with Felica, a near-range wireless communication standard developed by Sony. This is used in Japan for payments on public transportation and in stores. The difference in the software is that it takes a long time for software updates to be delivered. As the ROM is optimized for Japan, it takes longer to receive updates than the global version.
I also have japanese version but I am from México and I am using xiaomi.eu beacuse of the publicity from xiaomi stock roms, and it works flawless and felica is not used in my country so, I am fine, but... One friend of mine has the chinese global version and the cameras look sooo diferent, better in Jaoan version, even video 60fps has more stabilization. Just to say.

BE2028 T-Mo variant having some issues after unlock

Ok, this phone is carrier unlocked and OnePlus bootloader unlocked. Spent most of the night trying to put a custom ROM on the phone to no avail. Every ROM I tried got to 47% and would error out. I take it there is a protection mechanism that isn't in any of these roms. So my question is, is the BE2028 pretty worthless as far as custom roms goes? Has anyone had any luck with putting a custom ROM on the T-Mo variant? Is BE2028's code name still 'billie'? Will any of the official Lineage os roms on their site work with this model.
